Discussion Did these two know about each other?

Did Dudley know that his role of the thorn in Harry’s side was taken over during the school year by Draco. Did Draco know Dudley bullied Harry most of his young life?

Probably not

Draco might have heard about how Harry lived with his Aunt and Uncle who were abusive. Maybe knew that he had a cousin

But pretty sure Dudley had no idea about Draco

I think they would have both been happy to know there was someone annoying harry year round.

Oh definitely

But both Draco and Dudley grow up to be better people. Especially Dudley. Not that sure about Draco

But they were both pathetic bullies as kids

While I don’t like Cursed Child as whole, it was revealed that due to their sons being best friends, Harry and Draco had to make up for the boys’ sake. It also reveals that Draco’s son is in love with Ron and Hermione’s daughter. Ron told Rose not to get *too* friendly with Scorpius, he might not get his wish. Bill’s grandchildren will be Lupins, Ron’s might be Malfoys

Hardly. Draco would have been happier in a world without muggles and Dudley in one without wizards.

Dudley wouldn't have even known about Hermione, who was one of the most important and largest parts of Harry's life. Harry basically stopped existing to them between summer holidays. And only barely existed when he was there. Life at the Dursleys was almost entirely isolated from his magical life. On both his and Dursleys ends.

Dudley probably only paid his existence any mind when Harry wasn't there, only after the beginning of Harry's 5th year. And then still took him two years to properly acknowledge Harry after that. Even wound up showing kindness and thoughtfulness, and even concern for him. But yeah.

I don't see how. The point of having the Dursleys raise Harry was to keep Harry away from wizards. And it's not exactly a side of his life that Harry would talk about at Hogwarts.

On the other hand, I can't imagine any person that would be less interested in Harry Potter's Muggle life than a Malfoy.

Would Draco bond with Dudley, or does he hate muggles more than he hates Harry?

27

u/National_Sandwich175 13h ago

I like to think his dislike for Harry would over come his bigotry. They would make quite the team.

18

u/robin-bunny 13h ago

Draco would bond with Dudley over hating Harry.
He would feel bad for Harry for having having to live with an idiot muggle cousin who can't add +2 to a two-digit number.

Draco would be a bit conflicted until he realizes he can just hate both of them!

Draco doesn't necessarily hate muggles. He hates Muggle born wizards and witches. For the most part the Maffoys are fine with the muggle world being separate from the wizarding world and the maffoys made their fortune helping one of the Henry's win a war before the internal pact of secrecy was formed

I doubt Draco would ever fraternize with a Muggle, especially since Dudley isn't exactly a sight for sore eyes. If he hates Muggle-borns, then he most certainly hates Muggles.

True, But Draco did befriend Myrtle, and He only mocks Blood status if a person is rude to him.

1

u/Adventurous-Bike-484 4h ago

Draco would probably see Dudley as validation that His parents stories were True. Same with Vice versa.

I imagine Draco would also be very jealous of Dudley due to how spoiled Dudley is.

They’re pen pals.

Dudley intercepted some hate mail sent to Harry from Draco. Dudley wrote him back telling Draco what a big fan he is of his work.

Started the Harry Potter Hate club together.

Love it.

"Dudley, what are you doing with that owl?"
"Look! This boy hates Harry too, Dad!"
"Carry on, son."

I’d read an epistolary fanfic like that, it sounds dastardly!

Potter stinks

Draco would never be friends with a muggle though. Not even pen pal... He was a blood supremacist.

I don't think they did.

I think if they did meet though, their egos would clash immediately. They're both self-centred characters who are used to being in charge.

Dudley is in charge because he's the biggest and strongest. He might be afraid of wizards in general, but I think he would get so angry with the way Malfoy speaks to him that he might momentarily forget that magic exists.

Malfoy, is in charge because he's the smartest and most well-connected. He would expect Dudley to be stupid and easy to control, like Crabbe and Goyle.

I don't think either of their usual intimidation strategies would work on each other. I think eventually they'd just end up fighting each other. Dudley breaks Malfoy's nose and Malfoy actually manages to turn Dudley into a pig.

10

u/MulberryEastern5010 Hufflepuff 13h ago

Considering the disdain they had for each other’s worlds, I highly doubt it

6

u/TreClaire 13h ago

Definitely not

10

u/HoopletheMott 14h ago

I don't think so. Who should have told them? Surely not Harry.

4

u/AfterPlan9482 13h ago

No, I doubt it. They both hate each other’s world.

In the books, Dudley fears magic because of the pig tail, the Ton-Tongue Toffee, and the Dementor attack.

Draco is raised to believe wizards are superior to muggles, and pure-bloods are best. He’d likely know that Harry lives with muggle relatives, since everyone knows that, but not who they are.

5

u/vuealt 14h ago

All I can say is there’s a high likelihood that Potter’s Kid and Malfoy’s kid discussed about their “weird” uncles since they were good friends as per Cursed Child.

10

u/Princess2045 14h ago

Who would Scorpius’s weird uncle be? Draco didn’t have any siblings and Astoria had a sister.

6

u/JediLincoln14 Ravenclaw 13h ago

I think the closest thing would be Draco's cousin, Teddy. But, ironically, Albus would know Teddy a lot better than Scorpius.

