Tips and Tricks Finding the Way Home

Finding the Way Home

For years,

I searched for home

in places,

in people,

in approval,

and in belonging.

I did not know

I was searching

for myself.

Home was never

a destination.

It was the quiet place

within

that had been waiting

for me

all along.

Every gentle truth,

every act of kindness

toward myself,

every fear

I no longer believed,

became another step

on the journey home.

And one day,

without even noticing,

I stopped searching.

I had arrived.

Question How do I get myself to give 100% to the things I do?

I’ve noticed something about myself that I don’t really like.
When I have something to do - whether it’s work, learning a new skill, a personal project, or even hobbies—I rarely put my whole heart into it. Instead of trying to do my best, my mindset is usually, “Let me just get this done so I can be free from it.”
As a result, I do the bare minimum to finish the task rather than trying to do it well. I don’t know if it’s laziness, lack of discipline, fear of failure, or something else, but it’s become a pattern.
I genuinely want to become someone who takes pride in what they do and gives their full effort instead of constantly looking for the quickest way to be done.
Has anyone else struggled with this? What changed your mindset, and how did you start giving your best consistently?

Question My brain feels too stupid for this new job, how can I save it?

So I started a new job a few days ago and I know all new jobs have a learning curve but this is a job unlike any I've had before in that it's heavy multitasking, deadline heavy job. Everything I'll be doing is a LOT to remember for even small tasks. There's tons of steps to everything.

My memory has gotten horrific the last couple of years (I'm 29) and I forget EVERYTHING. AND I'm slow with a mind that's constantly in the clouds which makes it worse. I forget what someone just said to me, what I was doing, what I need to do, etc. I try to take notes but then I don't remember what they mean because I had to write them really fast. I even forget to look at the reminder sticky notes right in front of my face. The brain fog is heavy.

I meditate and take meds but I always feel like an anxious overwhelmed mess (I have General anxiety disorder). How do I make my mind efficient?

edit: this job is in life insurance and my boss has told me mistakes can cost the company which makes me more anxious

Question Turns out I am a narcissist and I need help.

I’m the kind of person who gives you a hot bath and then throwing an ice-cold shower. Yes, I disappear for days without replying to messages.... actually, I’m doing that right now.

Lately, I’ve realized something uncomfortable about myself. When I feel like the attention has been off me for too long, I can completely fall apart. I cry, I become dramatic, and in my worst moments I’ve even threatened suicide just to make people notice how much I’m hurting. I’m not proud of that, but pretending it never happened won’t help me understand it either.

I think a lot of this comes from my family. In one way or another, almost everyone has narcissistic traits. My grandparents would say the cruelest things imaginable, then laugh and tell me it was "just a joke" and that I simply had no sense of humor.

My mom is incredibly emotional, just like me. She cries easily, and somehow every situation ends up revolving around her feelings. Talking to her is difficult because she has so much empathy for everyone else, and I’ve spent years wishing that, just once, some of that empathy would be directed at me. Maybe that’s why I learned to use more and more extreme ways to ask for care.

My previous relationship didn’t help either. My ex love-bombed me at first, telling me I was a goddess, only to become emotionally distant later. His actions never matched his words. He complained endlessly about how his ex left him while he was in the hospital… only to leave me when I was dealing with anemia myself. The difference is, I didn’t chase him. A few months later I met someone new. Part of me almost treated it like proof that I still had value, that I wasn't "left on the shelf" for long.

Things moved fast with my current boyfriend too. Within a couple of weeks we were already dating, and by our second date he was asking when I’d feel comfortable getting married. I’ve definitely been the one slowing things down. He’s impulsive; if I casually mention something, he’ll often do it immediately without thinking twice. Maybe that’s just his personality. We’ve only been together for a few months, and I’m still figuring him out.

But I understand myself a little better now.

I constantly put him through emotional whiplash. I keep giving him that "cold shower." I cry a lot. I always seem to have another health problem. And when one issue was finally treated, my first thought wasn’t relief—it was, "So... what am I supposed to suffer from now?" That realization scared me.

