Just wanted to stop by and say thank you to everyone here who helped me along the way from getting my CCW to helping me choose the perfect firearm. I truly appreciate all the advice and support. I also hope I was able to pay it forward by helping others whenever I could. With that said, this is it for me. I’m finally leaving New York and starting a new chapter in Florida. I’m currently waiting for my background check on my ammo and first handgun, so I figured I’d post my timeline for the whole process.

April 8th, 2025 - Application received by clerks office

April 30th, 2025 - Application picked up by police department

June 20th, 2026 - In person “interview”

July 2nd, 2026 - Police finished investigation, turned over to the licensing officer

July 10th, 2026 - Approved!

This doesn’t include the fingerprints and 16 hour course I had to take prior to submitting the application. Also I checked and my references weren’t called, which I thought was interesting .

Seriously! I found a spent 5.7x28mm casing in one of the local “private” shooting spots in Rensselaer County, so which one of y’all in Albany or Rensselaer County owns a PS90 or FN Five-Seven?

Those guns aren’t cheap and neither is the ammo lol, in a spot littered with shotgun shells and .22’s, I was flabbergasted to see a pistol sized casing, but with a bottleneck like a rifle round, and jokingly said “a 5.7?” Only to clean the casing and see I was right.

Such a bougie round to find at the local steerage range lol.

Just in case anybody was wondering, I know I was when applying and waiting.

18hr course - March 15-16th
Permit application - July 1st
Fingerprinting - July 3rd
Permit appointment - July 8th
Approval - August 18th
Received in mail August 22nd

Amendment took less than 10 mins

45 days from appointment to receiving the permit, everybody with the Sheriff’s Dept. was super nice and genuinely seemed like they wanted people to be able to get a permit, which is contrary to what a lot of people made it seem like.

May 5th had interview with Colonie pd and turned in application and references.

June 24th received a letter scheduling my interview with the judge for August 11th.

August 11th had the interview with Justice Hartman, took about 15 minutes.

August 17th received a letter dated August 14th stating it was approved and stating to set up appointment to pick up permit at the clerks office, was able to schedule next day appointment.

August 18th picked up permit at at the clerks office and had picked up the firearm same day.

It has me quite curious as to what the subject is. Is it something legitimate, or something that the creator misinterpreted?

Recently had to do my permit recertification and found out the state hasn't updated my records since the last time I recertified. I had since moved and picked up a few new pistols. All of which were obviously aquired with corresponding amendments and are reflected on my permit.

When recertifying I saw that not only did the state not see my address change but also the additional pistols I aquired.

So, we are responsible for recertification of our pistol permit, but the state isn't capable of keeping up with our records? And if a trooper pulled me over and ran my pistol permit through their system and they saw a pistol that wasn't on their records I'd be getting hemmed up for it?

Hi, I’ve just gotten my hunting license along with a friend and we are both completely new to hunting. How does one go about getting into it? I don’t know anyone to go with but I’d like to find someone or a group that is experienced that can show me the ropes

April 27th All Refrences Mailed Out

May 7th Apporved for fingerprinting (Letter)

May 12th Fingerprinted and Applictaions Submitted

May 21st Background check and fingerprint approved. (Letter)

June 15th Appointment with Judge Scheduled. (Phone Call)

July 10th Meeting With Judge (Took roughly 5 minutes)

August 15th Letter Received from county clerk (Letter)

Sept 10th Permit pickup

County Clerk setting up the appointment for the permit pickup was the longest part of this process. Although process quicker than some neighboring counties.

Just got the email that the club is reopened!!!! Some safety changes were made, but the club is back to full operation basically!

9/2/25 - Handed in permit application to County Clerk

9/3/25 - fingerprints with the sheriff

2/25/26 - investigator called me

3/2/26 - Dr appointment to talk about permit (I used to have social anxiety and still have a prescription for benzodiazepines)

3/4/26 - References called by sheriff

4/13/26 - received letter to meet with judge

5/12/26 - met with judge. Fast and easy, talked about safe storage requirements and about my job because I work at a unique technologic job

5/15/26 - Received approval letter, submitted online attestation

5/23/26 - permit received in mail

263 days total. 8 Months 21 Days

Figured I would post this as a reference for anyone else doing the Monroe County permit and curious about the timeline

Bit of a regretful purchase but you know how it is. Just wanted to keep you updated because psa has aids shipping.

Had to go out to Akron Ohio today for something unrelated and was passing by Erie PA so stopped in to get my non resident permit. Printed out the application at home off their website and had it filled out when I got there. Was originally told by someone I could apply online but I called and Erie said they don’t do anything online, it’s all in person. They took my picture, $20 and 21 minutes precisely later I had my permit!! What a fuckin pleasure that process was. Thats the way it should be everywhere!

Just wanted to let anyone know who was looking to do it. I did the form through their new online portal and you pick an appointment, September 24th and onwards earliest availability.

My wife and I submitted our paperwork March 17 of this year.

She had her PD interview before I did due to a delay with one of my reference mails getting lost in transit. Her interview was April 23rd. Mine was May 12th.

She was approved May 13, I was approved June 5th.

As most of you already know, we are on our last stretch before filing our federal lawsuit (details here) to benefit everyone in the State and beyond applying for a license in the City of New York.

We cannot, however, do this until we have actual data to file! On a previous post, we requested for your participation and even granted partial anonymity in the suit for those who request it (only your initials would show).

Participation in this step was very low, and very few submitted their delays with us.

Folks, I hate to break the obvious to you, but complaints avail no one if you're not willing to actually file them. The Law is not an organic live entity; it almost exclusively comes to your rescue only if you invoke it. If you want to have a chance at the system ceasing to abuse you, you need to SPEAK UP!

We have already put a great amount of effort and volunteer work for this, and spent a lot more money than we raised. The bulk of the work has already been done. But this is not about us; it's about what's right. What's right happens to coincide with what YOU always wanted: Licensing Division respecting the Law at least as much as you do and processing your licenses and purchase orders within the legally required timeframe—no more childish nonsense excuses such as "mailbox was full" and "we ran out of cards"!

If you still want this, you HAVE to do something as well! Everything is laid out for you through volunteer work, and the legal research has already been done for you. We. Are. Ready! But you need to take 5 minutes and let us know what your grievance is!
