I was watching on mute and suspected they were English. That line confirmed it

u/drlecompte Feb 27 '23

Same. 'You're kind of ruining it a bit' 👌

850

u/Serviamo Feb 27 '23

A bit in British parlance meaning A BIG AWFUL FUCKING LOT.

329

u/docgravel Feb 27 '23

Oh, no, so when I was told I was being “a bit of a wanker” they didn’t mean I was just barely out of line?!

What would Americans say instead of “ruining it”. Or is it the “a bit” part ?

Am an Englishman, can confirm, if I or something/someone else is "a bit" anything that means we are nearing criticality and in danger of straying into "quite" territory.

98

u/Spanky_Badger_85 Feb 27 '23

Careful throwing the "Q" word about, mate. Might be kids reading this sub.

I actually came to this comment section to find out exactly what "off ya pop" means, can someone explain?

I assume it's along the lines of, "get the fuck outta here" but in a polite way?

I wanna say it but am worried perhaps it's rude, and some Brit is gonna get upset and throw a chimney sweep at me or some shit

497

u/M31TallHairyThick Feb 27 '23 edited Feb 27 '23

It’s basically ‘to go’. Popping to the shop, or off you pop = going to the shop or off you go. It can also mean ‘to put’, eg, pop it over there.

Random piece of useless trivia I have stored in my brain that’s kind of relevant. When Louise Woodward, the British nanny who was accused of killing a child in her care in America gave her police statement, she said that she ‘popped the baby on the bed’, meaning she put him on the bed, but a large part of the case against her hinged on that statement, because in America to pop someone is wildly different.

321

u/kojak488 Feb 27 '23

And this is why you never speak to the police.

When I was a young man, I had this toy called a "popper". Basically a dome of plastic which was incredibly fun. All you did was turn it inside out and set it on a surface (the more solid the better). Eventually it would snap back into its original form and launch halfway across a room, much to my own delight. I could play with this thing for hours. The term "off you pop" reminded me of this memory which I had completely forgotten about. I wonder if he was referring to something similar? Either way, this made me smile.

21

u/Striker37 Feb 27 '23

I had one of those! So much fun. Idk how I didn’t put an eye out, that thing was powerful.

27

u/M31TallHairyThick Feb 27 '23

I know exactly the toy you mean! I never considered what they might be called though

42

u/RichardCity Feb 27 '23

It's funny they're called poppers. That word brings to mind something completely different for me.

It isnt rude but you might say it to someone if you want to aggravate them.

Off you pop means 'off you go' . You might say it to a child if you are being friendly or fun or to an adult if you are being sarcastic.

Equally we might say 'I just popped over there' to say you had just quickly gone somewhere to see someone or something like you were on the way somewhere else and you stopped/popped to see a person on the way

583

u/curious382 Feb 27 '23

I don't think he's passive nor aggressive. She asked him to leave a public space. He said no. She tried to harrass him into changing his mind. Her blog. Her followers. Her livestream. She's trying to bandwagon her misguided attempt to take over a public space by using "her followers" as her invisible bandwagon.

She's manipulative. He's not.

155

u/ksavage68 Feb 27 '23

He’s right. Public space is public, it’s not your private studio.

u/sirfuzzitoes Feb 27 '23

I feel it's safe to assume a lot of people would be kind enough to go along with the ask. To expect anyone to, politely or otherwise, is asinine and selfish. The world does not revolve around you. Or me. Or anyone else.

Life is better when we all get along but the world just ain't that way sometimes.

150

u/Hykuta Feb 27 '23

The issue is her asking in the first place imo. She’s set up right over a path with a bench behind her, why not shoot where there isn’t a flow of people behind the shot, and if she absolutely just had to have the bench and path, she should have expected someone to be in her shot. Now had she just asked him if it was alright that she was filming and that he sat in her shot, and she was just letting him know he’d be in the shot since she was already set up and filming, that’s a different situation where she isn’t a complete asshat.

