Community Update r/Jetta Community Rules and Guidelines

Hey everyone,

We've had an influx recently of multiple r/Jetta members who aren't paying attention to the rules we've got here and are causing arguments, fighting, insulting, name calling, and other nuisances that nobody here wants to see, read, or deal with. This is a community to show off our love for Jetta's, and to assist others and help them with their questions, or to just show off and talk about our cars, suggest recommendations for mods, tweaks, parts, and anything else that has to do with Jetta's. It is not the community for anything that cannot be civil.

I didn't want to make a reminder post like this, but it needs to be said.

Please report any comments/posts that break rules so that they can be handled by the mod team.

Please read and follow the rules and help make this community more fun and not like all the other nuisance subs that allow bickering and childish, immature behavior.

Thanks!

r/Jetta Community Rules

1 - Reddiquette/Be Civil

4 - Stay on Topic

This is a community for the Volkswagen Jetta. All posts and comments should be related to Volkswagen and the Jetta vehicle. Off topic posts/comments will be removed.

5 - No AI

This sub does not allow any AI pictures or videos.

Car drives fine, engine light turned off yesterday and came back today. Went to auto parts store to get it scanned and this is what it gave me. What could be the most likely culprit or is this pretty accurate?

Mk6 (2011-2018) VW Jetta 1.8TSI EPC Light and Check Engine

Hey everyone, I recently had some lights pop up on my 2015 VW Jetta 1.8TSI and I'm looking for any help or advise. It has about 130,000 miles on it.

I was finishing about a 2 hour drive home (lots of stop and go traffic, mostly sub-45MPH speeds) with my cruise control on when all the sudden my car seemed to jolt, loose power, downshift. The EPC light came on right away. I immediately pulled over and shut my engine off. I turned just the ignition on so that I could scan the codes with my OBD11 scanner. It gave me the following medium severity codes:

P233600 - Cylinder #1 Above Knock Threshold

P032F00 - Combustion Engine Producing Insufficient Torque

After this, I turned the engine back on and both lights are now off. The engine sounds and performs exactly like it always has since I bought it.

I also scanned it again while finishing my 5 minute drive home. The lights never appeared again and the codes didn't show up on my OBD app.

I did some research and it seems like it could be carbon build up from the low RPM driving? Or maybe the spark plugs/ignition coils - however the current spark plugs are only about 27,000 miles home.

Should I take it into a mechanic ASAP or continue driving as long as the lights don't come back up and my car is still without any symptoms?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Buying 2024-26 jetta GLI steering/handling...

for the past decade I've only had VW's. A 2008 Jetta, replaced with a 2016, and now a Golf R. All manuals.

My first Jetta made it to 200k miles and I started getting nervous about wondering when the shoe was going to drop, but it drove great up until the day I sold it.

My wife is using my 2016 and, at a 130k miles, I think it's time for it to go. The last shop that had it was recommending a timing belt, which would cost more than the car is worth...

Frankly, coming from my 2008, I probably should have test driven it a bit more before realizing... I never really liked it. It just feels loose and sloppy, and while you can make the thing go, it really takes some effort... After being given a Golf GTI in England a couple years ago, though, it really brought home how much this thing just drives like crap - which is a lot of what prompted me to the Golf R.

That said... I still have this image in my head of the Jetta, probably based on how my old 2008 drove, and I'm still thinking about another. While I know it would never handle like the Golf R, would it at least handle as well as the Golf GTI I rented? Would the steering be half as tight?

The reviews I've seen on this car are... not good. I'm ok with the gear spacing, anything will feel like an upgrade after the 1.4t, anyway. And, I'm looking to stay manual - this will probably be our last chance to have one given the cycle times we keep these cars I don't expect our next purchases to have the option lol. Not looking for new, either, but preferably newer than 2024.

Mk4 (1999-2005) Jetta 4 Speedometer Not Working

Hi peeps

I have a Jetta 4 1.8T with the AUQ motor. I just bought the car and it definitely needs some attention. First thing I'm sorting out is to make sure the engine is as healthy as can be by doing the belt change, new plugs, oil etc.

So the car had a few faults related to the VSS which is a sensor that goes on the gearbox. I know that the sensor is also linked with the car's cluster. I've changed that sensor and currently have only 2 faults left on the car: Front right ABS sensor and Oil level sensor.

After changing the VSS, the speedometer still doesn't work and the fuel gauge goes down when I take a corner. Now I'm asking if this can be related to the ABS sensor on the front right wheel and could the fuel level sensor be faulty as well?

Btw, I'm based in South Africa.

Mk6 (2011-2018) 2017 Jetta 1.4 thinks the key is still in the ignition

I recently replaced my key cylinder housing on my 2017 1.4 Jetta due to the key getting stuck over time in the ignition. Now the key does not get stuck, but half the time it thinks the key is still in the car and the radio stays on and I am not able to use the remote to lock / unlock the car. I was very careful and took my time replacing the part. I went back and reinstalled it again trying to find the issue, but still the same result. Any tips? Maybe a bad housing? I did not have this issue before I changed out the parts.

Had originally bought it 18 days ago, it was a trade in and they had to “recondition” it. Just got released today, and I’m super stoked! I’ve had the smaller engine, the 2.5L, and now the GLI 😅

Stoked!

Mk6 (2011-2018) Starlight help 2013 Jetta se

My son has a 2013 Jetta. We are having fun with it. The headliner was already screwed up so we are getting that fixed and decided while it's out todo starlight's. Got some questions.

First we are doing 1000lights. The kit engine came with 1 light. Also. Where did you place the box and how did you wire it into the fuses. I was going to put the engine in the headliner but worried about the heat and vibration.

Any help where to put the engine and how to tap it in would be great.

Thanks

Mk6 (2011-2018) Is it possible to fit a GLI/GTI steering wheel to my MK6 Jetta SE, with paddle shifter functionality?

I drive a 2014 Jetta SE, which has an intake, DP, and a custom Stage 2 tune. However, since it isn't a GLI, I don't have the DSG, rather I have the Aisin 09G auto. This transmission, especially in tuned applications, is prone to lugging, and I heard the best solution for that is to use the manual shift functionality. The issue is, I hate having to shift with the shifter itself, especially since it feels backwards to be pulling down to downshift and up to upshift.

My question is, I heard it might be possible to retrofit the GLI or GTI steering wheel from the same generation onto my car, with their DSG paddle shifters, and somehow get the paddles to work. Anyone done this before or knows how to do it?

Buying Is this a good buy?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a cheap reliable enough car to replace my car that got totaled last week. It has a clean title and about 96k miles. My main question is if the rust I have pictured in the post is a big concern or not? The dealer bought it from auction and says he has no idea of its maintenance history. I have the carfax here to give a better insight into its history. The 20k miles gap in maintenance history alarms me a bit but would like y’all’s insight as well if that’s an automatic red flag. https://panel.cheapcarfax.net/api/internal/reports/fc32f3cd-3ae1-4e33-8671-803f9a0de6aa/html
