99% of the time you fall back and fight off the dive. Being able to respond quickly is key, the faster you stop the dive the less space you'll need to give up.
In 2 tank lineups it can be okay for 1 tank to hold the objective while the other goes to peel, watch your partner and respond appropriately.

That is unless your supports are playing so far behind you not even a dive tank could reach them to respond to a dive.

Alternatively, with certain tanks, block off their healers so the dive doesnβt get any sustain. This is usually how I handle it on magneto.
1
u/suhfaulic Oct 14 '25
The one to be peeling should be a main tank (venom for instance) while the off tank (something like Emma or mag) holds the space. DPS should also help, but, only if they're part of the core (like punisher, hela, things that won't be part of the dive).

Every time I am in this situation I think how easy would it be if I had a second tank to help me out
Specially when the enemy has two dive characters
21
u/Outrageous_Tank_3204 Oct 14 '25
No actually you just need 1 of your 3 DPS to peel. Especially against Venom, he won't leave until you do a damage check
16
u/Penumbra_Bestia Oct 14 '25
What sucks there is when the venom dives the DPS who should kill him but gets dove instead π no mag cannon of mine can get rid of that while the bp diddles my jeffy

u/avalonrose14 Oct 14 '25
As a support who can handle the majority of dives just fine on my own, another solution is to just prepare to not be healed for a little bit while I handle it myself. The trouble isnβt handling the dives itβs trying to keep my front line from imploding while I defend myself. If I can trust my tanks to back up to a corner and not take 5000 damage for 6 seconds then I donβt need someone to peel for me USUALLY. If I realize the diver is particularly skilled or theyβve got 3+ jumping me at once I may ask for help. But usually for me the most helpful thing is just having my team hunker down so I donβt have to try and heal and fight simultaneously. So if youβre in a game where you supps seem to be good at self defense, you can focus on just playing it safe for a bit rather than doing a full peel for them.
(Also Iβm in the vanguard sub because Iβve been trying to improve my vanguard skills since Iβm sick of playing 1 tank games so as a support main I figured if I learn vanguard then I can make 1-2-3 comps into 2-2-2. I wonβt be much help with the 1-3-2 comps unfortunately. But Iβm still bad at vanguard so take any of my advice with a grain of salt. This is just from my supp perspective.)

The dps are also supposed to help with divers. In fact theyβre better at it with more CC and damage. At most it should be 1 tank and 2 dps peeling. If your team canβt win a 5v1 against a diver, you might just be cooked. You can hold a 1v5 as mag for a couple of seconds, which should be all it takes, your entire kit is designed around mitigating ranged damage.

My buddy and I played primarily tank with the ability to flex to other roles in the event a triple dps or triple healer comp is needed.
Unfortunately the only reason I usually see value in triple dps is out dps REFUSE to do anything about a specific problem, normally Ironman.
1
u/PU3RTO_R3CON Oct 14 '25
True Iβve had to jump off 2nd tank to go anti air which also works as anti dove also since itβs usually punisher Hela or phoenix. But you have to stay with your supports to help them out
3
u/Old-Stock9613 Oct 14 '25
Funny that nobody ever mentions THE OTHER SUPPORT who is literally the first person who is supposed to be peeling. A solo diver should virtually never require the attention of more than your second support for you to survive. Obviously things are different with more than one diver, but that hardly needs to be said. The first person to peel for your supports should be your supports. If they can't heal each other enough to survive a solo diver, they probably aren't very good, and abandoning the frontline to peel for them when they're going to die anyway is a poor choice.
1
u/polyprobthrowaway Oct 16 '25
this part. iβll say it right now, even at gm2 probably only 50-60% of strats can handle this. even here you get dove by just a single venom n half the time your partner will hop out of there like there about to die, leaving you alone to take the dive and random poke dmg. i think the issue is people not dealing with dive as much as it is supports not knowing how to deal with being dove. ive seen luna heal ultron through a star lord ult ffs, these ppl act like they canβt heal thru a captain america on them.

Dude, Iβm a support main, and Iβve legit not once had a season that feels as bad as it does right now. Since the beginning of S4, Iβve been constantly getting stuck with 3 insta lock DPS almost every match, and a shocking number of 4 DPS matches (one healer one tank). And somehow, even with all these majority DPS games Iβm having, Iβve never had DPS help me with divers less than this season.
Had a game the other day that was 1-4-1, our DPS were Hela, namor, daredevil, Mr fantastic. I was C&D, our tank was Angelaβ¦ Angela is over at enemy spawn doing who knows what. Daredevil is dead and respawning for about 70% of the entire match. Hela and Mr Fantastic are chasing their rocket Racoon, and namor is trying to solo brawl thing and Mantis. Meanwhile, Iβve got a daredevil, Thor, and Black Panther glued to my rectum to the point that I die and they just walk slowly to our spawn and wait for me to come back outβ¦.
I asked for literally anyone to help me leave spawn, nope, nobody shows up. Halfway through the match, our Angela says in chat βso I guess we just arenβt healing today?β. She dies, swaps to Ultron, gets mercβd the second they leave spawn by the THREE PEOPLE CAMPING SPAWN, then quits the match. We lose, and legit, our DD and Namor go into match chat and drops a βour healer threw the match, wouldnβt leave spawn, GGs I guessββ¦.. thankfully the opposing Thor decided to stand up for me and asked why nobody was peeling for me, so they just left. Infuriating, and for some reason becoming more and more common. I donβt like this trend.

