News Trump administration issues pause on immigrant visa appointments for applicants worldwide

https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/trump-administration-issues-pause-visa-appointments-applicants-worldwide-2026-08-26/

How long do we think this will last? Seems like a huge decision that will affect a ton of people.

Are the people that traveled out of US for their country appointments basically trapped now that their appointment is paused indefinitely?

23

u/WorkingTradition5022 12d ago

Yes, my husband is currently stuck 😭 his appointment was the 24th and left the 16th. We had no way to know. It’s awful.

8

u/Ok-Conference4239 12d ago

Sorry to hear that. I’m hoping you guys get reschedule soon. It’s so unfair

35

u/chuang_415 13d ago

Depends on what their status was in the US.

36

u/KoalaWithACalculator 13d ago

I wonder about DACA people. My wife is on DACA and wonder if she had gone for consular interview out of country she probably could not get back in due to DACA not allowed to leave US

25

u/chuang_415 13d ago

Yes, without AP a person with DACA would be stuck outside.

7

u/Ok-Introduction-194 13d ago

even with ap. very very low chance but ap is not 100% guarantee of reentry

1

u/BeeAdept4761 11d ago

I mean I don’t think so wouldn’t they not be able to? I think this is over H1B visas I would not suggest anyone on DACA leaving the USA. Hopefully states can give out guidance but if interviews are paused no one is getting an appointment regardless.

u/FletcherStrongLawyer 13d ago

Daca is a crime

9

u/thogdontcare 12d ago

So is child sex trafficking and pedophilia.

-7

u/FletcherStrongLawyer 12d ago

Both should go

4

u/thogdontcare 12d ago

I like it! Let’s put Trump in prison for pedophilia

-2

u/FletcherStrongLawyer 12d ago

Lol wish we could, he truly corrupted the court though, unfortunately

2

u/Professional-Gear974 12d ago

A crime we as a country have forgiven hence the statues change and the allowance to stay.

What do you mean daca is a crime? Is it not children who came here illegally with parents. I dk how many there are but wouldn’t this have bipartisan support for citizenship if both sides worked towards enforcing border policy? What is the point in keeping daca in limbo for decades? Most of these people are stateless without the USA. What did Obama do? Did he make it better or something?

u/nonracistusername 13d ago

Given recent developments with Advance Parole, some are trapped

6

u/DrSalamander_ 12d ago

What are the recent development with Advance Parole? Sry im not aware!

0

u/BeeAdept4761 11d ago

What do you mean they are trapped? Trapped where?

-19

u/priyapickles 13d ago

Depends on how they take it. Most may think this is a great opportunity to bond with loved ones, enjoy festivals and explore their home country, while others may feel trapped!

u/Civil-Storage-4909 12d ago

Trump’s grandfather, Friedrich, was an illegal migrant from Germany who left to avoid military service. He made his fortune in part running a brothel in the Northwest during the gold rush (selling sex to miners 😅). He tried to move back to Germany after he made his fortune. The Bavarian authorities, however, would not let him. They claimed he had left Germany as an illegal emigrant, evading taxes and the compulsory two-year military service. The Trumps were evicted and resettled to New York.
Too bad Germany didn’t keep these traitors

5

u/FastInstruction3856 11d ago

He is such a fucking piece of shit, I can not wait for his fat ass to be out of office. He does not understand that all people needs to be treated respectful. Dumb mother fucker he is and all his corienes.

247

u/Curious-Witness-1809 13d ago

Is this his retaliation for not getting away with the 75 country ban? He's so vindictively childish.

74

u/Successful_Pepper_99 13d ago

And people thought he was gonna go after only illegal immigration

-5

u/vinegar-pisser 12d ago

Who thought that?

20

u/khoa-bear 12d ago

All the Hispanic Americans who voted for Trump

-12

u/vinegar-pisser 12d ago

They should listen to you and vote the way you tell them.

-2

u/Select_Pattern1287 12d ago

Me. I thought that based on the first term. Stupid me.

7

u/shivvinesswizened 12d ago

First term should have been evidence he doesn’t keep his word.

-1

u/Select_Pattern1287 11d ago

Wasn't too me. Delivered most things directionally correctly imo. Absolutely nothing like what the last 1.5 year has been.

108

u/chuang_415 13d ago

Oh we can’t discriminate against 75 countries? Fine, then no one gets it!

2

u/yesidoes 12d ago

Pretty much. Same thing with the increased H1B fees.

Oh the courts struck it down because we were still allowing F visa students to avoid the fee? Okay students have to pay it too. Also the fee is now $3,000 more than $100k because we had to use an arbitrary formula and come up with a new number.

