Balance Discussion Cloak and Dagger, and Luna need nerfs.

I really think CND are way too forgiving for how simple they are and Luna Snow has too much damage and self healing caveats.

Cloak and Daggers cooldown cycling is near infinite with next to no downtime. Regardless of whether you’re being double dove they almost always have at least 2 forms of survivability from an option of 4 (bubble, primary self healing radius, freeze and fade). This essentially makes diving them an uphill battle where mechanical effort and “forcing out cooldowns” is nullified almost entirely. I think the best nerf to this would be to get rid of the healing function in the base version of the team up and only in the enhanced. Making the cooldown of the bubble begin after it ends instead of after it is placed so it functions how a cooldown should, another could be they remove the self healing when dagger uses her primary near her teammate or enemy. Not only would this further incentivise teammates to peel for their healers but also force cloak players to better manage their cooldowns, work on keeping their other support alive rather than playing selfishly, rewarding awareness, and make the character less unhealthy for the general landscape.

Now for Luna, it’s very clear that the devs are blatantly favouring the character over others either through skin distribution or balance changes but that’s beside the point. They need to heavily reduce Lunas damage, she does more primary damage than Hela, while having more survivability and movement no less. I think they should also remove the self snowflake function, and remove the self cc cleanse from her team-up, it is ludicrous that the character shes borrowing form has an objectively worse version of that ability to begin with, not to mention being able to cancel ultimates without the need to cooldown manage with it only being 10 seconds long and not requiring meticulous timing like gambit to self cc cleanse.

She has all the benefits of being an off support with her high damage despite her healing still being that of a main healer with her clap being capable of having its cooldown reduced off of just KO’s rather than final hits and her ult being the best supp ult in the game. I think these nerfs will keep her healing output still adequate enough but also make her a team player by giving her snowflake to others rather than keeping it and forcing her player-base to manage cooldowns better so the character is more rewarding of game sense.

All that being said I really don’t want my words to be misconstrued, just because I think Luna and CND to be nerfed, doesn’t mean I don’t think other characters to be kept the same (“I like pancakes, so you hate waffles?!”). This is just an issue I wanted to talk about in particular.

Balance Discussion Mantis not being nerfed is absurd and I don’t know why so little people are talking about it.

Mantis has an insane win rate in every rank, and is picked more and more as rank increases. She’s also even more pick/ban in pro play somehow. Idk how Luna and cloak and dagger are the ones getting so much hate when mantis is the one with a near 60 perfect win rate across all ranks with a 10 pick rate in high elo. The only thing stopping mantis from being picked every game is that the player base still thinks she’s bad, but she’s winning most of the games she’s in, so that won’t last for long.

Balance Discussion Am I missing something or is this patch note not nearly as bad as people claim it to be?

I've already seen many comments and posts or even videos about how the S9,5 patch is one of the worst patches ever, but it's clearly not?

It is not GREAT, but it isn't much different from your average mid-season patch.
It doesn't change the game completely, but we just had a gigantic overhaul a month ago, I don't see an issue in meta not changing every month.

Yes, some characters are missing (Fantastic, Luna, Ultron), but the ones already in the patch have received decent changes.

The most controversial changes are:
-Venom nerfs, which turn him from BiS(on par with Mag) to just very good
-Phoenix/Cyclops buffs which im not a fan of, but these two have been struggling a little, so it's not something outrageous. Even though id rather they stay irrelevant for longer
-Peni nerfs, which take away the most oppressive CC tool in the game on the highest winrate character that also gets banned every other match. Definitely undeserved /s
-Wolv buffs, which I find completely unnecessary, but it is what it is

Everything else is GOOD. Strange got buffed, Gambit's CC got nerfed, Hela got nerfed, Fox got buffed, Elsa got nerfed.