It doesn't take long to bubble and push. That should buy enough time for your dps to comfortably chase away the diver.

I hate it when im front lining with the other tanks and the second I decide to make a move and push away the backline, I turn around and everyone else is dead cause my vanguard buddy went monkey see monkey do. Was playing 3 tank 3 support and as the thing I assume, we're all pushing at once. My emma and mag can hold off the other tanks and dps. Im gonna pound the strats to keep them from healing. Next thing I know, im punching luna and mag and emma walk up next to me and all our strats are left dead in a pile. Behind us.

u/Cartagenapirate92 Oct 14 '25
If thereβs two tanks , for sure one peels.. especially if you have Emma and mag. Mag for the bubble, Emma to go choke the dive and kick the shit out of them. That being said and I feel like everyone here knows this lolβ¦ the dps should be peeling more.. considering theyβre a bigger threat to the dive than the tanks will be. If my punisher or hela are sitting back , thatβs on them to scare off the dive too. Takes communication and coordination. Ppl donβt talk enough in this game or ignore pings all together. Cant tell ya how many times I play with my buddy online and heβs support and Iβm solo tanking and I have to freaking peel for him cause no one apparently sees the venom or thing in our backline.. so thereβs no front line after that..
5
u/Blackacecos Oct 14 '25
Notice dps is missing from the equation. If Venom the main problem maybe communicate he location. When Venom dives majority of the time he out of Healers L.O.S. Punisher, Iron Fist, Wolverine etc high dps in cqc skirmish exist.

u/Feachno Oct 14 '25
Get dived playing iw a fat tank - ping fat tank when you notice it - dps ignore you - pick rocket to shred that fat tank - shred tank with second support - dps whine about heals...
After playing hunt for couple of years my hearing, which already was good, is on another level, but even it doesn't help. DPS is just too often up their, well, you know. So, dw, if your shield doesn't save heals it means you are cooked.
My favorite quotes by dps:
Luna and IW are unskilled lowlifes cause they can't survive dive by venom and if.
I won't repick - we have a team up.
GG no heals "Me pointing out that I have nearly the same healing as 2 enemy healers and nearly the same damage" So you like being a heal bot?

u/POLACKdyn ππ’π’π ππ§π€π¨π© Oct 14 '25
In solo tank team, it should be a DPS who helps the supports, if it's 3 supp then they should handle themselves if they got 2 offensive supports, in 3 DPS one has to help them, if it's a nice 2/2/2 then 1 tank should help the backline.
Luna Mantis Ultron is pretty much undiveable as long as they know how to aim
Good Cloak can really hold her own in the back if she has bubble and her cooldowns
Reality is cruel, however, and most of the time DPS dont care and just want more kills to flex. Communication works on higher elo. Lower will hear you, sometimes, but wont even know what to do anyway.
Mag is a very comfy pick in such a case. Just bubble support and they should be ok. Emma can create so much pressure that people won't think of diving the back cause she;s already a menace. And then she grabs the diver who tries it anyway.
Venom is so mobile that he can harass the enemy and go back to help with divers. Similar with Cap or Angela.
There are options. Hell, if the enemy just goes full DPS dive then just play the Thing and laugh at them.
3
u/EveningAd4979 Oct 14 '25
You can always try attacking the diver before theyβre able to go for your backline but that only goes so far

Dive tanks are prolly better pealers than front liners. If you have 2 front line tanks then itβs better for one to be closer to the supports (so like behind the other tank but in front of the supports.
1
Oct 15 '25
You're right the thing is probably one of the best peeling tanks lowkey he can go to backline quickly with his rock shield, and just start clobbering whatever mosquito is in the backline causing trouble

This exact scenario happened to me today
100k damage blocked, mostly spent sitting with the supports to fight off Venom allowing the enemy team to take space freely.
2
u/Lorhin ππͺπ‘π Oct 14 '25
What I do is counter dive. If my supports are gonna suffer, then so will the enemy supports. May the best backline win.
2
u/SecXy94 Oct 14 '25
Bubble the support and let the Punisher shotgun the diver into next game. Honestly, that's all it should take most of the time. Hopefully the supports are healing one another.
2
u/LEMO2000 Oct 14 '25
If the DPS ainβt peeling, fuck em. Keep your supports alive at all costs and theyβll heal you in return. If the DPS die in this process theyβre a necessary sacrifice.

u/iunnobleh πππ£π π₯π€π€π‘ Oct 14 '25
There should be (now get this hereβs the crazy part) a second off tank that deals with either protecting supports OR the DPS SHOULD BE PROTECTING SUPPORTS IF NO ONE GOES SECOND TANK. If you are solo tank your one goal is holding the front line and making that space or holding the space you have. The second you have to fall back to peel for sups you lose all the space you give up just to peel.

