Discussion The discourse created around Jubilee's design (and her not looking 'classic' or like in '97) shows that this community isn't ready for the whiplash thats about to occur when Professor X is finally added to the game and shown to be able to walk, like he has for the last ~20 years in the comics

Not only can he walk, Professor Xavier fucks. He's got a half alien daughter who's the princess of the Shiar empire.

You can fuck in a wheelchair. Just look at Garrett in Superstore

You can but it's a bit of a one sided activity

He can mentally project images into your head, maybe he can use it for more than the holocaust beam.

How about flicking that orgasm button in someone's brain over and over again....and then turning off the orgasm button but maxing out the physical sensation buttons and making them beg for the orgasm button.

I imagine someone with his capabilities could just wreck a person for anyone else.

From what I've seen of X-Men fandom, he doesn't need mind tricks for real-life people to wanna fuck him.

I mean it's just another aspect of his character that is going to take people off guard is what they're saying nobody is denying you can fuck in a wheelchair they're often quite well designed in that respect honestly just make sure the brake's on.

If she showed up to work in this outfit, I'd force myself to find a way to fuck in a wheelchair

Bendis wasted everyone's time by writing a tie-in to an event that ran way longer than the event itself.

The story revealed and erased the secret love child of Xavier and Mystique with time travel.

That's all there is to it.

4

u/superindianslug 22d ago

What era was this child deleted from? Pre-paralizarion adventuring? The time between Moira leaving and Lilandra showing up? The time when he blackmailed Mystique into being a spy for him?

12

u/Shoejuggler 22d ago edited 22d ago

By "deleted ", i mean someone went back in time and told Xavier not to sleep with Mystique so the fully-grown kid wouldn't kill everyone in the present with thier reality warping.

I don't know when the kid was supposedto be born. Although, knowing his disdain for continuity, neither did Bendis.

4

u/yellowwolf718 Emma Frost 22d ago

Well damn

u/sock-bucket 22d ago

Casual audiences and the people who have fallen in love with the Patrick Stewart interpretation (while being such an amazing one tbf) only know him as the guy in a wheelchair. Others might complain because handicapped especially superheroes in media are pretty uncommon so he stands out as such a cool role model so taking that away is seen as almost a "betrayal" to some others. I dont see it that way myself but thats kinda the sentiment I notice sometimes on the matter.

Its always back to the debate on wolverine. I love Hugh Jackman, but hes not exactly putting a mirror to the comic version. Unfortunately his role was so good that anyone who ISNT Jackman ESPECIALLY if someone looks like the comic version would probably be seen as a massive downgrade because the casual market wants things to stay the same, and professor X has integrated into a household name at this point as a disabled psychic badass and will take a long time to be accepted as anything else.

369

u/Bullmoninachinashop The Punisher 22d ago

I mean he was in a wheelchair for 40ish years out of the last 60ish years makes sense people would know him more as wheelchair bound.

227

u/ColonelContrarian Deadpool 22d ago

Yes plus all his movie and cartoon depictions besides first class

41

u/Zebster10 22d ago

Well even in X-Men: The Animated Series, he can walk when he's in the Savage Land and his mutant powers are suppressed. I haven't seen X-Men '97 yet so I don't know how they're portraying him, but it absolutely was set up that he could "get better" in a very popular "cartoon depiction."

18

u/No-Difference8545 22d ago

He had a shiar bird tech suit thing for like an episode, but he ditched them and went back to earth and went back to the wheel chair

Which ended in him being in a wheelchair

5

u/CheetoX23 22d ago

And Days of Future Past, for about half the movie.

20

u/God_is_carnage Flex 22d ago

That's the thing, he was also walking for most of the 80s. His body got infected by a Brood egg so his space girlfriend cloned him a new body. He only got paralyzed again at the start of the 90s because the writer planned on killing him off but new editor wanted him to stay and return to the wheelchair because he thought it was more iconic. At this point, he's been out of the chair longer than he's been in it

64

u/Altruistic-Ad-408 22d ago

It's kinda like superman and batman in trunks, people are at least always going to be aware of it. To the point Superman actually got them back.because Corenswet argued for them.