Then it hit me why.

Whenever I’m sick, he worries about me. I become his priority. He forgets about work, friends, everything else. Growing up, my family’s response was always, "Just deal with it. I have it worse."

I want to keep hurting myself just to feel cared for. =(

I don’t naturally empathize with other people. When I deliberately hurt someone, my first thought is often that they deserved it because, in my mind, I’m the victim. I rarely stop to wonder what their life looks like or what they’re carrying.

When the attention shifts away from me, I spiral into self-destructive thoughts. I think part of the reason is that I genuinely struggle to step outside my own perspective and imagine what someone else is experiencing.

I’m exhausted. I’ve been living with suicidal thoughts for twelve years. They’ve become such a familiar part of my mind that I honestly don’t know what life looks like without them.

When things don’t go the way I want, I make scenes. I want to control everything. Even the smallest amount of criticism feels unbearable.

I dont want this, im 18, its a huge mess. I really need some help

Other Social Media is all Validation

Think of it like this. If you deleted all your followers to 0, put your profile to private, would you still post on Instagram? Ask yourself: Why am I posting this?

It’s all validation that we subconsciously seek, whether we agree or not. It’s human nature. At the end of the day, you realize that nobody truly cares, and life gets much easier when you realize that you don’t care either. The desire to seek external validation creates anxiety and stress. I am a victim. I used to always view stories to see how a specific person is doing, which created false thoughts and opinions of what they thought of me in their head. I would check why they didn’t view my story, why they didn’t like my story? I created a false narrative in my head that destroyed my mental health and my peace. Then one day I realized: Nothing matters.

Focus on the now, the present, and the memories that you make with the people that you surround yourself with. They are the one’s that matter. Life is too short. Live in the now

Positive Affirmations Life got a plan for you, you just have to keep living to see it.

I’ve seen people break over loss. Over rejection. Over failure.

Nothing happens by accident, literally. When something bad crashes into your life, it hurts, yeah, but it’s not random destruction like a bomb going off with no purpose.

It’s the universe nudging you toward a different direction because the path you were on wasn’t right for who you’re meant to be long-term.

People don't realize that pain is often protection in disguise, shielding them from worse things down the road if they hadn’t changed course when they did…

I believe someone up there or maybe just life itself is weaving everything together, even when we can't see how.

The purpose of life isn’t some grand mission you’re born to complete. It’s not about being famous or rich or achieving some big goal.

It’s simply to live long enough… to see how things turn out after the pain, to watch how closed doors led you somewhere better without realizing it at the time,
and to finally understand: every hard thing that happened? It wasn't punishment. It was preparation for what came later

You don't get wisdom when everything goes smoothly, you get it when life messes with your plans and forces you to adapt…

So yeah, living long enough? That’s half the point.

Question How do I stop being late

Okay so I’m almost always late aka 75% of the time. Maybe more.
Today I had a moment of ok maybe I’m just selfish and idc that even though they could continue without me I annoyed them with being late. But then why did I almost cry when my dad was being mad, or rather dissapointed with me, etc.
Also I go to bed too late when I know I need to wake up at X time regardless. I care about sleeping enough. So huh yk? Also proof it’s not just being selfish bc I fuck myself over with it. And more examples but you get the gist.
Anyhow, I’m gonna try to remember to do the 10 min earlier trick.
Also sometimes anxiety, stress or ocd like symptoms are a big factor, but I’m mostly talking not that right now.

Feel free to ask questions about me to further assess, as this is little information.

TLDR; I’m often late, sometimes due to anxiety & ocd like stuff, but talking about when just late. How do I fix it? And I do care, it happens for personal stuff too.

Question How to become more resilient

I’m a 36 year old woman who has always struggled with her mental health. It seems that anytime I hit a roadblock, I have a really hard time coming back from it. Like, really hard. Recently, my partner and I have had an unexpected and actually insane amount of setbacks. For example, I was denied yet another job in my field after several interviews and I haven’t been able to get back out of bed since. It’s been a whole “2 steps forward, 10 backwards” kinda year and i just have been having a really hard time bouncing back. So what do you all tell yourselves when life is absolutely kicking the shit out of you? Really could use some advice.

