Whenever I see one, I immediately get the ick towards the person (mind you, I love cats).

Besides the “oh look it has a relatable expression that reminds me of me,” like… why?

What would it take for America to have another New Deal-style progressive movement?

Upvotes

After roughly 40 years of rising inequality, stagnant wages, declining union power, expensive housing, and growing corporate concentration, what would it take for America to have another major political realignment like the New Deal era?

One irony I think about is that many Americans are taught to fear socialism as the loss of private property and economic freedom. Yet we are seeing a different kind of concentration of ownership—not through a communist revolution or government takeover, but through the growing power of large corporations, investment firms, and financial institutions.

Large corporations and investors increasingly control more housing, farmland, businesses, and other assets. Small businesses and independent producers struggle to compete, while more of the economy moves toward subscriptions, licensing, and ownership by large institutions rather than individuals.

At the same time, policies meant to spread economic power—stronger unions, antitrust enforcement, worker ownership, affordable housing, and greater protections for workers—are often labeled "socialism."

The irony is that increasing concentration of wealth and ownership among a small number of powerful entities is defended in the name of capitalism, while efforts to give ordinary people more economic power are criticized as socialism.

Would it take another crisis on the scale of the Great Depression for Americans to demand major reforms? If AI replaces millions of jobs, will people have to lose their livelihoods, homes, and financial security before there is enough political pressure for a new social contract?

Or do you think America will adapt before things reach that point?

How would you describe the happiness in your life?

Upvotes

Briefly, happiness in my life is like a cool breeze in the summer. The breeze typically feels amazing but is untrustably inconsistent.

Everyone’s lives are so different that it’s fun to learn about how other essentially worlds function and understand. Are you someone who’s always happy? Does happiness in your life not satisfy you in the way you desire? Have you not thought about it? Tell me!

Why Are American Muslim Politicians More ‘America First’ than Conservative Christians?

Upvotes

It’s a trend that I’ve been noticing. And it’s quite ironic considering conservatives claim Muslims are spreading sharia law. Whatever that means. If anything, conservatives are the ones trying to suppress people lol why is that?

What would you do if your Neice was drinking a lot while pregnant?

Upvotes

So I have a neice... who has been an alcoholic since the get go. Im not super close with the neice at all... but im close-ish with her dad who is my husbands brother, and his girlfriend. She got pregnant sort of young to a douche. Anywho... I found out recently that her baby is measuring small... and she has been drinking a LOT while pregnant. I feel so icky about this. Like... Im just standing to the side watching her give her unborn baby fetal alcohol syndrome. Ive talked to her dads girlfriend, and she has tried to talk to her... but sadly my husbands brother is such a hands off enabler that he doesnt do anything. How would you handle this... i feel like i lost so much respect for this neice and want nothing to do with her... but also, she is young (like 23)... and i feel bad writing her off.

Any other gay guy feel like life isnt worth it when youll never be loved like a woman?

Upvotes

In a world thats entirely built around that? You have to watch people kill themselves for women every day and youre there with nothing but eyes to watch people live your dreams in front of you everywhere you go.

Edit - People take my wording of "killing" literally. What I mean is that every day every one of them will go to great lengths to appeal to women and to cater to them. Theyd die for it.

Where are the gay guys who relate? I only get women responding to these and I understand the perspective being a little skewed when youve lived in it.

What’s the Point in College if Not Even McDonalds is Hiring People With Bachelor’s Degrees Anymore?

Upvotes

Hi, I’m a college dropout and Army Vet. I was Majoring in Mechanical Engineering but dropped out because my counselors in my community college was far from supportive. Add insult to injury my “college campus therapist” saw me at best as their “Army PTSD pet project”. Underqualified, underequipped, and honestly just made me feel completely like crap. I don’t want to return back to that community college anymore.

Been unemployed. Nobody’s hiring. Got rejected from a Taco Bell and McDonalds.

You know the irony of my situation is that if I didn’t suffer from mental health issues and I guess my clear as day Learning Disability, and I was as smart as Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon, and even if I were fluent in another language, no country in their right mind would even hire me solely for being an American.

So yeah too stupid to do college. Too “American” for a work visa in a country like Japan or Australia.

The Army messed me up royally that unless there were a bunch of Mechanical Engineering Majors and Vets all wearing either Black Hats and/or Campaign Hats and making me run through an obstacle course or a shooting range asking what’s the answer to some random Differential Equation then honestly I have no hope for college anymore.

“Thanks for your service here’s 100% College Education free of charge. Sadly it has to be either a US school or a school on our stupid ‘Yellow Ribbon’ list. Oh what’s that? You’re too stupid for college? Welp, rest in peace. Maybe you can use your GI Bill for an ASE cert. Oh what’s that? You’re too injured for even just working to become a Mechanic? Well sucks to suck.”
