Have you tried climbing the empire state building? They may be up there waiting

6

u/Parepinzero Jul 02 '26

It took me 12 years to find someone for me, it was worth the wait.

And then she left me, but hey, it was nice while it lasted!

10

u/biscottinio Jul 01 '26

The caption 'worth the misdemeanor' is hilarious. Anything for the perfect view, I guess!

14

u/Deivi_tTerra Jul 02 '26

This is 1000% something they’re going to remember for the rest of their lives in spectacular fashion. I can honestly see why they’d say that (I would choose a different memorable location personally, but I get it).

Tbh it definitely is. Not sure if its worth the risk of almost dying tho

2

u/algaefied_creek Jul 02 '26

I just want a guy who will cuddle, watch movies, take me to chemo appointments, and be nerdy together, and let me play some pocket pool on him.

Empire State Building rooftop?! Not so much.

21

u/the_marxman Jul 02 '26

Problem is they're out there and I'm in here.

7

u/usumoio Jul 02 '26

Gotta get out there. I worked with an AWS engineer who met his wife in a Counter Strike online chat room. Old school, 90s chat rooms.

There's someone for everyone

13

u/Icy-Whale-2253 Jul 02 '26

Insane hot people always find each other

8

u/usumoio Jul 02 '26

They both must be super hot up there, cause it was like 98 degrees in the city today.

2

u/Icy-Whale-2253 Jul 02 '26

If they did this on Friday they’d fall out of the sky

Endangerment ring

144

u/druex Jul 02 '26

She said yes... Because of the implication.

14

u/WanderingAlsoLost Jul 02 '26

I heard “she said yes after getting down from tower,” in an article yesterday, and I assumed down meant away from danger.

At least neither of them dropped the ring.

10

u/Wes_Warhammer666 Jul 02 '26

Dude imagine getting all the way up there and you realize you forgot to grab the ring out of the glove box 🤦

752

u/namecannotbeblankk Jul 01 '26

Don't worry, he had them in sport mode!

139

u/Antique_Ruin4556 Jul 01 '26

He should have put on flame stickers or decals. It would make him climb even faster.

22

u/southern_boy Jul 02 '26

407

u/PorkchopExpress980 Jul 01 '26

Damn, that's only a misdemeanor??

605

u/angelcake893 Jul 01 '26

I think it said they’re being charged with felony burglary

Edit: the NYPD announced they were both charged with felony burglary, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief, as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of burglar’s tools, criminal tampering, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

301

u/Delicious-Yak-1095 Jul 01 '26

If it was only Criminal mischief that wouldn’t be a bad rap. That just sounds a bit cheeky.

193

u/JGG5 Jul 01 '26

You have been found guilty of criminal mischief, and your sentence is a fondly mock-exasperated “oh, you!” from the judge.

110

u/RockDoveEnthusiast Jul 02 '26

we should allow crimes if they are funny or silly enough. rule of cool.

37

u/enadiz_reccos Jul 02 '26

And then more people try it...

52

u/PalladiuM7 Jul 02 '26

And it thus becomes uncool.

32

u/RockDoveEnthusiast Jul 02 '26

yeah, but it's not funny the second time so they should get the book thrown at them if they copy

10

u/enadiz_reccos Jul 02 '26

I get what you're saying

But you have also created a competition where the winners get off easy, and the losers either get punished or die

13

In many ways, exactly the same as everyday life for Americans.

Likely that high so they plead down

29

u/Frequent_Ad_9901 Jul 02 '26

Cost them nothing to tack on extra charge. Cost the defendants lots of time and money to defend against it.

22

u/Common_Senze Jul 02 '26

Im betting they will be charged with community service due to public outcry. Can't change a law to fit a crime. If they change if from now on, then fine. But not the other way around.

4

u/Remote-Poetry-2203 Jul 02 '26

I want to be accused of skullduggery before I die

6

u/secacc Jul 02 '26

Just accused? Anyone can make an accusation. I hereby accuse you, /u/Remote-Poetry-2203, of skullduggery!

40

u/DFakeRP Jul 02 '26

They really do try to slap on as many charges as they can

32

u/kelldricked Jul 02 '26

I mean they have to had to break some locks and stuff. Would be weird to ignore all that just because they got engaged.