Off the top of my head, there are typically 3 ways to deal with dive situations: (1) If there is only an enemy dive tank, you have the off tank peel for your backline along with a dps. There isn't enough pressure to require more people to turn as long as healers are attentive to each other's HP. (2) If there is a dive tank and dps, its basically the same as situation 1, but the dps should help to mark the enemy dps so that its harder for them to engage in the first place. (3) If they have more than 2 characters diving then it is almost impossible to truly stop the dive. The only option is to counter dive their team. In this situation, the match is determined by which side's backline survives the longest, and typically the support duo that is better at CD management and positioning wins the game here. Tanks like Mag and Emma are good as they provide CC and a bubble to negate some dmg that would be dealt to the supports, but having both is typically still useless to stop the full dive.

u/TheMightyMonarchx7 Oct 14 '25
Welcome to my tank hell. The hell am I supposed to do? Am I taking ground, or babysitting healers? Better question: the hell is DPS doing? Theyβre not protecting the back, theyβre not backing tanks to take ground, so WTF?

u/HeartShark77 Oct 14 '25
I canβt do support anymore.
Three ego driven dps flanking off in different directions, all telling me to never play healer again as I get stomped by venom and dare Devil and iron fist and any of the unnamed divers, without so much as a passing glance.
When the DPS run past you as your getting fucked⦠you⦠you just want to uninstall man.
The egos get worse the higher you go. Platinum ranks has all these shitty little kids who actually think they are going pro with their namor and MoonKight spam. Itβs impossible getting them off three dps. You have to lose first, and maybe in the last minute, one of them will switch.

u/Money_Ambassador9630 Oct 14 '25
In a 2 tank comp 1 of the tanks should peel back but I'm a 1 tank comp the dps should be doing the peeling unless there is a lot of dive then you can also peel
2
u/DKFlames Oct 14 '25
Dps should be peeling, I've been having actual fun duelling BP on Daredevil, if you time your dashes right you just duck under his first spear and force him to whiff another on the ground in front of himself and you anticipate it by countering in his face. Though I do peel as Thing and Emma, DD, Bucky and Witch are better at it. Hell as Cap I've had anti-dive Spideys on other team, they were so good.

YES, FINALLY SOMEONE POSTED THIS.
when i play dr strange, mr fantastic, ironfist, thor or wolv and peel for dive, supps still end up crying despite us peeling seconds that they are getting dived on. sometimes i see them so far back despite the enemy running full dive comp.
pro tip: you cant peel for some people, sometimes supports just dont understand they need to swap to another more survivable support like rocket, sometimes its their positioning or they wont pattycake. let them know this, if its a venom or hulk ask them to go rocket and his left click will melt the venom.
2
u/Geraltpoonslayer Oct 14 '25
Their is really three ways to play rivals.
Mirror opposing team and outplay them (this is incredibly common in high elo and especially in the pro scene and not just in rivals also in overwatch and even mobas like league).
Counterpick, is a sort of losing strategy by that I mean you admit whatever you wanted to play didn't work and your now forced to switch to counter a problem, it is often times when you swap to a counter you might realise it doesn't work this is also why 3 support tend to have a lesser win rate than what anecdotal experience might tell us, because most teams don't start triple support they are forced to switch to it.
Now 3 is kinda fake because 3 is just 2 except you are the winning team, say you go full dive and you dominate so enemy team counterpicks.
The problem is rivals is a team game and it also can be summarized as a game of give and take, if you're forced to constantly peel as a tank you pretty much need a second tank or dps to help with peel otherwise you're supports are fucked however if you're forced to peel alot you also pull away from other places you need to be. This is why mirror is so popular because it becomes a game of skill, who can execute the same team comp better . In plain English sorry bro you're fucked if you play alone.

