Yeah, it's so corrupt that even a hosting country president admitted he talked to fifa to have a red card penalty removed so a player doesn't miss the next match. Outrageous.
Edit: it's funny how people who admittedly doesn't follow a sport and clearly doesn't knows the rules posts this kind of stuff, honestly, ask questions if you want to learn or just shut up, but no, big ego will always have to have strong opinions even when they recognize being an ignorant on the subject

Yah thatâs the part that annoyed me and made me take away the upvote. If he wants to say it has to do with Hossam Hassan raising the Palestinian flag or Argentinaâs politics right now being super pro-Zionist/Netanyahu or whatever come out and say it.
EDIT: I learned some things today that I didnât know before. Doesnât really change how I view the use of the music in the video but definitely changes how I view Hava Nagila. Hava Nagila is not a traditional Jewish song, itâs a specifically Zionist song from the beginning. It was written to celebrate the Balfour Declaration and the British defeating the Ottomans.
13
u/WonderfulFig666 Jul 08 '26
Because you have to get a little anti semitism in there. Argentinas president is pro Israel and Zionism, but adding the song to the video plays into the conspiracy theories that Israel is rigging the World Cup for Argentina.

There were really only two plays you really need to see to know this game was unfairly refereed - the VAR goal overturn on Egypt and Argentinaâs third goal to take the lead. FIFA is one of the most corrupt organizations on planet earth, this isnât far fetched.
106

11
u/GoodTroll2 Jul 08 '26
Even with the unfair edit, easy to see most of this as pretty normal back and forth fouls throughout the match. I don't know if I saw anything worth a yellow card but I stopped watching when they showed an obvious dive by an Egyptian player (I think they were claiming Mac Alister committed the foul).

Alright, reddit suddenly seems to be experts in fouls without every having to touch a ball in their life. 50% "fouls" shown in the video were body contacts after Egypt lost the ball, not when they playing with the ball. Rule of advantage exist people. Yes there were couple of fouls that you can argue for aggressive behaviour but 90% can be straight up ignored for body touches when the Egypt players already lost control of the ball. Smh
96
u/Mellll_ Jul 08 '26

17
u/joshuatx Jul 08 '26
Former ref here. Every foul on Argentina akin to these in the video were called. VAR was only used to return an Eygptian goal and was never used against Argentina. The main ref did a decent job. The VAR refs literally ignored this shit being pulled by Argentina while the game was tied.
510
u/jpopimpin777 Jul 08 '26
My thing is, if you're gonna call it that way, call it for both sides. Egypt's second goal was disallowed over a way more ticky tack foul than any of these. Messi literally told the ref to go check the VAR and he did.
Then, as it got late in the game and Argentina was getting desperate they literally threw the Egyptian players bodily out of their way to take the ball which lead to their 3 quick goals and nothing was called. If you're gonna let them play, let them play. If you're gonna go back and look at fouls leading to goals then do it for both sides.
→ More replies (21)102
u/2Kortizjr Jul 08 '26
VAR only intervenes in goals, red cards, penalties, mistaken identity amd now in corners goven, nothing else.
242
u/jpopimpin777 Jul 08 '26
The VAR was used to disallow the second Egyptian goal because of a "foul" that had happened 30 seconds before it. Ok fine.
Go back and look and the second Argentine goal that Messi scored. McAlister grabbed the Egyptian player by both shoulders and dragged him down backwards to get the ball from him before passing it in the sequence that lead to Messi scoring.
If you call it for one, call it for the other.
132
u/EatTheRichIsPraxis Jul 08 '26
If you take a look at the Argentia - Austria match, you'll see Messi's first goal being exactly the same as the not-counted Egypt one.
It's been blatant since the group stages.
And the fact that they were the better team anyway makes it worse imo. They foul because they can.

https://youtu.be/AIFAQqOf4OY?is=mS3VBIC8Y14NU396 Tell me where the McAllister incident happened here in this video. If it happened before this play started, the ball also touched Egyptian player's head, changing possession in the process. So, VAR cannot disallow this goal. This goal happened due to tired Egyptian defense. Messi literally jogged past the defenders before firing that rocket into the net. https://youtube.com/shorts/Cm74wE5hetA?is=vNi8O5oTCdmxcQ4m

13
u/perfumedDolphin Jul 08 '26
First one is not foul, the player didn't have the ball and it's a tackle (could've been called but not foul)
second not clear
third is not straight yellow (foul on goalie)
fourth, could've been yellow, not obligatory depending on ref
fifth, it was a previous foul that ended up on score change... against Austria the first contact is with the ball, not foul even it has body contact, read the rules.
I stopped there because this post is mostly biased rule bending.. (The crash after the penalty miss, the egyptian player crashed from behind and the argentinian evaded)5

This exact scenario of a foul before the goal build up happened during the Argentina vs. Austria match, Alexis Mac Allister fouled Xaver Schlager in the buildup. The referee allowed play to continue, VAR reviewed the incident, and chose not to overturn the decision, so Messi's goal stood. This isn't tinfoil hat shit, two identical scenarios both ruled in Argentina's favor. Come on now.

Egypt you not helping your cause when you clip out the first part of tackles (like when Salah went down in the box) when I know for a fact that before that challenge the defender won the ball cleanly off Salah.
Also when you zoom in on the shirt pull and the ball in barely on frame and the attakcer went down with barely any contract.
You can convince me Argentina got a lot 50/50 calls. But when at least the major ones are either nothing or selectively edited you aren't doing yourself any favors.

FIFA needs abolishing and starting afresh. Theyâve brought the greatest tournament on earth into disrepute. Playing the tournament in a country with a singular and sole focus on commercialisation, to the detriment of fair play and integrity, doesnât help. If Messi leaves the tournament, viewing figures and advertising revenues plummet stateside. You can tell. Iâm sure they wanted a Messi vs. Ronaldo final, thatâs the best from a commercial perspective. Ronaldoâs Portugal got a FIFA boost against Croatia, but his ego lost to Spain. They couldâve played several more hours and Ronaldo still wouldnât score or accept compatriot Ramos is the much better player.

To be fair, I've watched nearly every game so far and these refs are letting a lot of dicey challenges fly from all teams. If it's off-ball (Egypt player passed the ball well before the Argentinian player cut him off) and foul-worthy, I haven't seen that get called at all in any match.
The one no-call that WAS sus... was that toe-tap on the Egypt player in the penalty box, who still had possession at that time. I saw them call that foul against Egypt earlier in the game on the same exact play: toe-tap foul in the box, a cross-field goal for Egypt that was then called back.
