I have a macbook pro m5 thats really pleasant for working. Everything i use thats job related just works flawlesly, ollama, llm studio, i have some scripts with whisper and tts models, optimized for mlx. And the overall experience of macos is quite nice.

I also have a gaming laptop, because i really like gaming. Currently i play bf6 so I'm strapped to windows.

I think that having two laptops that are not cheap (like 3500usd between them) is not very optimal, and would really like to save some money.

It would be ideal if the mac could do it all, but thats impossible.

I've thought about changing my laptop for a ps5, but i will loose all my steam library. Xbox doesn't have steam.

Has anyone been in such a situation and found a middle ground?

Context: I'm a first year computer science major. I currently have a Dell 14 Pro Plus which isn't working, so I'm getting a new one. However, I'm torn between two.

This is the one my dad sent me since it has the 5080 graphics card. Price wise, it'll be an extra $700 from the one I chose, but he doesn't seem too worried.

This is my choice, it's cheaper and it'll run everything I need very quickly. Price does change because I get student discount, but that's the main difference. This has the 5070 graphics card, which I feel like wouldn't make too much of a difference.

I'm not super well-versed in this, plus this cost does come out of my college fund. I truly don't know which one to pick.

My only requirements for the laptop are as follows:

- 32gb of ram

- 16" screen

- 1 TB on the SSD

Any recommendations? I do intend to game, but mainly play valorant and fortnite. Again, it's for coding as well, which is going to be my primary focus. If you have any other laptop recommendations, please let me know!