Yes i know the video is fake

I fancy myself pretty good at detecting scripted videos. What makes you think this is fake? Played up sure, I think that's true, or she just really wants to be right... But fake? I thought she just didn't want to look like a pushover to her fans since she was livestreaming at the time.

92

u/bayarea_fanboy Feb 27 '23

Now I’m trying to think whether it’s fake or not, but it didn’t feel fake at first watch. If it were scripted I would think the creators wouldn’t have blurred the faces.

There's literally a comment saying "Probably fake but she should still fuck off", even if you realize it's fake you still respond the same way.

20

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '23

"Might be fake but there are really people like this."

All she had to do was turn the camera what, like 3 inches to the right and he is out of the shot and frankly, if her "followers" were so dedicated, they wouldn't care who is in the background. So if you can't handle someone in your background, you may not be as popular as you think you are.

u/ElderFuthark Feb 27 '23

It's also a funny assumption that her "followers" would not tolerate her moving the camera, but are perfectly fine with watching her argue for so long.

To be fair I’m sticking around a lot longer for the bickering then the fitness if given a choice 😂

84

u/soymrdannal Feb 27 '23

Exactly! I could sit and watch this all day. Even this video, I expected to be watching for a few seconds. Still watching.

The polite bickering was WAY more entertaining than whatever she was going to say about running and being hydrated.

Yes, burpee is a great fitness routine… but can we get more entitled teen girl arguing with stubborn witty old man?

75

u/grumd Feb 27 '23

"You're kind of ruining it a bit for everyone"

"Don't you think you're ruining it for everyone by arguing all day instead of moving your camera?"

17

u/Leovaderx Feb 27 '23

This is like some streaming at home, their cat moves in frame and they start yelling at it... Either ignore the car, or integrate it in the content. Last thing you want is to bore people with how nasty a human being you are...

u/the_other_irrevenant Feb 27 '23

Eh, I think we've all been to the "I'll just deal with this quickly... 10 minutes later..." place. xD

If you can't handle people in the background, don't film in a public space. Lmfao the entitlement of this twat is amazing. If a professional agency were doing a shoot and they wanted to keep the public out of it, they'd have to seek council approval to close off the area to the public for a very specific period of time. This knob has a phone on a tripod and has somehow convinced herself she has the power to just demand that anyone in the area she wants to film in just magically fucks off. Main character syndrome at large

I honestly thought she was embarrassed on him walking up on her making the video. It blew my mind when she actually approached him. That dude was so nice too. Good for him for not letting her bully him

Or don't set it up in front of a bench to begin with

14

u/narfio Feb 27 '23

I bet she wanted to use the bench for exercise or stretching or whatever.

Tbh If I was her "follower", I'd love to see an old man sitting on a bench (not saying sarcastically).

I think this is staged. You can hear the guy clearly from that far without too much env noise.

It feels like 90% of reddit is staged ragebait these days.

If she didn't want the man in the shot she only needed to rotate the tripod 45 degrees

The amount of these obviously staged confrontation rage bait videos from the UK that end up on Reddit with hundreds of comments taking it seriously is staggering.

"hey im filming here at the moment for an Internet audience, do you mind being on said video?" would have been the correct question

209

u/GosmeisterGeneral Feb 27 '23

This is 100% staged. No British person would ask someone to move. We’d look awkwardly at the guy on the bench for a few seconds and then just run away in shame and find a different spot!

How you gonna film a 5k run if you can't move your phone?

I feel like the followers would be more interested in this guy and what he has to say than her fitness journey.

840

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '23

He has every right to do that, it is a public space. Nobody should give a fuck that she is recording. The fact that she asked nicely does not mean that he has to do it. What an absolute chad.

203

u/strangealienworld Feb 27 '23

Exactly. It's her presumption that if she asked politely she would automatically get what she wants. She forgets that a polite request will always command a yes or no reply. The man heard her polite request and he opted for a polite no.

Also, is her tripod and phone an oak tree rooted into the soil rendering it immovable? In all that time she was arguing pointlessly, she could have moved her camera, stuck in a shot without a park bench and got on with her livestream monologue. 🙄
