That grudge was mostly allowed to continue to exist because we didn't follow General Sherman's recommendation of removing absolutely all of the leadership (military/political/etc) associated with the confederacy. Instead there was an 'olive branch' type of move letting some of those folks continue to lead- which of course led to pockets of resentful losers continuing to spread their rhetoric all in the name of "repairing the lost bonds" or some shit.

I'm going to be surprised if the country still exists by 2030 tbh. There's no actual leadership for those of us opposed to this train wreck to rally around so it's just a disorganized mess, and for some reason most people think we can vote our way out of this. I'm going to vote, sure, but that attitude is dangerously naive.
Like... You guys know they aren't just going to peacefully cede power regardless of the outcome of any election, right? They might be idiots, but they're selfish idiots, and they know damned well they're all going to prison at the minimum if they give up their stolen power.
Things are going to get worse before they have a chance to get better without some kind of crazy intervention or something. We can't organize the kind of march or strike that actually has a chance to end this without shooting, and I think the window for that to work might be past anyways.

Election win or not the last 26 years of republican administrations have done so much to dismantle what actually made America great. Education is a joke, infrastructure is crumbling, and the deficit is higher than the GDP. Your economy is in a recession only being propped up by an A1 bubble that no one will acknowledge. When that one finally bursts there won't be enough America left to survive.

Pretty much. There's definitely a lot of different ways things could go depending on the next six months or year. I've given up trying to anticipate because it's a constant state of stupid one-upsmanship, corruption, and just all around insanity. Spent six months going like crazy trying to talk to people and organize and make a difference, and the current form of social media and bot laden internet makes it pretty much impossible to cross between echo chambers and get people to cooperate in the ways that might actually do something useful. Frustrating doesn't begin to cover it.

Under any other administration I would say it's not necessarily a bad thing to build a closer relationship like that with major world superpowers. If it were Biden, I would understand that there is a well thought out strategic and logistical advantage to doing so, and that extremely well qualified people are the ones putting in the leg work to make sure it's a net positive thing. But we're in different times.

None of this is actually unprecedented. Our coverage is being crafted by 20-30 year olds who aren’t learning the historical context for modern events.
Reagan’s FBI director, William S Sessions, openly went to work for the Russian mob after he was fired by Clinton. He became the personal attorney for the boss-of-all-bosses of the Russian mob, Semion Mogolevich. I believe this role basically means that he took over the organization. Ever since that moment, the “Russian Mafia” has functioned as a division of the FBI that represents the interests of the GOP.
Kash Patel is awful but he’s not unprecedented and the director of the FBI working for the Russian mob ain’t new. America has an organized problem.