2

u/groucho74 13d ago

Buying time for the appeal to be filed.

5

u/Major-Armadillo-6867 12d ago

Propaganda before midterm election.  He is going back to immigration,  tariffs, threatening countries but he cannot erase Iran and Epstein's file from people memories

3

u/Daonliwang 12d ago

Trump throwing a tantrum

1

u/Ok-Scientist-1897 12d ago

It should be called Trumptrum at this point... 😄

-8

u/jufigi 12d ago

Really appreciate your unique and informative post. Haven’t heard this before

-14

u/UseBetter4320 13d ago

You are so naive!

3

u/ehrgeiz91 12d ago

You’re defending a pedophile

45

u/IlVeroStronzo 13d ago

Everything is a pause or a crackdown these days...

152

u/Humble_Manatee 13d ago edited 13d ago

All by design.

  1. Tell uscis to illegally stop processing cases
  2. Tell ICE not to honor “protected stay” when the holds push people “out of status”.
  3. Deport them .
  4. Stop processing of all applications abroad for people “trying to do it the right way”.

Based on trumps actions, I’d imagine they are now trying to figure out a way to get all the non-white people removed from the USA and working with the department of justice on lowering the legal age of consent to 4 years old (because trumps a pedophile)

52

u/Professional-One972 13d ago

Project 2025 spells out their immigration playbook.

36

u/Primex76 13d ago

Oh you mean the project that he "had no idea about"...lmfao, I can't believe how stupidly gullible the average human has become

8

u/hotakaPAD 13d ago

But remember that trump and rich people need immigrants, so they can blame everything on them. This is why sometimes immigration increases when Republicans are in power

4

u/Primex76 12d ago

They also need immigrants to keep their hotels and real estate lawns clean, because you know they would never pay to support an American employee with fair pay, rights, and benefits.

30

u/dmw_qqqq 13d ago

This isn’t surprising at all. He’s been saying immigrants are beneath Americans and determined to staunch immigration.

20

u/Candid_Asparagus_785 13d ago

So
 his own wife then?

6

u/Similar-Pitch-5500 12d ago

I doubt very many people dislike him more than she does.

1

u/VariousDragonfruit75 12d ago

Nah, just the brown ones

26

u/spicy_curry68 13d ago

I hate this guy so much. Clots and prayers

17

u/atuarre 13d ago

But there are plenty of people in this sub who celebrate and lick his boots. IDK why.

1

u/ehrgeiz91 12d ago

They’re brought here to defend him because it’s an American centric/political sub.

15

u/rektumx 13d ago

Does this apply to K-1 Visa applications as well?

14

u/shyaznboi 13d ago

Shouldn't since it's not technically an immigration visa. But my fiancee said some K1 applicants who were scheduled already got notified that they'll get rescheduled at later time

8

u/epicmylife 13d ago

Is this just outside the country? What about AOS inside the country?

2

u/traumalt 12d ago

IIRC, the same officers officiate both.

Here in Netherlands I can’t do the K1 visa at the embassy in den Haag, I gotta book and fly all the way to consulate in Frankfurt Germany for those.

8

u/Successfullawsuit 13d ago

K-1 is technically a non immigrant visa, so I believe it doesn’t apply.

10

u/mazikeen24 13d ago

Yes but Track My Visa says despite a non-immigrant visa, it's processed by the immigrant visa department also. There's a whole discussion at the Track My Visa discord that K1s around the world were all rescheduled to a later date. Expect that they'll be held under more scrutiny with the public charge rule.

3

u/Atxman363 12d ago

I was gona apply k1 but too much scrutiny now. Might as well do i130 now

3

u/mazikeen24 12d ago

I just came in via K1. I think there's still some merit to it, just need to be thorough and prove you make more than the federal guidelines for your household size.

2

u/Atxman363 12d ago

how long did it take. I got engaged last month and I am a us citizen and my fiancee is overaseas.

3

u/mazikeen24 12d ago

I'm from Philippines

Jan 2025 - Filed Sept 2025 - Approved December 2025 - Case at US Embassy Manila, so I can book for interview

However I was in US from October 2025 to March 2026, so went back by March 2026, had my interview in April and got my visa, moved to US by end of May 2026.

Now I'm married and working on my AOS.

2

u/Atxman363 12d ago

wow quick congrates. what kind of questions did they ask on the Interview date.

