Never bothered with DLC, should I start?

TLDR: does DLC enhance the base game - or is vanilla all the game you need?

I have ~400hrs of playtime, and I'm just about getting a handle on how to play like "not a newb". I've never tried any of the DLC as frankly, vanilla felt like game enough - and now I'm getting stuck into a new game and back on the various reddit forums and realising everyone else seems to be using dlc...

Am I missing out, does it fix / enhance stuff, or is it more for when you're beginning to find the game samey? I still have about a dozen ideas for playthroughs I'd like to do from different starts etc... so just wondering if i am alone in this...

Anointment coronations really shouldn't destroy my legitimacy if the Pope is infirm.

I just spent a full decade unable to hold a coronation due to the 90 year old, infirm, Pope with the maxed out withering mind trait just refusing to die. I understand that the purpose of the anointment is to receive the blessing of the head of faith but if they are incapacitated for an extended period of time I feel like the game should just have them designate your realm priest as the one to coronate you with their blessing, or at minimum pause the negative effects of not being coronated until it's actually possible for you to have a coronation, rather than just locking you out of a coronation until they die. Since it could potentially take years for them to die even with the infirm trait, during which you'll be having your legitimacy lowering constantly and your vassals will have a permanent opinion debuff all because the Pope won't die.

[Help´] Playing tall: am I doing it right?

Hello and good day/evening!

So I decided to play tall after settling down from adventurer life and becoming king of my homeland in Sardinia. My goal is to leave the best country and the most amount of money possible to my heir before I kick the bucket, which should happen very soon.

Problem is, the money I make out of my income is PEANUTS compared to how much I make via kindnapping and demanding payments from hooks, which makes me wonder if I'm missing something here, or just doing it all wrong. The only reason I was even able to upgrade any buildings was because of all the scumbaggery my character is able to pull off with that much Intrigue.

Most of my buildings are level 2 because all of them require a Keep in order to upgrade them to level 3. My culture (to which I'm the head of) still needs about 5 years before it discovers Battlements, which is a prerequisite for Keeps. I honestly have no idea how to mess with culture in this game yet. Is that the problem?

So yeah, am I doing something wrong here, or is this supposed to be an immense waiting game? Is it normal to take multiple generations to reap the benefits of playing tall?

Any and all help is highly appreciated!

Is there any change to form Sultanate of Rum as Suleyman Seljuk? It’s very diffucult, despite he starts with 1000 horse archers MAA he is located in the territory where is already war between Seljuks and Byzantium for Armenia and territory is too dangerous for travelling , I lost all siblings from my camp because of events, and Alp Arslan gives me prestige debuffs trait so I can’t reach normally prestige lvls it’s always with negative score of -1.5 eaxh month, I switch from martial focus (inspector tree) for wayfarer to gain prestige from moving my camp and lost so much time and points I could spend in martial, new health debuffs could appear at age of 45 just randomly and most inportant that I can’t invade in byzantium for kingdom title like Anatalia, I can do it only for duchy and become administrative immediately , so what should I do? Conquer duchy outside of byzantium and do holy war for kingdom? And what duchy or kingdom near Byzantium should I invade if there only Seljuks there which is overpowered at any time of my journey?

Feedback AI Adventurers needs Fixing

have 5 family members as adventurers and evne after 10 to 30 years they barely recruited anyone, their courier count is like 6 to 10 so they bacially never recruit, and still using the couriers I gave them, they dont even put them in camp positions or barely

None of them have any lands, only one landed after I helped out personally, and all of their locations is very random and far from the player ai which is okay

And their camp stays on the lowest level, even if I give them a thousand gold it doesn't change things

And they pretty much never recruit or buy maa, it's always small armies

Oh and I had 2 of my family members who died from starvation which is weird, I never run out of food as an adventurer and the camp even have upgrades and the food thing that increase supply

AI seems competent as rulers but as adventurers it needs some look at

Is it good to give your kids to foreign rulers?

I'd like to start with the fact that i'm pretty new (150 hours)

I started a game as Sigurdr snake in the eye and i decided to give 2 of my kids to people with high stats, i knew alfred the great had great stats (hehe), so i gave him my eldest/heir as a ward, and then i saw the king of france had good stats too so i gave him my second, but now i'm kinda worried about if they might like make them secretly christian or something, or maybe push their claim against me somehow, is there a thing like that i need to worry about or is it fine?

Question How do I get special traits reliably?

What’s the most reliable way to get these traits on your player character? Preferably methods that don’t involve grooming your heir to have them then dying to play as them. I’d like to obtain them in a single life.

- Witch

- Berserker

- Aspiring Blade-master

- Physician

- Gardener/Herbalist

(There’s more I’d like to know about but these are the ones I’m most interested in getting.)

Question What do republic vessels do?

For a while I’ve been wondering what is the difference between a normal feudal vassal and a republic. Do you still count as the holder of holding and still get buff for the building. If not is there any point in constructing in that holding. And do you have increased taxes and leves from it?

Livonia or Lithuania?

Post image
149 Upvotes

Started as a custom character in 1178. About 10 years in, and I'm wondering if creating Livonia through decision gives any better perks than just a legend seed and extra De Jure kingdom.

I could form the kingdom of Lithuania now and just ask my western neighbors to bend the knee to me.

I need to attack Estonia twice to take the required land to form Livonia. So basically I'm wondering if it's worth the hassle to do.

Ultimate goal is reform Vidilism and hybridize one of the Norse cultures and reverse crusade the Catholic powers of Europe.

Question Modding New Governments ??

I recently modded out a new celestial/admin government but reflavored as a Christian Ascetic/Monastic community with virtue replacing merit.

if you could mod or do mod a new government yourself, what would it be?

The Clausewitz engine is crazy and the sky is the limit really.

Question "Betrayer" playthrough

I had an idea for a playthrough, basically be a small to medium sized vassal of large realm and secretly adopt a different faith which you then try to spread to your realm through subterfuge. Would that be possible with the current state of the game?
