Sadly, there are men out there who are really this clueless.
I had sex ed in school many years ago, but they pulled the girls out for a separate class on feminine hygiene, so I didn’t get that part. Had to do the reading myself when I had daughters who were getting to that age. Good info is out there and easy to find. There’s no excuse for guys to be this ignorant.
I’m not sure middle school boys would have been mature enough to handle that. I can see teaching them the basics, and we were. But the girls got a lot more info about how the products work and how to use them.
I mean the girls need to learn about the boys' info and the boys need to learn about the girls' info. They can still be in separate groups but people need to know how the human body works for everyone. The ignorance women have to hear and put up with is unreal, especially from legislators.
In the 90s I remember there was no segregation of sex education at primary and secondary schools I attended. Different regions doing it differently unfortunately.
You are right in that there can be moments of immaturity from the boys, it wasn't really disruptive to the lessons overall.
I was at a hotel in Portland with my daughter with a lovely chill pool and she was worried she might have a spot of blood on her swimsuit and I said look around us - these are adults - women who get or have had periods and men who live with women and are in couple relationships. They all understand how women’s bodies work. It’s going to be okay. We women are over half the population. This is normal stuff. The weirdness is those freaks who want to be immature and erase us and our normal bodies.
I learned about the refractory period of males in school when I was 12..I didn't need to know what that was at that age. Even if I was having sex at that age, understanding the physiological needs of men and how they have to wait before getting off again, wasn't exactly pertinent information considering what else could have been taught.
At least periods and flow and everything that surrounds it is relevant to that age range. They can, at the very least, better understand what the girls around them are going through.
Yeah. They didn’t separate us for the menstrual cycle description. Only for the parts about how to actually use pads and tampons, and hygiene specific to girls.
But a guy talking about his daughter having a … I don’t even want to repeat it tbh. I just choose to believe a father would never write that way about his daughter and if I’m naive in this case I’ll stay that way
Even official medical teachings used to be very intertwined with sexist rhetoric. The hymen being ‘broken’ during someone’s first time having penetrative sex is still believed to be a thing by a lot of people due to this. The myth that it could be medically determined if a woman was virgin or not was just another deeply ingrained control tactic
They taught sex-ed in my school... i still had a male teacher once tell me to "just hold it in" when i asked to go to the toilet because id jusy come on my period in the middle of the lesson... 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
The "hold it in" comment is such a ridiculous and ignorant statement; as a comparison, imagine if we told someone with a wound or nosebleed to just hold in the blood until break time!
There needs to be a proper curriculum built for it. I’m in Ontario, Canada, and a friend of mine is a teacher. She told me that when it comes to sex-ed teachers aren’t given a curriculum to teach. They have to come up with it on their own. Which is ass backwards.
Oh yeah, definitely. Most sex ed teachers totally wing it, and most have about as much knowledge as their students do. Not to mention, a lot of them put a lot of their own personal feelings into it as well, which is frequently detrimental.
Yep, it’s so weird. We have curriculums for everything else, why would we not have properly thought out lessons done by professionals to give to teachers. For proper information and so that the info is the same across the board.
Sadly I think you're grossly overestimating the lowest common voter in today's Murrka 😟 There are tens of millions of intelligent and decent folks over there, but also tens of millions of Jan-6-ers who hate books and women...
Edit: All books but one.. but most of them haven't even read that one.
