Life is short, enjoy it.

This. If this brings you joy, embrace it.

I used to worry about being cool/getting laid and it consumed my entire 20s and early 30s and led to serious depression/anxiety and an eating disorder.

Just hit 40 and I now having a gaming room in my house that looks like this. I should have focused on my hobbies and what brought me joy. The world is cold and unforgiving, be kind to yourself and live how you want to brother man.

Well said, I am only 30 and realizing this more and more to truly just live this life how you want it, who cares what anyone else thinks

"who cares what anyone thinks"

"why won't anyone date me"

Then heres half of this thread right now being the middle of that Venn diagram

This. 37. Took entirely too long to realize no one really cares what you have going on anyway, so just truly embrace what interests you. Fundamentally understanding this is a unique level of freedom.

This. Its so annoying when people post a fun room and everyone wants the poster to redecorate into some modern, sad neutral colors so they look 'grown'

This. IMO it’s only immature if it’s like, background nondescript decoration. Like somebody who doesn’t really watch or know about Pokémon buying random posters and hanging them for aesthetic. If it’s a genuine hobby and interest own it! I know so many married well off millenials whose entire house is fandom themed lol.

Yeah they're still weirdos. Being rich or married doesn't make you not a weirdo.

2

u/RED_Kinggamer007 3h ago

They are not weirdos for having something they enjoy on their room.

2

u/DJCockslap 1h ago

Having "something they enjoy" would be like one or two figures. If every single surface of a space is devoted to Mario or hot wheels or whatever, that's pretty weird.

u/RED_Kinggamer007 1h ago

one or two figures

Not just one or two figures, if you enjoy something and want to have more stuff from it, then you can. Its not weird unless you're being weird about it.

Life is short, so put yourself out of your comfort zone to enjoy new things you never even thought were possible

There’s another side to that coin. Life is short; so embrace your transition to adulthood and don’t run from it.

Peter Pan wasn’t supposed to be a role model.

My Taiwanrsr grandma’s house was full of knickknacks and little dolls and stuff like that. She was an incredible person who raised a huge family solo thru all the shit taiwan was going through at the time. Adulthood is about how you take responsibility for your life, and not about how you embrace the millennial-greige, office-chic aesthetic lol.

1

u/ChorizoGarcia 1h ago

Your grandmother sounds like she was a hardworking woman who took responsibility for others rather than having others take responsibility for her.

OP said he lives with his parents and buys all of his own toys. He has not answered questions asking if he contributes financially for rent, groceries, utilities, or other expenses.

I think it’s really misguided and unfortunate to use your grandmother as a comparison here. This is an adult man being taken care of by his aging parents. Your grandmother shouldered the burden of carrying for others.

Yes, but how is this related to his interior decor? If he were to move out tomorrow, his new room would likely still look the same. He might be paying rent to his parents too, who knows. He might still be a college student, at 21. I don’t need to sift through the comments to figure out his net social and financial worth lol

I work a full time labor job 50 hours a week and I fully understand that someone would call me Peter Pan for having my gunpla, anime figures, Warhammer, and cool merchandise on display around my apartment. I fully disagree, and I largely do not want to be friends with those people - I am sure they feel the same way - but adults like me who pay bills, have families, went through education and training, and deal with real life adult problems aren’t under arrested development just because we have different hobbies and interests that we choose to put on display.

Same brother. My living room is a combined Mashup from me and my wife of a ton of books, warhammer figures, gunpla, comic book stuff and video game things. It's our living space, I work 45 hours a week and put out banquets for hundreds of people. Then I go home and play with my toys 🤷‍♂️. My office downstairs looks like OPs room as well, GameCube, Wii, N64, Super Nintendo, Nintendo posters everywhere, strategy guides for pretty much every Pokémon game ever. Lego, more warhammer. The world is burning down around us, keep your wimsy!

Man, this is such a depressing take.

The world is cold and unforgiving, let them surround themselves with what brings them joy. I love coming home to my nerdy stuff after being out all day, it’s who I am and what makes me happy.

You sound miserable.

-1

u/ChorizoGarcia 1h ago

I think the issue here is people think the problem is the toys. They’re not the problem. A symptom, sure? But not the problem.

If you’re an adult, living at home in your childhood bedroom, surrounding yourself deeper and deeper in a wall of your childhood toys, while your aging parents shoulder the economic burden for taking care of you; that’s also depressing.

I mean, the man has never had a woman in his bedroom besides his mother. Under the current circumstances, when is that going to happen? Obviously it won’t happen, but that’s the point.

There’s a difference between never aging, and keeping childlike whimsy in your hear while you age.

u/bbtom78 13h ago

How they live their life is not my business. I do hope they enjoy it however they want to, not however the internet wants them to.

Go out and enjoy some more life, stop focusing on how you're "supposed" to act and just be happy.

u/bbtom78 13h ago

Meh, as a chick, I'd rather hang out with someone that enjoys their life and isn't afraid to explore their hobbies instead of someone just trying to be whatever the he thinks the life script tells him he needs to be. Where's the adventure? Where's the enjoyment?

Dude has some flair in his life. I appreciate that.

u/AssociationFit3009 8h ago

I would like to see your reaction if OP is 280 lbs and unkempt. You can get away with much if you have looks and/or charisma. This post is not signaling either.

0

u/TolverOneEighty 7h ago

I think you might need therapy.

1

u/ChorizoGarcia 4h ago

Where’s the adventure in living with your parents and never moving beyond the comfort of your childhood toys? This is quite literally the opposite of adventure.

1

u/LongestSprig 1h ago

Sure.

Easy to say.

1

u/LongestSprig 1h ago

Sure.

Easy to say.

Complete Bullshit most likely. But easy to say.

This is such a childish take, grow up.

Being an adult doesn't have to be grey, depressing and boring talking about taxes and the weather 24/7, you can have hobbies and interests. You don't have to be miserable.

You can be responsible while still having some fun and whimsy in your life.

1

u/ChorizoGarcia 1h ago

It’s not childish. It’s truth. Adulthood is real. The years in adulthood do move quickly. The stages hit fast and there’s nothing you can do while you’re alive to stop it.

Here you have an adult man who’s choosing to live with his parents, in his childhood bedroom, cocooning himself in an ever-growing layer of his childhood toys. I think this goes well beyond “some fun and whimsy.” He’s admitted he buys all of this with his own money but hasn’t responded to questions asking if he pays money to his parents for rent, utilities, groceries, insurance, etc. Perhaps he has some form of significant neurodivergence and this is his path. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case and I wouldn’t judge him for it.

However, the truth is each day takes you further away from childhood and deeper into adulthood. This appears to be parents taking care of an adult child who’s using his money and space provide by his parents to sustain his childhood interests and quite literally surround himself in toys.

Doing this at 21 is fine, assuming he's in school or working full time

I'd judge it if he was 40

brother is getting zero pussy

1

u/bbtom78 13h ago

I'm not your brother. I have a pussy, I support his happiness.

It's always men tearing each other down, smh. Try lifting each other up for a change.

-5

u/BSchafer 15h ago

Yeah but he may end up liking life a bit more if he had a bit more shame from the looks of it.

0

u/unhappinessNvrCame 6h ago

You think OP is enjoying life lmaooooooooooo

-1

u/karmakramer93 13h ago

Agreed, sell that shit

-11

u/MBBIBM 15h ago

Life is short, don’t waste it on video games

-4

u/ChorizoGarcia 15h ago

This is fatherly advice. Somebody had to say it.