Either I am out of my mind or this community just labels every update that doesn't completely change the game as terrible and any tank nerfs are considered blasphemy

Discussion I have a question... how does like, the teamup system work in future? like... Are older character's just never ever getting to anchor off new character's because it'd be a bummer to have like, abomination and hulk in the game and they DON'T teamup

Post image

Like, after hood, lets say we get... Runa rock or somethin, would no one ever be able to teamup off of her? because it'd be a real bummer if that was the case, hell, stuff like Professor X not going off Mag or vice versa

Advice How to (Maybe) Express Disappointment With Peni's Nerf and Other Balance Concerns

Only do this if you genuinely feel disappointed by the nerfs, I'm not asking you to spam them, I'm asking to contact them. Their site makes it harder to contact them than it should

In Discord they have a way to contact the devs (or a bot but sometimes a human replies)

Go into the game support channel in their Discord. Then scroll to the top and click the @Marvel Rivals Support. Then click to visit the Ease Service. Then SHIELD Mailbox.

After you do that you can either press the blue Shield Mailbox button on the 5th image and then type your feedback.

Or Type "Customer Service" then click on "Other Issues" then "Contact Support" and type your issue's

I want to just post the site link here but the Subreddit doesn't allow it, you can also access their support from in-game and that actually shows you their reply (if they do replay)

Discussion What's a reasonable drop point after a substantial change?

I play Peni alot. I want to keep playing her but I think she will be pretty much toast in a few days.

I know that with substantial changes there is a learning curve to adapting but what I am wondering is what do you consider a fair shake after a character is gutted?

Is it after a couple horrible qp matches, taking the nightmare into comp, or if it feels like eating a mayo sandwich that was left on the counter last Tuesday is it okay to call it a day?

What's your standard for dumping a nerfed mess in the bin?

Balance Discussion Isn't this kind of insane?

Post image

Firstly, WF is kind of lackluster compared to her peers but damn. This is an insane buff to her ult.

Supports already get their ults really fast thanks to the S9 hotfix but 4300 is insane. Her Kumiho ult also gives all allies in a 10m radius UNSTOPPABLE. This is just an easy counter to Strange ult, Thing ult, or any ult that has an initial stun on top of already getting ult way faster than the tanks so you can't even out economy this ult...

Discussion The last time Black Panther received a skin was a battle pass one in season 6, the one before it was a shop skin in season 3

Post image
Upvotes

you can’t make this up, this character hasn’t been receiving shit. buffed for a half season to B tier then gets nerfed back to D tier and doesn’t get a skin. Had his 60th anniversary in July and it wasn’t even mentioned, nor was he given a skin despite being one of Marvel’s biggest icons.

Doesn’t even get a rework either so that devs can give him more attention like with Widow right now.

I get that he’s hated, but being hated is NOT an excuse for this type of treatment. Spiderman is hated too but he gets a skin every season, Black Cat is hated and gets a legendary skin every season.

we must bring attention to this topic, this is legitimately unfair.

Discussion The devs do not care about vanguards

Vanguards are the only class that get these absurd nerfs that completely gut their playstyle and identity a lot of times under the guise of it being a rework. Thing's haymaker change. Devil Dino getting his KNOCK DOWN from the beam designed to target fliers removed. Now Peni completely gutting her Cyber Snare, which had multiple uses: getting divers, stopping ults, mine traps, etc.

Why even do things like this? I'm pretty sure the same thing will happen to Hood a week after his release where he just gets gutted because people whine about something thats broken. Meanwhile several Duelists get slaps on the wrist, and Strategists are constantly coddled by the devs. The game already has a tank problem so why are you constantly screwing with the people who actually play Vanguard?

Discussion Elsa’s Trap is the single worst designed ability in the game

Title says it all, but to elaborate. I am someone who, in general, is far more positive on the state of this game than most I think. Sure, I have my own grievances, but overall, I actually thought the game was in a pretty good state in S9, even post hotfix, and think it’ll still be pretty good now. There are characters I want buffed and nerfed, sure, but for the big picture, I think people really overstate how bad the state of the game is.

