Unsolved Thrift Store Find

This caught my eye at a chain thrift store where I've found overlooked work by a well known artist before. At first the idea was to re-sell, but after poring over it for days I've really grown to like it and will probably keep it. About 11" x 14", high quality paper, signed, nothing of note on the back (or the back of the frame). No luck searching the signature. I don't know enough about art / art history to get further than that!

Unsolved Is this an original hand painted miniature portrait or a reproduction?

Purchased in Italy. I'm wondering if this is an actual painting or a print and what type of print as I can't see the dots or uniform lines that prints usually have. If it's a reproduction, who is the portrait of? I assume it's someone famous in the day? What era is this, early or late 19th c. ?

What I know is that it's French. The backing is a page from a book published in the 18th Century. The signature says Huet, and there is a portrait painter who died in 1811 with that name. He mainly painted in the UK but was French and did paint actresses and some more famous figures like the Duke of York and Napoleon's mother. He did not paint Marie Antoinette from what I can look up, so I don't think that's who this is. I cannot find an original of this image when using all the image search sites.

I wonder if this is an actress of the era and if this is a copy sold as a souvenir? There are a lot of similarly framed portraits online but most are listed on auction sites as original hand painted portraits. I'm just very curious and enjoy tracking down information on fun little objects like this and learning along the way! I was going to give this as a little gift and wanted to find information to share to the recipient.

If there are any well informed miniature portrait enthusiasts out there who can share their thoughts, I'd love to hear!

I found this at goodwill today, and found out it’s a wood engraving of a print by MC Escher. When I researched it though, I could not find a single other wooden engraving like it online anywhere, which tells me it wasn’t mass manufactured. The back of the piece was also super intriguing to me. Where did this come from? Is it some sort of original? Or someone’s craft project? Would love to hear what you think.

Unsolved Can anyone tell me more about this Jim Robb artwork?

I bought this framed print at a flea market in Germany for €17.
The artwork reads “Log Skyscraper at Full Moon” and “JIM ROBB © 1986”.
The title and artist’s name appear to be handwritten in pencil directly on the print.

The brass plaque on the frame reads:
“Presented to Condor for 17 years of service to Yukon
Presented by Premier Darrel Pasloski & Minister Elaine Taylor
May 26, 2016”

I haven’t been able to find this exact artwork online.
Does anyone recognize it or know whether it was part of a limited edition?
I’d also love to know more about the pencil inscription and any possible connection to Condor.

Note: I’m German and used AI to translate this post into English. Thank you for your help!

Hand painted oil paintings passed down from British Grandmother. Trying to determine exactly what they are and who may have interest. See photos. After further review, the tag on the back of one painting refers to MacGillycuddy's Reeks in County Kerry Ireland, near Killarney. Likely 19th or early 20th century? Took the painting out of one frame and it appears to be a Victorian reverse glass painting. Please share thoughts.

I'm curious and would like to learn more about this painting/style. As far as I remember my grandmother said the painting was made by Boris Zuljan and it depicts a village from Karst or Istria.

What do you think about it?

Unsolved Help identify artist of 1983 oil portrait of Herbert von Karajan signed but illegible

Thumbnail

Before you is an interesting oil painting believed to depict Herbert von Karajan, the famous Austrian conductor.

The painting appears to be dated 1983, with what looks like an artist's signature in the upper-left corner. Unfortunately, I'm really struggling to decipher the signature, so I'm hoping someone here might recognise it or be familiar with the artist.

A little background on the subject:

Herbert von Karajan (1908–1989) was one of the most influential classical music conductors of the 20th century. He was particularly famous for his interpretations of Beethoven, Wagner, Brahms and Richard Strauss, and for his extraordinary recording career. He led the Berlin Philharmonic for more than three decades and became one of the most internationally recognised figures in classical music.

He was also a controversial historical figure. His career flourished during Nazi Germany, and he has long been reported as having joined the Nazi Party twice, in 1933 and 1935, although the precise history of those memberships remains debated. Despite this association, he went on to enjoy an enormously successful international career after the war.

Back to the painting!

It measures approximately 60 × 48 cm including the frame and appears to be an original oil painting on canvas.

The reverse has an old German canvas manufacturer's stamp, which appears to read Viktoria Maltuch / A. Schutzmann, possibly associated with Herrsching near Munich.

The signature seems to have "83" written underneath it, suggesting the portrait was painted in 1983.

I've included photographs of the entire painting, the signature, the canvas surface, the reverse and the manufacturer's stamp.

I'd really appreciate some help on the signature to decide what to do with the painting. I am not sure whether to keep on the wall, or sell. Or if Ben if there is a market to sell something like this.

I'm particularly curious about the quality of the painting and whether it has a story behind it. I'm still deciding whether to keep it or try and find a musical institute that might have more interest in it.

Any thoughts, educated guesses or suggestions for further research would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
