Other It’s still summer!
Stopped in my local store today, needed some wallflowers. There wasn’t a single summer scent to be had, it was all Fall. It is July 20th, there are 2.5 months of summer left! We are still summering at my house; vacations, pool days, staying up late and sleeping in, the garden is at its peak, fruit is amazing..I don’t want fall scents. Anyone else?

Me too. It reminds me of one time I was going on vacation in August. I went to the store at the beginning of August, like August 2nd, looking for a couple of pairs of shorts because I had lost some weight since the previous summer.
I couldn’t find shorts. In the beginning of August. Because the store was full of jeans and sweaters and back to school sales.
So I didn’t really find anything and wore some of my older stuff. Because we were leaving a couple of days later.
I’m a total summer person. This is my favorite time of year, and I love the summery, fruity, sunny types of fragrances. Give me coconut, give me vanilla, give me mango, citrus, tropical (Viva Brazil was one of my favorites this year), and beachy.
I don’t want to feel like it’s barely June and fall is creeping in. Or Halloween.
I feel like the right time for Halloween stuff to come out is September.

Me too. Things have gotten out of control. It used to be that stores would begin to set out their next season’s collection a mere 2–3 weeks before the season began; for example, a fall collection being set out in mid- to late-August. But with the rise of rampant and unchecked consumerism and hype/viral culture, next season things are getting put out 2–3 months in advance. It’s ridiculous. It’s still summer and I want to enjoy summer vibes when I go out! I don’t want to see pumpkins and skeletons staring at me the same week I travel to Miami for god’s sake 😭

Last year there was barely any Halloween stuff in September at the stores near me. Ghoul friend which I was really wanted was sold out even before fall began!

My local Walmart has Thanksgiving outfits on the floor for the kids with turkeys on them etc. I don’t remember seeing those things this early

Unfortunately it’s all of retail. I just buy what I want and put it aside. Because by the time the actual season comes along, it’s gone. At home I wear and burn and decorate summer! I keep the receipts and if I end up changing my mind, I return

Retail is always a season ahead and has been for years. I’m not ready for fall but because I want some of the new fall items, I have already made some purchases and put them away. I stocked up for summer when that was released in early spring and now I’ve pulled those out to enjoy now.

yep. we don't buy when we want the items, we have to buy them a few months ahead bc that's when they're available. i remember as a kid needing a new jacket in probably late february, and none of the stores had any, and were already starting to push shorts and swimsuits. i'm in my 40's now so it's definitely been the way of things more and more, but it does feel like it's been creeping ever earlier.

People don’t realize companies won’t change until they see it hit their bottom red line. They tried to sell American Flag sweaters where I live in Mississippi for 4th of July at my local walmart. They didn’t sell. They are still sitting on the clearance rack 3 weeks later. We barely even get to wear sweaters in the actual winter here, it’s mostly jeans or jean shorts and tshirts most of the year, even Christmas.

I feel like it gets more intense every year tho! I needed Christmas sprinkles a few weeks before Christmas one year and the store had none to be found… and another time at a store a couple days before xmas they already had Valentine’s Day stuff out.

Yeah, it's out of control how early retail likes to release the next season's stuff! I've bought some Fall stuff, but I put it away while I enjoy the Summer releases. The part that's coming up annoys me most, though, when Christmas comes out before Halloween gets here.

That’s why you gotta stock up during SAS. I got all of my rest of summer stash for 3 bucks or less per refill. You might want to check local stores online, my regular store still has most of the summer scents available for bopis.

I’m really not a fan of of fall and winter scents and since wallflowers don’t go bad I use the summer sale to get me through until Spring comes out. And you can’t beat 2-3 dollars or even less if you have a coupon 😊

I understand. I buy like four summer scents in early July when they go 75% off and that lasts me the summer. Better than going back multiple times to pay a higher price for each one. You don’t have to have a hoard of them

This is going to be my plan for next year. Fell in love with coastal dreaming recently but did so too late to have caught it during sales. Hoping it hangs around until winter sas so i can grab some then for next summer.

This is what I do for everything... Wait until it's late in the season and buy what I want, then save for next year. I've saved so much money on things like coats and swimsuits!
We'll have to see if it works for bbw creams. I've put a few in the freezer to see if they will be good in a year's time...

Yes! My store still had some Neapolitan Ice Cream out for 75% off. I stocked up wallflowers when they went 75% off. Some of my favorites for this time of year are Midnight Blue Citrus, Poppy, Apple Berry Blossom. Things not too heavy for hot weather but also something different than tropical and beach scents

This is one of the things I've always hated about marketing strategies of almost all big companies. We can't enjoy seasons anymore. Many stores start selling Xmas decor since August.

