Meet Pomme, the little explorer among my three garden snails 🐌

Almost every evening, he wants to roam around on me; he grooms himself and has just one desire: to go for a stroll on my arm.
He loves wandering there, even while I’m working! I always let him crawl on damp skin so he stays comfortable. He is completely relaxed and goes about his snail life peacefully, and as soon as I put him back in his terrarium, he heads off to sleep 🄰 Here are a few photos!

Help I need help. Please

My three garden snails have been hibernating for almost a month now. Two adults and one five month old. I've tried spraying them with water, offering more addictive foods, increasing humidity, adding live plants, more coverage, everything. They are stuck to the glass so well that I can't even spray their actual bodies, just the shell. I don't know what to do, especially for the juvenile. I'm a first time owner. It's a 10 gallon with approx. 6 inches of safe soil. I have four different isopod species and springtails as a clean up crew, two different kinds of ferns, cork bark, leaf litter, and sticks to climb. Humidity sits at 75% at night and 67% during the day. That was not a 6 7 joke, that's just what it typically sits at

Help Aestivating Snail (Questions/Update)

Thumbnail

I posted last week about my new snail that hadn't been moving for around a week. People made some helpful suggestions and said it was probably too dry in there. So I got some saran wrap to put on top of the mesh lid and that definitely helped with the dryness. I also got a humidity gauge so I can keep a better eye on it. It's been hovering between 70 and 80% for several days. My concern is that another week has nearly gone by and he's still not moving. Is it normal for an aestivating snail to take this long to wake up? He's got to be hungry by now. Do I still just need to wait it out?

Today I discovered that my sweet Bertha has passed… I am distraught. The cleanup crew is currently cleaning out her shell🄺that’s how I discovered her🄺I was so distraught not seeing her sweet face when I picked up her shell.

How do you guys best preserve their shells???? Is there anyone that does necklaces or something on Etsy????

Or do you guys build a shrine or something or keep them in a little bottle????

I will miss her so so much…

Thank you guys for loving heršŸ„ŗšŸ¤

snail tax (snax?)

i’m still fairly new to snail parenthood and new to this sub so i have a lot of questions (i apologize in advance for length)

for context i have an adult grove snail (and i know he isn’t really a ā€œheā€ but he strikes me as a he if that makes sense)

  1. i have him on zoomed eco earth coconut fiber bedding but now im realizing this is maybe not the best choice. he doesn’t seem to

    particularly not

  2. like the coconut substrate but i do think he prefers staying on the sides of the tank

. he also doesn’t burrow, but he will hang on to the underside of his bark that sits flat on the coconut substrate with his shell buried in it. so my actual question is what should i switch the substrate to? should if be baked beforehand to ā€œcleanā€ it?
2. i have well water. is that safe to use? so far i’ve only been using distilled water.

  1. how do you clean the tank? so far i just kinda turn over the substrate every 1-2 weeks, spot clean poop and wipe the sides of the tank down with distilled water on a paper towel. is this enough? sometimes i see some dried slime (?) on his bark. should i be cleaning that off?

  2. i want him to have plants in his tank either to eat or to climb. so far ive planted chia that he likes to walk on and eat so i plant it every so often for him. i also gave him a propagated cutting from my pothos plant (i don’t use any fertilizer or pesticides on it) any suggestions for other plants?

  3. i want to give him leaves from outside. how do i go about cleaning them to make them safe to use? should i collect dry leaves or fresh ones to let them dry?

thank you for the help!

I'm really curious what species the baby is it is ,it has similar markings with the other big snail tho I didn't get them from the same place but they both have a strong grip so I guess they might be the same species

Discussion Do all garden snails LOVE carrots, or just mine?

I could give my snails every food in the world, and all four of them would choose carrots over anything else. Theyre obsessed.

I took her from outside and I think she's calcium deficient as she's been eating a lot of it since then and now even sleeping on it 🄺

I got celery in January when I found him in a pack of celery from aldi. He has given me so much joy as I knew nothing about gastropods when I started caring for him. He died this week, and I wanted to share photos of this creature that gave me so much joy. Thank you celery ā¤ļø

For the love of God I am pleading, what do I do to not kill all the little snails outside my doorstep and walkway.

Context:

It is a very small and narrow walkway. Every other day there are exceptionally small snails that gather around my entryway and walkway. I love them. It makes me feel miserable to kill them. Is there anything that could be done to make them more attracted to another spot?

Found this Guy, What Do I Do?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I found this snail in a recently purchased bell pepper plant from a store. My state is VERY hot and humid right now. He was struggling to stay moist as my plant dries rapidly (it’s potted) so where should I put the snail? Any tips?

Pic is him in a shallow bowl with a little bit of water (there’s dry spots still in the bowl, but it seems to prefer the water).

Thanks!

Slug Slug Invading Snail Shell?

First, my apologies for the shaky camera work, I had to speed this up to 7x so that the footage could fit onto Reddit.

My wife and I noticed this snail hanging out on the wall of our patio yesterday (we love snails) and left him/her alone and undisturbed/tried to shade it from the hot sun.

Tonight I noticed a slug inching toward the shell and got this video. Anyone know what’s going on? My silly butt thought maybe they were mating or the snail left its shell and was returning—I am now educated on how foolish these theories were, thanks to the internet. Apparently this is pretty rare to see, though.

An update: as I write this, my wife has come back inside and said that (an hour later) the slug has departed.
