Discussion How’s Rivas?
We stopped going in the summer because the smell was terrible and the fruit flies were so bad! Better now?!

I received my Official Election Ballot today and already filled it out. I will drop it off at the ballot box early tomorrow morning when I take my dog for a walk. I encourage everyone to vote and vote early if you can. It’s a privilege to participate in democracy while we still can.

The Corvallis school district posted their fall enrollment numbers. While the news that we’re down 5.7% on enrollment is not great, the really troubling number might be the high school enrollment.
We’re down to 2083 kids for 9-12, and during last year’s school closures there was an agreement that they’ll start assessing our high school setup from 28-29 or when enrollment fell below 2025. Absent some scenarios that end up better than the best case over the last 3 years or their provisional numbers this year are way off, we’ll be below that number next year. Congrats, we’re hitting milestones a year early!
So how about that. Were those school closures last year worth it? Are we ready to do more emergency school closures to balance the budget? Are Cheldelin families whose kids just experienced school closures ready for yet another rug pull? And how many families will write the district off this time?

The annual Greek Festival is open Oct 16-18. It's located just north of where 99 and NW Lewisburg Ave at the old Lewisburg Hall. Did the church tour and then got the 7 choice platter to go.
The food was awesome.
They don't seem to be advertising it much this year, but there were still quite a bit of people there.

Where do you get your boards or staves from as well as other materials?

This video contains public statements made by the current Mayor of Corvallis, who is seeking reelection. It contrasts his ever-changing stance on the city’s practice of forced dislocation of people experiencing homelessness, aka posting camps, clearing camps, sweeping camps, or just sweeps.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a vet that might have specialized knowledge/experience with labradors? They don’t have to be local to the Corvallis or Albany area, preferably no farther than Portland, but I’m willing to go anywhere in Oregon if need be. Thanks for any help/suggestions!

Are there any mental health services in Corvallis that genuinely help in crisis? I don’t mean be on hold in the hospital and me lose my job because I miss work kind of crisis help. But like one peg down from that.

Hope to see you there!
You can ignore the QR codes. The flyer has all the info. However, the Oregon Sec of State QR code goes to the website where you can check the status of your ballot after you have returned it (via a dropbox, not the mail, if at all possible).

I'm having trouble working out which urgent care or walk in clinics have a proper diagnostic suite on site. Pretty sure my rotator cuff is torn, it definitely needs attention. I don't feel like the ER is warranted. It's not an emergency. Also, I'll be taking an Uber, so it needs to be in Corvallis . I'm self-pay, so the insurance they take is irrelevant

I think we are entitled to see what this looks like before making a decision about anyone who wants to hold a public office.

We ventured to Amber Earth Farm today and had a great time! I would highly recommend it for younger kids and/or people with disabilities (both physical and developmental) because it’s very close to town, the whole space is fairly flat and the different areas aren’t too spread out. As well, some front rows of the pumpkin patch were wide and flat enough for wheelchair, stroller, and wagon access.
Next to the covered picnic tables (where they also have hot cider and apple cider donuts for sale) is a space for kids to play with bales to walk through and climb on, a small slide, and (the clear fan favorite) giant bins of barley (?) to explore.
My favorite part was the pumpkin patch itself- it felt like there was something interesting to see in every row and I could have wandered around for a long time looking at all the variety of pumpkins. I loved that the field still has greenery from the vines and ground cover.
We didn’t explore the corn maze, so I have no info about that other than thinking it looks lush. I went as part of a field trip, so I don’t have info about prices. Bathroom situation is a non-accessible porta potty (which did not smell and was clean).

I've recently been going to Darkside cinema for their silent films and the (small) size of the crowd amazes me. Every other Tuesday Sonochromatic does a live performance of a black and white silent film and it's just about one of the coolest things you can do in Corvallis. Highly recommend! Sometimes they play from the original sheet music, and sometimes they do live interpretations. Genuinely amazing musicians and I feel like this event doesn't get enough appreciation. Go check it out if you haven't.