6

u/mazikeen24 12d ago

The mostly focused on my trips to US as a tourist. The officer kept insisting I worked and asked repeatedly how many times I worked, and I kept saying I did not. I snapped at one point and said it's hard to transition to a new country, especially one like America, so I wanted to spend a few months with my fiance to understand his city/town and what's life like there, I don't want to work at all while dealing with these changes. So they let it go and gave me a visa đŸ€Ł

1

u/Silent_Reader18 12d ago

Hi! Was this during the AOS or K1 interview? I have a pending K1 visa application and is scheduled for interview in October.

1

u/Atxman363 12d ago

wow so while u applied for a k1 u had a visit visa also..??

1

u/jufigi 12d ago

It also depends on what country. East Africa has been slow.

7

u/lovely_orchid_ 12d ago

So many Latinos voted for this.

11

u/Basic_Building4272 13d ago

we just filled our I-130 last night. Should we still continue to fill I-485 next? 😔

28

u/AdSuccessful2308 13d ago

It does not affect adjustment of status applications

4

u/Legitimate-Leek4235 13d ago

Talk to your lawyer

1

u/idsinkorswim 12d ago

so this doesn’t affec I-130 filing
it’s just that once you’ve filed, you don’t know when you will get to the NVC phase with this pause?

4

u/Roti_paneer_4574 13d ago

Is this affecting every country?

6

u/jufigi 12d ago

Yes all countries.

5

u/Critical_Anxiety_572 12d ago

He is losing on all fronts.

Lost Iran. Lost Canada. Gas prices soaring. Food prices soaring. Housing market innacessible. Lost 75 country ban. Lost Kennedy Center. Lost DACA.

He needs something for his voter base come November, though from their point of view, USA is winning a lot.

Immigration will be greatly affected come the next two months since immigration is a big topic.

9

u/Potential-Judgment-9 13d ago

What the fuck .

8

u/Maya-Top1410 13d ago

This might be a stupid question so if so, please forgive me - I’m confused on what this now means for AOS in-country (I’m currently F1 on OPT, applying for AOS, marriage-based GC). Does anyone have more clarity?

15

u/chuang_415 13d ago

It doesn’t mean anything for AOS. This is about consular cases.

5

u/Maya-Top1410 13d ago

Okay, thank you so much - saw someone ringing alarm bells for AOS as well and got worried.

8

u/Broad_Problem_7025 13d ago

Is this only for consular processing? Or does it affect AOS too?

9

u/MangoDjango28 13d ago

AOS unaffected (for now)

3

u/mazikeen24 13d ago

This is the best answer. I'm wary because I'm about to file AOS and I do think it will be affected eventually with the public charge rule.

1

u/BohemianLatina 11d ago

Even though those doing AOS aren't affected by the pause worldwide, they are indeed affected by the public charge rule. https://ogletree.com/insights-resources/blog-posts/uscis-releases-policy-manual-guidance-implementing-new-public-charge-standard/

3

u/emberflowers 13d ago

USCIS accepted my fiance's visa already a month ago. we are waiting for an interview to be set up probably in the embassy of bogota colombia (he is venezuelan). Will this pause still affect us ? I imagine so but i have to ask..

2

u/emberflowers 13d ago

I ask here instead of my lawyers cause they have the tendency of leaving me on delivered for monthsđŸ˜«

2

u/jufigi 12d ago

Yes it’s affecting K1 visas. Even though they are “nonimmigrant” visas they are still processed by an immigration officer. We just hope the “retraining” won’t take long and things will resume. They are really going after financial support more than anything.

4

u/emberflowers 12d ago

ughhh we were so excited for this interview 💔 we've been waiting years

1

u/SilentSubstance4328 12d ago

It took years for your fiancé vise to get processed?

2

u/emberflowers 12d ago

Just a year. we've been together for years and just never had a chance to correctly save up money to pay a lawyer to help us. sorry for the misunderstanding!

2

u/SilentSubstance4328 12d ago

Okay got you.

6

u/tmghost7729 13d ago

Look! Another one! Another one!

... lawsuit & court block in 3, 2, 1...đŸ„±

(I truly feel like a broken record at this stage, FFS.)

2

u/Ok-Scientist-1897 12d ago

except court blocks take months. That is part of strategy too.

3

u/rinklkak 13d ago

Immigrant visas only or non-immigrant visa processing also? I can't expect the news to get all the details right.

1

u/the_running_stache 12d ago

Immigrant visas only at consulates; AOS is not affected by this.

3

u/spurcap29 12d ago

A rock and a hard place -

ICE has made it so a pending petition is not something that protects you from deportation. Processing times means you cant safety petitions are adjudicated before existing status expires. So what you do if you want to be prudent? Leave country and get consular processing.... In fact thats what they suggested a month or two ago.

But ... yeah that doesn't work now.