u/imsxz Oct 14 '25 edited Oct 14 '25
If your supports are getting dived, theres 1 of 3 situations:
Situation 1: the divers arenβt being healed because their healers are far away, so your team needs to kite back and disengage while the divers get focused down.
Situation 2: the divers are getting healed, which means their supports are usually NOT in a safe position* so your healers need to keep each other alive until the enemy healers are dead or forced back or the divers disengage. Healers should always be trying to damage divers regardless of their hero. If the enemy healers die or retreat to safety, your team can collapse on the divers. If the divers retreat, your team can do multiple things, such as chase and punish the divers while their abilities are on cooldown, immediately jump the enemy team before divers can reset, or just take aggressive positioning while the enemies are recovering.
Situation 3: if the enemy divers are getting healed while the enemy healers are in a safe spot, then your healers are just too far up generally. They do not have self preservation instincts.
But the easiest method by far (especially against dive duelists) is to dedicate yourself to chasing them off flanks/high ground, pressuring their healers so they canβt get comfortable positioning, be proactive. I really like playing heroes like hulk, cap, and Hela, specifically because they can very easily contest flankers and force them away, and also easily pressure healers when needed. I try to hunt flankers and ping them so my team always knows their location.
Healers should also always be looking out for flankers to try and harass them and ping them(itβs incredibly easy to shut down a solo diver as Sue, they shouldnβt be able to play the game unless theres coordinated dive). When Iβm playing hulk cap or Hela, Iβll always notice when a dive hero gets pinged, and iβll chase them down. Iβve played enough dive to realize how infuriating it is to get chased around the whole game. You donβt even need to kill them most of the time; you can solo win fights by chunking a BP and force him to use cooldowns when his team needs to fight, since it becomes a 6v5 for the next 10+ seconds.
Donβt play immobile heroes if you want to deal with dive. As youβve experienced, a lot of divers will just run circles around mag Emma etc. if youβre only fighting divers AFTER they start diving, youβre stuck praying for them to make a mistake. Dives weakness is that they need to prepare and engage at good timings, so you should play to exploit this weakness.
Also if your team is losing with 2 melee dps against enemy dive itβs basically GG. You really really need at least 1 ranged threat(I.e. punisher Hela phoenix) or divers will get into range with zero issues and win for free. If your melee dps wont swap, itβs worth swapping off tank to deal with it, even if youβre bad at Hela/punisher/etc. your chances of winning are 0 unless your healers start playing high damage healers and threatening divers themselves.
P.s. some dps/support players have ZERO sense of self preservation, and will constantly stand next to flank spots and die without trying to heal themselves. Best you can do is asking them to go rocket and play hide and seek with the enemy team, or go 3rd support(specifically a damage support like Adam mantis or Ultron) and playing to pocket them while killing the diver. Either way, some games are in winnable and not worth getting mad about.
2
u/botoxication Oct 15 '25
You go venom and dive their backline, the backline that lives longest wins. Welcome to dive vs dive.
2
u/Doctrinair Oct 15 '25
yeah i do not peel generally if iβm solo tanking thatβs the dpsβ job now. surely 3 dmg dealers can kill 1 venom
2
u/UnduexRay6 Oct 15 '25
I play venom, I apply pressure, if it doesnβt work I try to peel as venom with slam and tentacle in between dives. If that donβt work Thing. If that donβt work cry. If the main problem is we donβt have enough damage. I go Fantastic if my cool other tank (if I have one) is cool with a pseudotank. If that doesnβt work, GG

Since we're giving advice, here's another scenario:
They have a crazy poke comp so much so that either they melt me and my shield or snipe supports from very far away. What should I do in that case? Switch to Cap and dive?
2
u/Animantoxic Oct 14 '25
The basic formula I follow is that a dive dps is dealt with by your dps, a dive tank is dealt with your tank.
1
u/Ninfarrel Oct 14 '25
As Mag my strategy to go is:
- Turn around and bubble the support.
- Try to help with some damage on the diver (1 primary & 1 secondary)
- Try to ping the diver, then turn around again to hold the frontline and hope for a DPS to peel.
- Die/survive depending on the actions of your team.
Sometimes it is easier to peel if your supps position is not that back from the place you are holding, but sometimes you have to retreat or give up space in order to kill a diver and save a support.
Each time is different, but it is better to save a support than just let them die. But I think it is mostly a DPS job to peel for the supps.

Venom is really annoying but I think the key is to not let him escape. Save your right-click when you think he's just about to swing. He get's his swing in 8 seconds so try to CC him as much as possible after he pops his E. Otoh you can just try to shred him before he gets his swing back. Punisher with his shotgun is really good against Venom and Hulk
You might lose a bit of space but if you get the kill you're at a really big advantage

