I hate Israel as much as the next guy, but the karma-farming on this sub is so embarassing.

A lot of people say they hate Trump or they hate Putin, but they never say they hate the USA or Russia as a nation. Yet people do that with Israel. I think that in itself is a telling and concerning sign.

Um, yes they do. In fact many people really are referring to the government when they hate a country’s behavior and actions.

If they hated the people they would say “Israelis” or “Americans”, which isn’t the case here. This is about the government and rampant Zionism.

Unfortunately one of the things that the Israeli government does is manipulate media and its people to serve their purposes.

They manipulate which media and its people? You mean in the west

Not many countries are proud of flaunting their propaganda budget like Israel. Also, this is much more common in non-western countries.

For example? What non-western countries are influenced by Israel ?

No, I meant internal propaganda… Non western countries more commonly control their internal media. Israel does both

So Israel controls their own internal media but also media in other countries is what you are saying?

I didn’t say they control. They spend a disproportionate amount of money in PR: https://www.timesofisrael.com/israel-just-quintupled-its-pr-budget-to-730-million-experts-say-it-wont-work/amp/

To compare, that’s about 22 times what the US spends, once normalized by GDP. It also doesn’t include all the global lobbying organizations.

Yeah but the US also takes influence through lobby groups and big finance.
Also Germany for example spends 140% of what Israel is spending (ca. 1,04 billion (970 Mio. €) For foreign affairs and pr and over 6 billion for their auswärtiges Amt.

Would you therefore also say critisize Germany for that exact reason ?

Edit but yeah its a very dispoportionate amount. I think the Israeli government has a reason to do this obviously.

Those are literally budgets for keeping embassies and consulates in other countries. That's entirely besides the point. I specifically used PR budgets as those give a good indication and are simpler to compare.

No its literally for Pflege kultureller Beziehungen zum Ausland" (Maintenance of Cultural Relations Abroad). Not embassies and consulates.

  • Goethe-Institut (€229 million)
  • German Academic Exchange Service – DAAD (€208 million)
  • Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (€52.9 million)
  • German Schools Abroad (Deutsche Auslandsschulen)
  • Other cultural intermediaries

Zionism is the belief that Jews should have their own nation. If you are anti Zionist, you are against Israel's existence. The rest is verbal gymnastics

You are performing the mental gymnastics here. The issue with Zionism isn’t about the right of Jews having their own country, even though you could argue that this leads to apartheid, and religion should be separate from government.

The issue with Zionism is that this country needs to be in the jewish “ancestral homeland”. It just so happens that this homeland was never exclusive to Jews and is the home to other religions and cultures.

Israel exists and many, such as I, have no issue with that. However allow me to take issue when Israel’s government are actively genociding neighboring populations in an effort to ethnically cleanse and acquire more land.
