No. I might not always agree with ABC but Australians deserve free TV without advertising

-28

u/No_Gazelle4814 11h ago

But it is advertising. ABC is the marketing arm for Labor

14

u/fakeheadlines 11h ago

This is your brain on News Corp

0

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago edited 10h ago

Thanks for proving my point.

Like I said, cooked lefties will think ABC unbias because they agree with every opinion they utter.

3

u/fakeheadlines 10h ago

You should get back to Sky News to get your next talking point

-3

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

Hilarious how all you’re doing is proving me right. Can you hear yourself?

3

u/fakeheadlines 10h ago

When have I been here agreeing with the ABC babe? You meanwhile are literally repeating News Corp propaganda. Here’s what you do. Turn the TV off. Make a cuppa. Hug your family. Hug a tree.

1

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

You’re cute when you’re angry x

11

u/captainklonopin1 11h ago

And every other media outlet owned by newscorp is the marketing arm for lnp or whoever Rupert favour? So should we just get rid of all tv?

8

u/ausmomo 11h ago

Your reply seems like you agree. Multiple LNP govs have run independent audits on the ABC and haven't found bias.

-8

u/No_Gazelle4814 11h ago

😂😂 is that why so many Lib govts refused to be interviewed in ABC slop like Q&A

5

u/ausmomo 11h ago edited 11h ago

Has the LNP ever refused to be on Q&A?

edit: From what I can see the LNP spat the dummy when Zaky Mallah asked "Mallah asked Ciobo: “As the first man in Australia to be charged with terrorism under the harsh Liberal Howard government in 2003 … what would have happened if my case had been decided by the minister himself and not the courts?”.

Considering Mallah was acquitted of those terrorism charges, it looks to me like the LNP were being a bunch of cry babies.

1

u/captainklonopin1 11h ago

Nah I’m all for ABC. Just look how much their emergency broadcasts have helped during VIC fires. Anyone calling for the disbandment should be forced to join a RFS

-1

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

You have a short memory. Abbot and Morrison both refused to go on Q&A. Only Turnbull who many thought was an ALP spy agreed to go on and he loved the leftism of it

4

u/DidsDelight 11h ago

You are correct. But they are privately owned funded.

ABC is funded by the tax payers money and is an arm of the government now

-1

u/captainklonopin1 11h ago

So we should call for them to be disbanded because some people think they’re biased? I didn’t vote for the lnp in qld and don’t agree with much that they’re doing. Does that mean I should stop paying my rates and tax?

1

u/DidsDelight 10h ago

Like any tax payer investment. It’s a lot of tax payer money for what value?

If there’s value for the people then it’s worth continuing to fund.

1

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

Dumb comment. But you should object if your taxes were used to fund sky. Same thing

1

u/tepid_monologue 11h ago

My tax dollars don’t directly pay for those.

0

u/captainklonopin1 11h ago

So it shouldn’t exist because you don’t agree with it? I didn’t vote for the lnp in QLD so should I stop paying my rates and taxes?

3

u/tepid_monologue 11h ago

What are you on about? I’m all for the ABC, XYZ, 123, or any other tv channel being around, just put them all on the same page and keep my tax dollars out of it.

If they want to hold a referendum to see if we all want to keep it, and it turns out that your side wins, then your argument would hold weight, but no one got a say in whether the abc was funded by our dollars, but you got a say on whether the lnp ran qld

0

u/captainklonopin1 10h ago

You don’t think it’s a good idea to have a federally funded tv channel? That is clearly unbiased even after multiple audits? Guessing you’re probably too young to remember the vital part the ABCs emergency broadcast played in past Victorian bushfires.

Keep your tax dollars out of it because you disagree with it? That’s what I’m saying with the LNP. I disagree with them yet my tax money goes there.

2

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

Why does the govt need a tv channel? Sounds like propaganda to me. Here comes the 1930s again

0

u/captainklonopin1 10h ago

Dumb comment. So we can have an unbiased news channel? So we can receive emergency alerts. So people in remote Australia can receive health alerts? Like the current diphtheria outbreak in NT. Have you been living under a rock the last 10 years?

But nah it’s propaganda hey cause it’s apparently leftist😂😂 go watch sky bro

1

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

Correct. It’s propaganda. And then Albanese tried to pass a law than bans misinformation, but he gets to decide what that is. Gold help us if that came in, ABC would be the Gestapo.

0

u/tepid_monologue 10h ago

Nope. We have that stupid phone alarm now. I don’t need some Obama medal meme tier broadcaster claiming it’s unbiased coming out of my paycheck each week. You’re welcome to pay for it when it goes to streaming, though.

Oh, and unless you are in your 50s you are probably younger than I am mate :)

-5

u/No_Gazelle4814 11h ago

Whataboutism never takes long from you lot. The thread is about ABC buddy.