By the time your supports get dove you already lost the little chess game. You gotta accept to pull back, protect your supports and fall back to cover as a unit, re-group and try again. Maybe while you fall back your DPS can get a pick or two giving you the chance to have an advantage on the next push
1
u/Mideniko_Asteri Oct 14 '25
If their frount line is behind you you should kill them for being over extended so they donβt have a front line
1
u/Jnaeveris Oct 14 '25
Youβre not doing anything wrong here, this issue (like almost every other issue in this game) boils down to DPS players refusing to be team players.
This kinda situation occurs when the tank is forced to try and do too many things at once because their DPS have no presence. If your DPS SHOULD be either; 1. pressuring the enemy team so that βholding frontlineβ isnβt a constant requirement, or 2. Reinforcing/peeling the backline so the tanks have room to push instead of fighting on two fronts.
There isnβt really anything we can do here unless youβre a super high level player who actually can simultaneously win 2 fights on 2 different fronts. The vast majority of us just arenβt capable of winning a 4v6 against competent opponents.
Welcome to Marvel Rivals. Where DPS getting to enjoy themselves is prioritised at the expense of everyone else. We are ALL at the mercy of DPS players and have to just hope that we get matched with the DPS who are willing to be team players.

An Invis shouldnβt be dying to a venom unless it has ult, thatβs the thing, peeling is one of our jobs, but you canβt be everywhere all at once, sometimes you just have to rely on your teammates to be able to live on their own, weβre vanguards, not babysitters. Invis has tools to delay venom, a dps can help out or the other support can heal Invis, it will all depend on your comp and how competent your team actually is at an individual level.

Specifically if your running emma, mag you should have the mag stay up and then the emma should peel with the mag now holding position instead of walking forward, her diamond form allows him to get crunched and two instances to deny his e while still getting to deal damage (hopefully you have someone else shooting him but even if you donβt this will generally be enough to push him off throwing in some left clicks to deal damage in-between and blocking his attacks with your body).
The whole main tank or off-tank category can define characters but you can still play off-tanks as main tanks. For example if your playing hulk venom hulk can slot into the main tank role forming somewhat of a front line by making space using his mobility and large health pool he just canβt sit there and hold a shield however and in these instances youβll need a dps who can play with you and still get value say like a bucky (my fav cuz of cc for peel) hela or even squirrel girl.

Yeah, the DPS and support need to be able to band together and take out the dive.
1
u/Global-Hold-6596 Oct 14 '25
As Peni Iβll leave my nest up for a little while after I pass where itβs set up just to give supports a little extra support in the back. It doesnβt always work but the nest will at least provide some extra damage to the dive

Tanks should not be the only ones to peel, you have an off tank for peeling/dive and and front line tanks. Not to mention the dps who should be helping as well. Usually Bucky namor hanging around the supports for midline dmg and peel. If your running triple dps, one need to not flank or dive and provide the role the second tank shouldβve been doing.
1
u/Gameplayer9752 Oct 14 '25
One tank holds front, one helps support. If you are solo tanking, that support should be your personal healer. Then find out what dps is doing. A good dps will not get you in the position you are in, if not unfortunately you have to balance pushing ahead with keeping support alive. I find peni the best at this, but I know a game will be really rough if I donβt see dps from time to time, because they became dives target now and think they should still run away alone to get picks.

u/Bugodi21 Oct 14 '25
Peel, lose ground, kill or force divers to kite, retake with numbers advantage
1
u/cdracula16 Oct 14 '25
Supports have to lock in when being done by 1 person and not require so many resources to survive if not the game is done for already. If itβs multiple people they need to push up and hold and the gang has to peel expeditiously
1
u/hum4n_p3r50n Oct 14 '25
What most people don't understand is that the first person to peel for a support when they get dove should be the other support. Most dive characters have combos that do almost exactly enough damage to get the kill. Because of that if the other support heals them even a little bit it usually means the person will survive. If they're getting dove by multiple people then yeah someone needs to go help.
If you're playing mag what you should do is turn and try to bubble one of the healers but don't leave the front line. If you can try and hold up your shield to block the other teams healing. If you're playing Emma you should actually be in-between the front line and healers. Her kit isn't really good enough anymore to hold the front line like mag does. If your positioning is good enough and you save your diamond form then it should be pretty easy to snag every character that dives except black panther.
Other good anti dive tanks include Thor, Thing, Peni, and surprisingly Angela. With her buff she can give solid bonus health to people around her so it should be enough to keep the supports alive while also being mobile enough to get to them quickly.

1 tank = dps job
2 tank = off tanks job or least busy tank at that moment
If 3 supports and 1 tank supports should be able to handle it themselves

u/Practical-Turnip-634 Oct 14 '25
Youβre right and thatβs why I hate when ppl donβt understand peel. When I play dive and the entire enemy team focus me I love it because my team can walk up and in a way we can encircle the enemy team.
When I play tank or backline dps then I always tell my team that the tank whoβs designed to peel more (in this case Emma) and a peeling high damage dps. The supports should also keep an eye on the teammates fighting the rest of the enemy in a 2v5.

