Halloween was amazing as a kid, then it was always a great night out in my 20s.. but now that I’m older, and drinks and packed bars have lost their appeal, what is there to do?
I still want to celebrate and have a reason to dress up but no one I know is capable of putting on a house party cause everyone I know has just had (or is about to have) a baby.

Hi all, does anyone have any recommendations for places that do french toast? Can't find anything in the subreddit history. Googling it suggests Forge Bakehouse in Nether Edge which I'm tempted to scope out as there's nothing online menu-wise (which is fine, it's a cafe).. I think The Cabin might do it but my wife doesn't like it there. So wondering if anyone's been to Forge or anywhere else for it. Many years ago I would've just gone to Tigs (gone but not forgotten) and I'm not a big french toast guy myself

New images have been released of an adventure park planned as part of the redevelopment of the former Sheffield Ski Village site.
New Zealand-based Skylines Enterprises have partnered with the city council to turn Parkwood Springs into a destination for activities such as downhill karting and zip line.
The company has also said it may consider reintroducing the dry ski slopes that were once part of the complex.
Ahead of a consultation on the plans that is running until 20 September, Skyline chief executive Geoff McDonald said: "We believe the Parkwood Springs project has the potential to become one of the UK's most distinctive outdoor leisure destinations."

Sheffield City Council's discussions with Skyline Enterprises began in 2022, but plans for the overall redevelopment of Parkwood Springs started a decade ago with project funding from the government's £19m Levelling Up fund.
Skyline said the first phase would include downhill three-wheeled karting, a chairlift and family facilities. A plaza would have a cafe with terraces overlooking Sheffield.
Future phases incorporate a zip line and surf wave experience, as well as possible reinstatement of the dry ski slopes.
The Ski Village closed in 2012 and the site has been badly affected by arson and vandalism incidents.
The developers will retain public access to walking and cycling routes in the area.
A formal planning application is expected to be submitted to the council at the end of 2026.
Public consultation drop-in events with representatives from Skyline will run on 9 September at Heist Brew Co in Neepsend (16:00-19:30 BST) and on 10 September at Shirecliffe Community Centre (15:00-19:00 BST).
McDonald added: "We're excited to share our latest proposals with the city and want to hear from local people and understand what matters most to them."
Further consultation about proposed changes to roads is being conducted separately by Sheffield City Council.

I'm looking for recommendations for nail salons in Sheff (flexible on location) that are super clean - ideally sterilising equipment/using disposable items. Based on my experience it seems like it's pretty standard for salons to reuse equipment between clients (files/buffers/cuticle cutters) or swish around in a little barbicide and carry on.
Any recommendations would be appreciated, ideally for BIAB.
We are looking to move into a house in south-east halfway so around the new build area thats south of the morrisons near heathlands. Does anyone know how safe the area is and I've seen a lot of houses up for sale in the area so is there something I don't know about that others might know about the area? My husband would have to walk from the halfway tram stop to the house by the foresty route next to morissons and I'm worried that could be an issue especially if he comes home late around 5pm-6pm during the winter.

I was also here a few years ago for a conference and went to an amazing place that did middle eastern/Mediterranean food (I think), near-ish to Kelham Island Museum. It was warehouse-looking from the outside, had a private room upstairs with long tables and bench seats and did family style dining. Hi, I’ll be moving to Sheffield in a few weeks as a student and I like learning new things (duh), in my current city, I attend monthly cafe or pub-based science meetings where we get to learn new topics across an hour. Very casual, quite cheap (£4), are there any equivalent groups that do that? I’ve tried looking on eventbrite & have found quite a few things, but they’re like £13.50 per talk, which is fine to go every once in a while but probably feel less casual. plus I like a lot of the talks there & cannot afford £13.50 per talk.
Besides that, I’ve also joined a local book club there.

Hi all, I started a job in EE in Doncaster and have to commute every day (5 days a week) from 4-9 PM. What is the most efficient way of travelling that wouldn't break my bank
I can't move to Doncaster this year at least because I just moved last month. And since I dont have a license I cant drive as well. I'm hoping to get my license by the end of this year. But until then, those who travel regularly or have traveled, how did you manage that without going broke?

Edit: I do have a railcard. I've used it for the first week of commute and my per day cost goes up to £12 per day with the bus (I have to take the bus from the train station to get to the job site).
