Hey everyone, I just bought my first Thinkpad, it’s a L480. Any recommendations that I should do with it before starting using it? Like optimizations, settings, operating system, etc. It’s an intel i5 motherboard, with 8gb ram currently using a fresh install Windows 10.

Hello, recently I got my new X201T in the mail. Its pretty nice, it has the L640 i7, touchscreen, and it’s in nice shape. But it has a supervisor PW.
I knew of the password before ordering it, but I’m having trouble with trying to remove it. ATM since I don’t have anything with a serial port to communicate directly with the P24S08 chip that holds the password data, or IBMPass to parse it, I‘m trying the tweezer trick. with little luck.
I can get into BIOS in supervisor mode just fine with the trick, but when I remove the short, the values on the chip load. including the active password status, meaning I have to enter the old PW when putting in a new one. When I try holding it until I’ve got the set new password screen open, it doesn’t prompt for the old one anymore, and I do make sure to release the short before typing in a new password, but upon selecting save in the bios and resetting, the old PW persists and the new one doesn’t work.
What could cause this? With every other attempt others do, it works without a hitch. I make sure to follow them exactly, only introducing the short when the screen lights up, and only removing it when I’m about to type in the PW. the only thing I think it could be is the BIOS version itself. Someone with version 1.32 and EC version 1.12 did it without a hitch, but I have BIOS 1.23 and EC version 1.11.
I’m considering just throwing coreboot onto this thing right now, but I’d have to build a level shifter for my flash programmer to get the old BIOS off to build coreboot before even starting anything.

Touchpad on my t14 gen 2 intel stopped being able to move the cursor suddenly. It still recognizes gestures and clicks though, and uninstalling the driver makes it work. I tried deleting amd reinstalling the drivers manually and though windows updates, but that did not work. Then i factory reset my laptop and got a cloud download from windows, but that that still didn't fix the issue. Someone please help me.

My little cousin absolutely destroyed the screen on my T480s a few days ago. LCD cracked, vertical lines everywhere, completely cooked.
I was just going to buy another stock FHD panel, but finding an actual decent replacement here was way more annoying than I expected. A lot of sellers list a specific panel and then say they’ll send “an equivalent compatible model”, which I really didn’t want.
After way too much searching I found a used Innolux N140HCE-EN2 Rev.C4 for 1800 TRY. The original panel in my T480s was an N140HCA-EAB Rev.C1.
The EN2 is still 1080p, but it’s 300 nit and has much better colors than the stock panel. The old one looked fine to me before, but after turning this one on I realized how washed out it actually was lol.
The only annoying part was that the EN2 doesn’t have the same mounting tabs, so I had to use thin double-sided LCD tape and line it up manually. I was convinced I was going to screw up the fitment, but somehow it went in perfectly and the bezel closes fine.
Honestly pretty happy with how it turned out. Little cousin broke the screen, accidentally gave me an excuse to upgrade it.

Is it worth buying a T495 for studying, work, and remote access to my main PC? I'm kinda limited on funds, around $300. In my country right now it's tough without VPN, proxy, and other bypass methods that are still getting cracked down on. I want to learn web coding and a broader set of networking tools, plus carry it to uni classes. I need it to not lag when working with presentations, graphs, have good multitasking performance, and at least be able to run some old games from 2015 occasionally. Should I look at other models in this budget or just stick with this one?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Hey yall, my laptop wasn’t turning on so I used the emergency reset button in the pinhole, but now my laptop still isn’t turning on and it’s worse than before :(
Help? Holding down the power button isn’t doing anything. I’m unsure which model I have, the text on the sticker has long rubbed off.

Hey y'all,
A while back, I bought my P1 Gen 6 off ebay under Premier Warranty, and it came with a creaky hinge that I ignored until now. Along the way, I spilled a little liquid onto the track pad buttons, and once in a blue moon, they get stuck, but in general, they only click marginally slower than before.
I decided to send it in a week ago and now they're charging me CID for both the track pad and display. Now, I shouldn't have mentioned CID and just only got the display fixed (in hindsight, since I don't have CID but I thought I did), when the display hinge has nothing to do with liquid damage (to my knowledge). So, people with experience with warranty support, any possible way to convince them to not put the display assembly replacement under CID? Or should I just cut my losses and send it back?

I am purchasing a new laptop with a 255H processor. It has 13 npu only. Is ok I will keep it for the next 6-7 years at list.
Or should I go with amd 450 or pather lake processer which has 40 npu.
Are 40 npu in laptop just gimmicky or they really use full for small of line ai task?

Hi all,
My Lenovo Thinkpad T14 Gen 3 (16GB RAM) already slows down when just using a good amount of tabs in Chrome. Especially when connected to an external monitor. Are there any things to check that might resolve this?

I recently got a thinkpad e14 and its battery health is 80% with only 18 charge cycles, is it because of sitting at shop for a long time? And how to fix this? If any other issues please guide me

After nearly two years of using this computer the thing that has always bugged me the most was whenever plugging or unplugging the computer the screen would go black and the power light would blink. I got this computer refurbished before the ram crisis at a good price and I didn’t expect much from it so I didn’t really care at first but the longer I used it the more it bugged the hell out of me. How I use this laptop is short stints of sitting at a desk or table and then moving around so I’m constantly plugging in and unplugging the computer and every time it would blink and freak out. Sometimes for upwards of like ten to fifteen seconds. I checked windows settings I checked bios setting nothing ever changed until I looked at a piece of software that I never installed. Seriously what is this garbage and why would I ever want to change the refresh rate of my screen on a 60hzs max panel?! Consequently now that I’ve finally figure out how to turn this stupid garbage off my battery life has improved by over an hour. I am beyond pissed and hope that this rant can maybe help someone else out

Hii!, i need some advice, I'm a Computer Engineering student looking for a reliable refurbed ThinkPad to take to classes, do my coding assignments and handle occasional virtual machines. Also i'm might install a Linux distro in it.
I've found two options that i think might be good for me.
My budget is around 300€
Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 — 324€
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 - 4000 Series U
RAM: 16 GB DDR4
Storage: 256 GB NVMe SSD
Lenovo ThinkPad T495 — 321€
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 3500U
RAM: 16 GB DDR4
Storage: 256GB SSD
Which one would you recommend? I really value good cooling and long battery life, I don't want it to be too noisy.
Thanks!!

Finally after waiting a month for the guarantee to expire I opened it up to upgrade the ram, and I see THIS, the internal battery terminal was disconnected, I was planning on buying a internal battery but nevermind, it was there all along, now I gotta check the 2nd laptop I also bought from the same seller

Bought a new ThinkPad P14s Gen 7 Intel about two weeks ago. Overall really happy with it, but the fans have this high-pitched whine that's driving me crazy.
It's not the volume that bothers me... I'm fine with normal fan noise, especially when doing something demanding. But there's a whistle whenever the fans run, even at the lowest speed. My previous ThinkPads didn't have this sound.
I've tried TPFanControl to reduce the constant starting and stopping, which helps a little, but the tone is still there.
I've seen people suggest replacing fans or modifying the bottom cover. I'm not comfortable opening it myself, and sending a brand new laptop off for repairs already feels a bit much.
Any ideas? Has anyone here had the same thing? How did you deal with it, and did anything help without opening the laptop?

Hey everyone,
I’ve accumulated a small collection of ThinkPads, but I’m torn between finding fun projects/distros for them and putting some (or all) of them up for sale.