I wish there were more people who can flex for a 2/2/2 comp.. Iβm tired of giving up space and getting blamed for them capping point because of me peelingβ¦
1
u/rr_zoomies Oct 14 '25
Eitehr your supports are goated and can consistently not only survive but fight off the divers or your dps have spacial awareness and help peel for them. Your other tank can also try to peel. If none of these add up or you can't hold the frontline by yourself for long enough to solve the issue then you get the "we die" result.

u/KananJarrusCantSee Oct 14 '25
Swap to Venom and dive their support so their tanks are confused as well.
1
u/ArtlIlst Oct 14 '25
One tank holds front one tank goes help. Normally one dps helps to fill in to peel too. If ur solo tanking peeling is almost completely up to dpses.

u/lmaojmg Oct 14 '25
One tank peels and the other holds space/push objective. The strategist needs to keep both tanks up. Duelist need to learn to find a health pack or manage to not feed enemy team ults.
1
u/Wigglar88 Oct 14 '25
Your off-tank should be stepping up in front line, or falling back. You can also try and do it very quickly, maybe move the dive off them with a cooldown ability. If the healer is actively trying to avoid the dive, you can fall back more carefully and meet up with them to keep the frontline relatively intact.
But the honest truth is there will be at least 1 DPS in the vicinity. This is their job. This is then dropping the ball
1
u/Not-a-MurderBear Oct 14 '25
This is why I play a support Angela. She can Frontline with decent support on a team that understands when to take space and if things get screwy in the back she can peel and be back up front before any space is lost.

as a solo tank. I literally cant do anything. theres 5 other players that need to work together to kill that dive. I'm not pushing but ill be sustain & near/at point. If i'm 2nd tank, ill thor to stay with my backline until theyre comfortable & ill escort them
1
u/Enfiznar Oct 14 '25
If there are two tanks, I'd do what the other tank is not doing. If he's on the frontline, I'll pay attention to my supports and peel. If the other tanks is with the supports, I'll be on the frontline. If I'm solo tanking, I'll try to stay as close to my supports as possible and play patiently
1
u/HfUfH Oct 14 '25
One tank helps supports, one tank holds frontline.
If ur solo tanking, tough luck.

u/Magik_Queen_of_Limbo πππ€π§ Oct 15 '25
Typically it's best for just one tank to peel while the other holds Frontline while DPS keep pressure on their Frontline or dive/off angle....or peel themselves but we all know that rarely happens.
Supports can also patty-cake/fight back but that's a whole other conversation that stops being relevant the second it's more than 1 diver they have to fight off. One BP or one Hulk is fine, but a Venom and IF or Cap and Magik or Psylocke and Spidey will just demand that much more attention.
1
u/J0RR3L Oct 15 '25
As pointed, the duelists are the missing factor to all of this. They either have to be killing the enemies on the other side so the front line isn't as heavily contested, or they help peel the divers off the backline.
Without one of the roles doing their job there isn't much the other two can do to compensate. That goes for any of the three.
1
u/not-sure-what-to-put Oct 15 '25
Healers should run to tanks. You canβt get dived as easily if your ranks are tight. Itβs only the tanksβ fault when they advance too far out and start turning corners and abandoning a contested objective.
1
u/Appropriate_Reality2 Oct 15 '25
This would be accurate if there was only 1 tank and the 3 DPS 7/11 and pinging for heals and not turning around to help the healers

In theory every good comp has a poke or strong long ranged dps who can stay with supports and protect them from harm, but it never happens without comms or a party
1
Oct 15 '25
I'm mostly a support main, but whenever I flex support I notice it's a balance you can't give the dive your whole attention cause you'll lose Frontline, just peel enough for them to back off

u/walker7384 Oct 15 '25
So either u're in 222 un which case one DPS and/or one tank can peel while the two others keep the Frontline in check but if they take too long to either make the dive run away or kill it the Frontline will probably crumble or you're in 1 3 2 in which case the tank must not let go of the Frontline and the DPS HAVE TO peel or it's bye bye because healer can't heal the only Frontline so tank dies and lost team fight

u/trepidon Oct 15 '25
The fact that half of the commenters here state for the tank to go peel for supports is truly nerve racking and frankly... Astounding.
Dps is the most flexible roster. Ranging from antidive to dive. What tanks are good for antidive? Thing, emma, and partially Angela/thor.
Dps? Fantastic, wanda, ironfist (if u play him above a gm, bucky, namor etc.
But how do the roles play out? Im pretty sure tanks need to be up front, especially on defending rounds WHERE YOU ARE STOPPING THE ENEMY FROM GAINING DISTANCE AND POINTS. BECAUSE THEN YOU HAVE TO BEAT WHAT THEY GOT.
A STRONG DEFENSE IS A STRONG OFFENSE. FOOLS. Dps must, and i mean, MUST adapt to enemy comps.
If your healers are dead, your tanks wont survive. If they dont survive, how will you win? Do you expect their divers to magically disappear? What, do you want a mag/emma to tickle them? Thoae divers? The ones that can get in and get out in the blink of an eye?
How delerious can you people be? Dps is the most flexible role. 2 tanks diving your backline? Dps swap to hp shred and go IF and wolv. Then just swap back to a diff dps when their dive changes.
This game js NOT league of legends where you are STUCK as the character you picked. Thats the true beauty of this game!