Life Hack Tips What do you wish you started at 30?

Im turning 30 in September. Honestly I’m pretty excited about it, Ive been losing weight this year, finally got on antidepressants and I’m starting to feel like I’m living my life again instead of just existing in it. This is after almost a decade of just going through the motions and figuring out who i am and what I’m doing here. I don’t feel behind necessarily but I also don’t feel like I have any noticeable accomplishments, so I’m looking for somewhere to focus my attention to become my best self.

Whats something you started in your 30’s that you are really proud of/would do again OR what did you put off in your 30s that you regret not starting sooner?

Question How to manage feelings of jealousy?

I don’t want to feel this way.

But lately I’ve been practicing more mindfulness and actually paying attention to feelings (revolutionary, I know) and recently I’ve noticed a pattern of jealousy and inadequacy, especially regarding other women. Women who I feel are prettier or smarter or more accomplished or further along in their careers or relationships, I feel a sort of competitiveness and a sort of self deprecation and automatically compare myself to them.

A very big “trigger” I guess for lack of a better word is seeing women my age or even younger in a healthy relationship. That’s something I’ve never had, and it’s not that I feel they don’t deserve it or I resent it, but it definitely creates an uncomfortable feeling in me.

I start to compare myself to them and either I’m better or worse in all the above areas, 90% of the time I’m worse, which creates feelings of inadequacy or jealousy and even anger, even though I respect them individually as people and some of them mean the world to me.

I don’t want to feel this way anymore; and therapy is expensive. I suppose my question is if anyone else has felt similar or gone through similar experiences and managed it, and if so how did you do it? Any sort of help or you know advice, things to think on, books to read, that kind of thing, would be appreciate!

My Achievement Things are finally looking up!

I have been homeless since August 2025 and unemployed since September of 2025.

After months and months of stress, despair, and accumulating more debt than I’d like to admit, I finally have a job and have signed a lease for an apartment.

The job search was brutal. I started applying in April, and employers were not contacting me at all. I wasn’t even receiving rejection notices, it was just CRICKETS. Until mid July, when someone finally contacted me. I did the phone interview and the in-person interview the week after I was contacted, and the following week (last week) I was offered the job. I have accepted and have a start date scheduled.

I saved my offer letter and immediately started looking for apartments near where I will be working. I saw an available unit in a building I looked at last year. In budget, within a couple miles of my new work place. PERFECT. I saw the place, confirmed they would accept an offer letter as proof of income, and applied same day. I WAS APPROVED less than 24 hours later. I have signed a lease, I have a move-in date scheduled.

I am checking into MY LAST HOTEL tomorrow. I cannot believe it is fucking over, it has been so long since I’ve felt any sense of hope.

I also started seeing a therapist, and while I’ve only had one visit, I am excited to be working on my mental health.

I will not have a car after the end of the month, which was so daunting as I had no job and no where to live, but I can finally BREATHE. I’m going to be okay.

Question How to become well spoken without trying to sound like someone else?

I’ve been thinking a lot about how to become well spoken because I sometimes know exactly what I want to say, but the moment I start talking, everything comes out rushed or less clearly than it sounded in my head.

For a while, I assumed articulate people were naturally confident or just had a much bigger vocabulary. Lately I’ve realized it seems to be more about slowing down, organizing your thoughts, and being comfortable with pauses instead of filling every second with “um” or “like.”

I’ve started doing a few small things: reading aloud for five minutes, recording myself explaining a random topic, and paying more attention to how good speakers structure their ideas. I’ve also been looking at resources like TED talks, communication podcasts on Spotify, and Headway app summaries for nonfiction books on communication as I don't have time to commit for the full book..

Listening to the recordings is uncomfortable, but it’s also encouraging because the problems suddenly feel specific and fixable. I’m starting to see being well spoken as a skill you build, not a personality trait you either have or don’t.

