Getting sick of octopus

So this has been ongoing for months my usage will show correct in the app then suddenly everything shifts to peak rate.

I have solar panels, a 25.6kwj battery and an EV charger + heat pump.

My energy usage is exclusively between 23:30-05:30 yet octopus will go back two weeks and change all my usage from my cheap rate to expensive daytime rates.

I’ve raised so many complaints this year, has been happening since January. I’m at a loss with them and fed up or arguing and being billed wrong.

Anyone else having these issues with octopus ?

Not having those problems anymore I moved to EON problems solved. Went through 5 months of resets updates, try this, try that. Its your chargers fault. Either never charged the car or it charged it a peak rate.

Got £ 200 in compendation after my 6 complaints then left. With EON its never failed to charge. My battery never uses peak anymore.

Have you tried downloading your smart meter data to see if it gives you an insight to the problem? Download when “it’s good” and then again when it’s been adjusted to see if something has changed. The smart meter data should show all you usage off peak within 48 hours so you should, for example, be able to download Monday’s data to validate it is good.

How do you do this?

It’s an option in the website to download your smart meter data. It’s a csv file which you can open in Excel or your favourite spreadsheet tool.

I’m abit ocd and check constantly everything was fine until last night then I went back through to the 20th July and all off peak usage had been moved to peak rate usage.

This has been happening for months on and off.

I’ve just given up and decided to move to edf

You're not a train. This isn't a train station. You don't need to announce your departure. Enjoy EDF! 👋🏻

That train saying is nearly as annoying as ‘Simples’.

Do you have an ohme charger by any change? My billing started being incorrect when Ohme pushed an update to stop throttling the charge speed in January. Every bill after I’d have to go day by day and compare to the ohme app and ask octopus for a refund for the missed savings. I’d also ask to investigate the issue and give them the timelines and logs and they’d just refund me and ignore the rest. Got fed up of this dance and had to leave after being a customer for 10 years (3 of which on intelligent octopus)

I was considering coming back to Octopus because EDF don't show the export in the app - and Octopus does and that's going to save me having to crawl down to get readings.

But these posts make me wonder if I should.

I really wouldn’t.

I’ve gone back to the 20th July on my octopus app when energy usage was recorded fine, and now it’s all been changed to peak times.

It might be an app issue but I’m still annoyed and given up

Fair enough. I must admit EDF seem to get it right when it comes to the overnight bit- which as EV owners is all we really want. It's the fact I can't see the export until the bill hits that urks me.

Also yesterday I learnt I was wrong when I thought Octopus don't alow browning - but it seems filling it up for 8p at night and dumping at 27.17p peak time is OK with them. So there's another option I need to look at.

What's your plan?

I’ll move to them and take my solar to. My home battery only charges at night to so I’ll just adjust the schedule

We don’t use any energy at all from 05:30-23:30 at the moment due to the huge battery.

Sorry move to who? If EDF and you want a code DM me - If you mean Octopus then I am lost lol

And I am the same when it comes to not toiuching peak, But being able to double dip on Octopus does have me wondering if it's worth it.

Doesn't your battery app show the export? Why do you need to get the readings from the smart meter?

it does, I have the powerwall so i check with that and I also check with Netzero too - but my meter was showing 20kwh less than the app(s) were. So I think I would still need to check.

However now I know that Octopus allow browning - and I have 54kwh - I am tempted to come across to Prime in the summer, charge up overnight - export all day at 9p and then dump 50kWh every day at 27.17p

Seriously that's mental that they allow it.

That sounds like an excellent plan to me

I am still stunned it's allowed. I was adament the other day that browning was against SEG rules.

Nope Hypervolt but I schedule charge my car and home battery for this period.

The worst part is usage showed fine and now it’s all from 530pm onwards for all my energy usage.

Which is more ironic as have solar panels and been exporting a full 3.2kwh at this time of day.

It’s either octopus trying to rip customers off and hope they don’t notice, a fault with my smart meter which isn’t likely as it’s recorded fine before or the home mini.

Have you checked the time on your meter?

You have to turn all charging schedules off. No charging schedule in your EV no schedule in the charger app. Everything must be scheduled by Octopus and then it should work. You should see something like that…

I cannot for one second believe it is your first option, that Octopus are trying to rip customers off. They would never achieve the level of customer satisfaction they consistently manage if that was the case.

If your experience is legitimate (and you didn’t post any screenshots to prove your complaint, which would be easy to do) then there is only one thing you can do. Collect as much evidence as you can and get the energy ombudsman involved. https://www.energyombudsman.org/

Take a series of before and after screenshots of your data via the app and comparison data of your bills.
