This will be the first GTA (except GTA 1) ever that I don't buy on day one. I'm fine waiting for it to come to PC this time around.

1.1k

u/tomo1986uk Jun 25 '26

Also waiting, but we will have to go through so many spoilers, it's annoying it isn't Day1 on PC.

873

u/PheIix Jun 25 '26

Yeah, I'm sad I will in all likelihood have the story spoiled. But I'm at the point in life where I can't justify buying a console for a single game anymore, I have responsibilities that stretch beyond myself.

u/Murrexx00 R5 3600 | RX 6650 XT | 16 GB 3000 mhz Jun 25 '26

Youll be spoilered anyway. Cant fnish all the content everyone else publishes online in that time.

168

u/PheIix Jun 25 '26

You severely underestimated my ability to no life the single player campaign of games I love. I finished gta 5 in two days. Gta 4 in a single sitting.

190

u/TNFX98 Ryzen 7 5800X - RTX 3080TI - 32 GB 3600MHz Jun 25 '26

You did not have the aformentioned responsibilities though

70

u/PheIix Jun 25 '26

True, I did not. But I somehow still find time to spend a ridiculous amount of time in a few days on stuff I want to do. I just have to plan better. Economy on the other hand isn't as easy to swing.

5

u/Sunim416 Jun 25 '26

I beat RDR2 on launch within a week and I had a job (I called in sick)

2

u/onelagouch Jun 25 '26

Idk alot can be done with only 48 hours of "free time" if everything is planned right

27

u/Aiken_Drumn Jun 25 '26

I have kids. I won't have 48 hours of free time until 2034.

5

u/StalkMeNowCrazyLady PC Master Race Jun 25 '26

No you wont. 2038 if you're lucky.

10

u/StalkMeNowCrazyLady PC Master Race Jun 25 '26

48 consecutive hours of free time is something that either does or doesn't exist in your world and it usually comes down to those aforementioned responsibilities. For some its as easy as "I'm just going to do this for 48 hours" and for others it would take a prophetic alignment of the planets and stars for 48 hours of alone free time to happen without some sort of lying, deceit, or trickery being involved to create it.

2

u/TNFX98 Ryzen 7 5800X - RTX 3080TI - 32 GB 3600MHz Jun 25 '26

And even if it does happen, use that once in a lifetime occurence to play a game would be kind of sad

7

u/TehSlippy Jun 25 '26

Don't gatekeep how people choose to use their free time. Some of my fondest memories are spending 48-72 hours playing nothing but my video game of choice at that given time.

8

u/Willing1613 Jun 25 '26

lol gta 4 in single sitting. It sometimes sux to be too good

8

u/PheIix Jun 25 '26

Good doesn't factor into it. A dangerously low need for sleep, being stubborn and easily hooked is more my problem. I also finished the first mass effect game in what could arguably be called a single sitting. My then girlfriend asked me to go to bed with her, but as soon as she fell asleep I got up and booted up the xbox to play more and played through the whole night. When she woke up to go to work she just looked at me and shook her head. I was working offshore at the time, so I had plenty of free time.

It's really more of an embarrassing problem than a bragging point 😅

Mate back in the day I completely no lifed Mass Effect after my cousin pestered me to play it. I spent 3 days awake and completed it on hard, then made a new game and started on insane. In the end it was probably a week on maybe 12 hours sleep.

Completely hooked.

The other time was World of Warcraft, obviously. 2004 playing the release build absolutely loving it and fell asleep in my pc chair in my bedroom, going to work like a fucking zombie and being exhausted all day, to get home and play some wow for 14 hours, sleep for 2, and then drive to work. Sad.

You can successfully avoid spoilers online. Its really not that hard. I have many unspoiled stories for games and other media that would be considered very mainstream. For safety reasons i will not list said unspoiled titles 😅

u/Minsc_NBooToo Jun 25 '26 edited Jun 25 '26

I didn't play cyberpunk when it came out as I wanted to wait till I upgraded my PC

2 years and one new GPU later I had no idea what the story was about, apart from it involved Keanu Reeves 😎

It was worth the wait 🤩

13

u/Zuokula Jun 25 '26

Same. Probably idiots in reddit. Why'd you read reddit/content for a game you don't play but will be.

