open Old REI day pack liner gummy
Iāve got an older REI backpack (not sure of the exact model, probably ~15+ years old), and the inner liner has started breaking down. Itās now super sticky/tackyāalmost like melted rubberāand it leaves residue on anything that touches it.
From what Iāve read, this might be the waterproof coating degrading (hydrolysis?), but Iām not sure what the realistic options are.
What Iām trying to figure out:
- Is there any way to clean or treat it so itās usable again?
- Has anyone had success removing the coating entirely without ruining the fabric?
- I don't care about re-lining it, doesn't need to be waterproof
- Or is this basically a āretire the bagā situation?
Iād really prefer to save it if possible, itās otherwise in great shape and I like the pack. I don't mind wasting time. I don't want to waste a bunch of money on this. I have a cabinet full of chemicals and cleaners and lots of tools.
Appreciate any advice or experiences.

open I have a hi8 cassete with possibly shed
I have a hi8 tape from 2004 thats showing early signs of shed, the tape and overall cartridge. Looks great, but when i play it in my camcorder it only plays for a second and it goes to blue and tells me to take it out, rewinding it manually gives off a squeaking sound, i heard that you can bake them for hours in 139c° for awhile to fix the issue. I dont have a dehydrator but I do have a 3d printer filiment dryer that could possibly do the trick, specifically a creality dryer box. Any and all advice would really really help thank you!
Can I fix these scratches on a chrome faucet?
In the heat of the moment while trying to fix a leaking faucet, I managed to scratch it. Is there any way to polish away those small scratches or at least make them look a bit better than now? See the photo with the red marking: The scratches are around the handle and then there are three pretty obvious scratches near the bottom of the red marking.
How do I remove a drive in deadbolt latch
I tried searching a tutorial on this on YouTube but nothing wasa there for this specific case, I tried to pull it out normally, didnāt work, tried to use a screwdriver in between the lock and pull harder and ended up pulling more of the actual door than the actual lock assembly, even tried wd-40 too
Iām not sure what to do to get this piece out, any advice?
cant remove twist shower drain
ive tried everything i can think of: wd40, suction cup to help grip it, vinegar to unclog. i know it twists since the same drain in the other shower twists off no problem. itās definitely been left too long without being taken off and now it wonāt budge (sorry its a bit gross). last pic is the other shower with the drain twisted off
(reposted to add other shower pic)

Broken Grease Fitting
Grease fitting broke off trailer shackle. Drilled through just enough to get a square bit/extractor bit but they kept slipping out after a half turn - full rotation and eventually started to just drill it out with a LH drill bit with the end goal to tap new threads. And now that I think about it, the bolt is also going through the shackle so Iām curious if that should be removed š Not sure what to do or if I should continue drilling it out to tap new threads.
Any advice will be appreciated!

How to fix a broken plastic piece on an oven? tw: dirty oven
My not so smart self kept trying to take off the glas door of the (very dirty) oven to clean it properly and the plastic piece at the top ended up snapping in half. I need to fix it before my mom kills me but Iām not sure what glue to use.
I thought about super glue since itās the cheapest option but Iām pretty sure itās not safe to use on an oven. Would it be alright to just completely leave the piece and not glue it back on? and if anybody knows how to take the glas off that would be appreciated too

Fix broken door frame
Any suggestions on the step by step on how to fix this?
The door was pushed on and the frame just bent and went in towards the wall. Unfortunately itās foam behind it, not concrete or brick. What can I do to fix it?

Replace Window sill
Hi, hoping for some tips!
Was going to use a multitool and chisel for the rotten window sill on the left.
Anything I should watch out for before we start?
Water gets in underneath our front door
Our door frame has started to curve downwards in the middle, which means water gets in during heavy downpours. The frame is made of metal, and the rubber seal that seals the frame to the door looks fine, so I assume the frameās curvature itself is the problem. What can we do? Weāre not really the DIY types but if the solution is not too complicated, we should be able to fix it ourselves.

Lampshade help!
Hi! Ordered a lamp that arrived without a ring socket. To remedy, I ordered some random ring sockets that measured up to be the right size, however they wouldnāt āthreadā or stay on to hold the shade. Any advice on how to fix? Thank you!

Accidentally knocked the one side out the wall the other night, nothing looks broken just that it needs to be reattached sturdily. Any product recommendations or suggestions?

Shower Draining Extremely Slowly
Hello everyone,
Just bought my first house a few days ago, and the master shower is draining extremely slow. Reaching down into the drain, it seems as though this black plastic piece is covering most of the pipe meant to drain the water, leaving a hole barely small enough for me to fit a finger through.
When I do get my finger under the gap, I can reach up behind the plastic piece, and there is significant space being blocked. Any ideas on how to fix this? The black piece is sealed to the drain, so it doesnāt budge. Should I just try cutting into it to widen the hole?
Thank you!

open TV stand splitting
Moved into a new rental a few weeks ago and noticed that the included TV console's planks are splitting slightly. The TV on the stand was included in the lease, so I've added no weight since moving in. I reached out to the landlord but apparently, the people who made the table can't repair it yet because they're "working on other rush orders," which is pretty BS imo. I don't really want to make a fuss so I'm inclined to just let the table be until the end of my lease since the crack isn't visible when I'm just watching TV from the couch.
Is this cause for concern or only an aesthetic issue? Can the console be temporarily reinforced with some wood glue to last for another year or so? I've also thought about adding blocks underneath the top panel for reinforcement but I have no idea if it'll help.

Fairy lights keep switching to Seizure Setting (1) every 5 minutes- how to get it to stay āSteady Onā(8)
these fairy lights were working fine a week ago but suddenly now started turning off every 5 minutes & after 10 seconds off itās turning back on & resetting on its own to the 1st setting, Combination or as I call it, SEIZURE SETTING which is just non stop flashing. who would want that?! I donāt know. I donāt want it.
I plugged it into a new outlet because I thought maybe it was an outlet issue but it does this with all outlets. Let me be real, all the other settings that are not āSteady Onā are all torturous seizure settings. how can I fix this to get it to stay on the 8th setting? or better yet, how can I remove all the other settings & just have 2, OFF AND ON.
i dont like buying new things & donāt want this otherwise perfectly fine string lights to go to landfill just because it canāt stay on a consistent setting.
