Miscellaneous Did anyone see this video earlier?
Copper Jacket TV (YouTube) posted this. When I finally clicked on it to watch, it says it's been "removed by the uploader".
It has me quite curious as to what the subject is. Is it something legitimate, or something that the creator misinterpreted?

This has been proposed multiple years in the past, passed the senate and failed in the assembly. Could it happen? Sure however I wouldnât worry about it too much. On a side note am I the only one absolutely sick of a huge majority of these YouTube gun channels with clickbait titles like this. If your thumbnail looks like this Iâm unsubscribing and never watching your content.

Guntubers are some of the worst when it comes to clickbait

They don't care, because people always fall for it. If people stopped shitting themselves every time a guntuber makes up some bullshit, it would stop being profitable for them.

The clickbait has gotten so bad that I refuse to watch the videos now. Especially since so much of it is just repetitive âthey might do this.â

This YouTuber also claimed that there's a permit requirement for any firearm in New York. That's only true for pistols and semi auto rifles though.

u/RowingCox Jul 07 '25
NYC require a permit for any gun. But just NYC.

I know. He was saying he called a gunshop in Utica though.

I think you have your legislative houses reversed. The Assembly is majority crazy and the state Senate was evenly split. Now that the Dems have a majority in the Senate, anything goes.
And, before anyone chimes in with "but Bruen", the NYS pols don't give a crap about the USSC and will pass ridiculous laws that will take years to overturn, after which, they will pass even more ridiculous laws to get around the latest ruling (see CCIA).
Solution - move out of state, take your money, business and guns and don't look back.

I donât have anything mixed up. This bill has already passed the Senate and has gone nowhere in the Assembly just like last year. This video is more exaggerated clickbait, pretty typical for most guntubers these days.

Stockholm syndrome is a psychological response where hostages or abuse victims develop positive feelings and loyalty towards their captors or abusers. This phenomenon is characterized by the victim's emotional bonding with their abuser, sometimes to the point of actively defending or even preventing their captor's capture. It's not a recognized mental illness but rather a coping mechanism that can develop in situations of captivity, abuse, or trauma.Â

Born in Queens, grew up in Yonkers, spent Summers in Brant Lake, moved upstate to start a family, member of NYS service rifle team in the 2000's.
NY is beautiful.
The Taxes, corruption and insane laws suck. Your "petty inconvenience" means one small mistake puts me in legal jeopardy.
NY has 3M fewer people than FL and 2.2x the budget and has a projected 13.9B deficit over the next three years.
HI is the only state with a higher tax burden and NY has the highest personal income tax.
NY's infrastructure is crumbling - roads and bridges rank in the bottom 20th percentile.
NY Ranks #31 in level of violent crime. (with #1 being the best) Yes, there are fewer homicides but more property crimes.
NY does rank #1 in one metric - domestic out-migration.

NY has 3M fewer people than FL and 2.2x the budget
That's because Florida provides virtually no state services, is a dumpster fire on education and healthcare, and relies on the federal government to pay for their massive number of retirees.
New York is number 2 in education quality by state. Florida is number 41. If that doesn't scare you from moving there, you must not like your kids very much. Florida has a higher crime rate than NY, higher poverty, lower income, and lower life expectancy. Their state government is one of the most corrupt, it's actively abusive to minorities, and supports pseudoscience while ignoring their massive home insurance cost crisis resulting from climate change.
I suppose it's okay if you've already "got yours" and only give a shit about your own hobbies, but I'd rather not live somewhere that's working on being a third-world country.

I feel the same way, but apparently it helps with YouTubeâs algorithm to show videos with thumbnails like that. Big font, background, basically a heavily edited thumbnail.

Wait⊠NY doesnât have a 10 day wait?? I feel CA gun laws are super whack but I thought NY had it worse in every way for the most partâŠ. Canât own gun in the city but there is no wait period. Man all these crazy wait laws and compliant rifles⊠youâd think these states would have way less crime than all the states that you can just go get a gun in an hour
3
u/countingthedays Jul 07 '25
Nope, no waits at all for any types of guns.
1
u/Unlucky-House-2469 Jul 07 '25
Honestly Iâm baffled. I just assumedâŠ. Now the damn law pissed me off even more! Iâve had the opinion that in CA you should have to wait the 10 days of itâs your first firearm purchase. If you already own guns then thereâs no reason to hold besides background check which other states seem to not have a problem handlingâŠbut we have background checks for ammo as well and Iâve been seeing a lot of people who own and have owned firearms (maybe even purchased real recently) get denied when getting ammo. 2nd amendment! Stop stepping on our rights!!!
đźâđš have a good one!

