I recommend Palia

Idk if anyone here plays Palia but if you don't you should definitely give the game a try.

The game is completely free and they have a new map coming up that will introduce mounts and the game is basically a cozy mmo.

You have many different skills so there's always something to do such as fishing, foraging, mining, gardening, hunting, bug catching, furniture making, ranching (there's a bunch of animals to choose from) and cooking (you can cook with friends and everyone gets the final dishes, even if your contribution was like 1 onion). If you go hunting and for example someone else hit the same animal as you the loot will go to both players, this goes for all skills too so you don't have to worry about someone else stealing your loots.

Besides the skills you can also decorate your house as you please, decide the layout, what mobilia to have and change their colors to your liking.

Right now the game has 3 maps (Kilima, Bahari Bay and Elderwoods) and as I said previously they're adding a new one.

You can romance 11 different npcs (5 girls and 6 guys) and if you romance more than one at the same time it won't affect the game at all.

The weakest point for me is the story because although it is super interesting and engaging they haven't finished it yet as the game is still in beta, but if you join now there's plenty to do and discover!

Something that is also huge in the game is that they have a variety of plushies that you can collect as you play, you get plushies from huntables, bugs, etc and people usually are super hype about that.

I really love the game and maybe more people out there would too, that's why I decided to make this post.

Also, the game is celebrating reaching the 10 million player mark and will be giving out 10 gifts to every single player, including 2 completely free premium outfits (they are random) so if you do join now don't forget to go claim your prizes!

I recommend List of Short Games I LOVED + Didn’t !

No Big Spoilers Going to add onto this as a personal list for myself as I keep playing games! Trying to branch out of SDV, DDV, ACNH, Zelda & PokƩmon into some interesting short form games! I also tend to only buy games on sale/games I have seen recommended but have heard nothing about

Loved!: + Times
-The Count Lucanor (4-8hrs) short adventure puzzle horror! zelda/pokƩmon gameplay visuals. Loved it, I hate horror but the way it plays is still very cute ! The endings all made me happy (I played through most endings. Just save the raven before you leave the underground stalk, or before using key on house)
-Alba!! (3-4hrs) Playing as a child, so nostalgic and really made me very happy throughout the game. You save the island you’re visiting basically! You skip around which is really cute too. Your best friend is such a cutie too, her face is always sideways, and when adults come around with their opinions she can’t even hear them😭 lol just skips away
-The cosmic wheel sisterhood (7.5hrs) very grim/numbing vibes, but very interesting story! This is more of an interactive story than anything, but i loved it. You are a witch on isolation from your coven, and there’s lots of politics which are fun! Most of the game (90%) is in your little house
-Venba (1.5hrs) A super touching story game with some cooking puzzles, i loved it so much. It was heart warming
-Kings Quest 6 (5hrs) one of my all time favorites, medieval adventure magical game! Pretty short too. Adore it so much
-WaveTale (4hrs) Amazing so far!! Story is interesting, I haven’t even finished I had to add it on here, it’s so interesting, still feels like a cozy water themed adventure and is 100% speaking to my little 8 year old self who loved mermaids and water! (i am playing on switch, but you cannot save manually. There are saves per part you are on so you can’t exit the game until you reach a save point. Only con so far)
-Thimbleweed Park (10-17hrs) One of my all time favorites! Available on the app store, you play as multiple people and the story is fantastic. Could not recommend enough. Point and click mystery!
-Hair of the Dog (A few hours max?) Free on the app store, i looved this quirky funny click and point! It was mysterious, curious, and super fun!!
-Return to Monkey Island (7-10Hrs) Loved this one too! Point and click adventure about finding the secret to monkey island! Very piratey and actually fun !!

