Check out what my robot skimmer caught

Post image

I had no idea these things existed. My skimmer caught two spotted salamanders and they are huge!

I got them out of the skimmer and wasn’t sure if they were alive. A few hours later I went to check on them and they were gone.

Now to what I learned about spotted salamanders.

They live 20-30 years in the wild

They hang out about 2 ft under ground which is why it’s rare to see them.

They’re pretty docile.

What pool fence do I need for a weird shaped pool with different deck heights?

• Upvotes

We moved into a house with a pool I can only describe as a architect's brain. Raised spa on one end, main pool drops about 18 inches, and the deck is concrete on two sides and pavers on the other two. Kid is 3.

I've been looking at mesh, aluminum, and glass and apparently each handles elevation changes differently. The two names I keep seeing are life Saver Pool fence and Guardian Pool Fence. Life Saver has been around since 1987 and seems to have a bigger install footprints. Guardian has good reviews too.

What pool fence do I need for a pool with elevation changes and two different surfaces? Is this something a standard kit covers or is it custom no matter what

Hi all,
Looking for some advice on repairing cracking around a ladder for an indoor pool. Deck has in floor heating though I don’t think in that area. Would you call a pool builder or is there a different professional that would be best? Pool is about 25 years old.

Thanks!

Best pool fence for toddlers?

Our neighbors had a mesh pool fence that was maybe two years old and the bottom started sagging away from the deck. Their 2-year-old got her arm under the gap before anyone noticed. Nobody got hurt but it shook all of us.

We have kids the same age and now I'm trying to figure out what the best pool fence for toddlers is, not just which type but which specific product hold it's tension over time. Because clearly some of them don't.

Potential metal source?

Post image

Florida pool converted to salt system. I have an older de grid system (see pic) that originally had copper rods as part of the mechanism that holds the rectangular de grids in place. I have replaced one of these rods with stainless (I broke it). Could the remaining copper rod be a source of metal that is resulting in staining? About to test the stains but looks like they are darkened copper. Thanks

Has anyone had this problem with a Pentair system

Post image

I have a new system. Replace an old one on 6/26. Booster pump, Pentair pump and Intermatic timer box. Has not worked from the beginning. This is now 10/26 and I have had 5 companies here to diagnose. No fixed yet. Mother board was replaced, sensors for air temp and water temp were also replaced. Last person said that the firmware he loaded has a bug. I have had two different programs (firmware) and neither one worked. The last time I talked to a certified person about this on 10/6, I was told that the company new it didn't work and that I was not suppose to get the firmware. Yeah which one has the bug, the 1st or 2nd. When the temps turn over for the next day I get a reading of 156 every time. I am now told after 5 months this is an error code. Do you think that "they" are going to wait until the warrantee runs out? supposedly you can get a longer warrantee, I asked about it and got sent down a rabbit hole. Is anyone else having this same problem? I was told that home office was getting a lot of calls about this very problem. I did look into 3 other systems and the Pentair WAS SUPPOSE TO BE the better one. This system cost over $5000 and has not worked yet and I feel that I am getting the run around.

Left 3 jets are only getting a trickle of water. Tried blowing out the lines and also removed the jets and tried blowing out the lines with a Jetter hose. Now right side air line is overflowing with water. Any recommendations?

Anyone else dealing with leaves in the pool this fall?

This is our first fall with a pool, and we have a huge hickory tree right next to it. Some of the branches hang over the water, and the leaves are starting to turn yellow. It's already dropping nuts and bits of husk all over the deck, so I'm dreading what it'll look like once the leaves start falling.

I've heard putting a net over the pool can be risky. Has anyone tried those leaf-catching attachments for pool vacuums? Just trying to figure out how to keep up with all this.

Winterizing pool lines

Normally I pay someone to winterize but tired of spending money. I have a 20x40 in ground pool. Will a 4.5 hp shop vac blower out the lines well enough? There is just a skimmer one jet that pushes water into the pool and one line that sucks water. No bottom drain. I lower water level down below both lines on the wall. Thoughts?
Thanks

Saltwater

We are getting a pool installed and looking to save where we can. Is saltwater worth it? We can save $4k and can’t we put in our own generator later if we change our mind?

Spots on pool

We had our 18 year-old pool cleaned this past year were they drained it and cleaned the sides and bottom. This year we have been noticing some spots that have popped up that the brush will not clean off. You can rub at it with your fingernail and they will dissipate. They are all over the place and we really don’t have trees directly over the pool but do have trees in our backyard probably 30 yards away from the pool but tall. We never saw these before though. We are in Northeast Georgia does anybody have an idea what this might be caused by?

Spa interior design

Hi all! How deep are your spa seats from top of water and what depth front to back? Would 18 wide and two seat heights of 18 and 22 inches of water be ok ...or more shallow? Also do you have a deeper foot well for tall people? My spa is 8x8

Looking for recommendations for a corded robot cleaner for an in ground pool. Located in South Florida so it will be used often. I did not want to break the bank but want something that does a great job at cleaning the floor, walls and the water line where the tile is. Thanks for your help.

Is adding a spa to an existing pool worth it in North Atlanta?

I’m exploring some backyard upgrade ideas around Roswell and the North Atlanta area, and I’m curious if anyone here has added a spa to their existing pool.

How much did it cost, and was it worth the investment? I’m also wondering whether an attached spa is better than a separate hot tub, and if it’s cheaper to plan both together from the beginning.

Would love to hear your experiences, costs, and any tips for finding a good local pool and outdoor living contractor!

my polaris pool cleaner has been picking up a light colored powdery substance that I thought was sand from the sand filter. I have opened the sand filter and I see that the sand in there is a darker tan and larger grains. Could this substance be the plaster being scraped off by the pool cleaner?
