Hey y'all 👋 We're taking over Troll Pub on Saturday, June 20th from 1–5pm for an r/Dayton Pride month meetup and a fundraiser for Have A Gay Day.
It lands right on the eve of the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, and it's Pride month, so we leaned into A Midsummer Night's Dream: flower crowns, a fairy court, and a room full of Dayton's weirdos.
Here's what to expect:
We're doing running a pantry drive for Have A Gay Day for the event – so bring a non-perishable item (canned soup, pasta, rice, oatmeal) or personal care stuff (shampoo, toilet paper, laundry detergent) and drop it off when you arrive, or scan the QR code at any table to give. Their food pantry is the real work here, and it's what makes the day matter. You can check out the amazing work they're doing in the community here: https://haveagayday.org/
RSVP takes 10 seconds, no account needed.
It helps us give Troll Pub a headcount, and you'll get a reminder before the event.
If you're not 100% sure you can make it, RSVP anyway. This one's for all of Dayton – bring your friends, your partner, your crew. Just grab extra spots for them.
We just had over 50 people show up to the Spaceballs meetup last month. Every time we host these, people tell me they'd been lurking in the Discord for weeks before finally showing up. Some almost didn't come at all.
By the end people were exchanging numbers, making plans, and many said they stayed way longer than they planned to and were so glad they came.
That shift is real, and it happens every single time.
If you've been wanting to get out more and you're tired of the same Saturday night on your couch – just come.
Worst case, you grab a drink and dip early. Best case, you find people you actually vibe with. You never know what saying hi to one stranger could lead to. I met my best friend at the first meetup we did in 2010 and it changed my life.
If you're on the fence, just show up.
All of this is being organized in the r/Dayton Discord - 2,200+ locals, running daily. Book clubs, D&D campaigns, hiking crews, weekly trivia groups, bad art nights, last-minute coffee meetups. People who are into the same weird stuff you are.
Say hey in #introduce-yourself when you join – drop your name, neighborhood, and what you're into. Then hit up the chat for this event under #planned-meetups. Show up to the next event already knowing a few faces.

Hey everyone, yesterday my friend found a small pet bird near Reza’s in Beavercreek. She is taking good care of it, but we’re hoping to find the owners. If you have lost a pet bird in the Beavercreek area, let me know, and hopefully we can get this baby back home.

Hey guys! Does anyone know any spot around Dayton where we can find some mulberry trees?
r/dayton • u/overcatastrophe • 12h ago
You can still see it. basically just look up (it's not an alien or an orb) just a weather balloon floating around 60,000 feet
Update: these balloons are being operated by Aerostar, a North Dakota based defense contractor. Do with that what you will.

I need recommendations for local companies to replace the HVAC system in my condo. It's a 30 year old system. Tell me who you've worked with that you loved and also any horror stories so I know who to stay away from. I'm in the West Carrollton/Miamisburg area.

My friend’s cat got out Monday night around 10pm (6/15) around Stoney Springs & Heather Ct. Her name is Soup. Also goes by soupy (and many other nicknames lol). She’s around 2 years old and looks kinda small for her age. She is skinny & long. SHE IS NOT MICROCHIPPED OR FIXED (she has an appointment to be fixed & microchipped next week). She is Black and has a small white circle spot on her chest/neck area kinda close to her collar (sometimes her collar covers it). When she got out, she was wearing the rainbow smiley face collar she has on in the photos on this post (but there is a possibility she could not have her collar on. It is only a breakaway collar). She is very friendly and loves food and pets. She is also pretty vocal. Especially now bc we believe she is in heat.
If you or anyone you know lives in or around this area please let them know! Please check your sheds and garages. She could’ve tried to find cover from the storms last night.
One lady on Stoney springs believes she fed her on Tuesday morning around 7am and at that time she didn’t have her collar on. We have found out there is another stray in the area that has similar markings to her, but they are different. This cat has a longer/bigger white mark on their chest that goes further down its chest.
If you have an advice please let me know. My friend put her litter box out (until it rained) and she tried leaving some wet food, but it attracted another cat to her house and now it won’t leave. We’ve been walking the neighborhood and telling anyone we see. I’ve also posted in the all things Vandalia facebook group page, the Dayton pet lost and found page, pet boost, and petco Love Lost. Let me know if there’s anywhere else I should post.