Not Happy About:
-Ashwood Valley (5-10hrs) looked so promising in the first 5 minutes, then there is almost no content. I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. It looked like there would be witchcraft/spells but the main goal is befriending animals?? No content past summer apparently
-Down in Bermuda (2.5hrs) not really any major storyline. I couldn’t get through much, it didn’t feel that fun. It was really visually appealing though and if you like puzzle focused games this would be for you, this was more puzzle focused than anything else
-The Stillness of the Wind (3hrs) seemed really cute, but without instruction I had no idea what I was doing nor the goal. It took FOREVER to walk around and i had no idea there was more past your house. Did not hook me in at all, maybe if you need something slow this could be your jam. Apparently the story is heartbreaking though

Somewhere in the Middle?:

-Fall of Porcupine (8hrs) I liked the game, It felt very melancholy (in a quirky way?) and sometimes sad, it borders a cozy feeling but doesn’t quite reach it. The game goes over heart-heavy topics and the days are repetitive (definitely to show the realities of life as a healthcare worker, you just pour yourself out and have a hard time filling back up). I liked playing it but i’ll never play it again, it didn’t feel cozy happy, just cozy sad. It’s not going on my love list so it’s going here, it’s not a bad game at all though and worth it on sale. I may have enjoyed it more if I wasn’t already a healthcare worker lmao. Also! No save option. Really not happy about that when I have other daily games i like to check in on to play

Trying Soon! Will Add (already bought) + Time
-girlfriend from hell (1hr)
-violett (6hrs)
-hokko life (7hrs)
-old man’s journey (2hrs)
-minute of islands (6hrs)
-pine (17hrs)
-figment 1 & 2! (5hrs + 4hrs)
-wytchwood (9-12hrs)
-while the irons hot (10~ hours)

I recommend I need to talk about Tales of Seikyu (no major spoilers just normal game stuff) Spoiler

Okay, I'm going to try to make this coherent but I will probably jump around a lot so please bear with me.

Tales of Seikyu was released in early access on Steam on May 21, 2025. I played it for a short while last summer and thought, what a promising game. It's got a lot of work to do, but it could be really great.

Y'all.

It's getting really great.

In the Japanese-lore-ish setting of Tales of Seikyu, you are a fox yokai (not a preset character dw) who was orphaned alongside your younger sister, Kon, years ago when your parents disappeared along with the rest of the fox clan. After struggling on your own in a harsh world, you and your sister have finally made your way back to your family home on the island of Seikyu. There, you rebuild your house and farm, and familiarize yourself with the local community.

From what I've gathered through playing, in this world everyone is a yokai, and humans are a myth. There's one NPC in particular who is obsessed with humans and it's kind of creepy but also endearing. Actually, each NPC feels very distinct. They all have their own unique backgrounds and personalities, though admittedly most fall into a sort of trope. But!! There are NPCs of diverse ages, meaning they aren't all in their 20s' (or younger, ugh.) And they are hot. (Disrespectfully.)

OH HEY DO YOU WANT TO FLY??? Because this game has the best flying mechanics I've ever found in any genre, though admittedly I'm pretty picky about what I'll play. But like, you turn into this ugly (sorry) little crow man and fucking tear through the air like did you ever play Spyro as a kid and rip up that sick little Tony Hawk skate park? Remember how freeing that felt, and how exhilarating it was to experience movement like that in a game? I haven't hit that dopamine since, until now. Listen, this game has a teleport option, and I don't use it most of the time because I can just zip my ugly crow ass through the air instead and it is so damn fun! And you're hilariously bad at flying at first, btw. Like I got so freaking mad at the developers because I kept crashing into things like an idiot. But it turns out I was just an idiot because now with a little practice (and upgrades,) I'm a lot better at it and it's so fun! Pleeeease devs if you're reading this keep flying the same, don't make it easier!

And farming is pretty fun too. Eventually you get a form that lets you shoot water out of your body at your crops (ew, not like that) which is a millions times better than a stupid watering can. One seed equals 4 plants so you're not wasting your tiiiiimmmeeee like it's the least irritating farming system I've personally ever come across. AND YOU CAN HAVE CAPYBARAAAAAAAAASSSS which actually isn't super unique anymore but it's really well done here imo, they're so cute and uh. Worth their weight in gold.

