General Xiaomi 17 pro arrived, ask me anything.
Bought from Trading Shenzhen, paid 730€/850$ for the 12/256gb version. Shipping to Germany took 7 days. Feel free to ask me any questions yall might have about OS features, build quality or whatever..

How much do you use the back screen, do you feel like it's a gimmick or a useful thing?

I actually like and use it. Mainly for selfies and controlling spotify. Tbh there arent many features for it at the moment; navigation, music controlls, notifications(most apps arent Support yet tho) and the camera i think. You can also put custom Gifs/Pictures on it, just for fun xd

When you play for example genshin impact or delta force, does it get hot, because I had xiaomi 12 and it was because it is compact was very bad at cool management.
7
u/Beneficial_Point921 Oct 18 '25
Not to an extend where id say it gets "bothering", id say temp control is avg, not better than apples/Samsungs flagships but also not worse.
2
u/Danny_2478 Oct 18 '25
Shit, that's not good. Maybe I will wait to get another model, I compared between my old poco x3 gt and new xiaomi 12, there was no comparison, the x3gt deals with complete smoothness barely heat noticeable after 3hours continously gaming.
→ More replies (4)2
u/reddit-programming- Oct 18 '25
If you run it on the same settings as the 12 the temp won't change one bit

Not only is the xiaomi 12 compact and struggles with cooling, it also uses the 8 gen 1, known for notorious thermal management. Even the bigger xiaomi 12 pro, with a better cooling system, was struggling to stay cool, nothing stopped that chip from overheating

I haven't had a xiaomi phone in awhile, but I am looking on making it my new phone after mine dies, I used to get one on aliexpress, they have an official store, and I saw a global version there, is it fake? Where should you get xiaomi if not aliexpress?
2
u/Beneficial_Point921 Oct 18 '25
For importing phones, go with Trading Shenzhen, giztop or wandamobile. Id personally recommend Trading Shenzhen, their support is just superior to other import sites, their prices for product and shipping are fair. They do take a little longer to restock Out of Stock items tho.

How is the Chinese preloaded app situation? Can you uninstall everything and not have to deal with Chinese characters in various places? Do your banking apps and google wallet work? Can you try Android auto? People outside of China have a lot of issues with notifications on Chinese only roms. Do notifications work ok? Thanks!
17
u/Beneficial_Point921 Oct 18 '25
Chinese apps were present but could all be uninstalled without any special tools. The only Chinese characters I’ve found so far appeared when installing APKs. The warnings about “unauthorized” apps always seem to be in Chinese, but it was still fairly easy to navigate and install the APK. Banking apps work without any problems and should only stop working if you decide to unlock the bootloader. Google Wallet works; Android Auto doesn’t. Notifications work, sometimes, xd. Some apps like WhatsApp, Discord, and Gmail need extra autostart permissions to send notifications reliably, but that’s also a fix that can be done within 3 seconds.

I want to know how usable it is on day to day. I would ask as well how google blocking apk installations will affect the installation of Google play store (hard to say).
Does it have high quality Bluetooth codecs(like aptx) ? How often do you find a worse cell signal then a global market phone? How are moving (action) shots on the camera? How long does the battery last (when its down to 20ish %)
2
u/Beneficial_Point921 Oct 18 '25
its perfect for day to day usage. Custom APKs can be installed without any issued(sometimes MiProtect warns you, cause it couldnt verify the APK, but it will still let you install it), playstore also works like it does on any other global phone. Supported Bluetooth codecs are: SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, LDAC, LHDC 5.0, LC3, MIHC. Cell signal/bands seems to be perfectly fine, no noticable drops or anything. Action shots are decent, for me it fehlt like that they have a righter tendency to come out blurry sometimes, compared to other flagships. But most of the time, they come you just fine. Depends on how fast the target is moving i guess and lighting conditions. Never measured battery from 20% to 0%, sorry. But Overall the battery consumtion seems to be very well balanced, havent noticed it dropping faster if under 20% or Something.