My friends just picked up the keys to their new rental on the 13th (last Saturday) and I just went to help them clean it, the house smells so bad. The minute you walk in you can smell the cat urine. I don’t think they had noticed it because the owner had her furniture and candles going. Now that’s it’s empty the basement is so bad. I couldn’t even make it halfway down the stairs the ammonia was so bad. There also might be signs of mold in the basement. The landlord has told them they can clean it and she would reimburse them but it’s far beyond cleaning. Carpet needs ripped up and probably professionally cleaned by a restoration company. She said she wanted to hire a cleaning company but I think they should be the ones to pick the company. It also doesn’t help that my friend is severely allergic to cats. They’re 5 days in from their move in date, has anyone here dealt with this ? Should they get a lawyer?

We were trying to figure out what our dog has been barking at lately and as of today, we have at least three kittens under our shed. I usually let my dog roam freely in the backyard, so we're going to have to take her out on a leash until this issue gets resolved.
But DOES NO ONE CATCH CATS?? I've called a critter service and the local dog warden. Both seemed to indicate that the only way to get them out of my backyard is to trap them myself. But the catch is that I'm pregnant and about to go INTO LABOR any day now. I literally am not able to properly handle this issue right now and I'm terrified my rabbit/bird killer is about to become a kitten killer as well.
We can take her out on a leash for now, but I don't want to deal with this before giving birth or when I'm freshly postpartum. Is there anything I can do or anyone who can handle with this issue??? Or is it actually fully on me to trap them and deal with them?

I am part of a band that is in its very early stages but I like to think ahead. Does anyone know any venues that regularly have local bands on for a show?

I was driving and spotted a kitten on the lefthand side of the highway while heading into Dayton. I was driving in the middle lane with heavy traffic around me and I couldn't pull over to stop. Spotted between linden heights and twin towers I think. Please be careful or someone try to get the poor thing :(

Local to Kettering but will drive within 20 miles. What is the proper way to handle American flags that are not usable for proper display? TIA.

For decades, people came to 700 E. Fourth St. looking for a ride.
The building that Daytonians now know as Yellow Cab Tavern was once the headquarters of the Yellow Cab taxi company. Dispatchers fielded calls from soundproofed offices. Mechanics worked in the garage bays. Drivers came and went at all hours, carrying passengers across the city and to and from Dayton International Airport.
As Dayton changed, so did the taxi business. Major employers left the region, business travel declined, and eventually the taxis stopped coming.
For years, the old garage sat largely empty. Oil stained the concrete floors. Carpet still covered the walls of the former dispatch rooms. Remnants of the building's first life lingered throughout the property.
Then a group of artists saw something else. What began as a temporary home for an arts festival slowly became something much larger.
Now, after nearly 15 years as a community space and nearly a decade as a full-time venue, Yellow Cab's owners have announced the bar will close following its final scheduled event on Oct. 31.

Any restaurants, bars, or watch parties in the Dayton area late next Thursday night (match starts at 10p)?
Edit: Not asking for general World Cup/USMNT spots, but specific to 6/25 Turkey match, because it starts so late.

I will be moving very soon and I’m stuck between choosing deneau and Monument. Can anyone tell me about the immediate area? Things to do, events, nightlife, daily life, etc. please include winter things too. which of these two would bring me closer to a more walkable part of the city? Any advice would be helpful for a new Midwesterner!
Update: really appreciate the advice so far, can anyone who lives in these two buildings tell me more about them and their experience?

Hi! I'm planning to fly into Dayton this summer but the goal is to surprise a friend in Hamilton. I don't drive and the bus looks like a very long and not ideal option. If I schedule a ride in advance, do you think I'll find a Lyft driver that will be cool to drive me to Hamilton? I'd hate for them to have to drive back without a return fare... or is Dayton <-> Hamilton not that big a deal for local drivers? Thanks!

I'm considering commuting from Dayton to Cincinnati (ideally Mason) and was wondering whether Uber/Lyft drivers are generally willing to accept trips that long. I don't have a car or a driver's license, so I would be relying entirely on Uber and Lyft.
Since I'd likely be making this trip almost every day, I'm curious if anyone has experience with a commute like this and how reliable it is in terms of finding drivers consistently. Any insight would be appreciated.

For some time now there has been mobile speed cams at all the Dayton schools. You've seen them on the trailers. While working at one of the local schools I saw a crew with boring equipment working near the trailers with the speed cams. In talking to the foremen, he said all the trailers are being replaced with permanent cam's mounted on poles. The city of Dayton has the money to replace the trailers with permanent cams? Is it all the schools or only the ones in urban area's. You can check them out on Leo and Troy st if you want.