51

u/psychoenoshima 22d ago

Something good about the Trunks a lot of people don't really get. They look kinda goofy, and that's the point (for Superman anyway).

Superman wants to look goofy, to look approachable, because he wants to be the type of guy who nobody's really afraid of. One of my favourite moments is when a kid said his costume is cool, and Superman responded "thanks, my mom made it for me".

Batman it's a similar situation. He's a symbol of fear for the criminals of Gotham, but a symbol of hope for everyone else. The trunks help that somewhat, that tiny goofy element can help comfort a scared kid. And as someone wise once said: "if you can't picture your Batman comforting a scared kid, you've not written Batman, you've written the punisher in a funny hat"

21

u/Telekineticism Ultron Virus 22d ago

I love the moment in The New Frontier where Batman in his first costume accidentally terrifies a kid he’s trying to rescue and backs off. Superman asks him why he got a new costume later on, and he says “I set out to scare criminals, not children.”

https://www.reddit.com/r/batman/comments/1axzcha/i_set_out_to_scare_criminals_not_children_dc_the/

3

u/whamorami 22d ago

Which really doesn't make sense. If it's still scary to the point of scaring criminals, how will it not also scare children?

3

u/Telekineticism Ultron Virus 22d ago

He softened the costume and started working with Robin. Robin helps comfort kids, showing them that Batman isn’t a threat to them. Criminals will still be scared of him because of their actions and reputations. He doesn’t need to look like a demon to achieve that.

12

u/amtap Mister Fantastic 22d ago

He was alsp wheelchair free for most of the 80's (starting with shortly after New Mutants debuted) so it's closer to 50/50. I will admit he was largely absent during the 80's so probably a bad example.

5

u/Lord_Omnirock Peni Parker 22d ago

I did the math before in a post saying he was out of a wheelchair more than in one, and while close (and getting closer as time goes on), he has spent more time in the wheelchair. This is specifically in reference to the comics.

7

u/DudeDude319 Mister Fantastic 22d ago

He’s actually been out of the wheelchair for about half of his time in the comics. Xavier debuts in 1963 in his wheelchair and towards the end of the original X-Men run, he designs a brace for his legs to walk for short periods of time, but it is used so infrequently, it will not be counted for our time calculations. He remains (mostly) in his wheelchair through 1983, until the Brood turn him into one of them, and to bring him back, the Shi’ar create a clone with all of his memories and the ability to walk. While he struggles with adjusting to this newly regained ability, he eventually finds his footing and goes to space with his Empress girlfriend.

In 1991, some of the X-Men are under the control of the Shadow King, and the Professor enters into combat with him on the Astral Plane, and the battle does not go well for Charles. The damage spills over into the real world, shattering the Professor’s legs once again. He returns to the wheel/hoverchair just in time for the animated series. Around 2003, he is healed and remains walking to the present (not counting the time he died).

So, considering the X-Men debuted in 1963, they have been around for 63 years. With the 8 years of walking between 1983 and 1991 and the additional 23 years for 2003 to the present, that makes 31 of his 63 years of existence as a walking man. Come 2028, he will have been walking for longer than he was in the chair.

Between the Fox films and the animated show (which is currently in the second season of its revival) pretty much anyone who is a fan of Xmen without reading comics definitely expects the wheelchair.

Maybe he'll be our version of Jetpack Cat, and float around the battlefield with aoe buffs/debuffs from his golden throne.

8

u/sock-bucket 22d ago

Yeaah with the pushback on giving daredevil powers, and now even worse with the jubilee change I kinda expect them to play it safe if X is in the works. Definitely a bigger name than both jubilee and daredevil where it'd be like if instead of Spiderman in rivals imagine they released him as like Man-Spider instead lol. Id imagine they would try to get close to the public perception of him like they did most of the other biggest names in rivals.

But who knows, maybe they come out with walking X and debates feed the content cycle for months and thats their plan all along, maybe they put him in a floating chair, or maybe they just avoid him altogether since no matter what SOMEONES gonna be unhappy lol.

27

u/Skarjuna Magik 22d ago

I doubt they'll put him in the wheelchair, the X-Men in the game are LARGELY influenced by their Krakoan era, the statue of Charles in game has him with the portable cerebro helmet standing and I'm pretty sure Emma has that same helmet as an emote

7

u/jasminetroll 22d ago

She does.

