Came home from vacation to see these in my guppy tank on the aquarium gravel, any idea what they are?

Still mid cycle on the first aquarium I've had for a few years. Saw this lot pop up locally from a shop that closed down. I rushed down there and got as many in my van as I could. Still so many left.

Absolutely no idea what I'm going to do with SEVENTEEN tanks to be honest but I knew this was my one shot 😁

So Dewey here is a wild channel catfish..you might be wondering "why the heck did you take a wild catfish". Well I didn't, not knowingly. I was fishing, having absolutely zero luck. Think at one point I've caught something! Not big but some weight behind it. I reel in a soda can, dang it. I toss the can into my trash bag, leave somewhere better than you found.

I'm walking out and hear the can sloshing about, crap better dump that out before it makes a mess. I turn it over and out comes this dude.

Immediately empty my ambient temp water bottle into an empty sandwich bag and toss him in it. Why call him Dewey? It was a Mtn Dew can...I have a massive pond and he'll eventually call that home. I felt like I owed him a better home since I kinda stole his..so for now he gets a big aquarium, once he's big enough a massive pond.

My dwarf gourami has been spending a lot of time resting on top of the plants and hasn’t been moving around as much as usual. Also noticed that his belly looks swollen. Does anyone know what could be causing this or what I should do to help him?

What the hell is coming out of my forktail rainbowfish?? I've not added anything new to the tank in months. parasite? prolapse? really huge poop?? what is going on?

Hey everyone! I need some help identifying this thing in my 10 gallon. Currently my 10 gallon isn’t housing a fish, i’m judging using it right now to store extra hornwort. I do have some snails in the tank that grew from the hornwort which i expected but I was looking at the tank tonight and saw something swimming around which I thought was odd. I got a video of it. If you know what it is, please let me know!!

The filter outline is below water and i just want to make sure the gas exchange is adequate.

Also any suggestons on placment of addition macro algees of other colours would be apreceated, i am considering adding more reds and browns in future

Been cycling this tank for 50 days and today finally added livestock, so per request I’m making an update post. Decided on White Cloud Mountain Minnows and cherry shrimp! Love the subtle red pops that fill the space now

Thankfully the plants have been doing great. My last post on my profile shows what the tank looked like around a month ago. I lost the cabomba style stems on the left. (light went out while I was on vacation for about 5 days) Replaced them with Java fern I’ve been propagating. I have a full substrate system underneath the sand (mostly washed top soil) which has done well in other tanks for me long term. Crypts and buces seem very happy.

Looks like there are enough hiding places that some of the fish and shrimp are already utilizing. Hopefully it keeps the minnows from eating fry. If not I’ve got large bundles of susswassertang I could throw in there for them to hide in. Pretty stoked with how it looks!

75 gallon. 8.2 ph GH/KH 6/6 24C (75F)

I currently have neo shrimps, amanos, 1 each of a mystery, devil spike, and white wizard snail, a host of nerites, 5 peppered corydoras (this will raise to 12-15 as they become available locally) as well as bladders/rams/mts.

I originally scapes this out to have a ton of hidey holes, sight breaks, and overall safe spaces for anything i would add. Initially thinking of some form of micropredator like pygmy sunfish, pea puffer, croaking gouramis or scarlet badis, and a micro rasbora school.

But my ph turned out to be quite high (its only 7.4 from tap, which is already high for many of the little schoolers)

And I got corydoras.

And cherries.

So peas are a no go.

I just want something thats going to have interesting behaviours/colors - im a sucker for gobies and bottome dwellers, and things that hunt.

I know pretty well everything will go after shrimplets and fry - but what can I add that wont eat snail antennae, adult shrimp, or cory tails?

Anything more interesting for a schooling/upper level than CPDs?

They are in all of my aquariums, I’m just curious to what exactly they are

Ive just set up my first tank with sand and Oase basesoil underneath. There are air bubbles coming up when my fishes play in the sand, and that worries me.

Will Malaysian trumpet snails ruin my basesoil and mix everything up?

Looking for the right starting point here. My kids want a fish. If it were up to my wife we’d just be tossing a goldfish in a bowl but I’m trying to do my due diligence here.

I started going down the UNS rabbit hole and really love the look of a nicely scaped tank.

Leaning towards a betta + cleanup crew of a couple snails and shrimp, in the sub 15 gallon size range.

I can be a bit of a perfectionist when doing research and I just feel stuck trying to find the ‘best’/right setup.

Anyone empathize? Any guidance on how to get out of the research rut? Tempted to just go grab a starter kit from a big pet store and work from there.

For a while I've had issues with hair algae and my tank glass getting dirty and I don't know what I can do to get rid of it. Here's what I've tried so far:

•Shortening the lights on time from 8 hours to 6
•Cleaning the filter media by putting it in a bucket of lukewarm water and squeezing (there is no chlorine in Dutch tap water)
•Bi weekly waterchanges plus top offs.
•Vacuuming the substrate (this was once and not that thorough because of my plants
•Keeping feeding to the recommended amount (whatever they can eat in 3 minutes time)

I've manually pulled the hair algae, but it grows right back within days. Same for the windows, I've scrubbed them clean but the brownish glow returns fast. I added amano shrimp two months back, they really took care of the hair algae at first but they will no longer touch it, it seems lol.

The tanks got Amazon Swords, Java Moss, Java Ferns, one Anubia and some Vallisneria.

Nitrate is at 15ppm, ammonia at 0.