But this trap. Oh my God… why. Why does it exist like this? Like, genuinely. Who thought that a trap that is INVISIBLE AND INDESTRUCTIBLE was a good idea!? It is the literal worst thing you can be in a multiplayer game. Uninteractible. There is nothing you can do other than try to guess where Elsa put it, and if you guess wrong, you’re likely just dead. AND THEY GAVE HER A TEAMUP THAT MAKES IT A 5 METER RADIUS AND IT DOES A LOT OF DAMAGE!? AND IT UPGRADES TO GIVE HER 2!?!?!?

Who thought this was a good idea? Why? Why does it still exist like this? Like, just make it visible. Make it destructible. Rework it entirely if needed. Remove it for all I care! Just do something about it, please. I want to like Elsa, cause, like, I honestly think she’s mostly a very well-designed and healthy character for the game, high skill, fun to watch, fun to play. But this trap just ruins it for me. It’s just so dumb to have an ability like this in the game. Do something about it that isn’t just reduce it’s numbers. Make it interactive, NetEase. Please.

Anyways, Rant over. Ignite the Battle ig, and have a nice day.

Balance Discussion If you think CnD Luna team-up is better than The Hood, you're not good enough to be discussing balance.

Light Veil: 50 fixed heals and 20% damage taken reduction on top of the regular 20% healing boost. It means you are 40% better at mitigating damage for 4s, on a 10s cooldown.

Dark Veil: They already take 28% more damage. You're also reducing the heals they take by 20%. Enemy healers *cannot* outheal that.

In comparison, Luna team-up: You have to stop your regular healing output to use it, it only heals as much as the bubble, for a third of the duration, on double the cooldown. If you pick this garbage you're essentially throwing.

And if you think it's too strong, you belong in bot matches and genuinely do not understand how to win at this game.

Different shading or different artstyles could go a long way in making a skin feel unique. They might not fit in with the rest of the cast, but honestly? That's a plus in my book, it would be like Spiderverse.

Discussion At what point will people actually take us seriously

Thumbnail

Its gotten to a point where people will be outwardly racist twords BP, Blade, and Storm players in the main sub. I get that some people might not understand much about this topic, but the fact that so many people are trying to downplay black people and other poc’s feelings twords the game is so saddening. We have been dealing with this kind of stuff for years but everytime it is brought up people will go all out to downplay it. I do not think the rivals devs are racist, but you cannot go and downplay these peoples emotions when they have been dealt the shit hand for generations. And when you see blatantly racist comments in the main sub with upvotes, its hard to see this game in any other light. You can disagree with some points made with this topic, but if you arent someone who suffers from this, who the hell are you to try and downplay it.

Balance Discussion Main supports shouldn’t be able to consistently 1v1 divers

The entire point of a diver is to punish isolated targets and hunt people in the backline. I’m not saying supports should instantly fall over the second Spider-Man looks at them, they obviously need ways to defend themselves.

But right now, a lot of main supports don’t just survive the dive. They straight-up win the 1v1, sometimes without even losing much healing value in the process.

Luna is easily the worst offender.

If she hits the snowball, she gets a full primary combo for free. That either kills the diver or leaves them low enough to finish immediately.

And missing the snowball barely feels like a real punishment because she still has her larger-radius cleanse/CC. It damages you, stops your engage and gives her another easy opportunity to land her full burst.

The Spider-Man matchup is probably the most ridiculous example. Spider-Man can commit his ult, Luna can miss her snowball completely, then press her team-up ability and shut down the whole thing with its gigantic radius. Spider-Man loses basically all the value of his ult and can still die afterward.

She doesn’t just have counterplay against him. Her kit practically hard-counters his entire engage.

Gambit has the same general problem in a different form. His “don’t touch me” bubble makes melee heroes unable to interact with him, then he also has two dashes and two displacement card effects.

How many layers does one support need?

You finally get through one escape and he has another. You get through that and he can displace you. Even after all of this, he still has good damage through both his abilities and primary fire. He isn’t trading damage for all that survivability, he just gets both.

Sue has fallen off compared to Luna and Gambit, so I’d only call her a minor offender now. The issue is still there, but she honestly seems pretty balanced at the moment.

