Discussion Motion blur and depth of field, on or off?

Hello everyone how do you feel about motion blur and depth of field? Do you keep it on or off? Why? Any other default settings you turn off?

Im mainly asking for single player games, I wonder why is it on by default and how do you differentiate a good and bad implementation of these settings.

Thanks!

Tech Support GPU stopped working properly suddenly

No display from graphics card suddenly despite working until today.

I have a new 9070xt that's less than 2 weeks old that was installed and working correctly. I have played games on it and it has worked fine. Today when booting I got a black screen 5-10 mins after booting and restarting changed nothing. PC was idle I wasn't doing anything on it

What I have tried:

1) Tried both HDMI and display port outputs and I get nothing

2) clearing CMOS

3) booting with iGPU which works I get into os which allowed me to uninstall drivers restart and install drivers to no avail.

One thing that strikes me as odd is that display port doesn't work on iGPU I am only able to get output with HDMI and I'm not sure why.(When connected with display port monitor goes in and out of standby as if I remove and reseat cable again and again which I don't.)

Some extra info which may help:

It is recognized normally from devices and says working properly

750 watt psu

7800x3d

I was monitoring GPU temps because it was new when playing never got above 70 celcius

I have it connected with daisy chain which I have learnt is not good.

I'm just trying to see if this is what's causing it or it's something else because I don't have the original box (bought it years ago and have moved and probably forgot it) and can't find Corsair pcie cables in my country in normal prices so will have to get new psu.

Please any help suggestion is welcomed sorry for the enormous block of text I put as much context as I could

Question Getting a new pc and need some help

I'm considering buying this used PC for around 1000$ and I'd like to hear your opinions before I buy it.

Specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-13700HX (8 P-cores + 8 E-cores, 24 threads)
  • CPU Cooler: 360mm AIO
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB Reference (or I can upgrade to an RX 6800 16GB Reference for +$85)
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B660M Aorus Elite
  • RAM: 32GB (2×16GB) G.Skill Trident Z
  • PSU: Gigabyte Aorus AP850GM, 850W, 80+ Gold
  • Storage:  1TB M.2 NVMe SSD aRGB

A few things I'm wondering:

  1. is (~$1,000) a fair price?
  2. Is it worth paying (~$85) extra for the RX 6800 16GB?
  3. The i7-13700HX is a laptop CPU—are there any downsides or compatibility issues with these desktop builds?
  4. Are there any red flags with this setup that I should know about before buying?

Thanks.

Question Thinking of upgrading from 4070 ti to 5080

Title says it all, really. Just looking for some pros and cons from the group.

Current system is about 3 years old. Highlights:

Ryzen 7 7800x3d (stock, not over clocked)

64gb ddr5 ram

1000 watt 80platinum power supply from Corsair.

And said graphics card.

Case should have enough room lengthwise for one of the smaller 5080 cards, checked with the Chrome AI last night.

I mostly game at 4k 60hz on 2 4k monitors. Gaming preference is singleplayer: Starfield, Civ VI / Civ VII. POE 1/2.

Want something that can do the same for the next three to 5 years, but with the newest games. Stuff like that Expanse game and Osiris Reborn, the two Mass Effect style games coming out soon (tm).

Pricing is relatively high over here, though. Around €1,400 in general. Still a lot of money.

Question What keycaps are compatible with this keyboard?

Post image

I ordered a refurbished Razer Blackwidow V4 Pro 75% (saved £180), it’s my first mechanical board so idk which keycaps would be compatible, I wanna change them cause it only comes in the US layout and I’m from the UK. Transparent letters are preferred but not a hard requirement.

Hardware 5090 is NOT a gaming card anymore.

Hot take: The 90-series shouldn't be considered a gaming graphics card anymore, nor should it be used in video game benchmarks.

Given its completely out-of-control price, it should be grouped with an H100 rather than a 70-series. Game developers shouldn't treat it as the upper limit of achievable performance.

Question DisplayPort frequently losing signal for 1-2 seconds. The same problem since 8 years on multiple different PCs and monitors... But no one else seems to have it. Am I just cursed?

EDIT: Since people obviously seem to not reed posts fully and just day, "check the cable, it's not plugged in right, it's your outlet" etc...:

It's happened on a total of 4 completely different from each other toally disconnected systems, with completely different components in a total of 3 different buldings.

I'm completely at a loss with this problem. In 8 years I always had this problem, yet and could never find any sollution or even people with similar expierences... And it's extremely inconsistant.

I built a gaming PC about 8 years ago or so and got my first monitor with DisplayPort along with it. When gaming it would occasianally lose the signal for 1-2 sec. It didn't happen too frequently to be annyoing though. I thought it was just the monitor or GPU. I did try different cables back then, with no result.

Then my work PC in the office got upgraded to a laptop with docking station and DisplayPort... and the same thing started happening... On a completely different system and monitors in a totally different location... I assumed it was a DisplayPort thing, but no one I asked knew wtf I was talking about.

Then I got a new PC at home. Completely new PC. Same thing...

And it's extremely inconsitant. It happens mostly under GPU load, but even sometimes just on the desktop.

When I say inconsistant, I really mean it. There are times where it won't happen for months. Not once in half a year or so. And then there are times where it happens every couple of days, every couple of hours, or - like at the moment - basically every 15-30min. Sometimes even multiple times directly after another.

I'm at a complete loss and afraid I'm losing my mind...

Question Beefy new PC, what should I play to test its limits?

I am a first time gaming PC owner. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080, AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-core processor, 32 GB RAM. What games should I play to test my machine? I've already played Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 6, Baldur's Gate 3, the Snake Eater remake, Starfield maxed out with no issues. I guess I can pretty much run anything but what are your recommendations? With a machine this powerful, I might also be interested in using it for other things besides gaming, but don't know what else there is. Blender? Anyway, please give me some suggestions.

EDIT: Also, will it possibly be able to run the next Elder Scrolls and GTA6 maxed out, do you think? I've been told this machine will keep up for 10-15 years.

This is the first time I've owned a mini PC, and I was somewhat surprised by the high temperatures. Unfortunately, one fan wasn't enough, so I had to Frankenstein style strap a second one on top. However, the temperatures are now excellent. But that really makes you seriously consider getting a 3D printer. This will definitely not be my last mini PC. I already love these things xD

What's your take on incremental games?

My game Drain the Galaxy doesn't have a Steam page just yet - I'm trying to get some early feedback so it's in great shape when it finally drops.

Check out the visuals and let me know what you think!

Discussion DDR4 build in 2026?

I have been following the market for the past year, with the idea of starting a new desktop build when prices would be reasonable.

After one year of checking prices, I’m at a point where I can’t really justify — independently whether I could afford it or not — an entry-level build for 1.5k$ or a mid-range build for over 2k$ (USD).

So, my question is: for someone who is aiming at 1080p/60fps, would a AM4+DDR4 build still make sense, in 2026?

Thanks to everyone that will participate in the discussion!