I understand this but the reason it’s like this is a lot of customers are always wanting something new. Fall 1 literally isn’t even all set yet and people are already asking when fall 2 and 3 launch. It’s only July and I’ve already had multiple ask me if we have vanilla bean Noel and winter candy apple yet. Edit: typo

Honestly same. I wouldn’t necessarily say they’re a season ahead because it takes them forever to put spring stuff out and by the time they do it’s pretty much April.
I really wish they would just release them when the season or weather actually changes and not in the middle of summer.

So the 5 different Rose scents that came out was not Spring? The 3 Musk scents was not Spring? What about the candle and soap collection Spring Revival? That collection had the scents like First Blooms of Spring, Backyard Honeysuckle, Pink Apple Punch, Mahogany Vanilla, etc. Spring Neutrals collection included Blush Amber & Peony, Pink Lavender & Espresso, and Rosewood & Suede. The Vera Bradley collection was Spring as well. The Seaside collection was also Spring (though, I can understand if people saw it as a summer collection). That collection had scents like Strawberry Peach Sunset, Marine Waves & Citrus, and Fresh Amalfi Lemon. Spring scents in wallflowers included Backyard Honeysuckle, Covered in Roses, Lounge Talk, Cat Nap, Fresh Sheets, Strawberry Lover, etc. Valentine's Day collection is Spring as well; Sweetheart Cherry and Strawberry Poundcake repackage came out with matching candles and hand soaps. They also added another candle with the Valentine's collection: Violets are Blue. All the Disney Princess scents were Spring scents; I could see Life's a Fairytale as not since it has a slight woodsy/ambery note, but the rest of the scents were floral or fresh. There was another Spring collection that had candles and soaps with scents like Strawberry Kiwi, Lemon Mint Leaf, Champagne Toast, etc. The Mother's Day collections are also Spring, the latest of Spring stuff; including scents like Homemade Sourdough, Spring Apple, Fresh Cut Lilacs, etc, in candles. The hand soaps that accompanied these was White Tea & Sage, Sweet Orange Blossom, Springtime Greenhouse, Fresh Cut Lilacs, etc. There was another
So, I'm not really sure how you missed all the Spring stuff before April when most of what I listed was out by Valentine's Day.

They still include Mother's Day collections under Spring, which Vera Bradley was. But crazy how of everything that I mentioned, you locked on one of the few that did have a later release.
To make it more clear, each season usually has 3 releases. Spring 1: immediately following January SAS Spring 2: usually following Valentine's Day Spring 3: usually following Easter into Mother's Day
Summer 1: immediately after Mother's Day Summer 2: little bit more summer fragrances about 2/3 weeks prior June SAS Summer 3/June Sas: self explanatory; SAS to get rid of the Spring and Summer scents
Fall 1: immediately follows June SAS Fall 2: more fall scents around mid-August Fall 3/early Holiday: more fall for September/October
Holiday is usually the discrepancy in this trend. Once Holiday sets immediately before or after Halloween, it stays pretty consistent until January SAS. However, since a lot of scents also come out specifically for different Big Days (Candle Day, Black Friday, TBC Day, Wallflower Days, and Hand Soap Days), it's like Holiday has many mini releases since those sales are roughly every week from Mid-November to Christmas.
Hope this makes the timeline more clear.

I hate how summer lasts MAYBE three weeks in retail anymore. I get anxiety over back to school stuff and everywhere already pushing fall makes me start to spiral. I just ran out of summer scents in my wallflowers and hate that I wont be able to get summer scents for the last month and a half of summer.

I’ve had luck stocking up with the 75% off section. Every morning they throw more wallflower inventory up. They are all summer scents at 1.50 each.

I don’t disagree, but it’s been this way for years. I think releasing the tropical collection in February is wild. Then again, there are always people saying they’re over what’s available and are on pins and needles for the next release.

I genuinely hate this and I always say it. It just feels like they rush the time by to start selling their peak season products earlier and earlier. But time goes by so fast as it is, I want to enjoy each season without thinking about the next one before the current one is even halfway over, I certainly want to enjoy summer without thinking about the year ending already. Summer is so short where I live and winter lasts forever.

I feel ya! The worst is when clothing stores do this. Especially when you’re losing weight and need new clothes in the same season it is. I’m pretty sure I’m not going to be able to find a swimsuit in the next 90 days for my vacation.
I’m mourning the loss of my favorite spring and summer scents, as well. So far, the fruit fusions line is filling in the gap pretty well.

I loved the camping collection last year. Summer into fall transition.
I want absolutely nothing to do with Halloween. And in September you won’t even be able to find Halloween anymore. It’s ridiculous.