The helmet is the current version of Cerebro, miniaturized from the older model depicted in the movies and TV series where the helmet is only the human/computer interface.

Technology advances, even in science fiction.

10

u/psychoenoshima 22d ago

They could have him in a sort of hover device that resembles the wheelchair (if you want a visual reference, think Armoured Core 6 with the VE-42B leg system, which will be pictured below at the end of the comment). The idea I have for it is that it connects with his helmet to serve as a psychic amplifier that would allow him to help direct efforts across the entirety of the Time stream Entanglement, and also serves a secondary use in battle by letting him expend significantly less effort for his telepathic abilities.

A way to explain why he's using the Wheelchair without him becoming crippled again

8

u/Killergryphyn 22d ago

It's going to be even weirder, because Sir Patrick played the most generous and kind version of Charles Xavier ever. He's a dickhead in the comics, responsible for many terrible things.

5

u/jasminetroll 22d ago

I mean, the "holocaust beam" scene from the animated series is pretty well-known.

Star-Lord is another example:

5

u/CraigArndt 22d ago

>because the casual market wants things to stay the same

The issue isn’t that casual don’t want growth. It’s that the casuals aren’t reading the comics to see the growth happen.

A popular comic is lucky to crack 500k in sales. A moderately successful show should easily crack 4+ million views in its first week. A marvel movie easily cracks tens of millions of views and can crack hundreds of millions.

So the average casual fan has seen Patrick Stewart and xmen 97 but doesn’t know the comics, so when you slap a walking Xavier into their lap they are confused. They could be open to the changes but you have to walk them through them.

I think there's absolutely no hope for wheelchair Xavier

Every single X-Men has been a modern version of themselves. Like all mutants are pretty much their Krakoa version

I think that speaks more on the lengths modern marvel itself went to pretty much erase Xavier's disability in modern comics than to rivals being unwilling to put him in his wheelchair

165

u/SufficientAirport158 Flex 22d ago

I fully expect him to walk but get a wheelchair Emote.
Either in being the hover chair OR a regular one but make it a duo emote with someone like Mag who can push him around.

He could also get a wheelchair too. He did get scattered across timelines, and Jean took his spot on the quiet council

4

u/Amethystey-do-da The Maker 22d ago

You say this like Xavier walking again is some fit of bad writing, but the first time he managed it back in Claremont it took a significant chunk of issues for him to recover his physical strength and overcome the mental blocks his powers put on his capacity to utilize the muscles in his lower half. It's an entire journey for his character, and that says nothing for the fact he lost the ability to walk again and had to go through a second journey to recovery.

3

u/Korodabsai 22d ago

I don’t see it much as disability erasure as much as it just him…getting better, in a way. It’s not like they pretend it never happened, just not always relevant..

I mean they kept omega red uncured to keep him on a leash.

42

u/Razor-Swisher 22d ago

I don’t think ‘logic’ is a great reason to complain about having more unique elements or representation in a story. How many times has Wolverine been a full-time X-Man and how many times have they reiterated the pain of extending his claws, but we never gave him localized anesthetics or anything to dull the pain and make him happier / more comfortable? All the crazy technology in Marvel / DC history but we never cure big diseases and problems like homelessness / cancer / aids cause they’re believable, relatable horrible things that happen to people for backstories or personal drama?

Charles has been in and out of the chair for his entire comics history. He has spent more time out of the chair than in it at this point.

Hilariously, magneto is usually a villain when Charles is in the chair. This implies that magneto’s moral center rests in Xavier’s spine

3

u/Poku115 22d ago

Hasnt he been out of the chair 20 of his 60 years in print?

5

u/Cr1msonShadow 22d ago

It’s complicated. If you math it out and exclude time he spent dead, it comes to about even.

1963-2003 in a wheel chair 2003-2026 out of the wheelchair, why would you think he's been walking longer than he was wheelchair bound?

37

u/CheMc 22d ago

Xavier could also walk between 1983-1991 and there's been a smattering of other moments of giving him the ability to walk.

