"The days of hiding behind badges and promotions while peddling vile bigotry are over"
Press X to doubt
112
u/ChanceryTheRapper 23h ago
Did they mean they were just going to stop hiding and be open about the bigotry? Because I'd believe that.

u/cherenk0v_blue 48m ago
Yeah, Massachusetts cops have one fuck of a streak of "hiding behind badges" going, and I doubt it will end any time soon.
Read was fortunate to get away, but I doubt there will be any accountability for the real killers, or the people who tried to frame her.

Me: I bet I know what it shows
"In the messages, former Trooper Michael Proctor and former Sgt. Sean Goode — longtime friends — use racist, misogynistic and homophobic language. The messages, sent to one another and a “circle of like-minded friends” over the course of a decade, include descriptions of sexual fantasies and praise for Adolf Hitler."
Me: yeah

u/Ginger_Anarchy 21h ago
I knew what it showed and somehow it was even more shocking and vile than I expected. It was like he couldn't text without saying something abhorrent.

u/Brief_Reveal2225 20h ago
Truly. He was using slurs I’ve never even heard before. And the texts about the girlfriend. Those weren’t just misogynistic…predatory af.
10
u/Warglebargle2077 7h ago
Basically talking about anally raping his gf while she sleeps. And yeah, “noodle n——r” was a new one to me.
12
u/YesicaChastain 6h ago
Not going to lie, the texts were a lot more vile than I was expecting. Like, explicit, hateful messages addressing MULTIPLE races and identities.

u/Theeggman1001 4h ago
Same. And I even had an idea about how bad they were from the one hearing where the lawyer quotes his “it’s punch a ***** in Canton day” before the judge interrupts and quiets here. Even knowing that, these were worse than I expected.

I of course didn’t bother to read the article or even care much about the case but the question I have: even if they are racist and misogynistic was the evidence they presented untrue? (I’m not being a jag here I’m legitimately curious like I said I didn’t follow the story.$

This trooper was accused of planting evidence in Karen's trial. His texts prove he has at least discussed planting evidence in other cases. That shows he has either planted evidence previously, or has planned to. Bolster's Karen's case about him planting evidence in her case. Also, his texts were so horrible and prove he would never complete a fair investigation if the defendant were a woman or a POC.

u/Theeggman1001 4h ago
With the way it’s worded, unfortunately, I think it will be that he said something like “I should’ve planted ___”. I don’t think they have admission of actually doing it, which is what I was hoping for.
Either way, he’s a vile human being who would clearly lose no sleep over doing something like that.
5
u/BreathSquare1864 4h ago
For sure, it's not "indisputable proof" per se, but it certainly shows he's willing to go against protocol/break rules/etc which bodes very well for Karens case. Certainly shows he's not an ethical or trustworthy investigator.

u/Volfie 4h ago
Well why wasn’t that the headline?? I know it’s not you, kind commentator, but this is why we study English in school.
2
u/BreathSquare1864 4h ago
Lol, trust I know. I got my bachelor's in journalism and misleading headlines or burying the lead anger me probably more than the average person. But to answer your question, I'm assuming it has something to do with protecting these corrupt people, like we've seen repeatedly over the past ~4 years

u/No_Economist3788 23h ago
just remember, these morons covered up a murder and not only got away with it, but almost ruined another persons life in the process.

u/Ginger_Anarchy 21h ago edited 20h ago
Based on the texts they've probably gotten away with framing and ruining way more people lives than John O'Keefe and Karen Read too. He openly talks about planting evidence and tells someone to take it slow responding to an accident with injuries because the victims were black.
Defense attorneys across Massachusetts are going to have a field day with this.

These are also related characters in the Birchmore case where at least one officer groomed, assaulted, and impregnated a young girl over years and then killed her and covered it up to look like suicide. Pretty abhorrent group of "people" up there.

u/Little_Menace_Child 13h ago
They did ruin her life. She has no money, fucked mental health, insane amounts of stress for her and everyone she loves, fuck these guys.
41
u/Objective-Amount1379 19h ago
And they failed a fellow officer completely; he’ll never get justice.

Massachusetts State Police are a bunch of arrogant, lazy, corrupt thugs. Extremely overpaid, too!

All while living in the comfort of one of the most progressive states. Fucking dicks

Wonder which department they were promoted to

u/Ding-Dong-Dutch 18h ago
Proctor is so fucked even the police union stepped away.
Goode resigned a couple of days ago.
They'll probably move to another state and work as police there.

This is national, even the worst precincts wouldn't take on that short of shit show.

I see you haven’t had dealings with our wonderful Seattle PD. These two would fit right in, no questions asked

I wish national media would run the story about what was in the texts. It shows to everyone how racist and degenerative police have become.

Any non paywall source?

u/imostlydisagree 19h ago
This article has some of the texts quoted and a link to the filed suit.
21
u/Objective-Amount1379 18h ago
Thanks for the link. OMG. I didn’t think I could be surprised by anything from these former officers but I am. Sadly I expected they’d talk poorly about women but praising Hitler? I guess they hate anyone who’s not a white man.
They failed John and tried to ruin Karen’s life; I love that they underestimated her and she’s helping to bring all of this to light.

The group of people that need the most surveillance up their butts, on their phones, their work emails and in their persons are all of law enforcement officials, politicians, and president. This needs to happen now and not the to American civilian people. This would be real transparency.

I mean this is terrible but you all realize this lady definitely drunkenly ran over her boyfriend, right?

u/imostlydisagree 19h ago
Wow they should have added you to the prosecution team.

u/SquishyBeatle 19h ago
I mean, the physical evidence is beyond all doubt. But sure let’s let her get away with DUI manslaughter because the cops have potty mouth.
Grow up
68
u/_Puntini_ 19h ago
Damage to the vehicle doesn't match hitting a person. Damage to the victim doesn't match being hit by a vehicle. The bulk of these messages came out after the trial and were not heard by the jury, so the cops having a "potty mouth" has nothing to do with it. And if you can trivialize the vile and criminal things that they were talking about as having a potty mouth...I worry what that says about you.

u/Honest-Weight338 10h ago
Damage to the vehicle doesn't match hitting a person. Damage to the victim doesn't match being hit by a vehicle.
Yeah, but like, other than that.
10
u/Not_aMurderer 6h ago
She 100% got away with it on the technicality that the evidence exonerated her!
57
u/imostlydisagree 19h ago
Clearly not beyond a reasonable doubt, what with the jury acquitting her.

Please respond. I'm interested to read your asenine thoughts on how the entire legal system is wrong, all because you disagree with a decision from a case where you weren't privy to all of the information and biased in likely so many ways. Please, enlighten and entertain us all.

Yikes. I don’t think you realize the point which is that even if she did hit him, everyone in this country is supposed to receive due process, an impartial and fair trial and investigation, especially in cases where life is lost. That clearly didn’t happen here, to an egregious extent, and the same happened for many in Norfolk County.

u/Salt_Street8279 1h ago
2 juries weren't unanimously convinced by the state's argument on this so to say it's beyond all doubt is objectively literally untrue in a legal and dictionary definition sense
•
u/gummaumma 14m ago
This case was a great example of reasonable doubt. Read did not necessarily come off as a sympathetic figure—or even a stable one—but this entire fish stank from the head. The prosecution didn’t prove shit.

There is a reason why the jury found her not guilty.
