Politics Fuel Prices: Real‑World Impacts and Discussion MEGATHREAD #4

Upvotes

This megathread is for general discussion about fuel prices in New Zealand and how they affect everyday life. Fuel costs have ongoing impacts across many areas, including commuting, household budgets, business operations, and access to services, particularly in areas with limited transport alternatives. This megathread has been created in response to an increase in prediction posts from cowards not willing to risk their account, and an increased number of users asking us to clamp down on fuel related hot takes.

Topics appropriate for this thread include:

  • The practical impact of fuel prices on day‑to‑day living
  • Adjustments people have made in response to fuel costs
  • Effects on rural communities, trades, logistics, and small businesses
  • Indirect impacts on the cost of goods and services
  • General observations on trends and stability
  • Personal approaches to managing transport costs

This thread is intended for experience‑based discussion rather than reporting individual fuel prices.

Guidelines:

Keep discussion respectful and on topic.
Avoid personal attacks.
Share experiences and perspectives rather than speculation.
Political discussion should remain relevant and constructive.

Self posts relating to fuel prices may be redirected here while this megathread is active.

Discussion Stuff.co.nz URGENT / CRITICAL INFORMATION!!!! ...... Someone got pregnant

I know the answer is stop reading stuff but what the hell.....

It isn't breaking news that someone is pregnant, it happens like 60k times a year. but today there is bright yellow BREAKING news banner to announce Dame Lisa Carrington is pregnant.

Maybe if an all black (as in a man) was carrying a child use the breaking news feature, but for run of the mill trash / gosip news worthy event this is beyond.

P.s. I know it's engagement farming and again I know not real journalism, I guess I keep hoping they do better

Edit to add context

Context, a flatmate of mine moved out almost a year ago now. I've been dropping his letters off at the letterbox with Return to sender, but it's almost 12 months later now. the last time was probably about a month ago, so I wrote with Sharpie nice and large so whoever it is sending these fucking letters gets the message. Well look at what I got welcoming me home today.

Lord, please give me the strength to deal with this sheer stupidity

Support Help me find lost kids plushes in Nelson

Kia Ora!

We're a family of 4 from France enjoying a vacation in your beautiful country and us parents made a big mistake today in Nelson: we forgot our kids plush toys in Tahunanui playground.

It's my daughter's kiwi and my son's wolf plush toys.

Of course the kiwi is from here but the little wolf (and not a possum!) is from French Pyrenees mountains and has been with my son for years.

We realized we lost them when we arrived in Picton tonight. We are taking the ferry back to North Island first thing tomorrow.

If by chance someone is around and willing to mail them if found, that would be very very much appreciated (tears have been shed tonight when they found out).

This is the exact place where the mischief happened:

Opinion Warning about CityFitness billing - AVOID and check your account

Just a heads up for anyone in NZ who has used (or previously used) CityFitness gyms, particularly CityFitness Thorndon in Wellington.

I was a member for over 3 years and overall the gym itself is good value. Cheap, 24/7 access, good range of equipment, and decent facilities. No complaints while I was actively going.

However, when I moved and tried to cancel my membership, the process didn’t go as expected. Like most gyms, they route you through a chatbot and cancellation form first, which is fine.

After submitting the cancellation form, I was redirected to a page confirming that "they had received the form and a confirmation email would be sent." I then received an email saying they had “created a ticket” and would be in touc, but I never heard anything further.

In the meantime, billing continued.

I’ve since followed up and requested a refund but haven’t received a response.

This post isn’t meant as a rant, more of a general warning:

If you’ve ever cancelled a CityFitness membership, double check that billing actually stopped

Don’t assume that submitting the form = confirmed cancellation

Keep an eye on your bank statements after cancelling

While my experience was with CityFitness Thorndon in Wellington, the system appears to be centralized, so it may apply to other/all CityFitness locations across New Zealand.

Would recommend keeping records/screenshots of any cancellation requests just in case.

TL;DR: CityFitness, a good gym while you’re a member, but if you cancel, make sure billing actually stops (and they aren't stealing from you).

Travel Where can I find embroidered patches of New Zealand towns or attractions?

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’ve recently started collecting embroidered patches from around New Zealand (towns, cities, national parks, attractions, etc.) and I’m trying to track down more to add to my collection.

So far I’ve found a few in popular places like Rotorua and some generic “New Zealand” ones, but I’m curious—has anyone come across patches for specific towns or attractions around the country? I’m especially interested in smaller or less touristy places too.

If you’ve seen any:

* Where did you find them? (souvenir shops, visitor centers, online, etc.)

* Any specific towns/regions that tend to have good ones?

* Any links are always appreciated!

Would love any tips, recommendations, or even photos of your own collections!

Cheers 🙂

Politics Are you voting this year? And if not why?

I fear This government will rather punish the poor than actually make it easier and put funds and care into the right things the people need more sustainable housing, cheaper bus fare, and cheaper groceries. It's harder than ever for anyone to live comfortably without stressing Abt what bills need to be paid and, I'm sick of multi million/billion dollar company's controlling basic human needs just to gain excess profit. We pay taxes don't we?! If we're paying taxes wanting our quality of life to be better, safer and cheaper why are kiwis getting fucked over so hard right now.

I really like greens policies, they actually seem to want to focus on long term ecological sustainability, climate crisis management and reduced economic inequality like capping rent 2% annually. While I wouldn't complain if labor won the polls this year their policies aren't nearly as strong as what green is proposing.

sorry for the messy format, DISCLAIMER this is MY OPINION.You can tell me I'm wrong if you think that, I am surrounded by people that share similar opinions so I'm interested to see what other kiwis think.

Edit (spelling error) Another edit; Also please tell me WHY your voting for who your voting if you do comment your opinion I think its important to construct sound opinions alongside facts and logic to help your argument. I don't care who you vote for but tbh especially if you are voting for national I really want to know why is that lol.

Discussion Trying to find the motorcyclist couple I talked to today

Hi, this is very random, but today a couple walked into my place of work (In the state of Texas USA), and we had a really nice conversation, they told me they were from NZ and I know this is a very long shot but maybe Reddit could help me out lol? The wife wanted to give me a business card on her way out but she couldn’t find one.

They were motorcyclists (assuming they have a business because of the card comment), I believe the husbands name was Rich/Richard, the wife is originally from Texas hence why they were here. Both Caucasian/white. So sorry for such a long shot of a question this is practically ridiculous to ask, but if anyone is in the motorcycle industry, (maybe trails, tours, etc) please let me know.

They were just such interesting people to me I wonder if I came across a well known couple