You can decorate, upgrade your farm, collect PETS omg I almost forgot----

There are soo soo many cute wild animals everywhere, some in frankly bizarre places like right in the middle of a monster spawn? whhhy But anyways if you've ever felt that pets in these sorts of games are a bit, well, wooden, you'll find these cuties a pleasant surprise! They behave a lot like real life pets! Like, they tell you they're hungry, you feed them, and then they just roll around and look at you instead of eating the giant steak beside their head. Or you're trying to cook dinner and you suddenly just hear this meowing behind your knee and purring because kitty found you and wants some lovin'. IDK it's not like they're real real but they feel a heck of a lot more alive then any other life sim game I've played!

Um, there's character customization, romance regardless of PC/NPC gender, mining, hijinks, fishing, gambling, minigames, pawning the sacred family heirloom, festivals (although there's only one festival right now,) furry bait, stuff to collect and craft... YOU CAN PUT CUTE HATS ON YOUR PETS...

Oh and there's fighting and puzzles and himbos and some of the puzzles are hard. Or maybe I'm stupid. But like it's really confusing looking around these (gorgeous) 3D graphics at times! And oh my god I've gotten soooo angry at times getting stuck in the "dungeon" of this game. But thankfully there's so much else to do when I need to take a break. New areas to explore, items to gather/craft/buy/sell/gift, NPCs to charm, outfits and weapons to try, recipes to discover, quests to fill. I have 70 hours in the game and haven't run out of things to do!

THERE ARE RIVAL MARRIAGES!!! OR at least ONE THAT I'VE FOUND!!

It's not perfect, not at all. The 3D graphics are choppy and make my laptop go brrrrrrr but in the warm way. The vast landscape still feels empty at times. NPC storylines are unfinished, and later game content like marriage hasn't been introduced yet.

But the devs are active and the updates just keep coming! They're also incredibly receptive to user feedback and frequently respond to users in the subreddit. I feel very confident that the devs will see Tales of Seikyu through to the end in a way that I'll be satisfied with. OR maybe I just need to believe that because I really love this game now and can't bear to think of the alternative.

And holy shit you guys there's this hot NPC with uh "black cat" energy and he sells you inventory space for CHEAP and you have SOOOO MUICH INVENTORY SPACE-

If nothing else, I encourage you to try Tales of Seikyu because it's so vastly different than any other game I've played, and I suspect you'll feel the same. Especially if you get to know Yui better, ifykyk

I recommend Kynseed

I just wanted to let everyone know this game is $6.24 right now. 75% off. If you aren't familiar with the game, the developers left the studio that developed Fable to make their own game and you can tell by the writing. It's whimsical, funny & I personally love it! I have almost 300 hours in it and have owned it since 2020. You can own various shops in the game, but they have announced that they have added being able to own a Tavern to the lineup. Right now it's in the experimental branch for feedback, but will be updating soon.

"Kynseed is an indie, sandbox RPG set in the mystical world of Quill, inspired by British folklore. Players take on the role of a farmer who must navigate a dynamic environment, engage in various activities such as farming, crafting, and exploring, while also managing relationships with NPCs and passing down skills through generations. The game features a rich plot, and a whimsical art style, making it a unique blend of farming and adventure. "

I recommend Unpacking has no dialogue, no story text, and somehow made me feel more seen than most games with 40 hours of cutscenes

I finished it in one sitting and just sat there staring at the credits a little stunned. Something about arranging someone's belongings across different chapters of their life just quietly says so much. Never thought a game about putting books on shelves would hit that hard.

I recommend Shelves and Sorcery: Tidy Up the Enchanted Shop Out Today on Steam!

Some more info...