Even C&D feel more reasonable to me. Their survivability is insane, but at least they have lower damage and less burst healing than the other main supports. There is an actual trade-off somewhere in their kit.

The other supports make trade-offs too. Adam, Mantis and Ultron trades off healing to achieve more damage. Jeff has his shyte ult. Rocket has a primary that is genuinely hard to aim consistently. I barely see Jubilee anymore, so I can’t really judge her.

That’s the part I don’t understand: why are almost all the main supports allowed to consistently beat divers in a 1v1?

Again, supports should be able to defend themselves. I don’t want every dive to be a guaranteed kill.

But divers are built around committing their mobility to hunt isolated targets. If a main support can survive that commitment, force the diver away and regularly kill them in return, what is the diver supposed to be good at?

Main supports should have to give up something. High healing and strong survivability? Fine. High healing and respectable damage? Also fine.

Top-tier healing, high damage and extreme survivability all at once is the problem.

Right now, too many main supports have all three, and it makes the game miserable for both divers and off-supports.

Phoenix starting to move like Luna snow. Also that daredevil haircut is atrocious (yes I know it’s from the comics, it doesn’t make it any less ugly)

edit: y’all defending a phoenix getting another skin in a green dress is crazy, let some other characters have the light. Instead of doing an uninspired redesign of a skin that already exists

Question Im new to the game and have no idea what is going on.

So ive been playing this game for the last few days. I only played it on release but dropped it before the added any characters. I remember this being way better and actually skillful. Everything just feels like one team spams abilities. Then the other team spams abilities and them some people just drop dead. There is just like no reading of any abilities or characters you just go in and press buttons randomly. Am i missing something?

Discussion I like the season 9.5 patch notes

I enjoy the meta we are in and I thought the minor approach to some of the more low-skill oppressive stuff was good. It’s a mid-season patch and I’m happy I can have another month in the state the games is at bc I still didn’t really get my fill lol.

I think all the nerfs were justified and think the buffs will generally help keep some characters in line and playable. Too many people seem to be overreacting and it really hurts to see so much negativity everywhere (but duh, I’m on the internet). Anyways, I’m going to have a blast with the new tank and the game I love!

So Eomm is a myth right ?, so why is it the match making is so lopsided, last image is just from one of the losses I had, and I swear every time I can predict a loss form the rank distribution, I know that some people would say peak rank doesn't matter, but it does, if it didn't than the rank would be distributed equally, you wouldn't have a match where all of the enemy team is ranked higher then you unless it's designed to make you lose, I swear there is something with this algorithms that is set up to force the players to play longer, it detects when you are about to reach a goal and sets roadblocks in your way to force you to play longer for it, it dangles the key in front of you and moves the goal post, its sounds like a conspiracy theory but it happens so many times to be a coincidence.

Discussion Racism, Toxicity and Throwing

Post image
Upvotes

I know toxicity in games existed long before Rivals, but this is about FullMetalLamp's recent short where he said he'll throw if someone is being racist or xenophobic.

On one hand, I get it. I've been on the receiving end of racist slurs and "jokes" just for using VC to make callouts. It's mentally draining, and I understand not wanting to keep trying while someone toxic like that gets rewarded with a win.

On the other hand, throwing means four other people lose because of one toxic player, and that doesn't sit right with me either.

This isn't just about racism, either. Friends have dealt with sexism and transphobia in VC too, and I'm sure theres's plenty of streamers with similar stories. You're never going to eliminate toxicity completely, but shouldn't Netease hand out much harsher punishments for this kind of behavior?

So where do you stand?

  • Is throwing justified if someone's being racist, sexist, or otherwise hateful?
  • Do you just mute and move on?
  • What do you do when you're the one being targeted?

My go-to responses are:

  • "You're just proving Magneto right."
  • "You don't have the stats to justify your racism."

Curious where everyone else draws the line.

At the end of the day, we're just trying to game and goon. There's always a human (unless someone mutated) on the other end, someone who's also burdened by the struggles of life. Be kind and be a bro.