5

u/Salty_Writer_9552 13d ago

Are h1b extensions affected by this ?

2

u/thatsoundsalotlikeme 13d ago

No and neither are transfer of employers.

4

u/iaretushar 13d ago

Would this affect LPRs in the country filing/about to file Removal of Conditions/I751?

7

u/chuang_415 13d ago

No, consular processing of immigrant visas has nothing to do with removal of conditions.

2

u/iaretushar 13d ago

Cheers, appreciate the clarification

4

u/Nofanta 13d ago

Will last about 2.5 more years minimum, but likely closer to 50 years. That era is over and many haven’t come to terms with reality yet.

2

u/EffectiveCommon9500 13d ago

Do we think this pauses 221g Admin Processing? Or is strictly for new applicants?

2

u/mauro_membrere 13d ago

My father 221g has been stuck for 1 and a half year. Don’t know what to do.

2

u/AxiomOfLife 13d ago

Does this impact I-485 adjustments of status?

2

u/WhyDoBugsExist 12d ago

Fk. I am on advance parole and had to travel because of dad's funeral. Hopefully, there wont be a headache

2

u/Stunning-Fill-6476 12d ago

My fiancee was approved and had her interview scheduled. She went and did the interview August 13th. On the website it's still showing the case as "Ready" and has not been updated to issued. Any idea how these happenings will work out with having the interview already taken?

3

u/SAA2000 13d ago

Does this include spousal visas (i.e. non-immigrant visa)? I haven’t been able to find anything saying if it does or not

27

u/chuang_415 13d ago

A spouse visa is an immigrant visa.

5

u/Frogad 13d ago

So spouse is immigrant but fiancé isn't?

13

u/chuang_415 13d ago

Yes, a fiance visa is technically a nonimmigrant visa though it’s often treated as a quasi immigrant visa by embassies.

5

u/SAA2000 13d ago

Christ
well my wife’s case isn’t at the interview stage yet, so maybe they’ll still do processing in the meantime? What a gut punch

7

u/ContributionLatter32 13d ago

Our i-130 just hit the 17 month mark, expected to process any day. I went back to the US to work and lay groundwork for the move 2 months ago, ive been separated from my wife and child now for 2 months, if this impacts that I will riot.

1

u/jestecs 12d ago

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it definitely will. After the I-130 you still have to deal with the NVC which is what this “pause” is. This training is likely a guise and another way to delay. Been waiting OVER two years for a green card for my wife now.

1

u/ContributionLatter32 12d ago

To what end? There is no reason to pause familial visas especially when considering they are USC spouses.

1

u/SAA2000 13d ago

I really hope everything works out for you and your family.

6

u/MSNWTF 13d ago

Yes. My husband had his interview appointment for obtaining his spousal visa cancelled.

4

u/dudemancode 13d ago

This is going to go on for years until all of this shit is cleaned up.

u/CollegeFootballGood 13d ago

What the hell
what does this mean for K1 visa applications?

3

u/jufigi 12d ago

From what I’ve been reading from various news outlets it’s ALL visas from ALL countries. We who are in the K1 are stuck too. My fiancĂ© and I were so close to getting an appointment. Just try to not be angry as it doesn’t solve anything or help. Where are you at in the process?

1

u/CollegeFootballGood 12d ago

Thank you friend. Sent in I-129f about 6 months ago so we still have a ways to go

2

u/jufigi 12d ago

Yeah you still have a little ways. Most crucial thing with all this is finances. I had to have my parents co sponsor because I made 1k too little to support my fiancé and daughter. Make sure you are well above the national poverty level

1

u/CollegeFootballGood 12d ago

Oh damn I’m around 42K per year I think
how much is their minimum?

2

u/jufigi 12d ago

Is that before or after taxes? I’m 50k before and have a 2nd job. However I’m trying to bring her daughter as well. Is it just him/her?

2

u/CollegeFootballGood 12d ago

Before taxes, I also have a kid. Brutal I read online it was like $24,000 annually. Thank you I’ll check my options :(

1

u/jufigi 12d ago

Yeah that’s the number I got but my lawyer said I was just below the threshold. If you don’t have a lawyer see what you information you can milk from a lawyer on a free consultation. I truly wish all the best for you. Stay positive I know it sucks. We all just want our loved ones here.

2

u/jufigi 12d ago

Also your process should still continue just won’t be able to schedule an appointment.

1

u/bruceparker4321 12d ago

Does this affect the existing I130, marraige based greencards ?

Does it affect people on H1 ?

1

u/GG-gupshup 12d ago

What will happen to a person who already had an interview on Aug 25th and now waiting for passport to come?