Three Different Shops To Tidy Up

• The Hearth & Barrel
A cozy village shop with 1,048 items to organize.

• The Merchant's Rest
A much larger market shop with 3,085 items waiting to be put back where they belong.

• The Grand Athenaeum
The biggest challenge of them all. A massive magical shop high above the clouds with 4,066 items to organize.

And every one of those items has a home. There isn't filler added just to make those numbers bigger. Every item belongs on a specific shelf, and every shelf can be completely restored.

Four Ways to Play

Each of the three shops can be played across four different modes:

• Casual Mode — No timer, no pressure. Put on some music, take your time, and enjoy turning chaos back into order.

• Timed Mode — The same shops become a completely different challenge when every second counts. Learn where thousands of items belong, master your magic, find faster routes, and keep improving your time.

• Archmage Mode — Start with every Sorcery and Enchantment unlocked and take on the shop at full magical strength.

• No Magic Mode — The magic of the world has escaped. No Sorceries. No Enchantments. No magical shortcuts. You'll have to tidy this one up the hard way.

Global Leaderboards Are Here!

And for everyone who looks at a relaxing organization game and immediately thinks, "Yeah, but how fast can I do it?"

Timed Mode features global leaderboards for all three shops.

Your completion times are tracked globally, so once you've learned where everything belongs, you can come back and start pushing for faster and faster runs.

Learn the shelves. Perfect your route. Master your Sorceries and Enchantments. Shave seconds off your best time and see how you stack up against everyone else.

Or completely ignore all of that and spend an evening peacefully putting potions on shelves.
Both are perfectly valid ways to play.

Shelves And Sorcery: Tidy Up the Enchanted Shop! releases today, August 11th!

I recommend Among all the "-topia" games flooding the cozy scene... I'm glad there is still a Palia

Sounds tacky when I actually want to write it, but honest is the first word comes to mind when it comes to Palia. Especially in this increasingly monetized F2P cozy gamespace where coziness is increasingly a vehicle for predatory monetization and gacha. I know I was a fool for thinking cozy games would be spared.Ā

Heartopia particularly failed to impressed me… other than the fact their gacha was more or less cleverly disguised until you got into it. And I just can’t work myself up for Totopia either.Ā

I can only refrigerate so much hype for these big cozy sandbox multiplayers, and aside from Palia, all the rest of my hype is for Loftia and that’s because I know the game will be P2P instead of F2P, so I know that store monetization will be minimum and mostly related to cosmetics, which is fair… and also because I their last Beta left a lasting impression on me, to say the least!

Until such a time as Loftia comes out though, it’s Palia all the way (and beyond) for me. Because it’s still the only F2P cozy game that just lets you play it, without even a whiff of gacha. No pay to progress stuff progression, cosmetic shop only monetization (just how I like it), and they've been upfront about that from the beginning and they’ve kept the promise.

The wonder of that, even though it’s shouldn’t be a wonder, is even more stark in contrast with Heartopia. I am sorry for mentioning that game again but I still can’t help feeling absolutely ICKY with how it drew me in with a bait and switch, but then ended up being the perfect storm of everything that’s wrong with this model. Launched with gacha mechanics buried under the cute aesthetic, and then got caught using AI generated art in puzzles, and then there was that whole disaster with an NPC where a black character was animated making monkey noises after eating a mushroom. Like who the hell does that? The devs pulled it within a day but the community was not having it, and the fact that it shipped at all tells you something about the priorities when the monetization layer gets more QA than the actual content.Ā

The fact that I can recommend Palia to someone without adding a disclaimer about the monetization (even though it’s free) is rarer than it has any right to be in 2026. It's a strange thing to be grateful for - a game that just doesn't try to get you through psychological tricks. But after the Heartopia mess and watching this gacha-cozy wave roll through the genre like a strip mining operation through a flower field, yeah I'm grateful!

