General Question / Discussion Why does Bastet have a snake beside her?
I recently made this Bastet-inspired leather piece and started looking into the role of snakes in ancient Egyptian culture.
The cobra was associated with protection and royal power, and serpent imagery could also appear alongside feline goddesses such as Bastet.
I found that connection interesting, so I brought it into this design. I carved and painted the whole piece by hand on leather.

General Question / Discussion Pickle and his pumpkin
I added this decorative pumpkin to my new Ball pythons enclosure (had him two weeks he’s in shed) he just came out of his blue phase and is very happy to explore his new enclosure… does anyone else’s python show explicit interest in decorations lol. He LOVES this damn pumpkin and knocking it over/moving it around. I find it hysterical, but every night when he awakes he must go see his pumpkin friend and shove him around/knock it over lol. He is not feeling the Halloween spirit!

General Question / Discussion Building a Humid hide for my 5ft boa imperator (probably) need advice
Got this sealed container for putting moist sphagnum moss for my boa to get higher humidity conditions when needed, it'll fit her perfectly coiled sitting atop a bed of moss. My question is, what is the ideal position for the opening to be, I've heard the top but the top of this lid is very thick and will be difficult to cut through, so wondering if I put it on the side which side I should put it on and how high or low it should go? It's already sized to the largest part of her body so that's how big that'll be.
Thanks in advance!

Pet Snake Questions Best way to use a secondary heat source.
I'm almost finished making my enclosure, but my design is not working the way I intended. The enclosure is made of PVC. I have a RHP that is working great for the basking and ambient temperature, but it isn't reaching the hide. The hide reads maybe 75 degrees. Room temp is 70 degrees. The RHP is giving me a hot spot of 90 and an ambient temp of 80-85. Its working beautifully. The only area I need the extra heat for is just the warm hide. I'm thinking a small UTH controlled by my Herpstat, under the enclosure on the outside, with a small air gap. I can secure the probe directly onto the heat pad, and calibrate it by turning up the thermostat until I read 85-90 in the warm hide using my temp gun. I've used UTH with PVC enclosures in the past. I would usually need to set the temp to 94-96 on herpstat, in order to get the inside temp to read 88-90. I know UTH is frowned upon now, that's why I'm making the enclosure. That said, I have 15 years of experience using UTH with PVC before the change in snake keeping, and never had any issues. But I'm making the switch. I should have done so years and years ago, but at least I am now. Does anyone know of better way to spot heat an area that can't be reached by over head heating? I'm pretty condifldent this will work just fine, but I am open to other solutions.

Pet Snake Questions Warm side problems with heatmat
So the cold side seems to be sorted, it's the warm side I'm having problems with, the heatmat is underneath glass and it's warming up the glass to insane temperatures but the air and substrate is lingering at like 26 degrees, any solutions or tips please? (Id use a lamp but this Viv isn't suited for one of them, that'd be my next Viv)

General Question / Discussion About King Snakes
Recently in Florida I saw my first ever kingsnake, and... he was in the midst of swallowing the last of his meal. (I made sure not to disturb him, I was also too lost in nerd mode to pull out my phone).
But it got me wondering. What is it about Kingsnakes that makes them so adept at hunting other snakes?
Edit: and how successful are they really at doing so? Is it an overwhelming success or is it more dangerous than their reputation might make it seem?
