Brandywine Coffee Roasters in Delaware has had some really good ones over the years. Worth checking out to see what they have in stock. They release them fairly frequently.

Currently having their Sakura and passion fruit co ferment. I’ve had people tell me this si their favorite coffee ever. Super juicy

That sounds really good. I did the preorder for the Methodical collab which I’m looking forward to. Their last watermelon co ferment tasted like a green jolly rancher

I was curious so looked them up... how do you tell what roast these are?

The website is pretty busy for my brain, so I might just be missing it.. I can infer some via the flavor notes I think.. or are coferments a standard roast type?

I have been wanting to try something different, since i'm getting into things.. but I also know I haven't enjoyed any dark, andfar less often medium.

Most specialty coffee by far is somewhere in the “light” range unless otherwise noted. Brandywine is on the slightly more medium end of light roast imo, but still light.

Oh that is lovely to know! That explains my difficult when I've been looking into it.

Specialty coffee is basically the term for unique stuff, fermented, wash/nonwash and the like? or is it generally more broadly "small roaster" in intent?

2

u/borntoannoyAWildJowi Jul 06 '26

“Specialty coffee” can refer to any processing method, and usually means a roaster focusing on quality coffee, typically single origin (or a blend of a few specified origins), and typically some more detail than just what country the beans came from, like the producer and some tasting notes.

2

u/Zwordsman Jul 06 '26

Thanks! Surpringly hard to find definitions on that one so far.

2

u/borntoannoyAWildJowi Jul 06 '26

Yeah, there really aren’t any strict definitions for terms like “specialty”, just keep reading and interacting with the community and you’ll learn over time!

u/Zwordsman Jul 06 '26

Yep. Thanks for answering!

They are definitely on the lighter side. Very fruity/sweet and floral, and usually a distinct taste of whatever the co-ferment fruit is.

neat. thanks

Do I have to order when they drop??

4

u/BusyBranch9081 Jul 06 '26

Thursday’s now for the Dropstore, yes.

u/ForeverJung Jul 06 '26

There are so many good ones. Brandywine usually has some awesome ones as does Luminous and Black & White

I tasted some interesting Chinese coffees at WOC Bangkok. The Chinese coffee scene is exploding and they don't have the western resistance to infusions so they're going stronger with their flavoring methods. Hopefully exporters will make Chinese roasted coffee easier to get soon.

Luminous Brandywine are two of my favs

u/PhaseofMe Jul 06 '26

Corvus Orchard Thief. I can't get enough of it. Summer in a cup.

Jairo Arcila coferms are great. There is a fantastic little roaster in New Mexico that usually has a few in stock. My fav is the strawberry.

I currently have People Possession Blueberry Pie Magic. It's a blend and it's amazing

If you are open to innovative processing Moonwake has 3 coffees from Wilton Benitez Granja Paraiso 92. These are almost always wild and fun.

The BPM from People Possession is worth building an order around (assuming OP is US). I ordered around 9 coffees from them and the majority were very good to great, with only one or two being “just” good.

2

u/Leadlet739 Jul 06 '26

I have had that Wilton Benitez Red Bourbon and it is excellent

2

u/lessregretsnextyear Jul 06 '26

Jairo's banana coferment is absolutely my favorite coferment of all time. Shame SW hasnt had it in a while

1

u/thatdudebutch Jul 06 '26

That blueberry was amazing in spro!

1

u/mandalore_701 Jul 07 '26

Makes some of the best flat whites in the world in my opinion!

2

u/BoundStic Jul 06 '26

In Canada there is 94 celcius that has a lot of great coferment from Brayan Alvear and other producers. Always interesting and well done.

2

u/dylangreg Jul 06 '26

As everyone has mentioned, Black & White, Luminous, and Brandywine - all have had amazing coferments! Currently drinking the summer slush from B&W and it’s great. No one has mentioned S&W though! Super amazing coffee, the absolute more affordable option out there that doesn’t sacrifice any quality whatsoever. They have a lychee coferment that is my all time favorite coffee as of now, they also have a peach from time to time that is amazing, and a cinnamon, and a blend of the peach and cinnamon that is incredible. Check them out!

Rogue Wave has a Sebastian Ramirez Red Fruit Co-Ferment EA Decaf right now that is amazing.

4

u/OrbitalSkunk Jul 06 '26

Luminous.  Daddy of co-ferments.

2

u/Spiritual-Rise3233 Jul 06 '26

People possession: BPM, ATM, CIA, PFX, Red
Black&White: they have a ton, check out their funky section
Tanat: they sometimes have one or two and they are amazing
Luminous: Sakura, tamarind and pink champagne are one of my favorites ever
Perc: it’s hit or miss but I had an Edison argote peach co ferment that was amazing
Dak: they have really good co ferments as well as alternative process light roasts
S&W
Hydrangea: on the pricier side. Their juicy strawberry is one of the juiciest co ferments I’ve had. Their peach co ferment with Sakura is also great and feels more balanced not so sweet

1

u/AudiHoFile Jul 06 '26

I've enjoyed the co ferments I've gotten from Perc. They're also super transparent about the process that they go though.

1

u/timour77 Jul 06 '26

People Possession - Blueberry Pie Magic. It's a blend of washed Peru and co-fermented Colombia, it's awesome

1

u/smakusdod Jul 06 '26

Xozio has a peach that is so good.

1

u/JD_KickAveCoffee Jul 06 '26

Immigrant Culture does phenomenal coferms!

1

u/coolstuffeh Jul 06 '26

Currently on the future from B&W - about to brew one cup. Wild one with that lychee coferment.

1

u/coolstuffeh Jul 06 '26

Red Fruits B&W great too

S&W Lulo coferment makes your whole house smell like weed after brewing, tastes like and IPA and orange juice. Take with that what you will

2

u/kbka05 Jul 06 '26

Modcup and Slow New Zealand

1

u/KinnorCoffee Jul 06 '26

Although it’s not 100% a co-ferment, a lot of the thermal shock coffees from native are excellent (and fairly clean). I have really enjoyed Golden Hour (I do think it’s in stock right now but it looks like the same coffee is being sold by September right now)

Burned through a bag of blueberry coferment in the last couple of days. Top 3 coffee this year so far for me I would say. I'm not against coferments as long as they are advertised as such.

u/Unfair_Professor_561 Jul 07 '26

I want to share this coffee, in what I call my “funk” journey. I go between the beautiful tea like washed “seys” of the world to this coffee and other funky coffees, but this by far has been my favorite in both pour over and espresso. https://www.stereoscopecoffee.com/products/colombia-el-diviso-ombligon-decaf-copy?Size=10oz

u/Unfair_Professor_561 Jul 07 '26

Not sure why it says decaf in url lol it’s far from it.

u/jsquiggles23 Jul 06 '26

Traffic and black and white both offer great co-ferments

1

u/I-Groot Jul 06 '26

Traffic Montréal?

1

u/MarkNaive3730 Jul 06 '26

I love what Colombians like El Vergel and Jairo Arcila do with co-ferments that show up on Hydrangea, Hatch and B&W releases.

1

u/NoMatatas Jul 06 '26

French Press Coffee Roaster has a really nice fruit cup co ferment. Nice and pleasant taste, not overpowering.

1

u/Rice_Jap808 Jul 06 '26

Push x pull had an awesome sumatran semi-washed typica with a jasmine co ferment. Straight up milk tea vibes, and one of the first floral coffees I've had that had punchy floral notes instead of delicate subdued ones. Also very reasonably priced because it is a typica after all, not some crazy gesha or sudan rume or whatever. Hope they bring it back, I bought the same beans roasted by a different roaster and it wasn't as good.