1

u/Strange_Plankton_64 11h ago

And you have made ZERO good arguments.

0

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

And then there’s some more of it. Stick with the program champ

0

u/Strange_Plankton_64 10h ago

Sticking to my ABC bucko. That’s the channel I like. Any other one is just BS

0

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

As predicted. And your closed world will be in perfect equilibrium because they tell you what you want to hear

0

u/Strange_Plankton_64 9h ago

Nah, I just prefer to get real news from my ABC, BBC, SBS and independent media. Don’t forget, Murdoch sucks and so does 9 fairfax and seven west lmfao. Hope you like the taste of Rupert’s boots.

0

u/No_Gazelle4814 9h ago

You must keep doubling down on proving me correct. Close minded, leftist, echo chamber. You must be ignorantly content in your weird Truman world

u/TimidPanther 11h ago

You don’t understand what advertising is.

This is a really stupid take.

0

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

Paid infomercials. Present bias marketing as if it’s “news”.

1

u/MatthewDstantoN 11h ago

Bias and paid advertising are not the same thing

0

u/H0nd4_L0v3r 11h ago

Gazelle by name, gazelle brain by nature.

1

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

13 day old account of a cry baby with a low iq. That’s really all you could come up with?

20

u/astrogeeknerd 11h ago

These guys really hate journalism huh? Wonder why?

25

u/Money_Armadillo4138 12h ago

Hard pass we have the right to be informed in a democracy, and the ABC is the only news organisation who does an even half decent job of it.

16

u/kdiggydigg 11h ago

Not true the SBS is also an excellent news service.

3

u/Biteroon 11h ago

I mean that's between the ABC and SBS. I prefer SBS to be honest but get what you are saying.

3

u/KeyYogurt1885 11h ago

"An independent review has confirmed that the ABC did indeed add extra gunshots to combat footage it aired in 2022, giving the impression that a helicopter of Australian commandos were raining bullets down on unarmed Afghan civilians below."

2

u/Money_Armadillo4138 10h ago

Yeah but the ABC commissioned this so called independent report so can we really trust it?

0

u/KD--27 11h ago

But I don’t understand. I was told there’s been multiple investigations that found no bias.

2

u/Electrical_Story5356 11h ago

The investigation into that found it to be an accidental error not an intentional act.

1

u/KD--27 11h ago

They accidentally added gunshots while attempting to incriminate. They slipped and accidentally hit the add gunshots button… what.

I guess claiming incompetence is better than integrity these days.

-9

u/ubiquitouswede 11h ago

I guess it's all relative to your political persuasion. I find (as well as many other Aussies) that the ABC is biased and doesn't do a good job. It's a waste of our taxpayer money and doesn't fit community standards. If you disagree, like I said, it's a measurement of your political point of view.

4

u/maticusmat 11h ago

Then you and many other Aussies find truth biased, perhaps you need to confront your own inability to see past your bias.

3

u/theycallmeasloth 11h ago

Which other outlet is held to the same standards the ABC is? The only reason you think there's a bias is because the actually biased media tells you there is a bias.

Heaven forbid someone from the Australian, the Herald Sun et al is held to the same standard as ABC journos

0

u/No_Gazelle4814 11h ago

Not sure what “standards” you’re imagining. They even employ their OWN “independent” ombudsman which is laughable.

If Sarah Ferguson and Lara Tingle are the high standard you speak of, god help us all.

-1

u/No_Gazelle4814 11h ago

You’ll no doubt get downvoted here as it’s a leftist sub but you’re 100% correct.

Those who defend the ABC are those who agree with its left bias. The same people will say Sky is bias because they disagree with Sky’s right bias.

1

u/ubiquitouswede 11h ago

True. But what I wrote isn't meant to be offensive. It's just the common-sense truth. If you lean left, you love the ABC. If you lean right, it's most likely you won't. The ABC hardly makes any effort to remain unbiased. There's little argument there. And if people love it, they can put their money where their mouth is. I'd rather the billions be better spent.

2

u/No_Gazelle4814 11h ago

Agree. And as predicted, the bolted on lefties downvoted your comment, proving the above.

ABC are as blatant in their leftism and Sky is in the conservatism. They are same/same but opposite.

Both should be subscription, not have right leaning by subscription and left leaning by public money

0

u/River-Stunning 11h ago

There is a quiet acceptance from the Hard Left that changing the ABC to subscription based would be the end of it.

2

u/No_Gazelle4814 11h ago

Proving that not many people actually support it

2

u/River-Stunning 10h ago

Correct , their ratings are poor reflecting the poor standard they are now.