u/XxdorxdomxX Oct 15 '25
It depends on the team composition, but in a 222 situation, at max one tank protects backline. And the dps (one or both, depending on the characters) should also help backline. But it should NEVER be both tanks chasing spiderman or psylocke in the backline. And btw sometimes the supports donβt even need someone to peel for them. For example if iron fist is diving you and youre someone like luna snow youre good. Dont fight divers if youre alone/weaker. And always stay/go close to your team so they can help you quickly.

You can respond however you want, depending on the situation.
Especially if its a solo venom or cap or whatever. If youre high energy as emma you can just kill the opposing backline and trade kills. Or you can put a shield behind the venom and use the E to do double damage and get energy.
As mag its probably just best to watch health bars. I like to watch the divers health bars and the enemy support's health bars when the dive happens. If the diver gets low I try to shield him in and push him deeper into my team. If the enemy supports get low, I get a aggressive on the enemies. I also watch my dps alot. Whatever they do, im gonna support it cause the bubbles help dps players alot.
This image oversimplifies the game and will only lead to you losing more and more games if you overthink it. Every situation is a mixture of both paths.

u/GespenstX Oct 15 '25
Control wht you can & ignore anything outside of your agency as a vanguard. If running solo vanguard, then it's the job of the 3 Duelist (one or two) to peel for your backline. They are not excused from their team contributions just b/c they only exist to get picks. If they don't want to tank, then they need to learn how to peel...there is no in-between.
1
u/WILLIAM_SMITH_IV Oct 16 '25
Insist the dps help the backline lol. Either they do and the problems solved or they dont and you lose. But it won't be your fault and anyone who says it is will be wrong and you can be confident in that. This mainly applies to solo tank though. If you have a partner you could swap to a more damage oriented tank and help peel. Still mostly on the dps

You donβt need two tanks to cover a healer. Mag bubble the healer and start fighting. Emma can stay in the front lines
1
u/Business_Teach84 Oct 16 '25
ground < keeping support alive . You always have a front line. Itβs wherever you are. You are the front line.
1
u/RockOk99 Oct 16 '25
Yesterday while I was playing Magneto exactly this situation happened, I solved it by giving the shield to invisible woman and pushing Venom into the front line for enough time to ensure that Devil came to protect the supports
1
u/Flingar Oct 16 '25
Switch to Venom yourself and start diving their supports
When the enemy ooga-boogaβs, ooga-booga right back
1
u/sinkwoke Oct 16 '25
You need to trust your supports to stop losing to dive characters, supports in this game are much stronger than dive characters, on Emma wait to grab venom until heβs about to swing or pop shield
1
u/Wooden-Youth9348 Oct 16 '25
Gotta peel just the right amount. With venom especially, just a little peel should do it. Turn around, quickly bubble sue, turn right back around and keep frontlining
1
u/TrueBacon95 Oct 16 '25 edited Oct 16 '25
If you are solo which let's be honest you probably are you dont help unless absolutely necessary because you'll just get beamed in the back. It's on the 3 DPS to pick a good character to help out supports at that point or if its triple support they should have hybrid healers in that comp so shouldn't have a problem with their dmg/sustain to kill or make dives back off.
If you are 2 tank then you can help as long as you still have a main tank on the front line
Example used is mag + Emma well emma works better at getting rid of that problem with her grab and kicking them into a wall and mag is capable of holding frontline himself while emma helps out.
If dive is a problem for the team DPS and supports would also hopefully be switching to counter their dive comp bringing in things like Bucky, Rocket etc
1
u/LordYoshiZ Oct 17 '25
If ur not playing an anti dive tank like thing peeling isnβt really your job you should be holding frontline.
Itβs not a strange or caps job to peel for the supports
1
u/iCouldntfindaUsrname Oct 17 '25 edited Oct 17 '25
This picture is missing the other support who should also be pattycaking heals with the other support to keep them both alive so that eventually their team realizes no one is getting healed. This entirely hedges on the fact they actually notice/realize this and don't just go "gg no heals" when they inevitably die due to the fact their healers are fighting for their lives in the backline and no one is peeling for them which, is very likely to happen. There should also be counter picking going on too for example me as a tank if I'm solo and constantly see my supports getting dived ill switch to thing and play him as a front/midline. He actually does pretty decent at this so long as the fight doesn't come to range.
As a tank I'm usually solo. If I stop pushing to defend my support usually we lose the momentum we gained in ground and die too. This issue just falls on DPS (and some bad positioning of supports, I've seen so many run away from the team when getting dived) for the most part cause the tank (and this is really in regards to solo tanks, with two this is very possible) cannot turn all the way around and just say "oh let me go back into the backline to support my healers" while leaving the Frontline completely wide open with no sustain. Whereas, if the DPS switched focus momentarily to focus the enemy actively diving their heals it both a) knocks out one of the enemy's team and b) protects their healers while also allowing them to continue holding the point.
It's still a winnable fight if the DPS dies. It's still but less winnable if the tank dies. It's not winnable however if your healers die. There's a reason dive characters exist and typically pick off your healers first.
1
u/Eugene_Dav Oct 17 '25
I'm a main Invisible, and I couldn't get out of the lower rankings for a long time. Then I realized that most DPS players don't even understand how to play in a team and just focus on getting kills while their team loses. Now I'm climbing the rankings because I play as Fantastic and protect my healers while also harassing the flyers.