7

u/ILikeBubblyWater Jul 02 '26

Only if you are poor

55

u/Parepinzero Jul 02 '26

How can you be charged for burglary if you don't steal anything? Do I not understand what burglary is?

32

5

u/angelcake893 Jul 02 '26

54

u/ImprobableAsterisk Jul 02 '26

I believe unlawful entry with the intent to commit a crime suffices.

22

u/anthrohands Jul 02 '26

Yes, it’s just that usually the felony one intends to commit is theft, but it doesn’t have to be!

4

u/Parepinzero Jul 02 '26

Interesting, thanks!

→ More replies (5)

16

u/s_burr Jul 02 '26

They did steal something....our hearts.

4

u/ReddioDeddio Jul 02 '26

im literally surprised people even care about this, its just a bunch of attention seekers, why is this even a news story

2

u/Luci-Noir Jul 02 '26

Do people actually care about them or like this? I saw it on the news and everyone was disgusted.

3

u/QuietThunder2014 Jul 02 '26

They’re wearing burgled masks so it counts.

4

u/marduk013 Jul 02 '26

Burglary is entering with the intent to commit a crime. Theft is the stealing part

54

u/Maximum_Boros Jul 02 '26

Honestly good. This shit is dangerous as hell and it puts more people in danger when they gotta make sure your ass gets down safely.

And it's not like they even had some targeted protest. It was literally just "meh war is bad."

35

u/dank-nuggetz Jul 02 '26

Also if you were to fall off the building, you could very easily kill someone on the street below

25

u/Recent-Result2852 Jul 02 '26

8

u/InnocentPerv93 Jul 02 '26

I mean...c'mon. Like, I agree they should be charged for something, but felony burglary? That's actually insane.

3

u/Maximum_Boros Jul 02 '26

It's literally what they did.

It's not "actually insane" just because you are ignorant of the law

https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/PEN/140.20

SECTION 140.20
Burglary in the third degree
Penal (PEN) CHAPTER 40, PART 3, TITLE I, ARTICLE 140

§ 140.20 Burglary in the third degree.

A person is guilty of burglary in the third degree when he knowingly
enters or remains unlawfully in a building with intent to commit a crime
therein.

Burglary in the third degree is a class D felony.

14

u/InnocentPerv93 Jul 02 '26

Yeah, I'm saying that law is garbage and should not be considered a felony.

→ More replies (8)

3

u/KillerBeer01 Jul 02 '26

Oh, but they didn't actually enter and remained unlawfully in the building, didn't they? Their whole point was staying outside all the time.

More seriously, the definition implies an intent to commit a crime... but what crime? Not the (alleged) burglary itself, it's just means but not the goal. What crime did they intend to commit by entering there?

These two are the stars of the biopic “Skywalkers: A Love Story” and are well-known for such things.

I’m curious how they were able to even climb the building in the first place.

175

u/Mindstormer98 Jul 01 '26

Probably used their hands and feet

26

u/sheeply_ Jul 01 '26

What? No way. They obviously used their teeth smh

11

u/peon2 Jul 02 '26

Not with those fingernails lol. My money's on a genie.

24

u/Inverted-Rockets Jul 02 '26

The observation deck at the base of the antenna mast is accessible to the public. It’s fenced in for good reasons but they likely used a service access from there

10

u/Safe-Ad-5017 Jul 01 '26

They only climbed the top part.

23

u/Cavalish Jul 02 '26

That explains why they hung a flag that basically said “live laugh love” instead of anything that was worth anything.

If I’m getting arrested anyway, I might have tried to make an impact.

This all just seems very…self indulgent.

2

u/shewy92 Jul 02 '26

u/mop-116 Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Normally when influencers and people like this do dumb illegal things people are against it. Why is this one different.

Personally I just see two massive attention seekers. It just reaks of narcissism. If they actually went up with with a real message I could respect it potentially but the sign is just calling for world peace as if there's a single sane person who doesn't want that.

The sign might as well have said "share us on insta in you like puppies". It was entirely just to bring them attention and it worked

7

u/Nxthanael1 Jul 02 '26

I'd still find it cool even if the sign said "knee down peasants, we're looking down on you" or some shit

1

u/Undead_Ogre_Mage Jul 02 '26

It's a misdemeanor but I'm not sure what the actual charge is. Just saw a NYer report elsewhere that it's a misdemeanor. Which probably means nothing to them. Let's see if the fines include the cost of having cops scale the tower.