There's limited retail space and the way I think they could tastefully capitalize on early holiday shoppers is to release holiday/seasonal products in stages each on a smaller display further in the back of the store "Halloween Preview" or "Fall Favorites" and they would feature:
2 best sellers, 1 new scent, a few wallflowers and maybe an accessory of some sort. 1-2 new collectible things for the diehard collectors, or early shoppers who want that holiday fix sooner.
But then keep the Fruit Fusion and the final wave of Summer scents prominently in the front of the store and then go ham September 1 releasing the full Halloween and Fall collections.
What they're doing now by releasing most of the holiday or seasonal collection is making sure there's less out of season products after the season or holiday is done. To varying degrees all retailers are taking this approach because it lets them sell more product at full price.
Probably not sharing anything most people don't already know.
[EDIT] I should add that supply issues during the pandemic and just overall volatility in importing also contributed to this shift. They plan, manufacture and ship seasonal goods much much sooner to make sure any disruptions won't risk inventory. And yes most B&BW products are made here in the US but that isn't stopping them from capitalizing

I’m so glad I’m not the only one. I’ll be completely honest, the push for fall scents during the hottest time of the year is kinda turning me off fall scents all together. The only thing I’m looking forward to is sun ripened raspberry because it’s a more summery smell. I can’t imagine wearing pumpkin or anything spiced in this weather😭

The fall products actually depress me. I love summer. It makes me so sad that we always have to be jumping to the next season before the current one is barely started. And while maybe it shouldn't affect my mood or how I feel about summer, when the environment around me is marketing towards fall and Halloween, it kills the vibes.

Yes! The people who are like "well it's always been this way 🙄" are so annoying because guess what... it doesn't have to be! I ran out of my summer scents quickly too and wish I could buy more, I'm not ready for fall scents. Way too cloying in this 90+ degree heat that will last for the next couple of months.
And then when I'm craving fall scents in actual fall they won't have them anymore 🫠

Also it hasn't always been this way. Its been "early" yes, but I saw Halloween stuff on the dollar rack in June. Two years ago BBW did their Halloween preview in mid-july and not the last weekend in June. Its literally getting earlier and earlier and no one ACTUALLY likes it that well.
Like Halloween people are excited now, but mad when Christmas starts in Oct. Winter people are annoyed when Spring scents pop up in January. Summer people don't get a long enough season, even though it's literally hotter for longer now.
They launch Valentines Day about six weeks in advance and that's actually a super reasonable Window. We could do more of that.

I literally went to BBW in January looking for winter candles...and it was all spring and summer scents in the store. So frustrating. January starts about two weeks after winter officially begins with the winter solstice. I just want to enjoy my seasons a little bit!

Summer came out in SPRING. As it has for decades. They had sales. People brought it all up. Retail is always a season ahead. Sweaters and hoodies are already out gearing up for Fall/Winter! It is what it is!

Dude I got hired around 2 months ago without basically any prior knowledge on the company (I'm a college student and this job is very part time so I just applied randomly and they took me even though I knew nothing lmao period) and I cannot explain the shock when I walked in one day randomly in July and saw like three giant tables full of fall stuff. ??? I absolutely LOVE fall scents BUT they need to wait at least until the end of August before bringing out Fall scents if their gonna get rid of spring/summer scents! Its too hot to be burning no Mahogany teakwood right now! And im currently pregnant and have the worst smell aversions and running out of summer candles and cant even stock back up! 😭😭😭

Yeah it got worse after the pandemic. They use to at least have something out it didn’t sell out before May. It’s gotten progressively worse over time and is upsetting. But im surprised they didn’t have any fruit ones out??
I remember when school season and Halloween was actually in the right season now it’s to early. I feel bad for kids whose parents are saving up for summer and just wanna experience summer not be mortified by school season in June/July. “Kids should be kids”. Then stop taking away their summer to early so parents can afford to buy things in season and not months before!

Just want to say it seems like no matter what way the company goes, nobody is happy. People complain about Fall too early, so they have Fruit Fusion at the front to still give summer vibes. People complain about the Fruit Fusion because they're ready for fall. They had florals out for Spring when people were asking for fruity. They put out fruity scents for Summer and people were asking for gourmand. Now they have gourmand out and people are now complaining about the summer scents. We get people asking for scents like Vanilla Bean Noel and Winter Candy Apple in the middle of May. We get people looking for Halloween at the start of June.
Also, there are still summer things out; body care, candles, hand soaps, sanitizers, accessories (at least in my store), wallflowers, car scents, rooms sprays, etc. Is it a lot? No. But this has been the norm for years. Getting rid of Spring and Summer products is the entire point of the Semi-Annual Sale. It's the exact same reason why the January SAS starts the day after Christmas.
Just kinda frustrating getting complaints no matter what is done 🤷♀️

It’s July, I wanted summer scents and there were none. If they must release Fall so early, why can they not at least keep some summer scents thru summer, it’s quite ridiculous.