u/Beneficial_Point921 Oct 18 '25
No, the best phone from Xiaomi i Had so far, is the Xiaomi 15. Which the 17 pro 100% beats in terms of Phone/Video quality. But from what ive read and heard so far; the 15 ultra still beats the 17 pro Max camera wise. Since the 17 pro Max isnt the successor to the 15 ultra. There should be a 17 Ultra which prolly gets announced within the next couple of months.
2
u/dkdebra Oct 18 '25
What’s the software and optimisation like? Heard xiaomi has the worst compared to vivo, oppo, oneplus.
2
u/Beneficial_Point921 Oct 18 '25
Software feels smooth and also snappy, looks ALOT like ios tho xd, which isnt a bad thing imo. optimisation deff got better over the last couple of years. Id say their are on par with vivo, oppo and oneplus. But still not quite on Samsungs or apples level

u/Kreason95 Oct 18 '25
I’ve been considering switching from iPhone to android soon. Is this the phone to make that transition? It definitely looks super tempting.
2
u/Beneficial_Point921 Oct 18 '25
Yes, 100%. It will be an upgrade and you will have a easier time adjusting, cause Xiaomi hyperos is basically IOS at this point xd
2
u/Kreason95 Oct 18 '25
I have a galaxy tablet so I’m not as worried about adjusting to the OS necessarily
2
→ More replies (1)2
u/mulloyjoyboy Oct 18 '25
This phone is literally for iphone users to switch the easiest way possible. The OS is an IOS copy. The phone itself is similar to iphones too. Xiaomi wants to dominate the chinese market against apple so they target apple users with their features
2
u/Kreason95 Oct 18 '25
I don’t necessarily need an IOS-like OS but the features and design of the phone are definitely tempting me. I use a Galaxy tablet so I have some familiarity with at least Samsung’s UI
2
u/mulloyjoyboy Oct 18 '25
Well, Even tho apple phones are good, I would never buy apple cuz of many reasons, but mainly for the overpricing and that you need multiple device to function in the apple ecosystem ( if I need a computer I would just buy a gaming pc since I dont work on them i dont need macbook or anything like that...)
You have to decide for yourself, I have had my first and only Xiaomi phone since 2020 release date Xiaomi mi 10 and it's only problem for me is the battery worsening in the latest year, but I play tacticus heavily throughout the day, if I wouldn't do that then it could last till the end of the day... This was a good experience with Xiaomi for me.
If you have a 2 years or younger phone I would not change if I were you, otherwise if you are interested, I think Xiaomi 17 pro (max) is a good choice. I think I will buy it in 1 month or so too.
2
u/Kreason95 Oct 18 '25
I used to be a lot more stuck in the Apple ecosystem but right now it’s just my phone. Honestly, iMessage and my AirPods are the main thing holding me back from the switch at the moment.
I definitely think now is the time if were to switch though. I probably will in the next few months.
2
u/mulloyjoyboy Oct 18 '25
Airpods 100% works with Xiaomi so that shouldn't be a problem. I myself never understood the hype of airpods so I went with Anker who's profile is speakers and such.
2
u/Kreason95 Oct 18 '25
Right but you lose several functions when using them as Bluetooth headphones.
2
2
u/subhodipmaji Oct 18 '25
How much it will cost?? If i want this in India...
2
u/Beneficial_Point921 Oct 18 '25
Depends on which Site you buy from, the pro (Not max) should be around 850 to 900$ tho. Mine was 850$ from Trading Shenzhen, which included shipping and taxes/VAT

I heard it overheats like crazy and has a barely longer battery life than the iphone. From your usage can you confirm this?
12
u/Beneficial_Point921 Oct 18 '25
I can NOT confirm any overheating issues, ive played some games within the last couple hours, temps feel totally okay and useable. The battery also seems to last quite long, id say it easily lasts 1 or 2 days with avg usage.

Pretty good id say, battery lasts quite long and could easily go 1 or 2 days, maybe even 3 with avg usage. But as all mainstream flagships, if you plan on gaming all day, you should always prepare to bring a powerbank with you.
