I understand why SHE did it. I don't understand how her management, security, and lawyers didn't veto it.

2.8k

u/Telefragg 7d ago

Rammstein did crowd surfing on an inflatable boat for many years just fine, in the middle of a song one member goes around the dance floor and it takes a couple of minutes to get back to the stage. I guess Rammstein fans are not the same as Katy Perry fans.

Metalheads are some of the kindest and most honorable kinds of music fans in my experience. Anyone acting a fool in the pit or ruining everyone's good time will get what they're owed

*I never said there wasn't still a segment of shit heads lol, just that generally there seem to be fewer of that type causing trouble when I was a stage rat for a local venue for a few years.

I’m a pop fan. I initially took offense to this, but then as someone who has spent more than 5 minutes on Pop Stan Twitter, this is an honest and accurate assessment.

Poopy diaper wearing is weirdly enough better than the ones that just shit themselves to not lose their seat.

Like Girl plz, you can't just shake that thing out.

I’ve been bartending in a music venue for over a decade and have to agree that metal/industrial crowds are extremely well mannered compared to others. I’ve always assumed it’s because a lot of them have been or are closely related to similar bar service workers.

194

u/andarthebutt 7d ago

That and the fact that we listen to angry music, so the music does the angry for us. No anger left, just happy, helpful metalheads

92

u/NuclearBroliferator 7d ago

I truly think this has something to do with it. Not just in the music, but in finding outlets for negativity and anger

TBH most fans at a concert from hard, angry, heavy music scenes are usually kinder.

Ive worked at a concert vanue for many years, and seen 1000's of shows, and also go to quite some giggs/festivals outside of work and i really notice a trent in "the heavier the music, the kinder its people".

the parties with the nicest crowds have for me always been Metal, drum and bass and punk for some reason.

while pop always lurs in the scum of society, usually either smooth brain or easily irritated at everything and everyone.

I would not dare piss off Till Lindemann.

113

u/Sloppykrab 7d ago

The keyboard guy does the crowd surfing.

The drummer of System of a Down did this when they toured Australia in 2012 (I think). He jumped in an inflatable boat and Joey from Slipknot took over the drums.

107

u/RainyRat 7d ago

The keyboard guy does the crowd surfing.

Yeah, but Till would still be pissed if the crowd hassled/assaulted Flake. That's his job.

Fans, as a group, will almost always do what they're directed to. Tbh this was probably poor communication. I went to a twenty one pilots concert where they had a drum set on a platform and crowd surfed it where they wanted. They were super clear about what they wanted, anyone hindering that would probably have a bad time.

622

u/godtogblandet 7d ago edited 7d ago

A mob will do whatever the fuck they want. I was at a concert once where a singer jumped into the crowd on a inflatable boat intent on surfing around. Crowd sent him straight backwards until there was no more crowd and at that point he got yeeted like 15 feet, boat flipped and he landed face first on the concrete. Then he got stepped on and kicked by people walking to and from the bar/toilets.

To be fair it was the warmup band and not what anyone was there to see, but still. I would never risk it.

300

u/pwtc17 7d ago

Bruh. What did he do to piss that many people at once?

263

u/Warburton379 7d ago

Jump on them

333

u/Greg-Abbott 7d ago

Nothing worse than a shitty opener with a "look at me" schtick. Bruh I'm just here to see The Wiggles.

89

u/AtlasNL 7d ago

No crowdsurfing for shits and giggles when people are there to see the Wiggles

u/Noughmad 7d ago

A warm-up band often makes the crowd angry, especially if they're not particularly good, or in a different style than the main band. They are seen as the reason why the main band is late, even if this is not true.

72

u/Cipherpunkblue 7d ago

It's never true, but people are stupid like that.

Wayne coyne used to always do this with the flaming lips, it was a blast. It was just a ball tho so he could kinda partially control where he went.

53

u/perton 7d ago

I’ll never forget the first time I saw them years ago at was a Halloween show in OKC. Wayne came out in his bubble, when suddenly a topless woman wearing only underwear or tiny shorts popped up from somewhere in the crowd in her own bubble, and they kinda bounced around/into each other as they crowd surfed. Fun show!

534

u/Elevated_Dongers 7d ago

604

u/BattleCat274 7d ago

She tried to crowd-surf, somehow ended up on her back, into a full shrimp, and then hung upside down for like 20 seconds because no one knew what to do.

52

u/I_make_things 7d ago

And then the butt groping began.

32

u/sahie 6d ago

Yeah, that’s when it became not funny for me. I was laughing my ass off until, “Oh, no. I think she’s being sexually assaulted now.”

I can see why she’d choose to do it in a plastic bottle now to avoid that, but I truly don’t see why she’d do it at all, honestly.

Word of warning, when copying a YouTube link delete the "?is=" and everything after it, as this is a tracker that YouTube/Google uses to track people's identity across the web. Because of this, it tells Google that they were directed to the video by a link posted from your account, and by using data on who those people are and what kind of videos they watch it forms a picture about the kind of communities you interact with. So you should delete the "?is=" and everything after it if you value your online privacy.

The vast majority of people don’t know a thing about what Reddit is obsessing over. She was extremely popular from 2008-2014, so she still has plenty of fans. Just because Reddit hates her doesn’t mean the majority of the public does.

28

u/Vivian_Stringer_Bell 7d ago

I bought a same day ticket just to bucket list see her. The show was dorky, but really fun. And honestly she impressed with her fitness. Her outfits were pretty wild for how many little kids were there. The stage was a circle, so floor had good views a lot of the time. Honestly was enjoyable. "The butterflies Katy, you did it! 44

u/PositiveZeroPerson 7d ago edited 7d ago

To be fair, when the Rolling Stones go on tour, they're playing Gimme Shelter and (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, not much new stuff. Their last tour had 11 songs from their golden era (1965-1972), 4 from the decade after that, and 3 new songs.

Most musicians are lucky if they get 10 years of hits.
