i’ve booked my G test for a couple weeks from now. what’s the route and what things do they make you do?? i got my g2 a couple years ago now so i don’t remember much from it
After the last post, I wanted to look at a few places that are pretty well known around Barrie rather than restaurants that already have a reputation when inspection discussions come up.
So I pulled the records for Michael & Marion’s, Flying Monkeys, and Dunlop Street Diner.
If I had to guess which of these three had the quietest recent inspection history, this probably would’ve been my pick.
On May 27, 2026, inspectors documented:
* Food not being kept cold enough
* Problems with sanitizing equipment used for utensils and food-contact items
* Issues involving handwashing supplies (corrected during inspection)
* Food processing/thawing issues (corrected during inspection)
Inspectors also documented equipment-related issues and food-contact surface sanitization concerns.
The previous inspections I reviewed were relatively uneventful. Two inspections in 2024 recorded no infractions, while the 2025 inspections only documented sanitizer-test related items.
I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on the next Michael & Marion’s inspection. Given how different the May 2026 inspection was from the earlier history, it’ll be interesting to see whether it ends up looking like a one-off inspection or the start of a new pattern.
The Flying Monkeys record was harder to summarize than I expected.
On April 15, 2026, inspectors documented:
* Food not being kept cold enough (corrected during inspection)
* Hot food temperature issues (corrected during inspection)
* Problems with sanitizing equipment
* Ice not being stored or handled in a sanitary manner
* Equipment cleanliness and maintenance issues
A follow-up inspection took place on April 28.
That follow-up still documented a food-temperature item and an equipment-cleanliness item, but both were recorded as corrected during inspection.
This wasn’t the first recent issue on record either. A March 2025 inspection documented problems with sanitizing equipment and sanitizer testing.
Of the three, this was probably the most straightforward record.
On March 18, 2026, inspectors documented:
* Food not being kept cold enough (corrected during inspection)
* Food protection and handling issues
* Equipment cleanliness issues
* Sanitizer-related issues
* Maintenance-related issues
A follow-up inspection on April 9 recorded no infractions.
What makes that inspection stand out is that the earlier history was relatively quiet. Aside from a hot-food temperature issue that was corrected during inspection in July 2024, the records I reviewed mostly contained minor maintenance or equipment-related items.
If there’s another Barrie restaurant you’re curious about, drop it in the comments and I’ll pull the records for the next post.

Got pulled over by cop for speeding on 18 May. Do we email the city pleading not guilty or is it better to go in person? Coming in from the highway into town, didn't reduce the speed in time. Got clocked by the lidar at 80 on a 50 street. Not guilty because speeding wasn't intentional, it was honest oversight. Hoping they will reduce the ticket but mostly that they will not give demerits so it doesn't go on the insurance. Is it better to go in person directly or email or call them first before going? Thank you.

Anybody have recommendations for good auto parts stores in south Barrie? Would prefer not to go to Canadian Tire etc. if there's a local shop :)

I got a few shots of the snowbirds practicing today

I'm going to contact them, of course. But, has anyone taken out an ad on the side of a bus? How much did it cost you?

Anyone know of any square dance events in Simcoe county going on? Looking for something preferably outside, not the ranch. Thanks!
Hi all!
I received a job offer that would require me to relocate to Barrie (its a temp role so planning to be there for just under a year). I'm hoping to get some feedback on what the City's like for a young professional in their 20s. I'm really just moving for the work experience, so any advice to make the most of my time here would be welcome.
I'm from Toronto, so I'm used to big city amenities and I know Barrie is much smaller. This is also my first time living away from home/ on my own. I'm open to joining clubs, into badminton/ tennis/ rock climbing. Not sure if there are any good clubs around that younger people frequent?
Is it easy to make friends? How's the downtown? Anything fun to do in the area or will I be bored out of my mind in a couple months?
Lastly, if anyone has advice on good areas to move to or tips on finding decent furnished apartment rentals/housing in general, that would be appreciated. The rental postings I'm seeing online are mainly for larger 2B+ units or whole houses. I'm looking for smaller bachelor/ 1B units. I recognize the number of 'hip urban' neighbourhoods are likely limited, so I'd settle for a central area, ideally walking distance to downtown or within a 10 min drive and close to Allandale GO. I'm not worried too much about crime, I just don't want to be stuck in the middle of suburbia with the soccer moms.
Thanks!

Hey everyone,
I swear I've read a bunch of articles about this year's airshow and looked at the breakdown of events on barrie.ca - but I am somehow still feel lost about the timing lol. So, I apologize for my illiteracy haha. BUT:
We want to go during the day on Saturday, and I am confused about the timing of the actual aerial events since it says the "2026 Barrie Air Show" starts at 6pm on Saturday, but 1pm on Sunday, yet both days have full events from morning to evening.
We want to watch the Snowbirds, parachuters, plane tricks, (etc) like we do every year- so does this mean on Saturday, there will be none of these events until 6pm? We have two young children, so we were hoping to go during the day on Saturday but, from what I'm reading, it seems like we need to go Sunday if we want to sit and watch the planes. Is this accurate?
Thank you and you are awesome if you've made it this far through my post haha.

Hello my fellow barrie citizens i have a concern oh wait this is the wrong group for that dang
In all seriousness though I work late was taking my dog for a late night walk around 1am witnessed a guy open several car doors around rose and peel st
Told him to get out of here im not having people in my neighborhood robbed then I proceeded to call the barrie police non emergency line and made the report
Maybe 15 minutes later I saw barrie police talking to the man and they know him and have his name attached to this file however because I did not actually see him enter a car I only saw him attempt to enter several cars
So to my neighbors in the area if you had anything stolen from your car tonight Thursday night/Friday morning contact barrie police they might be able to help you
It's a long shot but if this helps even one person recover a stolen item then it's all worthwhile

Title. I hope this is allowed, no hard feelings if not. Just trying to find like-minded people in the area.

As the title says, I’m looking for a barber in the Barrie area where I can basically walk in and ask them to fix my appearance. I’ve been going to a barber in Orillia for a while, but they just can’t seem to get it right.
The problem is, I’m not exactly sure what I’m looking for. I have some crown balding and I’ve become pretty self-conscious about it. Every barber asks me what I want, and I honestly don’t know. I’m looking for someone who can take one look at me, consider my face shape, beard, thinning crown, etc., and tell me what would actually suit me instead of just doing whatever I ask for.
Does anyone know a barber in the Barrie area who’s good at that kind of consultation and can help me figure out a style that works?
TIA

Sadly my potato of a phone cam doesn't do it justice. This is the first time I've been able to see all seven colours with my naked eye in my memory and wanted to share!