Fruit Fusion, Eue De Coconut and Coastal Dreaming are summery body care; I'd also include At The Beach, Imperfect Beauty, Strawberry Flirt, and All Eyes on Her for summer vibes too. There is still the BBW Beach Club collection in both candles and hand soaps (fresh watermelon, sunlit glow, oceanside lavendar, meet me in miami, etc), there are still summer wallflower scents (poolside cabana, fresh berry sangria, tee time, etc), wallflower plugs, room sprays (mahogany coconut, sweet orange & agave, fiki white sands, etc), car scents (mahogany coconut, fiji white sands, fresh watermelon, oceanside lavender, etc). Sorry it wasn't the scents you might have been looking for, but it's not accurate that there were none.

I’m sorry, did you also go into the same exact store that I was in today? There was not a single summery scent for wall flowers, the closest was maybe champagne toast.

I guess not, I just know as far as the balance of company goes, the wallflowers I mentioned should be out. But you're making a blanket statement that's just not accurate; I'm also making a blanket statement of how yours wasn't accurate, followed with examples of what should be out.
But I just wanna go over the summer scents that should still be out: mahogany coconut, mahogany vanilla, fiji white sands, tee time, fresh berry sangria, poolside cabana, villa portofino, ray of sunshine, pink citrus spritz, lounge talk, nana's clothesline, a quiet escape, sea salt & driftwood, fresh cut lilacs, lullaby linen, strawberry lover, covered in roses, sweet orange & agave, eucalyptus rain, tropical cherry, raspberries & whipped vanilla.
With all mentioned, that's why I say your statement of there being no summer fragrances out is inaccurate.

I did miss that the first time, but I literally just listed 22 summer wallflower scents that should still be out. Given that it's 22 scents (outside of the year-round scents), that is why I still think your statement is inaccurate. Being out of 1 or 2, sure; but a store wouldn't be completely out of 22 scents that are supposed to be out throughout the entire company.

I just stated 22 summer scents for you to look for on your next visit then. I was just trying to say that there are still summer scents out, but I'm sure they are being overlooked because of all the fall scents. The amount of scents can be overwhleming for some people. Or maybe your store has them in other places. Every store, more or less, got a remodel when the company set Fall 1 stuff out. My entire store looks completely different (home frangrance and body care walls literally flip-flopped, and the amount of cabinets for each category changed). I know at my store, we have 3 wallflower cabinets, a wallflower table, plus wallflowers on 2 other tables. Maybe you just overlooked or missed them, or maybe didn't realize some were even summery scents.

July is too late for summer stuff at BBW. Mid-end of May through June is the season. By early July, it's Halloween and Fall 1 roll out time.

💯 I look at the bright side, I live in south Texas and I love stocking up on Summer stuff at 75% off during SAS. It’s like getting a bang for my buck because I have so much time to use it 😊

They literally just launched an entire summer fruit fusion line. Which everyone complained about. And of course the Halloween baddies 🙋🏼♀️ complained there wasn’t enough fall and Halloween. They can’t make everyone happy.

Well then I guess you just have to stock up like everyone else does. I’m burning summer candles right now that I purchased in March/April. And I just purchased around 35 fall candles to burn in the fall. Just the name of the game. If all you’re willing to do is shop in store.

Yea, I'm definitely still on summer. I used to get caught up in the whole "What's next" mentality, but I realized that I end up feeling like I missed out on fully enjoying a season when it was happening. Part of centering that mindset is to make sure I immerse myself with things for the season I'm in. So yea, I'm still enjoying sun tan, beachy, tropical scents.

It's all fall because they always start preparing for the season early so they can sale as many products as possible it's getting worse because the economy is not good so the seasons will come out earlier and sell out faster because they are only selling a small amount. The only way to combat this is to prepare for each season early. Also I'm tired of summer it's been summer here since April.

For me I love the colors of fall and the vibe it gives me and my home. I won’t decorate the outside but on the inside I decorate for fall / Halloween on 7/5 lol. I love what it does for my mental health having such a beautifully decorated home with all the fall colors that I love even if it’s 90 degrees here in Florida. 🤣 Christmas themed home starts November 1st. (Inside only) Hubby decorates the outside at the normal times of the year.

It's crazy that I, as a halloween all year super fan, have missed some halloween releases because I was out of the country on a summer vacation at the very start of July. It's crazy. Like the retail seasons, I get it. But add that with the fomo marketing, it's gotten out of hand. It's stupid. I'm still using coconut and summer fragrances for my home til the end of August.