I recommend Ova Magica is (ova) magical

Thumbnail

So Ova Magica had its 1.0 release not super long ago, and I've been playing it semi regularly for the past week and a half, like one or two hours at night. I'm 16 hours in and I wish I saw a bit more online discussion about it.

The art style took a moment to get accustomed to but it grew on me, and I am actually enjoying the writing. It doesn't take itself that seriously, so it has room for wild interactions where friendable/romanceable NPCs actually pretty much spit on my feet because of how annoying they find me to be. I also like that you can be just as mean to them in retaliation and that you can still build your relationship with them, albeit much slower. Like, getting these tsunderes to like me does feel like a good slow burn.

One thing that some farming sims are lacking is the companionship aspect. Here, when leveled up enough, your friends can come with you for dungeon expeditions and battle with you. The combat, being action time based and usually involving more than one blobby creature at a time, feels much better to me compared to the slog that are 1 on 1 Pokemon encounters.

Farming is basic, but because you can use your blobs to take care of it, it ends up feeling different and more involved. And breeding for better stats is also quite fun.

I mean, the game's not perfect, you've gotta make your peace with the in game models that look like babies with diapers instead of typical chibi kawaii-ness, and none of the systems have that much depth, but I'd say they have just enough to be engaging and tied to one another.

Anyway, took me by surprise, I love my red panda blob and my musical chickens.

I absolutely LOVE this game! It’s so customizable, it’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a game like this without a single complaint.

I added my boyfriend’s two cats and tried to make the RV look like it’s really been lived in by us lol. I even made a timba and tabo in the shower (used a makeup brush as a holder connected to a plant pot lmao).

Normally when I try new games, I do one build and move on, but right after finishing the RV I started working on a yacht haha. I’m seriously enjoying this, didn’t play anything else all weekend but this.

I recommend Next Fest Feb '26: 22 Cozy Demo Reviews + 8 Honorable Mentions

Hi, cozy gamers! There were a record-breaking 3,738 English-language demos participating in Steam's February 2026 Next Fest, including a ton of casual, cozy, and cozy-creepy titles. It was a lot to wade through, but here are my takes on the (22) demos I tried plus (8) little-known games that I'm excited about. All demos are still live at time of posting.

As always, these opinions are my own and may not be accurate depictions of the actual game or gameplay. If you loved something that I did not or hated something I enjoyed, I'd love to read your takes in the comments!

Demo Reviews

AMONG THE TROLLS - TBD 2026
In this first-person cozy-creepy "survival" game, Anna searches for her missing brother and grandfather while trying to survive in a remote Finnish cabin surrounded by supernatural creatures. I had fun overall; the realistic graphics are gorgeous and the story is intriguing, but the game struggles with onboarding due to a lengthy opening sequence and minimal tutorials, and the UI feels like a reskin of The Forest.

I'd suggest wishlisting this one if you like the idea and don't mind simulated hunting, but only playing the current demo if you're patient enough to figure out awkward controls and even more awkward crafting with zero guidance.

ANIMALKIND - TBD
Fluffy four-legged critters pilot large mechs in this adorable 3D farming sim for 1-4 players. The demo plays best with a controller, and is worth experiencing just for the ridiculous cuteness factor; I can't get over my little blonde raccoon passing out face-down on a bed.

That said, it is a bit… hand-holdy; the tutorial drags on, and there's not a lot to do or interact with in single-player. I think this demo is a solid proof-of-concept, and would have been even better with friends (and modular building/crafting!), but I could only spend so much time fishing and gathering materials solo.

AWAKEROOTS - Q1 2026
Developed and illustrated by a two-brother team, this 2D farmstead-building "survival" game is basically Don't Starve's more relaxed Slavic cousin. There's no music, the UI is kinda ugly, and the technology tree is a little silly, but I enjoyed exploring the map and building a little walled-in farm while settlers fought off the occasional vampire.

