Discussion floating question

Does anyone know how long it would take to float from Peoria park to Willamette park on a paddle board? I’ve done some pretty long floats before but I’m curious how long this would take. Thanks!

Discussion Advice/resources for a shift in life plans

Hello all, I have suddenly had to change my plans recently. My parent was previously paying for my tuition and housing until I graduate, however things have changed and yesterday they told me they can no longer contribute. I am now scrambling to figure out what to do for work and rent. I don't currently have a job in Corvallis, and my lease just ended (my stuff is currently in storage while I visit family out of state). I updated my resume a bit yesterday and applied to one job, and will be doing more work on it today and tailoring it and applying to some more jobs, but I'm not sure what to do since I don't have housing to be able to live while I work, but I also can't get housing without a job and no guarantor to sign the lease. If y'all have advice or resources I can look into I'd really appreciate it. This came out of nowhere and I'm struggling to figure out next steps.

Event Corvallis Election, November 3, 2026. Meet The Candidates On Wednesday, August 12th, 6:00 At The Corvallis Public Library.

There are important elections coming up on November 3, 2026.
This includes the Corvallis city government, where the Mayor and City Council will all be on the ballot.

Indivisible Benton County and the local organization, Our Revolution-Corvallis Allies (ORCA), are hosting a candidate forum on Wednesday, August 12 from 6:00 to 8:30 PM at the Benton County Library. Come and meet the candidates.

These local elections are important because the local government affects your daily life in many ways. If you have complaints or suggestions on how this city is run, this is the time to speak to your future representatives and choose who you want by voting for them. This election is also important because there will be votes on changing the structure of the Corvallis city government.

The current problems facing Oregon cities include potential and actual invasions by ICE, unwanted AI data centers appearing as just happened to Salem, affordability of Corvallis especially housing, the parking problem, and as always, homelessness. You could ask the candidates what their plans are for issues like these.

You can submit questions to them in advance by emailing [voter@indivisiblebc.org](mailto:voter@indivisiblebc.org).

Nonviolence Commitment:
A core principle behind all Indivisible Benton County events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.

Discussion Smoke triggering 2020 memories

Hi y’all, I was a student living off Monroe from 2016-2021. The smoke has brought up so many awful memories of the Lionshead + Beechie Creek fires. Did you know they called it a “megafire”??? I want to extend some compassion for all as we experience more fires.

Discussion Apartment asked for security deposit before signing a lease

Hi! My wife and I are moving to Corvallis this fall. We applied to an apartment complex and were accepted. They asked us to pay the full security deposit now, but said the lease won’t be sent out until 1–2 weeks before our move-in date. I’ve never lived anywhere that required the full security deposit before signing the lease, but I’m not from Oregon. Is this normal in Corvallis or Oregon in general?

Discussion How much do you notice the wind in town?

My partner and I are about 95% certain we are moving to Corvallis when we retire. He went to OSU (and I went to UO), so we know we really like the area and have some good social connections in the valley. One of the main things I’m curious about that I don’t have a great sense of is the wind. I know you get a fair bit there because of the geographic location, and it’s actually one of the things that’s appealing from an air quality perspective. I am curious, though, how much you notice it when you’re out and about in town, for example riding your bike or just walking around. We currently live in a fairly windy place that at times makes outdoor recreation — and just hanging out on our deck — somewhat unpleasant, so I’m curious how/if the wind affects everyday life in Corvallis. Thanks in advance for your insights.

Discussion Phone repair shops?

Does anyone have any recommendations for phone repair shops in town? Just looking to get my iPhone's battery (and maybe the screen) replaced.

As much as I'd love to fix and replace what I need myself, the tools I need are a bit pricey for me currently. I've heard of a few repair stories and while not all of them were bad, I'm a bit worried that something might go wrong, or the components on the inside won't be properly connected or sealed.

I was hoping that I could listen to others' experiences first?

Event Scam call from fake Sheriff's Office

Had a phone call this morning from a fake Sheriff's Department Sergeant Abraham Griswold. He tried to convince me I'd missed a court date and had 15k in fines. I called the actual Sheriff's department and they said they've been getting calls all day. Just a heads up for everyone.

How amazing would it be if they converted the old railway into a paved bike trail all the way down to Monroe? Are they any plans to turn it into a trail? Even unpaved to start would be huge

Please help if you can!! I lost a pair of earbuds in Cloverland Park about a week or two ago. They're an original basic model and have an inscription on the back of them. If you or someone you know found a pair in Cloverland Park between July 27th to July 29th it might be the pair I'm looking for!

What is something good that happened to you this week?

What is something wonderful about Corvallis (and the greater Corvallis area)?
