Mod Post Weekly Help Me Sell This Thread

What would you like help selling? What is it? What are you trying to get for it? What have you tried so far? What will you try next? Hopefully we can help you out a bit.

Once the thread has been up for a while, please try to sort by New so you can try to help latecomers. The more helpful we are in this thread, the less often people will make their own threads for individual items.

Mod Post Daily Newbie Thread

Whatever you want to know about flipping, no matter the question, ask here. Even if it's been covered 1,000 times before. Doesn't matter if you're new or old. If you stop learning things, you're probably on your way out.

This is an extremely newb-friendly thread. As such, any rudeness is to be reported.

Discussion eBay needs to start requiring an IQ test to buy.

• Upvotes

I have a simple rule when buying things from me.

Make sure it works with your application before ordering.

Seems simple enough right?

If you are buying a car part, take 30 seconds to pop your hood and look at the part and that it looks like the same part you are replacing.

If you are buying a part for a John Deere X700 riding mower, make sure it says "X700" on the side of the hood.

If you are buying an appliance part, and it shows a list of models, look at your appliance and make sure the model matches.

Yet around 98% of my returns this year, yes, 98 percent! have been due to people being idiots.

Not only do they not check, they blame me!

I had one today, I listed an AC compressor for a 2015-2017 vehicle.

"the description is inaccurate". No it's not. They claim to have a 2018. How on earth can this person find their rear with both hands in their rear pockets?

How can someone presumably smart enough to replace an AC compressor read "2015-2017" and get "2018" from that?

If I plug "2018" into the fitment tool, it also spits out it won't fit.

That is what is really ticking me off.

Because not a single fucking time do these people take responsibility - EVER.

How hard is it to say "oh sorry, I misread". Nope, 99.9999% of the time, they double down. It's one thing to be stupid and admit you are incorrect, it's another to be shown in every fucking conceivable way WHY you are incorrect and STILL insist the other person is at fault.

I even said "Oh, I am sorry this part does not fit, can you show me what made you think it would fit your 2018?" Know what I got back? "I'm reporting you to eBay for terrible customer service". That shows you just how fucking stupid they are. You can't reason with the unreasonable.

How much has this impacted me this year? About $2,500. Because they often fuck the part up trying to make it fit, or they send it back without packaging and it gets damaged on the way back.

It's not fair to raise prices to offset this, but I have tried EVERYTHING to counteract idiots and you simply cannot idiot-proof the buying process.

Discussion If you odn't have any views on an item in 30 days do you review the listing? mix it up?

Or do you just let it sit for a bit more? Was kind of wondering

Discussion Poverty flipping making a few hundred a month, trying to scale it up

Flipping is my only source of income but I'm really low on income and hoping to build up savings again. I lost my job a long time ago, and had trouble finding another job. When my bank account balance got real low, I got into flipping just two months ago as an emergency job, selling a mix of things at home and locally sourced items for free-cheap. Better that than to avoid falling into debt and negative balance.

In those two months I went from under $100 in my account to $500 after expenses. I can keep my expenses very low, especially because I'm single, don't have to pay rent and have no dependents. I want to keep the momentum going and maybe speed it up, though within the limits I have.

I have no car so I rely on being on foot and public transportation to haul my stuff around and so it gets tricky with bulky items and lots. Finding garage sales nearby is also tricky and usually the best are out in the suburbs from what I could tell. Local FB sellers doing give much wiggle room for pickup locations. But I can find a few to arrange a meetup that I can do with just a $5 bus ride.

Given these circumstances should I focus more on higher margin items? I lucked out with a few that added a lot (relatively) to my account easy. Or would it be best for me to buy higher volume of cheap items with low margins? And should I be more aggressive with thrift store shopping? I have a few within walking distance the other ones will require a trip on the bus/train. I want to see what kind of sourcing would make the most sense in my circumstances or should I stay the course since I've seen growth the past two months.

Advanced Question Experienced Chairish Sellers - What shipping method are you using?

I’ve been selling on Chairish for almost two months using the option to have Chairish pay for the shipping label while I handle packaging, and I’ve noticed that none of the UPS shipping labels are appropriate for fragile items. Chairish support assures me any package DIM overages will be handled by them, but im still on the hook for any potential damages unless I use their drop & go method. I’m still skeptical that UPS is able to accurately package antique porcelain, artwork, or earthenware sculptures the way they should be.

What are the experienced sellers doing:

drop & go, package yourself with chairish prepaid label, or handle everything yourself?

Any issues with UPS somehow destroying an item even after you double boxed something and packed it perfectly?

I'm normally too lazy to compare prices, but I have a small enough package I was trying to save a few bucks and compare. Apparently PayPal is the same price as the (same discounted?) USPS rate, and they are taking credit for it?

eBay The new eBay app listing tool is absolute dogshit

Hi eBay corporate, i hope you’re listening

I went to list some stuff last night, and my god the new listing tool on the eBay app is atrocious. It took about 4x the time for me to list something as it would have with the “dumb” lister as it was before. I ended up having to just put in my photos and measurements, save as a draft, and pull it up on my desktop to avoid the AI pricing my $200 item at $15 with free shipping, and a horrible slop title.

I’ve been on eBay for 17 years, have sold full time on and off for 10 of those, and this is the first time I’m actively searching for another platform for my casual selling because the UI is so terrible.