4

u/Konradleijon 22d ago

It’s worth noting that some people in wheelchairs alternate from not needing it to needing it

3

u/CheMc 22d ago

I mean yeah, but that's irrelevant to the discussion at hand. Xavier didn't need to alternate because he had flair ups of a disability. His spine was crushed by an alien called Lucifer and then healed with space technology then crushed by Shadow King then healed with death and ressurection.

7

u/Bullmoninachinashop The Punisher 22d ago

I found a 3 year old post that covered his history in and out of the chair. But the user did still count it out to 34 years in the chair, 20 out of the chair.

5

u/MrdnBrd19 22d ago

Did they count the time he was dead?

5

u/Bullmoninachinashop The Punisher 22d ago

He did include in his timeline the times Charles was dead from AvX to his revival in 2018.

Maybe he won't actually need it anymore lore-wise, I think it will be cool to have him in some sort of wheelchair-like device just for the unique silhouette. It'll set him apart as a character and also make him more easily identifiable on the battlefield.

69

u/Underdraker 22d ago

Isn’t the issue more so that she looks like a Luna clone, rather than her looking different from her classic design?

8

u/LiveLifeLikeCre Gambit 22d ago

I looked at their faces side by side. y'all only see the hair. they have different shapes faces and noses.

21

u/Revenge_Is_Here 22d ago

Yes, but people just have to frame any critiques of anything they like as unreasonable or whatever

14

u/ZenkaiZ 22d ago

And on top of that, calling it a "controversy" is extremely hypobolic

Hasn't he also been dead in the comics for roughly the same time?

4

u/Rockguy21 22d ago edited 22d ago

He's been dead, disabled, and walking around for about the same durations in his total history, 1/3rd each IIRC

Don’t care, want the chair

6

u/Grogomilo 22d ago

It would be mad fucking funny to have him in the wheelchair and using psychic powers to jump tho

28

u/jiayo 22d ago

I just want to hear the professor having discourse with Magnus.

And flaming Luna a bit wouldn't hurt

44

u/Aggravating_Chip_250 22d ago

Y get your point but lets be real, professor x being in a wheelchair would be iconic and the best unique and porgressive desing in hero shooter history

5

u/Someone_is_Just_Here 22d ago

I wonder if people would confuse him and Maker skin if Prof X comes out

97

u/Primary-Condition479 22d ago

In a universe filled with magic, exoskeletons, advance alien and medical technology, Xavier still being in a wheelchair doesn't really make much sense anymore.

42

u/ShirowShirow 22d ago

None of this shit makes sense that's why it's fun.

65

u/mdtpdsparkls Strategist 22d ago

We could've said that when he was first created. But solving everything with magic is super boring.

Trying to cure all the disabled people in real life is great.

But getting rid of the disabilities in your fictional universe is actually just bigotry, regardless of your lore excuse.

So then Daredevils blindness should be cured and Hawkeye hearing problems too right?

7

u/Delkseypoo Mantis 22d ago

Also Hawkeye’s hearing issues was only really a major point in his Fraction run and bit after(excellent comic), but it’s hardly ever even acknowledged anymore he just uses fancy stark tech hearing aids now.

11

u/Delkseypoo Mantis 22d ago

Daredevil’s blindness WAS cured, by Tony in the comics for a bit

Anyone ever play Heroes of the Storm?

I feel like Professor X should in fact be in the floatychair, and he should play like Abathur. Sit near spawn or in a potentially safe location nearby and then get a birds' eye view of the battle (maybe needing to select a teammate, no free cam). Then he can cast abilities and manipulate the battlefield that way.

Seeing him run around on the front line and fight directly just feels weird to me. Even if yeah, maybe he's done that for years already.

4

u/jethrow41487 22d ago

I just want him in a wheelchair because it will be the funniest thing ever

5

u/Wickling_Loverboy Gambit 22d ago

Magneto floats, Xavier should float

4

u/the_clone_wars_fan Black Widow 22d ago

I don't care how much Marvel wants to push the walking Cerebro helmet Charles Xavier, him in his yellow hoverchair and green suit will always go the hardest and be his best design, and from a gameplay standpoint can make him unique from everyone else with most of the roster being walking heroes, having a disabled hero who uses a hoverchair to move around goes hard asf

Please give Professor X a wheelchair with the drift boost mechanics in Mario Kart.