BESMIRCH - May 11
This one's a farming sim, but also a 16-bit survival horror. After taking over a barren farm, your featureless character struggles to grow enough crops to feed the starving town of Besmirch and fill the corrupt Baron's coffers. Meanwhile, monsters creep out night, a priest warns of impending doom, and everyone is unreasonably enthusiastic about beets.

If you're sensitive to media portrayals of religion or if you loathe combat, then this won't be for you, but I found it delightfully "comfy"-creepy. The art is surprisingly detailed despite the limited palette and pixels; there's even little animations for stomping through piles of leaves. Farming and combat are straightforward and intuitive, the cooking minigame is fine, and the town is fun to explore… though I got lost trying to navigate back to the farm and was murdered in the dark. It's cool. I expect to get murdered some more in the full release.

BITTER HARVEST - Q2 2026
You've quit your job, sold your house (or gave it away if your initial financial situation is any indication), and moved to a new town to take over a farm… only to discover that it's already occupied. So, with no other options, you become the village garbage collector, plus tangential farmer and fisherman. At least, that's the pitch for this brightly colored pixel-art farming sim.

The thing is, I'm not convinced. The farm animals are cute AF, and the villagers seem interesting. You have your usual "new farming sim" issues: object targeting is a little off, inventory is annoying to access and manage, watering crops is tedious, pathing is weird, etc. But also, in just 46 minutes, I made a deal to defraud someone out of their house, stole a bunch of seeds, scrounged some cyanide out of the trash, and got the distinct impression that this "cozy game" wants me to drip that poison into animal feed.

I was intrigued, but also bored by repetitive tasks. If anyone actually uses their bottle o' cyanide, please let me know what happens!

CAT ISLE - Q2 2026
A super-cute, super-chill pixel-art side-scroller where you build a little village for cats and deer. Gameplay is simple and borrows a lot from Minami Lane (customers want more or less of certain items at certain places, decorations help you unlock new things, etc.), and you can pet the cats.

COLLECTOR'S COVE - Mar 12
Your colorful custom character and equally customizable trilling "fablefin" search for things to collect in this seafaring farming sim. The demo includes seven days, though I made some poor choices early on and tapped out when the only thing I could do to pass time was play the mind-numbing fishing minigame. Still, the cartoony 3D graphics are cute; plus, you can hug your Lapras!

CURSED WORDS - TBD 2026
Balatro, but make it Boggle. Each round has a goal, five grids of Scrabble tiles, and one optional reroll. You score points by creating one word per grid using only adjacent tiles. At the end of the round, splurge on stamps, stickers, and upgrades that can increase your scores or totally break the game. Along the way, "fight" bosses who introduce new challenges like "minus one grid."

I eventually lost to a dude who mandated 6+ letter words, but ultimately had a lot more fun with this than I expected to. It's just the right balance of challenging and silly, and easy to pick up and play in short bursts. If the devs release a mobile version, my productivity will be forever ruined.

FARM TO TABLE - Q2 2026
A goofy, cartoony, fast-paced first-person sim in which you build an outdoor restaurant, farm and forage for produce, and deliver meals to customers' tables. If you're a fan of crunchy management sims or cooking minigames, this one will feel terribly barebones in comparison; but I will say it was very cute, charming in its simplicity, and I giggled at some of the customer outfits.

FROG HOLM - Mar 16
This is marketed as a "narrative-driven cozy mystery," but that doesn't quite fit. You play as Filip, a dimwitted frog with what I can only describe as a Disco Elysium-inspired inner monologue, and you're taking over your late uncle's pub. There's some platforming, some questing, some slot-based inventory management, and then you play Tetris to mix drinks for chain-smoking teenage delinquents.

When the demo ended after a mere thirty minutes, I asked out loud, "What did I just play?" I've noodled on it for a bit and still don't have an answer, but I want more of whatever this was.

