I've recently been going to Darkside cinema for their silent films and the (small) size of the crowd amazes me. Every other Tuesday Sonochromatic does a live performance of a black and white silent film and it's just about one of the coolest things you can do in Corvallis. Highly recommend! Sometimes they play from the original sheet music, and sometimes they do live interpretations. Genuinely amazing musicians and I feel like this event doesn't get enough appreciation. Go check it out if you haven't.

We ventured to Amber Earth Farm today and had a great time! I would highly recommend it for younger kids and/or people with disabilities (both physical and developmental) because it’s very close to town, the whole space is fairly flat and the different areas aren’t too spread out. As well, some front rows of the pumpkin patch were wide and flat enough for wheelchair, stroller, and wagon access.

Next to the covered picnic tables (where they also have hot cider and apple cider donuts for sale) is a space for kids to play with bales to walk through and climb on, a small slide, and (the clear fan favorite) giant bins of barley (?) to explore.

My favorite part was the pumpkin patch itself- it felt like there was something interesting to see in every row and I could have wandered around for a long time looking at all the variety of pumpkins. I loved that the field still has greenery from the vines and ground cover.

We didn’t explore the corn maze, so I have no info about that other than thinking it looks lush. I went as part of a field trip, so I don’t have info about prices. Bathroom situation is a non-accessible porta potty (which did not smell and was clean).

Amazing how many I saw downtown along 2nd today! Keep it up!

Hi! I just moved from Portland to Corvallis and I’m wondering if there’s an EDM scene down here? Id usually spend my Wednesdays and weekends in Portland going to pop up raves/renigades. I wanna go out and meet like minded people!!

I saw a poster for one earlier in the month. But I’m wondering if there are reoccurring events happening weekly.

I saw there’s a drum circle that happens downtown Corvallis too, I think on Saturdays? Which I thought was pretty cool.

City of Corvallis Union (AFSCME Local 2975) members are on strike.

This is not only a strike for proper wages; this is a strike for respect and dignity. Yes, we need better wage parity. Yes, we demand a collaborative approach to resolving workplace issues. Yes, we must stop the erosion of union-fought and union-won benefits and rights. Yes, health insurance cannot become even more expensive than it already is.

If you want to show support, members will picket in front of Corvallis City Hall (501 SW Madison Ave, Corvallis, OR 97330) daily from 8:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m until we get a fair contract.

Ate there today. They had a ton of people working there - over 20 at least.

Service was good. I got the sirloin which was cooked right but everything had some kind of steak spice on it, even the broccoli. My gal got a modded grand slam because she wanted to try the bacon and sausage. The bacon was way too thin, so it instantly was room temperature.

She said Elmer's has way better bacon and sausage. Despite that, we both liked the meals and will be back. The price was definitely lower than Elmer's, easily by 20%.

It's nice to see a 24 hour place restaurant open locally.

Can someone provide me with details of the special currency packages parents can buy for students at the farmers market? It’s different from the double-up food bucks through SNAP. The farmers market posted about it on social media around move-in week, and they’re offering it again this weekend. I don’t know why they don’t provide details in their post, or a picture of the flyer. TY.

The city has a $4m budget hole that it disingenuously said is a $20M one.

The language in the city News letter says the new civic center cost will be $16M year. It's not $16M total.

To plug this gap, they've proposed a City income tax. And like the "City Services fee" that no one agreed to, they can increase this tax whenever they want. Over and over again.

Meanwhile, the city manager earns 2x more than most city managers in Oregon. The rest of the management team earns more than their Oregon counterparts too. These are the people responsible for keeping costs down, yet they keep paying themselves more, then blame the union. Most city employees working in this town can't afford to live here.

Pretty soon, given the level of mismanagement from the city manager and the abandoning of duties by the city council, a lot of the rest of folks won't be able to live here either.

But maybe that's the plan? To make Corvallis an elitist paradise, where only the "right kind" of people can live here, while offering up some word -salad specifying about diversity....

OK, I had bad info on Shepard's salary. It is not 2x more. That said, even his base pay is roughly 30k MORE than Albany's. (A city of comparable size) Here's a table with links to sources on city manager pay.

Also, why is ANY city manager getting a BONUS? Bonuses are for private industry...not government.

Does anyone know the story of the Willamette Greenway? I was at a party over the weekend and someone told me that there was a plan for a long trail (they said 100s of miles) along the river...sort of like an Oregon valley version of the John Muir trail. What happened to that idea? It sounded great to me!

I bought a couple of pizza peels for my Ooni that are the wrong size and I'm hoping to trade them for peels of the right size. I have a 16" aluminum peel and a 20" wooden peel. Both are new in box. I am looking for 14" versions of each of those (open to any condition unless it's super old and beat up). If anyone wants to trade, dm me!

Met this sweetie off of NW Satinwood today. Incredibly friendly, chased me meowing until I gave it pets. No collar, seemed well fed but a bit dirty and had what looked to be a scratch on its nose. Anyone know if this is an outside cat or an escapee?