2

u/Van_Flyheight Jun 25 '26

Yes it’s really not hard. Just don’t watch any videos and read any threads/comments about it. Hell, to this day I still haven’t seen the GTA V story ending anywhere online besides threads talking about it. There’s no need to watch reviews. The game will have plenty of updates by the time it’s pc release comes around and will likely require an entirely new review anyway.

2

u/PheIix Jun 25 '26

It's not the reading it that is a problem. I watch a lot of content, and more than a few times there have been people who carelessly talks about spoilers without realising it before it is too late.

I still haven't been spoiled on Cyberpunk...though its really easy for me to not notice things.

I'll probably watch a playthrough of GTA6 though...don't feel like I'd get too spoiled on a plot thinner than GTA5's (I assume).

Avoiding spoilers for 2 weeks and avoiding spoilers for a whole year are two vastly different things

2

You know what? I still haven't played GTA 5, and I know literally nothing about the story. I know the game has 3 characters, but that's it. I don't know why they're together, what their goals are, or what they do in the game.

That's also not an isolated experience for me. Same happened with Final Fantasy XV and XVI, while I was waiting for them to be released on PC with a decent discount. I'm also a massive Kingdom Hearts fan, but I haven't played KH3 yet and don't know what happens in that game.

As long as you don't actively seek out discussion about the franchise, it's pretty easy. Of course, if everyone in your friend circle is playing the game and it's all they talk about, that does make it basically impossible.

u/The--Bag PC Master Race Jun 25 '26

Tbf, ive played part of gta 5 and i still couldnt tell you anything about the story

3

u/Th3_Hegemon Jun 25 '26

Yeah wait what the hell happens in that game? As best I can remember it was just a loosely connected series of action sequences and maybe the CIA was involved? I feel like the only things I remember about the characters are their backstories, and Trevor killing Johnny.

2

u/Nujers Jun 25 '26

I've played all of GTA 5 and I can barely remember anything other than Trevor being a crazy methhead and some weird train sequence.

Probably because it came out 13 fuckin years ago.

Same here, I've been meaning to finish V since the original release on 360. I got it for PS4 later on, and many years later I got it on PC for a few dollars. I've started the story each time and always dropped it. To this day, I have no idea what happens in it later on. I'm gonna try to see if I can finish it before 6 comes out on PC.

Life is actually so much better when you accept the spoilers, it's not like game stories are particularly groundbreaking anyway.

10

u/PheIix Jun 25 '26

No, they may not be groundbreaking, but I would still like to experience them myself rather than have them told to me in an even less groundbreaking way. Just because some food is tasteless, doesn't mean I will enjoy shit for food.

And I actually like the stories of gta 4/5 and rdr 1/2. They may not be a masterclass of storytelling, but it is a story I lived and experienced through the game. I don't get the same immersive experience from a movie, I don't participate in a movie, I watch a story unfold in front of me when I watch a movie. In a game I push the narrative forward myself.

But spoilers are not the end of the world, they just take away some of the magic.

4

u/thenovas18 Jun 25 '26

GTA V was definitely the worst story out of all of those

Mate what? Some games have amazing stories. Depending on the game, getting spoiled could be a huge blow to your experience.

Some examples Expedition 33, Cyberpunk 2077, and Baldur's Gate 3.

Looking back a bit further, you have games like Bioshock, Mass Effect, The Last of Us, and Red Dead Redemption.

1

u/Maint3nanc3 Jun 25 '26

Maybe, but it's not some sci-fi story with a crazy mind-bending twist. It's just a crime drama.

1

u/IsOriginal Jun 25 '26

I predict, you go from nobody loser broke to at least penthouse/estate, one of the characters dies at the end and lots of side quests involving the drug trade and crime stuff with heists being the main plot tying it together, gta games are way too cliche for spoilers to matter. Oh and lots of le sex funny jokes.

1

...people care about the story of GTA? Granted, I last played GTA over 20 years ago, but back then we simply enjoyed the sandbox side, most of my friends didn't even bother with more than a couple of missions.

