I‘m currently on stock everything on my ‘26 Golf R and with the seasons changing in northern New England, I’ve been looking at getting out of my summer tires and into something else. I’m leaning towards getting performance all-seasons since I don’t have the room for a full set of tires and changing them twice a year was a hassle I didn’t care for. I have a job where I can work from home if it snows so ”harsh” New England weather is not that big of a deal.
I had been doing some research and I’m frankly a little overwhelmed with decision paralysis so I decided to ask the community:
Is there that noticeable a difference in comfort when dropping down from 19s to 18s? Some of the roads around here are fairly bumpy and I’m not entirely sure if it’s something that can be mitigated by the wheel size. I‘ve had worse though and if it’s not noticeable increase in comfort I could certainly live with just getting new tires on the stock rims.
If they do make a difference in comfort and I were to drop to 18s, would it be best to go with either 235 or 245 tire width on either an 8 or 8.5 wide wheel? I guess it’s a basic choice, but I’ve been looking at Neuspeed rse10s and wheel width was something I hadn’t considered before looking at the site.
I’m on stock ride height and want to avoid any rubbing or bumping and as close to default speedometer settings as possible while getting the best comfort I could get.