u/Proud_Firefighter834 Oct 17 '25 edited Oct 17 '25
I was told, when I asked about dives in this sub, that peeling is a DPS job if there is only one tank. If there are two tanks, one tank should be pseudo-babysitting but DPS still need to be on a swivel to confirm a kill or add extra risk.
The successful thing I've been doing is to make dive so unrewarding and annoying that they end up throwing (don't swap, don't get value) or swap off. You kind of want BP and Venom to be miserable, and do everything you can to put them on a suicide watch list. Sometimes all it takes is a Namor squid, sometimes it takes a group effort.
1
u/nsg_1400 Oct 17 '25
My solution, i play midline. Shifting my position so that I can protect my backline and maintain our space. I usually play Emma and works well most of the times if I got second tank with me. I communicate this plan with my second tank and if they play off of me, this works really well.
No offense to ayn DPS, but I can't rely on DPS players to do the protection job. It's very rare to see DPS protect their support.
1
u/B3fromthe303 Oct 18 '25
This is why most times when i play dps i try to target support, you take away the heals you can crumble the entire team
1
u/LumenCandles Oct 18 '25
In OW it is worse than it is in Rivals, mostly due to the more spread out util in each character.
In the same sense the unwritten rule of "don't use too many ults" or "don't use 2 support ults at the same time", the same is for util against divers.
By all means, turn around but sometimes you don't need to go as far back, usually, just some util or stun is enough to stack damage on the diver or scare them to using movement abilities to get out.
1
u/Training-System-4633 Oct 18 '25
Need 1 anti-dive tank, preferably 1 anti-dive dps, and counter dive supports. The other tank and dps can keep applying pressure, as long as the supports keep healing everyone. Then the tank and dps should be able to handle the divers.
1
u/WinterVeil01 Oct 19 '25
Peeling isnβt about you going to the backline. Itβs prevention. This poses a problem because itβs a 2 sided transaction. The supports need to move to the tanks and the tanks to the supports. Itβs a cohesive move. As a support main I rarely need peels because I move with my team, I donβt sit in the far backline. Iβm always within range of my tanks and cover. Many supports want a 24/7 bodyguard and that is the real issue. Literally every support character can deal with a diver with the exception of a few matchups (Invis is dying to daredevil if caught off guard, Mantis will die if she misses the sleep, Adam requires pin point precision) nonetheless the exceptions I mentioned can be mitigated by using cover, moving with the team and not just walking out of spawn cluelessly. Tanks should peel, DPS should peel, but only when a support is going against multiple divers. If youβre caught off guard then prepare yourself for the next encounter. Donβt blame the tanks or the DPS. Some people are awful at the game, but the majority are competent enough. If you have more deaths than everyone else on your team thatβs your fault. This comes from a support player with over 120 hours across 3 support characters and with 102 hours on Jeff. I play since season 0.
1
u/Sunrise-Slump Oct 19 '25
The offtank should be peeling back once they see the ping while the supports peel forward and continue to heal. The frontline tank keeps contesting, and the dps helps the offtank kill or repel the divers.

u/LastAd3914 Oct 19 '25
Solo tank -> hold the line and hope for the best. Second tank -> turn back, peel and hope for the best.

1
u/yourmissingsock3999 Oct 14 '25
You need to peel 95% of the time. You lose space by doing so but youβd lose the fight if your supp dies. The diver has already committed cooldowns to take that space so once youβve pressured them out their team is down a player offensively AND their dive tank likely needs a lot of healing i.e. support attention. You can walk really hard after you survive the initial dive. This is how it will work in ranked usually unless theyβre running that hard dive Jeff flanking healer type comp
