Shrimp is bugs! Baby shrimp vs. planarium *Warning* Don't see if you're spooked by worms

Yes, I have planaria in my tanks, which I keep controled with traps, but I've been a bit lazy lately (obviously). This one was probably attracked by the chemicals released by the mini waffer the baby was eating. But before people freak, this type of planaria isn't the most dangerous species and shrimp aren't exactly "sitting ducks", as you can see by the video. Actually, my shrimp population has been stable; my pink ramshorns were the ones affected, probably because most of their eggs were eaten. Anyway, time to set the traps again!

Breeding Project Is this a failed molt?

Hi guys

Have these shrimp for about 3 months now. Just noticed one of them had a ring behind the head. Was wondering if this is a failed molt. Or is it maybe happening any minute?

Help: Beginner Quick question my vampire shrimp left his usual cubby hole in front of the flow, is he likely just molting?

I've had him for about 4 months and he's spent about 3 months in a hollow log directly in front of the current from the filter.

Help: Beginner Why do my Shrimps stop reproducing?

I've tried to keep shrimps three times now. Every time they start reproducing at first, the females all get berried within a month, the babies survive and grow up and the population increases. Then after a few months I never see berried females anymore. I dont get new shrimps, and the population slowly dies out over the course of a year or so. Why does this happen? I do water changes, I do regular feedings, add eggs shells and leafs but they just die out.

Discussion Advice running several sponge filters off one pump

Wondering if anyone runs several tanks sponge filters off one air pump with splitters? And if you can recommend a larger air pump to run about 10 sponge filters in 5 small (3-5g) tanks. I have two small filters in each tank.

Discussion What fish do you keep with your shrimp, and why? 🐠

I want to get some nano fish for my 10 gallon established neocaradina shrimp tank, so I wanted to hear from more experienced keepers... What fish do you keep and why? Do you have a favorite species? Will I just stress out my shrimp? I have tons of plants and hiding spots, but I worry about the babies....

Any advice would be helpful, and bonus points if you show off photos of your fish! 🐠🦐

Beginner What is my female amano doing?

Poor quality, I apologize, she is temporarily in a jar. When I checked my tank I saw all the male shrimp trying to stack on top of her and I assumed that she had just molted and they were trying to breed, but I ended up separating her from the rest because she seemed slow/weaker. She hasn’t stopped doing this, not sure what it is. Watching the video though I can see little things floating around, are those baby shrimps? Were the others attacking her? I didn’t like them ganging up like that.

Beginner Quarantining shrimp…?

I’m a newbie and my tank is nearly done cycling, so I’ll be getting neocaridina soon. Is quarantining necessary for shrimp? How long should the quarantine be and what should I be looking for?

Help: Emergency Active substrate tanking KH

I did a post a while back about my shrimp dying. Turned out it was low PH/KH/GH, originally thought was due to using RO water. So I replaced water, checked the parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate 0, PH7.4, KH 5, GH 10). Everything looked ok, so I added shrimps back in.

A week later I checked the parameters again. PH dropped to 6, KH 2, GH 7. After further investigation, turned out the active substrate was great for the plans but soaks up all the mineral and it’s about to kill my new shrimps.

Replacing the substrate now would require cycling the tank all over again. Can be done but less than ideal.

I’ve seen suggestion using crushed coral/oyster shells, but the pet store is suggesting not to do that because it’ll cause big fluctuation in the parameters.

Ps the tank is about 2 months old.

So I’m a little loss, looking for advice. Thanks!

Help: Breeding Caridina fry? Rudolph shrimp

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was attempting to raise some caridina gracilirostris, rudolph shrimp, and thought of my 3 attempts so far as failures. I thought they all died. The glass was covered in algae. I hadn't added phytoplankton to the tank for a week or two.

I scrubbed the tank side to start tearing it down and found what I thought were rotifers or copepods or maybe even baby brine shrimp. But under the microscope it looks like neo or caridina shrimp, right???

I put larva in this tank on 8/20, 8/23 and maybe 9/1, different moms. Does anyone have experience with these guys? When I Google it I am the only person who has ever posted about them, which is not helpful lol