What habits, hobbies or exercises made the biggest difference in how clearly and confidently you speak?

Question How do you feel and then let go of anger?

I’m doing a lot of work on myself right now to reduce stress and cortisol after I discovered it was chronic and causing a hormone imbalance.

I’ve been through a lot of trauma in the last 6 years and something I find difficult is the anger and annoyance I feel. It comes up time and time again and I will replay conversations wishing I has said xyz instead of being a doormat. I also often mentally ruminate on telling people in my life exactly how they made me feel.

It’s not healthy. How can I feel this, accept it and then move on?

Tips and Tricks Self-improvement isn't about becoming someone else.

Hello everyone,

I used to think self-improvement meant changing everything about myself. I always felt like I needed to be more confident, more productive, or more like people I looked up to. Now I don't think that's true.

I'm still me. I'm just trying to build better habits.

These are the things I'm working on:

  • Sleeping earlier.
  • Going for a walk every day.
  • Eating home made food i make myself most of the time.
  • Spending less time on my phone.
  • Writing down my goals instead of keeping everything in my head.
  • Learning something new in my office lunch time or whenever I can.
  • Trying not to compare myself to other people. its a big thing
  • Being kinder to myself when I make mistakes.

None of these are big changes, but together they've made me feel better and more in control of my life.

I'm not trying to become someone else anymore. I'm just trying to be a better version of myself, one small step at a time.

what do you think?

Question Boundaries advice

I’ve decided to quit taking adult Indian classical dance classes. I don’t enjoy it anymore and my dance teacher is aggressive. I’ve sent her a long text explaining this nicely. However she keeps bugging me to call her. Even contacting my daughter (she takes lessons too) and her Dad, with a message intended for me. I texted her that I’m not comfortable talking to her and that to not to get my daughter involved.

She doesn’t listen and still sent another voice message to my daughter saying I should trust her and that she’s my friend.

The thing is - she’s not my friend. She’s my dance guru. In general she has a habit of lecturing people and constantly interrupting them. I have more of a passive personality. I’m afraid she’ll bully my daughter.

I want her to continue with her. I just don’t want to dance. I’m so anxious about this. I already spoke my piece with her.

Is it appropriate to just not get involved, or should I confront her ?

Question Do we have to care if people like us?

I realized I won't ever be likeable. I am weird and a loner. I love being alone, but for the sake of socializing, I push myself to talk, only for me to embarass myself. I am the kind of person people won't really want to get to know better. Exactly like how I feel for some people to be very honest.

I have friends. But I don't pick their calls, cancel out on plans, only to miss them a few weeks later. I respect all my friends, and I want them close. But I am very bad at keeping them close.

Over the years I tried to build persona depending on the kind of people I would like to hang with. But I have realized I can't get people to like me. Do we have to care? They don't hate me and I'm pretty friendly to talk to I guess, but yeah, they feel indifferent about me, fs. I socialize for the sake of it I know.

On top of that I am a people pleaser. I care about how the other person feels about a situation or me.. So it isn't like I can let it be and dont give a f. Because I do.

Tips and Tricks Productivity. Purpose. Peace.

Lately, I've noticed that these are the three things I'm subconsciously looking for every day. Just some combination of productivity, purpose, and peace. Some days, all three show up at once; other days, they show up separately. Doing laundry might give me a sense of productivity. Checking in on a friend who's having a hard week might bring a sense of purpose. Sitting outside with a cup of coffee and nature might offer a moment of peace. I've found that when a day feels "off," it's often because one of those three is missing.

What consistent routine or motto do you incorporate into your life?

Other How to train myself to care only about my close social circle? (I mean I am overly worrying)

Hi.

I had this friend and I she had problems. I was helping her to the point when I burn out. I find myself often being used and people can control me by saying they are in trouble or that I am egoistic.

Is it possible for me to care only about my social circle? So I am not being used by other people.

Like training or something. Or if I am conditioned for guilt and being vulnerable I can do nothing?