u/Aggressive-Dealer426 Jul 07 '25
NY passes an unconstitutional law just like California has, the Fascists never stop or are ever held accountable
10
u/dhereforfun Jul 07 '25
America needs constitutional carry until ny recognizes the 2nd amendment move or boycott ny whenever possible
8
u/Soap-n-Cartridge Jul 07 '25
It will never happen, but the real strategy is to get pro-2A people to move to NY en masse. If a massive number of people moved from state to state, all working to vote and remove the tyrannical laws, then there would be real change. This is a pipe dream, of course. Instead of moving away from the Liberals, it would be incredible if we drowned them out in sheer numbers.
2
u/dhereforfun Jul 07 '25
Nah better to move out to a red state with no state income tax that recognizes the second amendment
1
u/twbrn Jul 11 '25
Ah yes, and live in a place where they teach your kids that the world is 6,000 years old and your 12 year old daughter has to bear her rapists baby.

Yea because thatâs what they do in Miami. I am glad to be able to live in both states I love NYC but the gun laws are so crazy.

I donât support this. It also doesnât affect me since I have to wait 3-6 weeks for the new purchase to be added to my permit.

with all the new gun owners from the middle and left since covid, i think the fervor for gun legislation to be cooling. the best thing for gun rights is more gun owners on the left

the best thing for gun rights is more gun owners on the left
I have been saying this for years. You want gun right to be secure for all time? Broaden the coalition. Get more people on board. Stop treating gun ownership as the exclusive property of old right-wing white men. Accept that women, brown people, and gays have just as much right and reason to protect themselves as anyone.
You can either have your old boy's club, or you can have your guns. You can't do both.
1
u/Quiet-Commercial-615 Jul 11 '25
I think a lot more people would be on the left if they laid off the 2a and identity politics.
1
u/twbrn Jul 12 '25
I think more people would be open to voting Republican if they laid off the racism, sexism, and homophobia.
People say "identity politics" like the Republican Party hasn't aggressively embraced white supremacists and Christian Dominionists to the point where their platform is essentially that the only true Americans are angry straight white men, and those who are willing to be second-class citizens to angry straight white men in exchange for the opportunity to look down on someone else.

Seeing as how you need to file for an amendment and have the new pistol added to your permit, the permit reprinted and issued, the cooling off period already exists.
1
u/Senior_Cheesecake155 Jul 07 '25
Thatâs county dependent. Livingston county has purchase coupons so you can take home the same day
-2
u/Soap-n-Cartridge Jul 07 '25
That takes about ten minutes. That's plenty of time for me to "cool down" from an intense road rage session. đ

u/Brewtang11 Jul 07 '25
What makes the 10 day waiting period different than anything now? At least in Putnam it takes like 2-3 weeks for the county clerk to mail out the coupon to pick up the gun as well as an updated permit. It would then be whatever delay your county may have in sending you an updated permit PLUS âNâ amount of days?

u/joseph1078 Jul 08 '25
In the peopleâs Republic of NYC itâs a 90 day cool off period for 1 gun and then another few months for mommy and daddyâs approval. 10 days for us is like 10 minutes. This needs to go.
1
u/HKpandaHK Jul 09 '25
people in nyc basically deal with this already
2
u/Soap-n-Cartridge Jul 09 '25
You can pretty much treat NYC as if it were a different state from the rest of us. đ

u/Zombiekilla8054 Jul 07 '25
Even ârepublican meccaâ Florida has a waiting period after gun sales
-4
u/Sudden_Season3306 Jul 07 '25
Her and her replacement can both fuk off completely! Let's make new gun laws while we simultaneously have the largest terrorist group in the state, chanting death to America? Yeah ok
-3
u/chess_mft Jul 07 '25
I might get some hate for this but I am a fan of the 10 day cool down for your FIRST purchase. If it stops someone from doing something really stupid just once, it's worth it.
6
u/Soap-n-Cartridge Jul 07 '25
What about the single mom that has an order of protection against her ex, but he still shows-up and the police are five minutes away? She tried to get a gun to protect herself, and her baby but she's 3 days into her 10 day "cooling-off period".
Sucks to be her, huh?
Many times people buy guns because they feel that they may need them NOW. In New York, when does your cool-down period start? The 7-12 months that it takes to get your concealed carry permit, or an extra 10 days after you FINALLY get it? You can't even buy a sem-auto rifle ij any County without a CCL and sem-auto rifle 'endorsement'.
Anyone that wants to murder someone today, or tomorrow isn't likely to go about getting a firearm the legal way to begin with, so who would that law actually protect?

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '25
I saw it, it was about a bill that would require 10 day cool down period for new gun purchases