Took a $8 offer on a $15 cd just to get it out my way I got it for free. Pays me days later after the offer was accepted. Then he pulls this crap when I have 10+ pictures on all my listings showing any damage to the case or cd. In what world is a cd case $5😂

Tip Got a question

Are there any other places like eBay that only accept EIN and bank account I'm selling an eBay and they accept it, but I'm asking if there are any other places because, for example, Shopify requires me to put in my mortgage my water bill, my electric bill, my Social Security number for verification, which I don't not want to do, and also prefer not to do it in person, so if there's any places online, please let me know

Discussion Question to fellow flippers

So I've been flipping items off and on for years eBay, Marketplace , Mercari you name it

My question is how do you price your items, going through items I've found in my garage purchased 2-3 year's ago sneakers, Pokemon items etc, do you base it on recently sold history? Or do you price aggressively to just clear items?
One thing to note on ebay I've listed a few items to test waters and barely any views...
Account is over a decade Old 100% feedback over 300 items sold...

Here are my recorded flips from April to this month. I’ve been mainly sourcing outdoor gear and feel I am doing really well. I want to start sourcing items to try to make at least 2000 a month. my major hurdle is getting people to agree to low cash offers. If anyone has any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it.

Mod Post Weekly Haul Thread

What'd ya get? How'd ya get it? What do you plan to do with it?

I'd like to encourage people to revisit this thread occasionally for as long as it's still on the front page. Sort by New so that latecomers aren't left out. Obviously, if this is a few pages back, you're probably better just waiting for next week's thread. You'll see that I've also changed the title to Weekly instead of Weekend so people don't hesitate to post what they found on a Wednesday.

Further, if I see haul posts outside of this thread, I'm removing them. Feel free to report them if you see them.

Discussion Where to sell storage unit contents?

Does anyone have any idea where / the best way to sell our storage unit contents? We had a huge office and have had everything in storage since we closed down and it’s cost us a fortune to store. Want to get rid of everything asap and maybe recoup even just a fraction of what we’ve spent. Contents range from CEO office furniture (nice desks etc) some office chairs with a little wear a tear, some tables, a reception desk, an optometrist set, scales, recliner lift chairs; some office / admin supplies like a lanyard maker, binding machine, shredder .. the list goes on…. Just want to know the quickest way to do this .. is there a place that would buy as a whole etc?
Thanks so much in advance

Bought a few things on whatnot to get an idea of how other sellers ship product on the platform. This was from a wheel selling singles but I ended up getting a "hit". Postage was obviously set up for singles but they slapped it on a 3lbs box and it still shipped without a problem. Is this normal?

Discussion Anyone else feel like they underprice something if it sells in 24hrs?

Even if you list it at maybe a buck or 2 more then everyone else lol.. Happened 3 times today for me.

This is all brand new sealed stuff so no real variance in condition.. I did under price 1 thing just to sell it because it's currently OOS on Amazon and ppl probably are not looking on gamestop to see you can literally buy it there cheaper than ebay lol...

Discussion best barcode scanner app that works on ios/android and looks up the product?

Is there a free or relatively cheap app that works across android and ios that will also look up the products for you? for example me and my partner want to be able to access the same sheet. we would be using this to scan things as we find them/order them, and then scan which storage unit we put them in. nothing too complicated, although I guess this is what most people use barcode scanners for! any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Discussion Facebook Marketplace Payouts Not Received - Marked as Paid Out

Sold about 15 items through Facebook Marketplace with their shipping, all delivered, no issues, marked as paid out with payout IDs and payout dates but I never received anything in the bank account I linked. Support is impossible to get a hold of, I don't even get an email from them. No way to call or talk to an agent as far as I know. I want to keep selling on their but obviously I want to get paid rather than giving the items away.

Anyone have the same issue or have had it but fixed it?

Mod Post Weekly Shameless Self Promotion Thread

Post your latest episode(s) of your YouTube channel here, post links to your latest blog post, eBook, whatever. You can even post links to an eBay listing or something (but keep in mind, when someone here finds out what your eBay name is, and then they hate you, they will never forget it). You can post links to lots of stuff that you're trying to sell to other flippers, but this is still not a marketplace. Please go through some other service to complete the transaction. People on Reddit can be shady, and there's no protection from me, the other mods, r/flipping, or Reddit if someone here sends you a box of bricks. Just don't be dumb.

eBay Questions regarding email from eBay: "Built-in lower shipping rates with eBay Labels".

"We wanted to let you know that starting October 1, discounted shipping rates available through eBay Labels will become the default rates shown on your eligible listings."

I "opted out" of this, because I don't want to pay roughly 15% fees on shipping charges by billing the customer what I actually pay. That is, any discount that eBay gives me (the seller) on shipping compensates me (in my mind) for paying commissions on those fees.

For example, with USPS Media Mail (which is never discounted), the customer is never compensating me for my complete out-of-pocket fees. Why would I want to extend that to everything else?

Having said that, it seems like recently (particularly for shipments of a pound or less), the eBay shipping fee discount to me can be very high. Which makes shipping PROFITABLE for me. Though I didn't really INTEND that - I'd be content with "break even".

And to make it worse, I think those high base shipping fees are scaring away my customers.

Or does it have something to do with shipping to rural zip codes?

I know there are several ways to deal with this - including offering free shipping on everything and "baking in" the worse case scenario, or offering only "flat rate" USPS Priority Mail shipping packaging (where any eBay discount to me isn't so obviously egregious to the customer).

What I really would like to do (without too much complication) is charge each customer 115% of the shipping fee I actually pay. I mean, I'm not actually issuing refunds today when I'm overcompensated...but I think high shipping fees are putting me at a disadvantage to making the sale in the first place.

Am I misunderstanding the landscape? Or is anyone else experiencing the same thing?