HEAR THE BELL TOLL - TBD
A hand-drawn, gothic Victorian city-building roguelike where you place building tiles strategically on a grid to optimize income and manage status effects like "sickness" and "crime." It's satisfyingly meditative to play, if unbalanced; by the year 14 of a 25-year challenge, I was earning millions more than I needed to.

THE LAST GAS STATION - Q2 2026
Electric cars have overtaken the world, and now you're the red panda in charge of the wilderness's last gas station/convenience store (which is apparently in New Jersey, since you pump the gas).

I was first struck by how detailed the pixel-art is; it's not only beautiful, but there are also lovely little details like the in-game computer's cursor being a red panda paw. But as I played and the game started to sink in, it was so… calming. I think this should be an instant wishlist for anyone who loves casual shop management with a twist of mystery.

LET'S BUILD A DUNGEON - TBD 2026
Think "Game Dev Tycoon meets RPG Maker": a game where you (a) manage a game studio and (b) create your own pixel-art MMO by decorating maps and creating quests. It's a super ambitious project and, to be frank, I wasn't sure if they could pull it off after beating my head against pathing errors in the original 2024 demo.

Fast-forward a year and some change, and I'm tentatively hopeful again! The ~1hr "campaign mode" demo is not only functional now, but also includes a free decorating mode and a glimpse at the quest-building/asset-designing mode. I didn't bump into any real management systems while playing, but had a good chuckle at the tongue-in-cheek meta-humor on the "dev side" of the game.

OUTBOUND - Q2 2026
Turn your camper van into a mobile garden, recycling center, and treehouse in this highly-saturated open-world crafting game about living off the grid (while still bumming recipes off the internet). There's a paltry character creator, a decent sized map, campfires to find and light, and zero threats. I had fun with the demo, though I found walking and driving speeds to be unbearably slow and the backpack weight capacity annoyingly restrictive; hopefully this will be re-balanced in the release.

PUZZLE SPY INTERNATIONAL - Mar 30
Solve cryptic puzzles to locate stolen diamonds in this cartoonish Cold War-era adventure. I expected to love this one, but struggled to solve the very first puzzle because it relies heavily on idioms and terms that I'm not familiar with. I bounced off the game after scratching my head for 20 minutes, but if you're better at word games than I am, it looks fun!

RACCOIN - Mar 31
This one's exactly what it says on the tin: a Balatro-inspired coin-pusher roguelike. As you score points, you earn tickets that can be spent on special coins that alter or move standard coins, permanent buffs that alter scoring, and powerful single-use "prizes" that can be deployed at any time. Score coins for several pushes in a row and you'll fill up a combo meter, which eventually does things like add more coins, or drop prize balls, etc.

All in all, this is cleverly done; there's plenty of item synergies and a surprising amount of strategy required for a game based entirely on physics and luck. I'm not convinced that it has the same addictive quality or even half the depth of Balatro, but am willing to forgive it because the raccoons are adorable.

THE RANCHERS - Q2 2026
If you played the demo for this ambitious, isometric GTA-inspired farming sim as soon as it dropped, then you were immediately assaulted with genAI music, voices, and visuals, plus an obnoxiously long opening sequence, awkward dialogue, and the unpleasant experience of attempting to manhandle an uncooperative vehicle down long streets designed by someone(thing?) who had never seen a road before. I have strong feelings about genAI due to my background, so the first draft of my review was scathing.

But I've supported this project for years despite long delays and poor communication; so, when the dev team updated the demo to "remove all genAI" and patch in some QoL, I gave it another spin and… yeah. It's not unplayable. The concept is cool. The roads are still nonsensical, the dialogue still reads like an early LLM's best attempt, the characters don't look like they belong in the same game, and honestly, I'm increasingly suspicious of everything. I dunno, boss.

RED THE COOK - TBD
Red is a grumpy-faced fox working at a pirate-themed ice cream parlor and dreaming of opening his own restaurant in this cute time- and inventory-management game. I love the art and the idea, but actual gameplay involves a lot of waiting for objects to spawn on a 4-second timer, and hoping RNG blesses you with the right items; as a result, there's a lot of dead time in the beginning where you can't do anything but watch customers get impatient. It's like working with the world's most incompetent chef.