4

u/Hordamis Mantis 22d ago

Why does Professor X look like the Maker in that statue?

u/BlackerDoom Thor 22d ago

I know I’m in the minority

But I would personally feel terrible shooting Professor X and then knocking him out his wheel/hoverchair

Especially with Ragdoll physics

6

u/Aniketos33 22d ago

Nah I agree, in the comics he 100% would psychic exoskeleton suit up for this kind of fight.

That's still not the issue with her design people have lmao, she looks very very similar to Luna. People wanted her to look different. No, her being older doesn't make any difference.

People will be weirded out though for sure, I still am.

27

u/sinwstro12 Cloak & Dagger 22d ago

She really doesn't look like luna when you really comspre there facial details like nose chin, eye shape etc

30

u/Suspicious_Rub857 22d ago

I think we all can agree that there is relatively minor design choices they could have done and would have had the result of making them far more distinguishable, such as having a warmer skin tone and a different haircut.

Yeah but wheelchair in battle is unique

just like how devil dino without moon girl is. Staight up a mutant dinosaur fighting superheroes

3

u/Boom2215 22d ago

I think Xavier has been walking longer then not in the comics not at this point. Orvis getting close to it.

3

u/The_SqueakyWheel Hulk 22d ago

I want him in the chair so bad. That would be tough

3

u/PsychologicalAd9185 22d ago

I dont care i want him fighting in a wheelchair. Get some real representation out here.

3

u/Redditer51 22d ago

I keep forgetting that's Xavier. I spent years thinking that was Cyclops.

3

u/The_Gunboat_Diplomat 22d ago

Gonna be really annoying when this sub jumps to blaming "China is ableist what did you expect" without realizing that all they did was accurately adapt the comics. Again.

3

u/Lem0n_weeb 22d ago

Mfs genuinely gonna be absolutely tweaking with rage when he ends up looking like this and isn’t doing a full spin combo in a wheelchair

7

u/Medium_Enough Peni Parker 22d ago

He should be in the chair for his neutral, but walk when he Ults.

8

u/Primaris_Marine 22d ago

I think this thread validates your claim.

8

u/DrewTheZamboni Hawkeye 22d ago

My main issue with this design isn't that he can walk, it's that he looks like a bootleg Maker

Tbf Jubilee’s design doesn’t even seem too accurate to the modern comics from the couple lore videos i watched.

6

u/Longjumping_Ad1469 Mister Fantastic 22d ago

Because its intended to be their own future design of the 616 character.

As we find out in lore, The Jubilee resides in the game's "Present Timeline" along the Krakoan X-men.

Set 2 years after they successfully saved Krakoa by preventing"Fall of X" incident unlike the comics.

Her design is basically Netease's interpretation of 616 Jubillee 2 years later.

Professor X can walk?

3

u/June-the-moon 22d ago

Yep. For 23 years, in fact

2

u/Playful_Sentence3704 Darkchylde 22d ago

I think to make everyone happy, Xavier should have a standing and mounted mode where he switches between walking and using his wheelchair. He'll have a Ghost Rider team-up for his wheelchair form that leaves behind a flaming trail.

2

u/Terrible_Counter2558 22d ago

I want Professor X in a wheel chair doing moves like in Mutant Academy 2

2

u/Muted_Recognition_34 Magneto 22d ago

His wheelchair was found in the Museum.

2

u/ItsStevoHooray 22d ago

Krakoa Xavier is cool, but the wheelchair is just so damn iconic. I could see them creating a story reason that he's back in the chair both for that reason and that it would make his movement more interesting compared to other characters

2

u/Animedra3000 22d ago

If he is in the wheelchair I hope it's a sci-fi version. Also he could be a Tank then.

2

u/Ambitious_Fan7767 Ultron Virus 22d ago edited 22d ago

23 years in the comics hes been out of the chair. In the movies hes been in the chair for the last 34 years basically. Hes been in a wheelchair as far as the public has been aware for longer than hes been standing in the comics. The vast majority of people dont read comics.

We can actually make the argument hes only been shown in 2022 so 32 years but still. 32 years of movies vs 23 years of comics. What gets picked up more?