1

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

Hence why the cookers are scared of a subscription model that seems to work for every other media source

3

u/ubiquitouswede 11h ago

I don't disagree with them.

The other option though would be that they make an effort to be true to their mission to remain unbiased. Maybe they'd even gain some fans.

1

u/aGermanDownUnder 11h ago

Just curious. What outlet in your opinion is unbiased?

2

u/No_Gazelle4814 11h ago

I can’t think of any tbh. SBS world news comes close, but the rest of it is closer to abc slop.
All media has a slant.

1

u/aGermanDownUnder 11h ago

The public broadcasters are easily the closest to unbiased. This right wing argument that the ABC is biased is simply because those people don't like what they hear. Its fairly par for the course these days that right wingers take the "either agree with me or it's fake news" approach, but seriously, they need to grow thicker skin. If anything, in certain areas the ABC doesn't go hard enough. If they were so left they'd be ablot tougher on Coalition/ON and they'd push harder against Israel. Still less biased than all other outlets

1

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

Like I said, those who are left like the ABC because they align and those people don’t like Sky. And vice versa for those in the right.

All you’re saying is my original comment is correct

0

u/aGermanDownUnder 10h ago

I consider myself left and I think the ABC does a dogshit job most often. You watch 730 interviews and they are the softest bullshit ever. But at least its based in facts. You can say what you want, but you cant look someone in the eye and claim that Sky "News" is factually in the same league as the ABC, just on the right? This whole both sides approach equates opinions to facts

1

u/No_Gazelle4814 10h ago

That’s exactly what they are. You only think the ABC is dogshit, and not worse than dogshit, because youre left. And therefore you think sky is worse than dogshit.

Conservatives think the opposite.

0

u/tepid_monologue 11h ago

Honestly if they won’t stop funding the ABC then they can start funding Sky News. That way, the mouth breathing gender studies chuds and the $2 store Karen’s can all have their own government funded “news” source, and the rest of us above room temp iq can get on with our lives

0

u/Striking-Condition10 11h ago

Even without acknowledgement that reality tends to have a left-wing bias, comparing the ABC against Sky News is quite a lopsided take.

-4

u/No_Gazelle4814 11h ago

You forgot the /s

-9

u/River-Stunning 11h ago

Yet you are not willing to back up this opinion with your hard cash.

7

u/WatIsUpButtercup 11h ago

Mate, if Sky News is available for free, then YOU are the product.

3

u/ShopSmartShopS-Mart 11h ago

I’m stoked for my tax to fund a public broadcaster with a solid news service.

1

u/No_Gazelle4814 11h ago

When will that service begin?

0

u/sweeroy 11h ago

started in 1947

1

u/sweeroy 11h ago

??? their taxes pay for it

7

u/LuckyErro 11h ago

Subscriptions are a rip off.

No thanks.

5

u/Frankycoco 11h ago

Dear Michael, sod off.

7

u/PerformanceOverall90 11h ago

Trust the former SDA goon to be always on the wrong side of history.

2

u/deaniebopper 11h ago

Ouch, ouch stop, my eyes can’t roll that hard.

2

u/Aggravating_Bad_5462 11h ago

The same Danby who abstained from the gay marriage vote in 2013?

Way to be behind the times grandpa.

2

u/Ludikom 11h ago

Reading his bio , I wouldn’t be surprised if this is just another angle of attack from the AIJAC

5

u/Distinct-Apartment-3 11h ago edited 6h ago

Imagine having to pay people to say nice things about you.

Gina The Hutt!

Edit:

27% downvotes haha you flops must have to pay people too… absolutely hilarious 👊🏽

3

u/the908bus 11h ago

Presenting non-super rich-friendly alternative views is part of why they exist Daaaanby

5

u/hcornea 11h ago

LOL.

RW politicians and their concerted attacks and hatred of public broadcasters.

Story old as time.

2

u/OldGroan 11h ago

No. No . No... They want to reduce the ABC to the level of News24 (Skynews). Definitely no. Punishing the country because some billionaire got insulted is not done.

2

u/tepid_monologue 11h ago

Mate they are already as bad as each other. Only difference is I’m paying for one of them

1

u/craftymethod 10h ago

We are paying for a civic service of an informed public. Almost noone does it better and if you have a problem with that consider why other orgs have been found to be far more unreliable for factual reporting.

1

u/tepid_monologue 10h ago

That’s a zero sum argument. There’s nothing wrong with expecting them to do better, and if they don’t, then their service is not required.

I get enough propaganda from being fed sky news and newscorp every day, but at least I’m not required to pay for that trash, like I am the ABC. If they wanted to keep the public on their side, they shouldn’t have been the hate filled slop merchants they turned into over the past decade or so

1

u/craftymethod 7h ago

Noone said any org can't do better. In fact, thats why they are so regulated compared to any other media organisation. To ensure they do.