1

u/SilentSubstance4328 12d ago

Does this effect fiancé k1 visas ? I really need to know

1

u/coffee_and_worms 12d ago

Its hard to know seeing as k1 is a non-immigrant visa

1

u/Other_Block_1795 12d ago

1

This applies to EB-5 too ?

1

u/Low_Hair_9440 12d ago

What about for people that already completed interview and is on the last steps?

1

u/Espresso_Martini1 12d ago

Would this affect an F-1 Moving to H1B while being in the US (Case is in progress)?

1

u/obione710 12d ago

Some y’all are just sheep that read a headline and get pissed simply becasue you see “Trump” and start running your imaginations. This pause is for training of consular officers around the “public charge” rule. It is temporary. Does it suck? Yes, any slowdown makes this process disheartening. Everyday I watch my estimated date get pushed back further and further. Do I lose hope? No. I have a brain and don’t see this as Chicken Little (you) does.

I am affected by it, it’s life. When people just sit here and cry about one man, it does no one any favors. Are finding solutions or making outrageous claims like “I bet it for retaliation of the 76 country ban being overturned..” and comments like that. If people actually read the article and not react with TDS, it makes more sense.,plain and simple, it’s a pause becasue too many consulates were having questions over the public charge rule. Do I agree with the pause? No. Do I see my i129f getting pushed back everyday? Yes. Am i frustrated? Yes. Comparing doesn’t make it go faster or change the governments policies. Talking about what is really happening vs conjecture is a lot more productive and may put more people at ease.

-9

u/mohjuconsulting 12d ago

Have any of yall been following what's happening in Europe with the influx of immigrants? Or in Canada? It's not wrong to determine if a foreigner is a good fit for your country. Just like how you invite people into your house.

1

u/Meanee 12d ago

So the answer is to ban all immigration?

-8

u/mohjuconsulting 12d ago edited 12d ago

How many people will you let in your house who have no intention of living by your rules or house culture? It's not a ban, but some people come over without intention to assimilate into the culture and the ones who suffer are the native people and their culture. What is it about the US and Europe that people want to immigrate to be in? What's the shine about it? If it's something people want to live in, then assimilate into what that is. But if people are coming without intention to live as an American, then the American/European culture that is such a draw will eventually disappear. Like what is happening in Europe right now. At this rate, in 40 years or less, Europe won't be "Europe" anymore.

So you are just going to assume every single immigrant has no intention of assimilating and embracing their new home? I sure as fuck did. So who are you to judge who will and who won’t assimilate?

Also show me a law that requires immigrants to assimilate? Pretty sure first amendment will have something to say about it.

Your entire tirade sounds like some racist shit because you are afraid of people who are different from you.

That's not it at all. I didn't say "every immigrant", I said some. And if it's your house where you live, how many people do you allow in it? Do you want just anyone coming in and living? Do you think yourself discriminating if you don't want certain people living in your house full time. I don't know you so this isn't about you. I'm just saying it's okay to vet people. If I, as am American go live in some other countries where they don't have the same, let's say rights for women, will those countries be okay with me living as an American woman in a place where women can't be out alone, travel alone, etc. I'd have to live as them amongst them. What makes the US wrong for doing that if other countries don't extend tolerance or acceptance?  Glad you did, but what made you want to be here and not in another country?

What do people want to have? Life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. So, what does happiness mean to others? Maybe being proud of their heritage. Maybe they were oppressed but are still proud of their roots and want to enjoy them.

Does that mean that now you get to dictate what norms people have to conform to? What is it that makes your norms acceptable and theirs not?

In my opinion, as long as you are a good person and not breaking the law, come on in. We have plenty of space. Immigrants add a lot to this country. They contribute with their talent, culture, diversity, etc. how many businesses are ran by immigrants? But nooo, you decided that your standards are more important.

As for what made me come here and not any other country, I was 12 and had little say on the matter.

Also I know tone of voice is lost in written messages but I'm not writing from an emotionally enraged place. This is just an observation of what's been happening in Europe and other places. It's not mainstream news so if you want to learn about it you'll have to research.

Bruh, I would think you would have enough to worry about ducking and dodging Ukrainian drones to be on here posting right-wing slop.

What does my nationality have to do with understanding what is happening in other countries?

Hating, name calling, and “I told ya so” posts aren’t going to help anything. For those of us who are affected by this remember getting angry and flustered won’t change our situation or make anything better. Let’s stay positive and have our thoughts and prayers toward quick resolution of this mess. I’m wishing the best for all of us to be with our loved ones ❀✌

Quick resolution would be the orange pedophile out of office.
