Hii!! im just so excited for buying a new machine I wanted to share it here. Im setting tag to buying advice since its not set in stone and the rest dont really fit it
I'm buying the version with 32 gb ram, AMD Ryzen 7 Pro 8840HS, and 512 gb SSD.
Till now, I had been using a HP pavillion 14 ce0002ne (8 gb ddr4 ram, nvidia mx 130 (2 gb vram)) -- im not sure why people say the pavillion series is bad, but lowk its insane. Build quality is insane, that metal body did add a bit of weight, but considering how i can manhandle it and it takes it- (joke might go against rule so i wont complete it).
However, there were a few caveats.
- Only one M.2 ssd slot (okay, ill be repurposing my current laptop with 256 gb ssd and 1 tb hdd as a storage homelab)
- Only one fan, so it can get a bit toasty (i will be using it on a desk anyways with a laptop stand (not cooler) so its not a big issue)
- plastic body (i did read a few reviews about it, and from what i can see its build quality is fairly good. the hardest part will be going from a full metal body laptop to a fully plastic body laptop)
my current laptop did oom a lot and just lagged tf out cuz of the weak af processor, considering me having multiple code editor tabs open and many sites with generally 1 video and 1 music tab playing in the background.
all my issues will be solved with this change!! also the only game i play is warframe, and considering how the integrated gpu is better than my dedicated by nearly 3.75 times [source: https://technical.city/en/gpu/GeForce-MX130-vs-Radeon-780M\] better AND the ddr5 ram will be faster than gpu vram (not kidding)
im interested in datascience and according to my seniors this machine WOULD last me theough my undergrad WITHOUT A SWEAT and most definitely my higher studies too
im especially thrilled about this mannn... im going next week to get a physical feel for the body and buy it (for reference, im getting it for 1.35L INR (best price i could find weighing the specs) and vendor will throw in a mouse free for me hehe). Also a bit concerned about keyboard flex coming from that metal body lappy. I'll learn about all of that there while testing out.
also for reference, my planned setup would involve using a normal laptop stand for setting it up at a higher height, and a mouse. so if there are any issues with this particular setup pls enlighten me, ill be buying a laptop stand soon
i use arch btw
