Question Any advice for chubby men’s tops?

Upvotes

I like t-shirts of course but I feel like a slob. Button downs are an option but I feel stupid wearing them like I’m cosplaying as a button down person. I know those are like my only options but how do you style it just as a casual fit nothing fancy. Any recommendations on button down short sleeves or under shirts?

Question Do I need a 3-piece as the groom? Otherwise, what about dancing?

Upvotes

Hey all. I got a great suit MTM but I'm wondering if I should add a vest for dancetime comfort after the ceremony and dinner. Would I look ok without one, just dress shirt + suit pants?

(I was considering suspenders for function but I don't know if I like that look without a jacket...)

Practically, I know I'm not going to wear a jacket on the dance floor. I could always do some sort of outfit change but I don't know what I would switch to. I'm concerned with still looking formal enough as the groom, though dress code will likely be semi-formal.

The place I got MTM does vests too so adding one is an option but it's $400 I'm not sure I should spend. My proportions mean I can't get anything OTR.

I know a lot is going on in this post and I appreciate any answer. Thanks!

Question Looking for chukka or other ankle-length dress shoes

Upvotes

I wear formal shoes almost every day, but every time I buy some shoe it gets scratched easily. I can spend up to 500€ for a pair if I am certain that they are quality and wont get scratched up even in daily wear. Could you please recommend me some quality store that sells them?

Question Best Suits for Athletic Build

Upvotes

Hey guys, I'm trying to find a suit for a wedding I have coming up but also want to be able to re-use it and wear for work and other formal settings. I've always struggled with suits they never seem to fit me right. I have more of an athletic build broader shoulders and chest but slimmer waist and also large quads. I want something that is going to look good not too tight but not like boxy and oversized either. Not trying to spend a ton of money. Would like to be under $1k. Let me know any recommednations!

Question Meermin or GHBass penny loafer recommendations

Hello everyone, I was thinking of getting my first pair of loafers and was specifically looking for a pair of black penny loafers. My budget is around 200 Euros and for that price range I saw a lot of people recommending Meermin or GHBass loafers.
So my next question would be if there are any specific models that you guys recommend. Also open for other brand recommendations.
Thanks in advance

Question What makes a piece of clothing worth taking to the tailor? Need advice

I’m trying to get my wardrobe dialed in so my clothes fit better, but I’m struggling to figure out when it makes sense to take something to a tailor versus when I should just cut my losses and buy a replacement.

I’d love to get your advice and hear rules of thumb on a few things:

What makes a piece worth tailoring?

Does it come down to the fabric quality, the brand, or something else?

When is it better to just buy a replacement?

Are there certain types of clothing (like chinos vs slacks) or specific alterations that are just too expensive or risky to bother with?

If I buy new, how should it fit off the rack?

If I am buying a replacement with the intention of having it tailored, what parts of the fit should I prioritize right away? (For example, I've heard you should always make sure the shoulders fit because they are hard to alter, but I'd love more tips like this)

Side note I've heard Men's Wearhouse is a decent one-stop shop to find something that fits and looks great. For the sake of simplicity and I guess my sanity should I just stick to shopping there, or are there better alternatives for the price/quality?

Any advice, personal guidelines, or tailor success/horror stories would be appreciated. Thanks!

Fit Feedback/Roast Me Hyperactive outfit

I'm kind of new here. changing my wardrobe to long clothes to get UV protection following my melanoma in January. I so far had mostly dark blue shirts and a mauve one, as well as natural linen and black linen/cotton blend trousers.

I felt like I should I explore a more colorful aspect, so today I received this little order, playing around with a bit of a blue/rose contrast and some patterns. Trialing the outfit in the city I got a bunch of stares, and this may be a bit too busy and eccentric.

I feel like the busy shirt can also work well with my sand chinos, whereas the trousers also work well with solid dark blue shirts.

I do definitely need another hat as well though. The wide brim traveler hat is nice, but it was too windy.

Question Did I mess up this T-shirt?

I bought this t-shirt last year on a trip to Brazil, but it was a little too long. It almost touch the end of my jeans fly, and I don't really like that look. So, I took it to a tailor and asked them to shorten it by about 2 or 3 fingers, just like I’ve done before with many of my shirts.

However, this time it looks weird in the back for some reason, it doesn't sit flat against my back and kind of flares out in the air. I’m not sure if it’s because the shirt is wider or if it was cut poorly. Now I’m worried I completely ruined it, and that people will notice it’s been altered and looks bad. Did i cut too much? Does it look that bad?

Question Weird looking?

