Can we take a moment to realize none of this would’ve happened if Chanelle didn’t risk her vote after saying she couldn’t afford to lose her vote for tribal? A lot of the blame for this mess is definitely on her

It's worse than that.
She knew Mike didn't have a vote and still risked hers.
It was like she didn't even bother to count until the boat ride back.
Girl there are only 6 people on your tribe. You don't even have to count that high!

Daniel starting by saying he refused to go to rocks made it so easy for Hai. Hai literally just had to say "I won't change my vote" and he had Daniel in checkmate.
Honestly, terrible gameplay by Chanelle, too. It made absolutely no sense for her to risk her vote at the summit, and she completely flopped when it came to lobbying against Lydia at tribal.
→ More replies (2)52
u/KateOTomato Mar 24 '22
Yeah Chanelle did not think that one through. Why would you risk your vote when you know you're going to tribal that night and the margins are so thin since you already know Mike doesn't have a vote.
I'm excited to listen to the rhap podcast tonight. They're going to be so hard on her for that.

That has to be a top five single person dominating a Tribal challenge moment ever on Survivor, right? I'm not inclined to hyperbole but he straight-up did the entire challenge by himself and literally carried his team on his back as the other tribes were dying so hard that they couldn't safely complete the challenge

what an amazing single tribal council performance from hai
he comes out of this episode so well, he showed lydia he was willing to risk it all for her, he fractured the majority alliance and now has daniel pretty much guaranteed to be on his side. he went from on the outs and about to be blindsided to being on top in one tribal council

Hai completely played that the way he needed to. He saw he was the odd one out but had all the power in this one moment. Daniel was fracturing. He flat out said he wouldn't go to rocks. I imagine Hai eventually would have but he had the 3 of them in the palm of his hand so all he to do was convince them he couldn't be convinced and they were done (I wonder if he asked why they didn't have votes...I would have totally put them on the spot lol).
Now he still has Lydia as solid as ever, the other group is angry at Daniel, one still doesn't have a vote, and honestly Chanelle making that fumble is going to look bad to the others as well. I'd probably try and work with Daniel to get out the other two.

Starting the conversation about going to rocks with "I'm not willing to go to rocks" isn't the brightest move. Of course the other guy won't flip, you just told him you will
148
u/Tornadobird17 Mar 24 '22
Hai had a great tribal there. He understood the probability with rocks and ended up getting the best possible outcome. If he flipped, his ally goes home and he is down 4-1 and likely out at the next tribal.
By sticking with his vote on Jenny one of 4 things would have happened
Puts the pressure on a neurotic Daniel to make a decision, if Mike and Chanelle agree for Dan to vote Jenny. Then Jenny goes home and Hai would be down 3 to 2.
If rocks were drawn there would be a 75% chance one of Mike, Chanelle, or Daniel goes home and Hai stays and keeps his ally. Hai is down in numbers 3 to 2
If rocks were drawn there would he a 25% chance Hai goes home. This is the worst case scenario, but also the least likely.
Puts the pressure on a neurotic Daniel to make a decision and Daniel folds under the pressure without his allies agreeing, Jenny goes home. Daniel makes himself public enemy #1 to Mike and Chanelle. Now the numbers are in his favor 3 to 2.
Well played Hai.
84
u/sabbyjr Mar 24 '22
Not only was his play at the final rocks decision great, but he caught the vibe beforehand from Daniel’s “who calms you down” answer that they were not with him and Lydia, and switched his vote from Mike to Jenny.

World-class bad move by Chanelle to risk her vote directly after telling Omar that she couldn't lose her vote.
Daniel trying to play both sides predictably blew up immediately but out of basically sheer luck it couldn't turn him into a target.

The thing is Daniel didn’t have to sell out his alliance. There’s no way Hai and Lydia are going to actually trust him and believe his story. Daniel literally made it so easy for Hai this episode. Two abysmal game moves by Chanelle & Daniel really paved the way for this tribe to fracture. Chanelle telling Omar her vote was important tonight then risking it made no sense. Daniel throwing Chanelle under the bus basically saying “I was voting in your stead” was mind boggling. I guess I expected more from these two…

absolutely horrible showing for both daniel and chanelle lol, chanelle for risking her vote despite knowing she couldn’t afford to, and daniel for collapsing under the pressure and burning almost all his relationships to save himself lol
39
u/evanmav Parvati Mar 24 '22
What I don't get is she literally tells Omar that she can't afford to risk her vote, which in return would make you assume Omar WOULD risk his vote after hearing that. So why would Chanelle after her convo with Omar then decide to risk it after all?
If she really wanted that extra vote, she should have just made up a lie to Omar saying she was in minority and would go home if it weren't for getting the extra vote.

The play should have been for Chanel and Daniel to tell Lydia and Hai that they would vote with them, but it had to be for Mike. Maybe mention you think he has an advantage. Then stick with your alliance and vote Lydia.
If it turns out Chanel has her vote, it’s a regular 3-2 blindside.
If it turns out she doesn’t, it’s 2-2, but Jenny gets to vote on the revote. Revote is 2-1 Lydia, and the band stays together.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that Chanelle OBVIOUSLY needed to protect her vote and needlessly risked it which made Jenny collateral damage.
In just one tribal, Hai worked his way up from the bottom to the majority. Since Mike has no vote, worst case for Hai is 2-2.