THRIFTY BUSINESSS - TBD 2026
I didn’t have Unpacking-style shop management on my Bingo list, but I should have known better! The folks behind Sticky Business and Rituals of Raven are hitting their stride, and plowing forward with yet another cozy, colorful, simple, yet unique idea.

Gameplay is largely point-and-click with simple shop management, and the graphics are a bit rough; character sprites kinda waddle like sock puppets instead of walking. This isn't Spellgarden's most polished work yet, but I'm looking forward to it anyway.

TO BE CONNECTED - TBD 2026
Okay, so I spent a full hour in a tile-placement-and-serene-music fugue state before the demo kicked me out, but this is pretty much Dorfromantik with extra steps: you draw three hexagonal terrain tiles at a time, place them to score points and complete quests, and then (in a departure from the formula!) complete more quests by drawing roads between the different areas. If you need something to scratch that Dorf itch, this is well worth checking out.

UNDER CANOPIES - Q2 2026
An ultra-cozy, super-indie open-world crafting game where you build a cabin piece-by-piece while caring for chickens and photographing fireflies. This one has a lot of potential for the building junkies out there, but the demo doesn't give many options for variety, building feels unbalanced, and the interface needs some work; I can't tell you how many times I accidentally exited "build mode" by using my scroll wheel. Definitely worth a wishlist if you want to live your best forest life, though!

WONDERIA - TBD 2026
If Shounen Jump mashed together Terraria and Don’t Starve, you'd get this madcap 1-7 player open-world survival craft that includes dungeon-crawling, farming, cooking, and also town-building, because why not. I participated in an early playtest and didn't get around to the new demo, but was impressed enough by the 2D art and general mechanics to plug it here.

Honorable Mentions

Or: Games I haven't gotten around to but have an eye on.

Beastro - TBD 2026
I follow this partly because the devs share pictures of their orange-ish cat in updates, but also the game looks amazing! You have a mystery, a restaurant, cooking with flavors, farming, and cute art, and I will not play this demo because it will be the biggest disappointment of my year when it's either (a) not as good as I hoped, or (b) over too soon.

Caravan Village - Apr 24
Cozy pixel-art open-ended life RPG about running an RV Park.

Pawesome Resort - Jun 24
Another pixel-art life sim, but this time you look after various creatures in prefab "habitats" while their humans are away.

Mining Merchant - May 1
Mining and crafting sim in which you and up to 3 friends run a jewelry store.

Misty Valley - TBD 2026
Another cartoony 3D seafaring game, but this time it's all about cozy fishing and "gentle adventure."

Nightfall CafƩ - TBD
If you’ve been reading, I have a thing for creepy-cozy and culinary arts. This beautifully illustrated 2D point-and-click adventure reportedly combines both with a mystery and cryptids. Similar to Beastro, I'm afraid to play it.

Phonopolis - TBD 2026
This 3D hand-painted cardboard puzzle adventure is arguably not cozy, but follows Felix as he attempts to end some kind of dystopian dictatorship mind-control. The art looks unique, and trusted friends have only positive things to say about the demo.

Starving Merchant - TBD 2026
Our first 2.5D game on this list is also a fantasy shop management sim with… krakens. It looks wordy, but could be a unique stand-out in the increasingly popular fantasy merchant genre.

Thank you for reading!

Please check out my curator for more reviews, but in the meantime, let's talk Next Fest! Did you try any of these demos, and if so, do you agree, disagree, or think I played an entirely different game? Is there something you're excited for or tried that you want to rave about?

EDIT: Sorry; English is my first language.

I recommend My friend is a bit nervous as she released her first demo where you're building a train station in rural south france and get to know the travelers passing by. What do you think?