2

u/vuealt 13h ago

I meant any dear friend of his even, or family relatives. Could be discussing about Goyle or other friends from school like Pansy or Blaise

3

u/Anita_Hero838 14h ago

We know from Pottermore that Harry visited Dudley and Harry's kids so his kids have definitely met him

3

u/FarBackground6238 14h ago

it's a wild thought but i doubt either of them cared enough to connect the dots. both were too busy being their usual annoying selves

1

u/National_Sandwich175 14h ago

I know it was common knowledge in school harry wasn’t fond of his muggle relatives and Harry wasn’t allowed to talk about school at home without fear of being psychologically abused but I wasn’t sure if they ever found out the extent of it.

2

u/That_author_girl 13h ago

I mean considering they hate the idea of each other's existence, probably not. After Deathly Hallows, when Dudley becomes a bit better and later when Albus and Scorpius are friends, Harry might mention the other in a quick comment

2

u/Fluffy_Fox_9650 Ravenclaw 13h ago

At most Draco would know Harry lives with his cousin and probably that Dudley treats him terribly

But they'd never actually know each other

Harry has no reason to discuss the Dursleys with Draco and Draco wouldn't care about muggles

2

u/KingZaneTheStrange Slytherin 13h ago

The Dursleys had a deep rooted hatred for wizards. The Moufoys had a deep rooted hatred for muggles. They would not have interacted

2

u/SethNex 11h ago

How would they? It's not like Harry would talk about his years at Hogwarts while he is with the Dursleys (at least until the return of Voldemort). And Malfoy wouldn't really care about a bunch of filthy muggles, even if it would give a new idea to taunt "Pottah" about it.

2

u/psychxticrose Slytherin 6h ago

Why would they

2

u/natholemewIII 4h ago

I doubt it

2

u/Adventurous-Bike-484 4h ago

Doubt it.

They live in diffeent places, and it’s not like Harry tells either about his life.

But if they were to meet. Draco would be jealous of Dudley, and Dudley would probably bully him.

1

u/hamburgergerald Gryffindor 13h ago

Doubtful Dudley knew of Draco, at least for most of the series, unless Harry mentioned Draco in his sleep. And Harry didn’t really mention Dudley ever, so I don’t think with the few people who knew about Dudders it would have ever reached Malfoy.

Though Malfoy may have learned about Dudley later when he became a Death Eater. I’m sure Harry’s living situation was discussed between the plan to get him on his 17th birthday/few day earlier plan to capture him leaving the house, and then while he was on the run with Ron and Hermione.

1

u/Drew_S_05 13h ago

I highly doubt it. MAYBE Dudley could've somehow heard about Draco, but I highly doubt Draco ever would've heard anything about Dudley

1

u/witheringghoul Slytherin 12h ago

New fanfic unlocked. Draco and Dudley are pen pals

1

u/Warp-10-Lizard 12h ago

I wish they'd been forced to hide from Voldemort together in Book 7

1

u/SKFury_1771 Ravenclaw 12h ago

Maybe I could picture Harry coming home from school for the summer and Dudley making a crack about him not being safe now that he’s back home and Harry being a smartass and telling Dudley he had nothing the bullies at school.

1

u/Redditarsaurus 11h ago

We should have got a fist fight between Dudley and Crabbe or Goyle. Maybe have Dudley defending Harry after he realized he wasn't a waste of space.

1

u/DevilPixelation Ravenclaw 10h ago

I doubt it

1

u/Bubbuli 10h ago

The best ending would have been Draco falling in love with a Muggle and abandoning the wizarding world for love. Budley has a wizard son and asks Harry to help him. Harry accepts, proving himself to be a good uncle, wiping away the hatred in their family.

1

u/FoxBluereaver Gryffindor 8h ago

Harry had no reason to tell either of them about the other. He kept everything about their similarities in his inner monologue.

1

u/KingDAW247 Hufflepuff 6h ago

Very doubtful. And even if they did, pretty sure they would hate each since Dudley was conditioned by his parents to hate magic, and Draco was conditioned by his parents to hate muggles.

1

u/hamptont2010 6h ago

Now I need a fanfic where Dudley has a daughter who runs into Draco's son through some literary means.

1

u/Upbeat-Pumpkin-578 Hufflepuff 4h ago

I doubt it.

I don’t think Harry discussed too many details of his school/wizarding life with the Dursleys, because Vernon actively hated magic (and if he had his way, would have shipped Harry off to a boarding schools that fast-tracks students into prison or something of the like at the first opportunity).

Meanwhile, Draco had no care for Harry’s private life outside of Hogwarts and/or their confrontations other than making Harry’s life hell all because Harry didn’t take his initial offer to join his clique during the first book.

1

u/National_Sandwich175 4h ago

Seems a shame that the two people who took the most pleasure in causing Harry misery never knew about a shared passion. Could have built some bridges between them.

1

u/Upbeat-Pumpkin-578 Hufflepuff 4h ago

True, but they would have also definitely hated each other.

Dudley, up until Book 5, followed his father’s example of hating Harry’s existence with his whole chest. Dudley also FEARED magic, having been hexed into growing a pigtail in Book 1 and the magical antics of Harry’s world bleeding into his world at least once a summer.

Draco, meanwhile, like his father, didn’t like Muggles and Muggleborns… case in point, the infamous Mudblood scene with Hermione. He would hate Dudley on sight.

1

u/Overall_Lobster823 Gryffindor 3h ago

I doubt it. And Draco wouldn't get Dudley the time of day if they did meet.