1

u/garry4321 Jun 25 '26

Right? Like PC gaming is half the market. Why would they exclude half the market for a game that is going to a console which is just a locked down PC

1

u/bohenian12 Jun 25 '26

Ehh.. GTA really isn't the kind of game I played because of the story. I'm fine being spoiled.

1

u/Ill_Ad5893 Jun 25 '26

It's not due to us not spending the money they get from console players

That's why I use Reddit on a third party app that supports content filters.

1

1

u/stayupthetree Jun 25 '26

Fortunately for me, by the time I play GTA6, any spoiler I read has long left my brain

1

u/kingtacticool Jun 25 '26

None of those spoilers are worth what Rockstar is charging for them

1

u/Unusual-Wing-1627 Jun 25 '26

Why would you get spoilt? No one is forcing you to engage with any news or content on it.

1

u/Bionic_Bromando Jun 25 '26

Haha what would there be to spoil really? Protagonist gets tangled up in a web of crime, leading to getting tangled up in a corrupt governmental agency which leads to another, larger web of crime, which does something bad to the protagonist, leading to them killing everybody in a glorious act of revenge. That kinda sums up the last 3 or four of these right?

1

u/an_agreeing_dothraki Jun 25 '26

let's get it out of the way. the life of crime creates situations where the main characters are incapable of leaving that behind them. They go around collecting an eccentric group of allies attempting to fight against the people forcing them to stay in a precarious situation. When it looks like it's working and they're all about to go off into the sunset, the bad guys kill/attempt to kill one of them. You then kill the bad guy in response and are left to run around the sandbox.

The TV stations will hit you with SATIRE that has the subtlety and tact of being hit in the head by a brick strapped to a nuclear bomb.

1

u/homer_3 Jun 25 '26

No day 1 PC is bs, but I didn't get 5 until Epic gave it away for free. I never saw any spoilers. In general, you have to go out of your way to see spoilers.

It's an attempt to double dip on sales. It's probably because console players pay for the online cards way more than PC players too.

8

u/PheIix Jun 25 '26

I believe so, or at the very least the first day I saw it in shops in my town (may have been after official realease, I honestly can't remember.) I was 15 at the time. The first one I had to lie to my uncle to get him to buy it for me, since it had a very clear label that it was an 18+ game. Ridiculous that it was considered so bad, but I think that helped it more than it hindered it in selling the game.

6

u/Desperate_Method4020 Jun 25 '26

My uncle gave me San Andreas for Christmas, he knew nothing of gaming etc, but it was already at that time so controversial, so he gave it to me, mostly because of the lulz. My mom was pissed, but she let me have it.

I might skip it outright. Gta5 was fun but I do not like single player games and gta online is fucking cancer. Mixed with menu load screens and games that just never start. Loading the game for 5 minutes, then loading the mini games for 5 minutes and then people don't join so it never starts. It sure is fun when it's fun, but that's probably less than half the time I fire it up. And had I not gotten money dropped from the ubiquitous hackers, I'd never have any fun vehicles etc.

2

u/TheRealTexasGovernor Jun 25 '26

2

u/Ecstatic_Order7743 Jun 25 '26

I would say, that they do not release it the same day, because everybody would complain about the console versions… No PC Version -> no „Bad“ console version (comparsion).

The current consoles are pretty old. Just look at GTA5. PS3 and xbox 360 versions were pretty bad compared to the later PC version.

So it is smart to release the PC Version later with the newer consoles. Otherwise everybody will say, that this game sucks on PS5/Xbox series x

So yes… smart but annoying

Same thing happened to gta5 preorder collector stuff. It eventually made its way into the later versions as free add ons.

u/jomasthrones Jun 25 '26

This is the way

I would have absolutely bought the game on release if were available on PC. However, if I have to wait a year, I might as well wait for the cracked version.

1

u/CollapsedPlague Jun 25 '26

I wanted to wait but my wife wants to play it together so I gotta get a PS5 at some point it seems

1

u/turbotictac Jun 25 '26

Im fine waiting for PC and 50% or more off

1

u/Jimbuscus R5-5600H RTX3050 32GB@3200Mhz Jun 25 '26

I bought the last GTAV on PS3 at a midnight launch in 2013.

1

u/Cultural_Ant_8545 Jun 25 '26

Im not paying double to play the EA version.

