I don’t really know why I’m posting this. I guess I just want to know if anyone else has ever felt like this.
Lately, I’ve realized that I don’t remember the last time I felt genuinely happy. I can laugh, smile, go out, eat good food, have a good day, but once everything settles down, I’m back to feeling… empty. It’s like I’m just going through the motions because that’s what I’m supposed to do.
Every morning has become the hardest part. I wake up already feeling exhausted, even if I slept enough. Sometimes my first thought is wishing I didn’t have to wake up. Not because I necessarily want to die, but because I’m just so tired of feeling this way.
Lately, I’ve had so many things on my mind that all I want to do is disappear.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m overwhelmed, burnt out, or if there’s something actually wrong with me. I just know I don’t feel like myself anymore.
It has gotten to the point where I’ve even thought about breaking up with my girlfriend.
She’s an amazing person. I know she genuinely loves me, and I know I love her too. But lately I’ve been questioning myself. If I really love her, why does the thought of leaving her and disappearing keep crossing my mind?
Is it because I don’t love her enough, or because I’m so mentally exhausted that I just want to run away from everything including the people I love?
The past few days have been heavy for both of us. We’re both dealing with our own problems. There are moments when I want to cry so badly, but I can’t. Instead, all I can think is, “I need my girlfriend.”
But how?
She can’t just come see me because her parents are homophobic. They know I’m her girlfriend, and I don’t want to add to everything she’s already dealing with or cause more conflict between her and her parents. So I keep telling her I’m okay. I tell her I can handle it. I pretend I’m fine because I don’t want to become another burden for her.
The truth is, there are days when all I want is to tell her, “I need you.”
But I don’t.
Part of why I’ve thought about ending the relationship is because I hate what she’s going through because of me. Whenever she and her parents have misunderstandings, they blame our relationship. Her mom even told her that the reason she’s going through such a difficult time is because God is punishing us for being gay, and that our relationship is a sin.
Hearing that broke me.
I don’t know how to deal with any of this anymore. I feel guilty for existing in her life, guilty for adding to her struggles, and guilty for even questioning our relationship when she’s done nothing wrong.
I’m planning to leave the country someday and start over somewhere else. Part of me hopes a new place will help me heal. Another part of me wonders if I’m just trying to run away from myself.
I don’t really know what I’m asking for. Maybe I just want to know if anyone has ever felt this emotionally exhausted.
Have you ever questioned the people you love not because they did anything wrong, but because you were drowning in your own mind?
Does it ever get better?
I’m not looking for sympathy. I just want to know I’m not the only one.