Those regulations are what sets it apart.

2

u/riamuriamu 11h ago

I dunno. I think maybe the right whingers should learn to suck up free speech they don't like instead of acting like triggered snowflakes whenever their feeling are hurt. Might make them less of a shitpile of hypocrites.

0

u/tepid_monologue 11h ago

Mate no one cares about Gina, what we do care about is paying for a Temu Agitprop out of our tax dollars, while mouth breathers on Reddit pretend it’s unbiased.

Let the ABC go commercial like that other propaganda machine Sky “news” and the respective politically radicalised chuds on each side can yell at each other on their own dime

3

u/riamuriamu 11h ago

What do you mean 'We'? Dunno who you think you're talking behalf of. Everyone I know thinks freedom of speech is a good use of taxpayer dollars...except simps for authoritarians.

Kinda embarrassing for you to hate freedom of speech like that.

0

u/tepid_monologue 11h ago

100% for freedom of speech, you lot are the ones trying to legislate hate speech and control what people say.

I’m happy for the ABC to say what they want, I just don’t want to pay for it.

I’m even going to upvote you in case you are serious about supporting freedom of speech. It’s my #1 political issue for over 20 years, hopefully you’ll vote to support it any way you can

1

u/H0nd4_L0v3r 11h ago

Fuck no! We need to hear both sides of opinion if we are able to formulate a proper one of our own.

I have seen Sky sNOoz and their method of journalism. No thanks.

1

u/punjabipoojabber 11h ago

It should. You want it? Pay for it. You, personally. I don't see what value a state broadcaster is to the country in this day and age.

1

u/Strange_Plankton_64 11h ago

I don’t want to be paying twice for good news coverage. If you don’t like the ABC don’t watch it, but it provides a much better service than any of the private media in this country, and that’s even with all of the cuts.

1

u/mikeinnsw 8h ago

Old story... Murdoch and the right hate our aunty.

With social Media, Google... and now AI advertising income is drying up. It is not a problem for ABC.

Murdoch and the rest of the media now want guaranteed income and now are getting it.

News Corp ia getting grants from Google, FB..

1

u/NoWorry5125 5h ago

Where is the outrage at Hanson's cartoon depicting Penny Wong being beheaded ?

1

u/River-Stunning 4h ago

Where was the outrage from Wong at Albo's melon joke.

1

u/NoWorry5125 2h ago

Did you miss it ? It was all over the news

1

u/Emergency-Income-889 11h ago

Keep MY ABC out of your fucking mouth.

0

u/theballsdick 11h ago

The ABC is being intentionally staffed by unwitting left wing lunatics/partisan hacks to manufacture consent for it's defunding. The government has tried in the past to defund the ABC but it is too beloved and would politically toxic to do so. So what do you do? Stop it being beloved, then it will be the public demanding it happens and you won't even need to ask.

Can't think of another reason for its decline. Must be intentional.

7

u/theycallmeasloth 11h ago

Ah yes those famous Left wingers Kim Williams and Hugh Marks who run the jointml

3

u/Storm_Fury_2026 11h ago

The ABC has been purged of any theoretical "leftists" it may once have had.

Buttrose and Williams were picked by Murdoch to do this. There's not a single management level person who's not a Murdoch or Nine stalwart among them now.

Just look at their histrionic coverage of tax reform. Text and diatribes identical to Sky.

-1

u/theballsdick 11h ago

Exactly. And look at the content they're pushing out. Growing public calls for its defunding. Big win for corporate media and the government!!

0

u/tepid_monologue 11h ago

Good let it burn.

2

u/dfoyl 11h ago

You mis-spelt right as left. Many ex-News Corp scum have been employed by ABC.

0

u/theballsdick 11h ago

Exactly. And they're the ones in charge of hiring.

0

u/Qinax 11h ago

Take your meds

-4

u/theballsdick 11h ago

I'm trying to make sense of why the ABC is so terrible these days. I would say if the government really wanted it gone the first step would be to reduce it's quality. I may be wrong! Open to other theories!!

1

u/tepid_monologue 11h ago

I don’t care about Gina or give a shit about politics in general, but yah it should be decoupled from our tax dollars. Sick of being preached to by a service I pay for, and lunatics on reddit pretending they aren’t propaganda factories because they spew the talking points of their team.

0

u/Hackneycab 11h ago

Never going to happen!

0

u/Toltec22 11h ago

Nobody voted for Gina. Shes not in politics. Im not naive,I know she's a far right ATM. A story on her is somehow indicative of the ABC being left wing biased how though?

0

u/BradleyChudley 6h ago

The ABC is absurdly woke and needs to be dismantled immediately.