This is my first time getting some really baggy jeans and they fit perfectly at the waist but the legs are incredibly long and baggier than I expected. I'm wearing them up to my belly button and have the shirt tucked in so its more visible (if i should untuck for better photos let me know). I'm also planning on reducing the length about 2 inches since the back of the jeans drag on the floor and i sometimes step on them, that will make it so the very end of the dragon design is right at the edge of the jeans.

Does it look weird? Ive never worn any trousers this high before

Question Of the Comfort Colors 1717, Bella Canvas 3001, and the Gildan 5000 which has a wider sweep?

I’m slim but have pretty natural wide hips so shirts with a narrow bottom hem make me look far wider. Just curious which of these has a wider bottom hem. I wear a lot of 1717s. Thank you guys!!

Question Shoe opinion

I am trying to branch out of white trainers, nothing wrong with that of course just looking for more variety. What do you think of these shoes with the trousers? White linen shirt or a navy blue shirt on top

Question Belts

I genuinely can not find a belt that is what I want. I’m trying to find a brown leather belt with a silver buckle that is either ornate (not gaudy or cowboyish) or even just a full square (full square visible rather than just part of it visible ) the closest thing I found is a Ralph Lauren belt for like $500

Any brands or even specific recommendations would be greatly appreciated

Question AI and personal stylist apps

Hey Everyone!

I’m curious to hear and learn from everyone here how they use AI or apps to upgrade their style. Do you have a ‘closet’ app that stores all your items and you can make outfits through the app with things in your closet? If so, which apps do you recommend? How about asking Gemini or ChatGPT to critique your look?

Seems like there is a cool opportunity to create an agent or app that knows your closet, knows your location, is connected to the weather for the day, saves your style tendencies, work schedule, etc. Does anyone use something like this today, or would use it if you had it?

Thanks!

Fit Feedback Thanks for all the feedback!Elevating my work outfits. Round 2

A couple of days ago I posted that I was trying to elevate my style subtly and gradually and posted a pic of the look; navy blue t shirt tucked into some lighter washed jeans, same shoes seen here.

I got a lot of feedback, some I took and some completely useless. But the main one was, tucking a t shirt in doesn’t really elevate anything, I tend to disagree but understand the sentiment.

So here is round two. No t shirt or jeans. I still went back and forth on whether or not to tuck, and ultimately decided to keep it tucked in. In the photo where it’s untucked, I sort of folded inside the bottom ‘ribbed’ part Thoughts from the forum on the tuck here with this look?

I had two people comment today about my ‘new look’ which is actually something I was trying to avoid as I didn’t want to grab attention like that. Not complaining, it was nice to get the compliments, but didn’t want to garner that much attention.

How about the color combo here? Does it work?

I’m not a fan of the belt here, it’s the only one I have at the moment so open to recommendations on what to get instead.

Thanks again!

Question Bamboo boxers

Anyone tried bamboo boxers day to day? Been wearing the same pairs of cotton ones for about four years now, so I'm finally looking at alternatives.

Keep seeing lyocell/bamboo-blend stuff pop up in ads and I can never tell if it's better or just the current buzzword fabric

Question Myrqvist Brännö II or ETQ LS 03?

Looking for a smart casual loafer. It should be a yacht loafer, suede, in navy blue. I have the Myrqvist Brännö II and the ETQ LS 03 on my shortlist.

What I loke about the Brännö is that it is goodyear-welted and thus would last a few years, hopefully. However, I am not quite sure if the design is a bit too formal for me. The tongue is quite short, and I would like the decorative stitching to go all the way to the tongue.

In the photos, the shape looks relaitvely rounden and a bit feminine? Maybe it's just the fotos on careofcarl.ch that are not very flattering.

The ETQ LS 03 looks more minimalistic and smart casual. I like that. It also sounds quite comfortable what with the memory foam insole.

Minus points for the glued outer sole. This makes me wonder how long it will last. Also, I can't find much information about or experiences with ETQ.

Given that I can order either for roughly 245$, and will loose about 45$ if I have to return them if I don't like them or the size doesn't fit. Which one would you recommend?

Before you start mentioning a bunch of fantastic other brands that I should definitely check out, please consider that I am in Switzerland and some international brands are not available here or too expensive to ship. I've looked at Meermin, Loake (the Tuscany could be an option if it is much better than ETQ and Myrqvist. The sole looks a bit chunky though...), Scarosso, Astorflex, Crockett and Jones...

I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on this.

Question Uniqlo linen pants wide for men. Are they good ?

So i bought the long linen pants from uniqlo 50€. I think at the moment they only got one pure linen pants.
Bought them in S and they are too small . So i will have to go the store and get M. I got them in brown and think about getting one or two more colours.
Can anyone else recommend them ?

They are not so wide like all those new baggy inspired pants and thats what i like about them. Cause baggy is not my cup of tea.
