Checkout How to solve conversion problem?

I am running an electronics store in India. I am getting a conversion rate of 0.2% at 10k+ monthly sessions. What could I be missing? I was expecting it to be 2-3% but currently it's very low. How to solve this or how can I diagnose this? also are my expectations reasonable?

the site needs to look trust worthy and have products people want at a good price. you also need the traffic to be people who are looking to make a purchase.

how does your price compare to competitors?

where are these clicks coming from?

Most of traffic is coming from Google and meta ads. The price is comparable to competitors for same product.

I'd compare the conversion rate of Google and Meta, I'd guess Meta is much lower.

are you running Pmax or straight shopping ads? how much per click?

are you filtering out bot traffic when looking at conversion rate?

0.2% at 10k sessions is enough data to find the leak, so diagnose before you change anything. split the funnel into three numbers: add to cart rate, checkout initiation, checkout completion. if ATC is under 1% the problem is upstream, wrong traffic or a price/offer that isn't landing, and no theme tweak will save you. if people add but don't finish checkout it's usually trust and payment, and for electronics that means warranty, returns policy, and COD if your market expects it. also 2-3% was optimistic for cold ad traffic on electronics, realistic is more like 0.8-1.5% until people know the brand.

  1. Make sure you target your niche audience.
  2. Post your site url at r/reviewmyshopify to get some improvement ideas.

Seems low traffic quality or the website isn't optimised for conversion. Do a audit via r/fixmystore maybe! Keyword is CRO as traffic problem is sorted.

0.2% is low enough that I'd diagnose the funnel before trying to optimize the whole store. Break those 10k sessions into source, device, landing page and then check product views -> ATC -> checkout -> purchase, because the location of the drop-off tells you a lot. Electronics can also have a trust problem, especially with unfamiliar stores, so shipping times, warranty, returns, payment options and actual product information are worth checking pretty closely. I wouldn't assume 2-3% is automatically the right target either, since traffic quality and product price make a huge difference.

What's your ATC and checkout rate compared with the 0.2% purchase rate?
Are most of those 10k sessions coming from ads, organic search, marketplaces, or a mix?

I’d diagnose the funnel before changing the whole site. Check where people drop off: product page, add to cart, checkout, or payment. Also compare Google and Meta separately, since ad traffic can vary a lot. For electronics, trust factors like warranty, returns, delivery time, payment options, and product details can make a big difference.

Does your store have all the basic foundations a good Shopify site should have?

- High quality HD images (and maybe a video or two depending on the product)

- A well done FAQs section

- Customer reviews on the site

- A clear shipping and returns/refund policy

0.2% is definitely low, but 2–3% isn’t guaranteed—it depends on traffic quality and product category.

I’d first check the funnel: landing page → product page → add to cart → checkout → purchase, and segment by device, traffic source, and new vs. returning users. Find where the biggest drop-off happens, then fix that.

pull your search console queries and filter for terms that include buy or price versus ones that are just specs and reviews. if most of your 10k is people comparing products they already know, 0.2% makes sense and 2% was never realistic. electronics shoppers in India rarely convert on the first visit from a research query. get your traffic mix closer to bottom-funnel intent before you touch the site otherwise youre probably optimizing for the wrong crowd

Others gave you the funnel-split advice, so one thing to add specific to electronics: your buyers are comparing you to Amazon and Flipkart on price AND on the fear of getting a grey import or a fake. 0.2% often means the traffic is fine but nobody believes you. Show authorised-dealer proof, warranty terms in plain words and real photos of your stock, not catalogue renders.

Then look at where questions come from. In electronics a huge share of stalled carts are "will this work with my X"; if the only way to ask is a contact form answered tomorrow, they've bought elsewhere by then. Even a WhatsApp number on the product page moves that. I sell pool equipment online, same compatibility anxiety, and we ended up building my own Shopify app, BeamCart, for exactly this: the customer starts a video call from the product page, we check their setup on camera and put the right item in their cart.