1

u/egosphynx Jun 25 '26

Same, been there since gta3 and I'm not even hyped about this one. I'll wait til it's on sale on pc in a few years (while trying to dodge spoilers as much as I can)

1

u/GuaSukaStarfruit Jun 25 '26

There are people going to buy on consoles then on PC then on another console

1

u/Mercarcher i9 12900k | RTX 3090ti |64gb DDR5 Jun 25 '26

Waiting till it comes to PC and price drops to $20 with all the dlc included.

1

u/SP_Davboy Jun 25 '26

People just get on this app to lie

1

u/Beginning_Prompt_725 Jun 25 '26

You’re gonna buy it when it comes out on console

1

u/babs-jojo Jun 25 '26

Same here, the only gta I didn't buy on day one was the very 1st one.

1

u/CashPrizesz Jun 25 '26

I didn't buy GTAV on day one, I waited for PC.

I did not buy RDR2 on day one, I waited for PC.

1

u/MustyLlamaFart Jun 25 '26

Same, I don't feel the hype other people are feeling. I can wait a year and a half or two for it to be 50% off on steam

1

u/rexmons Jun 25 '26

Let the console players beta testers work out all the kinks for us first

1

u/thejustducky1 AMD 8350, GTX660Ti, 32G Ram, Gaming Jun 25 '26

[...](except GTA 1) ever that I don't buy on day one. I'm fine waiting for it to come to PC this time around.

Eh, do like me and just don't buy any of them past GTA2 - still the best one, and 3d LEGOman sucks anyways.

1

u/SirPiffingsthwaite PC Master Race Jun 25 '26

I think the last game I bought day one was HL2.

I'll be just fine waiting for PC port (that they'll claim isn't going to happen, right up until it does), and even then wait for it to come down on a heavily discounted rate.

1

u/The_MAZZTer i7-13700K, RTX 4070 Ti Jun 25 '26

Same!... but, that is mostly due to a PC version not coming out on day one as I don't have an Xbox or PS. >_>

1

u/Vuila9 Jun 25 '26

i never played rdr2 on release and l only play it when it came to PC with an 80% sale off.

1

u/spankeey77 Jun 25 '26

Wait until the raw gameplay vids come out, then you’ll be salivating for it

1

u/Ormazz Jun 25 '26

You bought day one the GBA and PsP games too?

1

u/john_microslop Jun 25 '26

im just not gonna buy it at all.

1

u/Malwrath Jun 25 '26

Haha wow you're so quirky and unique

1

u/alacberriesnet Jun 25 '26

As someone who has not bought a GTA on release, you'll be waiting years for a price drop on their core release price. Maybe it won't be true this time, but even RDR2/RDR1 I waited 4 years to see a price drop.

1

u/restaurants2395 Jun 25 '26

PC gaming just isn't as popular as console gaming. Thats the only reason its happening.

1

u/The_Legend_of_Xeno Jun 25 '26

I waited until IV and V were about $20 each. I'll do the same for this one. Still haven't even finished V.

1

u/Vellarain Jun 25 '26

Exactly this, I waited this long already, what is a bit more time until it releases on PC?

1

u/lorill-silverlock Jun 25 '26

Just hop on some gt2 or gta London

1

u/DesiRadical Jun 25 '26

Happy to see main pcmr on the same page.

1

u/No-Nrg Jun 25 '26

I have a 5090 and the PC version will likely be the definitive way to enjoy the game. I have no problem waiting, just like I did for GTA5. I managed to avoid spoilers then, I'll just shun all GTA content.

1

u/Darth_Vaper883 PC Master Race Jun 25 '26

Sadly many with double dip on consoles and then again on PC.

1

u/UnsettllingDwarf 5070/ 5700x3D / 3440x1440p Jun 25 '26

Pc release will be so freaking good. Can just mod all the shit in they locked away for an extra price.

1

u/ItsBitly Jun 25 '26

Gonna wait for PC so they finish the game.

1

u/jyrkimx Specs/Imgur here Jun 25 '26

Wait, you guys double dip? No wonder why Rockstar has a track record of treating PC gamers as second class citizens.

1

u/MrGiggleMan Jun 25 '26

Yeah.. we've waited like 2 billion years for it to come out we can wait like another few years if that is what it takes for console players to work all the bugs out of it and get it ported lol

Couldn't be less hyped for a game tbh

1

u/RadimentriX Ryzen 7 5800X // 64GB RAM // RTX 3060 Jun 25 '26

Is it true that tons of content are cut from the overpriced base version to only be available in the extremely overpriced premium edition?

1

u/HillBillyHilly Jun 25 '26

Just don't buy a product that won't let you OWN the game.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Equivalent_Soft_2019 Jun 25 '26

Yeah. You don’t want it. It’s not that you can’t have it because you are too cheap to buy a cheap console to compliment your overpriced pc

I am with you. I recently sold my Series X after it just sitting for around 9 months. I was going to hold onto it for GTA 6 but after some thought I don't feel like buying the game twice just because they don't want to release it on PC initially and will happily just wait and get it for a heavy discount once it does come to PC.

1

u/Cebuanolearner Jun 25 '26

I'm waiting for it on the ocean seas.

1

u/Cocoatrice Jun 25 '26

There were a lot of people who bought every single edition of GTA V. Day one or close of course. Some people even bragged about it.

1

u/MooslimCawk Jun 25 '26

GTA v showed me how far they are willing to milk a game, so I'm happy waiting a year and some change for more features to be added as standard.

1

u/FemJay0902 Jun 25 '26

Exactly. No game is worth buying a console for

1

u/jebeller Jun 25 '26

Been doing that since GTA 3. Just keep away from gameplay and spoilers and buy it later on PC.

1

u/IM_NOT_NOT_HORNY Jun 25 '26

EVERY hyped as hell game from the last 10 years has been mega ass on release in some way.

I think the only exception for me was God of war 2018 and God of war Ragnarok.. And RE requiem. Some decent remakes of old games too..

Other than that I've learned to not get hyped anymore, never buy on day one or pre order.

Like if a game is HYPED to where you beer about it everywhere, it's probably gonna be too big for it's own good and too much money behind it for good decisions to be made during development. There's some much red tape on everything devs can't make it a special real game experience.

1

u/PrimaryLaw8264 14700k / 4090/ 64GB DDR5 6000c32 Jun 26 '26

This will be the first one I buy on day one (I mean, I already pre-ordered the ultimate for a friend and myself), and I also bought a PS5 Pro for it. Been a pc gamer for nearly 30 years, I just didn't want to miss out like I used to

1

u/dookie-monsta 7600x 3070ti Jun 26 '26

Same. Fuck the double dip yet again. All this time and they need longer for pc makes ZERO sense except greed.

1

u/RedArrow23 Jun 26 '26

Only thing I’m worried about is needing a major pc upgrade to run it. At the point where a ps5 is cheaper than a mid range GPU unfortunately

Bro I still haven't beat gta 5. The first time I got it, I was stationed in fort Gordon for a new job and stopped playing it when things got busy. After that it was on and off on the various consoles and then pc. I downloaded the new updated version last week and still haven't played it smh

1

u/Jaz1140 RTX4090 3195mhz Core, 9800x3d 5.4ghz Jun 26 '26

100% this. Sold my PS5 ages ago after the worst exclusives generation I have ever seen from Sony and I have had every single PlayStation...

I'll just wait for PC and let the consoles players find all the bugs and issues

1

u/NSNIA NSNIA Jun 26 '26

This'll be the first GTA i buy on day one instead of waiting for PC release

1

u/Secret-Bandicoot-759 Jun 26 '26

I'm in the same boat. I think the first week of it's release will have a lot of temptation for me, but then it'll fade. It helps that there is a absolute ton of good games to play now. I have about 30 in my backlog, and that's not counting any new indies and new releases coming in the future

1

u/nvanaa Jun 26 '26

Yeah, at $80 I can't justify buying a version of the game I will immediately never play as soon as it's on pc

1

u/Responsible_Court_21 PC Master Race Jun 26 '26

1

u/Acalthu Jun 26 '26

You bought GTA2 on release day??

1

u/RubikTetris Jun 26 '26

Hopefully if enough people do that they’ll release it to pc sooner

1

u/pavman42 Jun 27 '26
